I had a referral for this office and my doctor's office faxed several times, a lady with a terrible personality said they never received it. So my doctor's office sent an email, which they did receive and the referral was good for one year. I went on out of town but when I returned I called them to make an appointment then they said that they closed the file and they would need another referral even though the referral was for one year. My doctor's officed faxed again, so I called them to see if they received the fax. That lady with a terrible pesonality said their fax is not working and that no matter what, now the waiting period is one year. Stay away from this rotten office, they don't care about anyone. If David Chui has any smarts then he should fire that terrible lady working in his office. I will never call this disorganzied terrible office again. read more

My husband and I have been seeing Dr. David Chui for over 25 years. He had perform Colonoscopy ERCP On the both of us. Recently I was referred back him to check on my ulcers. A simple procedure. I made the appointment, went in. The staff was kind and fast this time. The nurse called me in and did the blood pressure and medical history on me. Then went back to the waiting room to wait for Dr Chui Then the nurse calls me again BUT takes me back to the exam room She States Dr. Chui won't see cause I've had previously work done at Stanford (which he referred me to 15 years ago.) WHAT ARE KIDDING??? Nope she wasn't. Why didn't Dr. Chui tell us, why hide behind the nurse. NO BALLS So maybe think twice before going here. Good luck Blessings read more

The bad reviews on this site are for his staff mostly and not him it seems unfortunate to have such bad reviews on a doctor because maybe he had a poor staff at the time. Saw Dr. Chui as my first opinion he is very direct, humble, intelligent and caring. He took his time and sat and explained everything to me. He had patients waiting and I never felt like he was rushing me or didn't care. In fact, I think he would've taken longer had I asked more questions. I found his office staff to be warm and caring. I have decided not to go with Dr. Chui only because he doesn't service Good Sam which is where I would want to be. If I need anything GI related in the future he will be the first doctor I see. read more

Recently, the front desk lady speak very fast... It seems like she is very busy.. The first doctor visit i experienced, there was one hour delayed.. After I had done the colonoscopy exam, doctor told me the result near lobby, there is no privacy at all. Moreover, I should be coded with preventative screening because I have no symptoms, but do the regular follow up..Doctor gave me diagnostic, it causes me to spend time to ask zero out three different bills. Patient BE VERY CAREFUL if you chose this Doctor !!! My husband had life threatening condition back in Jan. 2010, which his stomach has paralyzed due to unknown reason. His weight was dropped from 185 to 145 within 3 weeks of time, he deteriorated very quickly due to the fact he cannot eat at all. Dr. Chui was the specialist we chose at that time, and after the endoscopy , he saw undigested food in my husband stomach after more than 16 hours of fasting. He was not able to diagnose him with anything, or even seems concerned with what he saw, he insisted to schedule a colonoscopy in 5 days, unfortunately, we end up canceled it before the colonoscopy taken place as my husband got into very dangerous & critical condition, and checked into emergency at Stanford hospital, later diagnosed with life threatening condition called : Gastroparisis, which took him a full year to recover. Dr. Chui has failed to diagnose him and delayed his treatment. However, this simply shows his professional skill is lacking, and many doctor can fail diagnose on patient, which is not the real problem we have with this doctor. In fact, we have never complaint about it . This year, when we called his office to schedule a routine colonoscopy exam, we were told by his office staff that : Dr. Chui refuse to see my husband as patient, because we have canceled the colonoscopy two years ago and went to Stanford hospital instead ! ( Yeah, sure, if we did not, my husband would have died at his care ! ) I do not know what professional conscience & ethic or principles Dr. Chui is following to come up with judgment & decision as such , but we are certainly feel VERY BLESSED that he refuse to see us and allow us to experience his professional ethic, so our best interest is not going to be compromised again. It will be a true misfortune to be under his care knowing how big of ego he bares for himself, and how little he care about his patient ! read more

Pl. use this doc with great caution. Based on 2 experiences (one just now and one 4 yrs ago), he'll see you at first, usually schedule an endoscopy and/or colonoscopy (equivalent to surgeon operation) but then loses interest in talking to you/further office visits/medication adjustments, when you call him back to say the problems are not going away. This time, I am suffering for 10 WEEKS. I ended up in ER again after his meds and endoscopy and the ER said "pl. stop coming here, we can only stabilize you - go to your GI to get diagnosis". When I called his office, desperate for another office visit and further diagnosis, the staff rudely said "he will get in touch with you if he feels it is necessary for you to talk or to have another office visit or to adjust medication". He never called back. Desperate for a solution (round the clock gas, nausea, unable to drive to work, felt like I was going to die) I got referred to an intestinal specialist at Stanford who is prescribing some tests and will continue looking / testing until the root cause is found. When I informed his office that I was getting a second opinion and further diagnosis from a Stanford doctor, I immediately got a letter from the doctor saying I've been terminated and can no longer see him and will be happy to forward my records to the Stanford doctor. I feel that is a bit unprofessional and also refusing to accept that he was unsure of what my problem was (Nexium wasn't going to fix it) and unwilling to admit it and unwilling to proactively refer me to other specialists. Isn't it common for a doctor to say "I'm not sure what is wrong with you, let me refer you to an intestinal specialist because the endoscopy was clear"? Disappointed but also scared because I have something currently undiagnosed and doctor apparently refused to talk to me and one can only assume that is a form of giving up. read more

