Great doctor and overall amazing guy! Dr. Shu is a rarity in the medical field. He wants to talk to you and get to the root of the problem. Dr. Shu is very knowledgeable, professional and personal which allows you to feel comfortable during your entire visit. He's jovial and laid back and leaves you laughing and smiling. It's also always nice to get the feeling that you're not being rushed through an appointment. Office staff is also incredibly nice! highly recommend as one's primary care MD (esp. if you have a good insurance) - very well connected/resourceful, makes the right referrals to top specialists for your needs (and you get well treated there with his referrals), follows up after, very responsive and non-condescending (unlike how he looks in the pic). I'm much in favor of TCM, alternative medicine in general - for the regular check ups and emergency, go to see this guy - he'll take care of the rest for you. read more

Dr. Shu has completely changed my expectations of what I should expect during a doctors visit. I've never had such a comprehensive physical before, and on top of that, I didn't even need to go to an off site place to get my blood drawn, as my previous Doctor required that. He's also extremely knowledgeable and open to questions, even going out to find common ground on unrelated topics. His office has a small parking lot available for patients to park in and his schedule is reliable so you'll never have to worry about an overcrowded and over booked doctors office. As a student who is planning to go to medical school, Dr. Shu allowed me to shadow him and provided great advice and insight to the questions that I had. read more

Dr. Shu sets the standard for primary physicians. He spent a lot of time with me, and usually I can get an appointment the same week, but usually the same day. He is very caring, a good listener, and he picks his words carefully when telling you what a cause could be and what can make you feel better. I once went to him for an unrelated condition, and asked about travel vaccines. He said he'd print out a copy of the travel clinic locations for me, but I left in a haste. Lo and behold, in the mail the next day, I receive a letter from his office, with the documents inside. He really goes above and beyond! read more

My first time going to Dr.Shu He's a very nice and unconditionally caring doctor. He'll ask probing questions to get you comfortable enough to talk about any particulars on your visit. His office staff are professional and I was in and out for a physical in under and hour. read more

Dr. Shu is highly recommended. When I had an eye problem and went to see him, he already had all my previous health data gathered. I'm amazed how efficient he is. He is also very thorough and patient to answer all my questions and concerns. Also it is great to get an appointment so efficient as well. Dr. Shu is an excellent doctor. I made an appointment with him for a problem I was having with my stomach and he was able to see me the same day. The wait at his office was short and he spent a lot of time with me: listening to my complaint, reviewing my medical history, discussing possible causes of my ailment and recommended solutions. He did some blood work and actually called me with the results. He prescribed some medicine and soon after taking it I felt better. Cured! This happened a couple years, but Dr. Shu really deserves a review even though it is late. I was having stomach pains for a long time. I was with another doctor at the time. He sent me to a gastro specialist. They thought it was acid reflux, possibly a ulcer. This is going on for a couple of weeks and the pain was getting so bad that I was , so I wanted a second opinion. I was referred to Dr. Shu. I gave him my symptoms and he suspected gall stones. A couple of tests proved it was. I had surgery and haven't had any pains since. I'm impressed with is diagnosis skills and he clearly explained my options and the pros and cons of each option. He's a fabulous doctor. read more

I saw Dr. Shu for a recurrent cough that had not gone away for several weeks despite taking multiple OTC medications, rest, etc. He gave me an inhaler and provided other tips for getting better. I was impressed by his manner; he had a caring attitude, was a good listener, and explained the treatment steps I should take in a very clear manner. I've known Dave (Dr. Shu) for over 12 years. I knew him when he was doing his residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania. He has always been conscientious of his work and how it impacts his patients. Dave is not only a friend but also an excellent doctor. I've remained in contact with Dave and at times seek medical advice. I always give credit to Dave for diagnosing that I had a blood clot in my leg after surgery over the phone. THE WORST LISTENER EVER! After reading all of the glowing reviews about Dr. Shu, I eagerly made an appointment with him to dicuss some health issues that had come up for me. After waiting a half an hour to see him, I sat down with the doctor to discuss my symptoms and concerns. With each piece of information that I shared, Dr. Shu came up with a flip answer or excuse as to why I might be feeling poorly. He seemed only barely tuned it to what I had to say. I even went back over some of the information because he seemed to not be hearing my concerns. It felt as though we were have two separate conversations. At a certain point I simply felt that he was so out of touch with our conversation that I stopped the discussion, told him it seemed as though we had no connection, that he wasn't hearing what I was saying and left. Yep, I just got up and walked out. It was a somewhat uncomfortable thing to do but no more uncomfortable than sitting across from someone who was tuned out and pretending that we were having an meaningful and effective doctor-patient discussion. I rely quite a bit on Yelp reviewers' opinions but in this case, they missed the mark. read more

I wanted to say a big "thank you" to Dr. Shu. I was sick and coughing for 3 weeks starting from the beginning of February, 2012. I tried all kinds of over-the-counter medication. I even went to see a Chinese doctor for some herbal medicine in San Francisco China Town. It didn't seem like any of the treatments worked for me. One of my best friends recommended Dr. Shu to me. Dr Shu was very nice and patient. He spent the time to listen to me about my symptoms and then auscultated me very carefully. The prescription he gave me worked very well. After two days I had taken the medication, I started to feel much better. It was a significant difference. I was traveling for work for weeks. With my sickness, I had a tough time. Dr. Shu made me feel much better. The sickness went away so fast. I was able to finish my business trip smoothly. I highly recommend Dr. Shu. I would definitely choose Dr. Shu as my primary care physician. read more
