Love Doctor Houlihan's gentle, hands-on approach to welcoming my 'boys' for examination. Treats are also a big plus to that welcome. We have three cats that see Rachel, Dawn, and Dr. Houlihan. For those reviewers giving negative reviews because they can't be seen... human doctors are the same and can't accommodate every new patient immediately (especially if they're good). Why don't you book an appointment for the future, come in, and then leave a fair review? We had to continue seeing a vet we did not love until we could get our cats in here. Again, well worth the wait. They are accommodating, fair, and compassionate. I love the parking lot which is rare in Birmingham. The walk to the door is a few feet from your car. It's quiet inside (unless there is another verbal kitty patient). The techs and doctor sit on the cat's level (the floor). They really make them feel comfortable. More than one pet parent can be in the room which is important to us. You can even hold your kitty and take them back to get blood drawn or nails clipped. We never feel rushed or like a number here. Grateful to have our pets as patients here.

He can be rude and uncaring. I have also noticed that he seems to prefer dogs over cats. I don't feel like veterinarians should feel this way but it's noticeable. Also, the staff of doctors used to be consistent but then there seemed to be a quick turnover. The new doctors are subpar. I had lost one of my cats who had been a patient there for quite a while and when he passed, I didn't receive a card or anything from the office. Small thing but important for pet owners. A few weeks later my other cat all the sudden couldn't stand on one of her paws and kept falling over so I made a makeshift cast for it to help give it support. I took her to the vets the next day and the vet, I don't remember her name, but she was African American. She asked me if I made that cast and I said yes. She said you did a good job. She then informed me that my cat had Cancer. What? When did this happen? I was of course devastated especially after just losing my other cat just weeks before. She says just take her home. No ideas for care nothing. She hands me the cat back and I say aren't you going to wrap her leg up again to help her stand. She says it doesn't matter anyway. It won't make a difference. I said are you crazy would you not want the doctor to wrap your leg if you couldn't walk? So cold hearted. I was done !!! never went back. Went to another vet ASAP. Also, what kind of vet has poisonous flowers right outside their entrance to the office? Insane! STAY AWAY FROM HERE!

Our 17 year old cat Lilly had been diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. She was doing OK…read moreuntil four or five months ago when she started to decline more rapidly. We took her to the vet again who told us that Lilly had a tumor near her bladder. In the last couple weeks she declined even more and was not eating or drinking very much and had vomited bile a couple times. We took her to the vet again who said she was dehydrated and recommended that we bring her to AEC for treatment. When we got to AEC, they developed a treatment plan for IV fluids and the first step was bloodwork. We were hopeful that Lilly would improve with IV fluids and we would be able to take her home. Sadly, the bloodwork showed that IV fluids were not a viable path given Lilly's condition and that there were no other treatment options. We wanted to take her home, but the doctor advised against that because it would prolong Lilly's suffering. At the doctor's recommendation, we made the excruciating decision to put Lilly down. Although this experience was devastating and traumatizing for us, we can't say enough good things about AEC, from the front desk staff to the vet techs to the doctor. Everyone was so sincerely compassionate and caring and empathetic. Dr. Brink, was outstanding. She gave a detailed explanation of Lilly's condition and the blood test results. We were very impressed by her clinical knowledge and expertise and are very grateful that Lilly was in her care. We appreciated her genuine compassion. About a week after we were there, we received a lovely card signed by each staff member with individual personal notes expressing sympathy for the loss of Lilly. We are so touched by this gesture and have the card displayed on a shelf in our living room with other keepsake items and pictures of Lilly. We strongly recommend AEC if your pet needs care. Even though we lost Lilly, we do take comfort in knowing that we brought her to a place where she was cared for as well as possible in the last hours of her life by such an excellent team.

The caregivers fed & watered them and scooped the kitty litter with every visit. They took pictures of our babies with each visit, and reported how things went while we were gone. More than that, our house was well secured! The caregivers turned on/off lights as needed, turned our blinds open and closed, picked up our mail, and brought in delivered packages. Most importantly, our cats and house were in tact when we came home. We were so happy to return and find that the cats were fine and the house was as we left it. We will definitely use Bloomfield Pet Care in the future to care for our cats and secure our home. This service is top-notch and very reasonably priced. We highly recommend this business for anyone who has to leave their pets home alone. Bloomfield Pet Care is the best! 5 stars, Definitely!
