When we met Dr. Schaedel for a consultation he took his time explaining everything he was going to do in detail so I fully understood the procedures. He answered all my questions and concerns. On the day of Surgery he was very reassuring to both my wife and myself. During the surgery I was told a nurse came out twice to tell my wife all was going well and I was fine. While I was in recovery Dr. Schaedel met with us and told my wife what we needed to do and what medications he will be prescribing. He also called that evening to check on me. After the surgery I had minimal discomfort which I credit to his expert skills. The left one…read morehad broken through and was starting to cause problems, so I decided to visit the oral surgeon who had worked on my Mom years ago, and who came beyond highly recommended...Dr. David Feinerman. Well, his schedule was so full, they pushed me on to his associate, Dr. Robert Schaedel. Actually, my teeth were giving me problems last summer and were due to be removed in November, then December, and my final bump was to February. Why was I bumped for surgery three times? Beats me. In hindsight, I should have told them to take a flying leap after the second rescheduling, but I hung in there. I finally go in for surgery February 4th; I'm in and out in less than a half hour, which my husband thinks is really too quick to be sedated, have the procedure and then back up. I go home with minimal instructions and no follow-up visit. A day later, I'm starting to feel horrible. Really horrible. My ears are plugged, seems like I have water in them. The sinus pressure is unbearable, and the side that wasn't giving me problems (he yanked that one just because) is now throbbing and painful like I've never felt. Staff is totally unconcerned, tells me to finish my antibiotics and steroids (never took the Oxy given), take an OTC sinus pressure/congestion pill. Next day I feel worse; my right cheek is throbbing, my back three teeth are numb, and my right sinus is draining green, infected mucus into my mouth. Yeah, gross. And scary. I'm thinking my sinus was perforated. I'm rinsing every two minutes with in warm salt water, and I want to remove my head and place it in a vat of Lysol. Call Schaedel. Whole office is unconcerned again. I am in so much pain and begging for an appointment. Seriously. They did not want to give me one. So I get one. FOR THE WEEK AFTER. You can only imagine how the rest of that week went for me with these symptoms and little sleep. As I get into the room, one of his minions asks how I'm doing. I lose it. Doc comes in and does a cursory look at my mouth. Puts me on ANOTHER round of oral steroids and Clindamycin. And then has the GALL to suggest maybe I see an endodontist because maybe the last two teeth aren't viable and may need to be removed. So now I'm very upset that I may have to lose two back teeth. I get a referral for an ENT...AND THAT IS IT. I never receive a follow-up phone call, email or anything from Dr. Robert Schaedel or the office of Boynton Oral & Maxilofacial. I then visited my wonderful dentist, who was astounded I was never scheduled for follow-up, much less received basic necessities like an irrigation syringe. Which he gave me. Two, actually. And then he tapped on my back right teeth with his mirror instrument. After he peeled me from the wall from the pain, he told me in no uncertain terms it was completely sinus related, and that if anyone suggested an endodontist or an underlying tooth/nerve problem, he'd have a chat with them. I got a CT scan and went to another ENT for a second opinion. My right maxillofacial sinus is filled with inflamed tissue/polyps, pushing on nerves. It was definitely a deep infection that needed to be addressed surgically. Monday, July 29, 2019, I went into the hospital for an outpatient endoscopic maxillofacial sinus procedure to remove problematic sinus tissue and flush out the sinus due SOLELY to this botched wisdom tooth removal. I am currently recovering from that, and am seeking the advice of a lawyer. Stay far away from this person.

From the moment I walked into his office I was greeted by friendly, kind and professional staff who put me at rest immediately. They helped me through the paperwork process and ushered me into the exam room with just a short wait. Their scheduling was impeccable. For reference, I had a spot in my mouth that no matter what I did, the dental work kept failing, and no one could figure out why. I was temporarily living in Delray and went to Spodak for a cleaning. The office was incredibly modern and had every specialty under one roof. I haven't been able to find anything like that anywhere else. Dr. Spodak, who is the patriarch of the practice, came in and he was so warm and comforting. He had a terrific bedside manner. He looked at me and said, "You don't have bad teeth. You probably do your dental work all at once, and they offer to do the left side and then the right side." I nodded. For the first time, I felt truly seen in a dental chair. He explained that all of the dental work had caused my bite to become off and told me, essentially, that if we started then, he believed he could save my teeth. If we didn't, I would likely continue losing the other side. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money at that point. I asked if I could at least get a bite guard. He told me that it wasn't going to solve the problem. That might sound like a small thing, but to me it said everything about their integrity. They knew a bite guard was all I could afford, and instead of bringing me in and charging me $500 for something they didn't believe would actually help, they were honest with me. I eventually moved to Arizona. When I finally did have the money to address my teeth, I couldn't find one dentist here who could help me or, more importantly, really listen to what I was saying. They offered bite guards. They told me to brush and floss more. I am not joking when I say I have seen more than 30 general dentists and specialists combined. And through all of that, I kept coming back to the same thing: this wasn't simply a brushing-and-flossing problem. My bite was the problem. Out of all of those providers, Dr. Spodak was the only one who ever talked to me about actually trying to prevent further damage and save my teeth. Sometimes I honestly feel like dentistry has become more focused on fixing problems once they happen rather than figuring out how to prevent them in the first place. If I could go back, I would have stayed in Delray and continued seeing Dr. Spodak. I am seriously considering flying back there just for a visit.

I had braces removed a few years ago, so I found that kind of ridiculous. They also tried selling me on a root canal that my insurance wouldn't cover at their office. When I mentioned that I was going to get a second opinion and I would find somewhere my insurance covered, the sales lady said something to the effect of, "oh but be reallllyyy careful, not everyone does those types of procedures correctly and could damage it further", essentially using scare tactics to try to get me to book it through them right then and there. (News flash- second opinion said everything was fine). So I left feeling a little weird about this place, but I thought maybe my next cleaning in 6 months would be better and more streamlined/less sales-y. I set my next cleaning appointment for today at 11am. I have a text I replied and confirmed to for my appointment at 11am today. I took off work for 11am today for this appointment. At 8:09am I get a text asking if I'm on my way to my appointment at 8:00. I call the office and say that's weird, maybe they contacted the wrong patient because I'm staring at a text that says 11am. The woman on the phone tells me someone called me Tuesday and asked if I could change it to 8am and that the appointment is now already considered a cancellation and they can't see me at 11 either. I know that's not true, but I scroll through my call log anyway just to make sure I'm not going crazy, and confirmed I have no calls from spodak dental. They offered to see me at 3:00 instead. I reiterate that I took off work for 11am today so that isn't possible. If you're looking for a cut and dry dentist to give you an honest service, have you in and out of there, and not sell you on glitz and glam, fancy espresso machine in the lobby, shiny new state of the art equipment, and an office that can only be described as a resort lobby, this is not the place.