My experience with dr. chui has been great. I needed an endoscopy. My Mother has also been a patient - for a colonoscopy. Both of us had ended up in the emergency room and we were so happy when they called Dr. Chui to treat us. We've been working with him for about 5 years now and he has kept us both in good health ever since. Very caring doctor. I would not have any other Doctor now. read more

The medical assistant was very rude on the phone and left me on hold for 15 minutes after grilling me on several questions. I called back and the receptionist left me on hold for another 15 minutes. I would love to tell the good Dr. this personally, but the medical professional ethic is to hide behind firewalls. Further, I wish only to point out a problem in hopes he will solve it. So... Dr. Chui seems to be a fine doctor in his field, however his office staff is just unacceptable! Every time my wife or I call to ask for something we're treated like we're such a bother and get poor service -- even to make appointments! The staff are short and curt with us, and quite rude. We expect professional contact with his office and get this. We don't deserve this. There are plenty of specialists in his field so we don't have to deal with this. Horrible staff! They never call back. They don't know who is on the phone. You deal with 3 people for 1phone call and still no appointment! Rose use to work there and was fabulous. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND. I wish I had read these Yelp reviews before I saw Dr. Chui since my problems with him seem to be a common theme. I was referred to him from Apple's health facility for stomach pains and met with Dr. Chui, who was polite and seemed competent. He recommended a Colonoscopy, which now seems really extreme considering we could have just done an X-ray. I did the procedure and the entire time wanted to walk out but I had already consumed the sodium chloride pre-procedure so didn't want to redo it. Overall, the facility was dirty, incredibly packed, everyone seemed rushed and I felt like they rushed through my procedure. The nurses spoke broken English and we were stacked in a room hospital bed to hospital bed. I liken the experience to an afternoon in NYC's Chinatown. Anyway, afterwards he could not see me for a month for my follow up and the medicine he prescribed was causing me extreme stomach pain and dehabilitating cramps. I called three times without having anyone from his office return my calls the week after my surgery. When I finally got the receptionist on the phone, they just said to try something over the counter and I was still not able to talk to the doctor about my reactions. I cancelled all follow ups at that point and am now seeing another physician. read more

The staff is horrible here, as well as the Doctor. I am really upset as the Doctor didn't listen to me during the consult and then ordered one x-ray in front of me only to have his staff change the order into four x-rays and because he has no idea what he said or what you said, you will not get proper treatment. He doesn't do an exam to look at your body to see abnormalities etc that could be useful for diagnosing. He seems more interested in running expensive tests versus using knowledge and selected tests to find out what the issue is. My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after having a endoscopy performed by Dr. Chui. This dr. Literally saved her life. He did not want to release her as it would be too hard to readout so worked its Caremore and Dr. Hugh Walsh to perform a Whipple surgery the next morning. Dr. Walsh performed this 5 1/2 HR. Operation without even getting approval!! My mom was diagnosed at Stage 2B and as survived for 2 1/2 years so far. She spent 3 weeks at O'Connor Hopital. Dr.'s Chui and Walsh saved her life. I would give this Doctor 5 starts because other people unfairly comments on him. Both I and my wife did ECG and colonoscopy at his location. I also had 3 times of colonoscopy at Kaiser in 2015. Comparing to Kaiser, Dr. David Chui is much more professional, he gives patients report before discharge, the report include all pictures before and after polypectomys. I never saw single picture from Kaiser GI doctors and they missed detect polyps several times. read more

Dr. Chui performed my first colonoscopy several years ago and at the end of July he performed my second colonoscopy. Each of the past several years started with my best intentions to have it done, but I seemed to always find a way to procrastinate. I am just a coward when it comes to this procedure. I find Dr. Chui to be a very good, sensitive, kind and conscientious doctor. I am now more comfortable with this procedure. The procedure was performed in an outpatient endoscopy center and the staff there was also very good and made me feel at ease. I give Dr. Chui my highest recommendation. Referred to Dr. Chui for an ultrasound to stage rectal cancer. While there was a wait and the office staff was a little abrupt, Dr. Chui was excellent. He was very reassuring, described the procedure completely, and addressed all of my pre-procedure concerns. He was thoughtful about details in his prep instructions. The ultrasound (at O'Connor Ambulatory Surgical) was as easy as it could be, and Dr. Chui gave me immediate feedback. He then followed with quick return of results to my surgeon. I consider myself lucky that I was referred to him for this procedure. He is very knowledgeable and empathetic. read more

I have seen Dr. Chui for more than 20 years, and had multiple procedures performed by him. He is a very compassionate and caring doctor. He has taken care of my medical problems in a timely manner and keeps me in good health. He also has established a very well connected and broad referral base with other surgeons and cancer specialists.
