I often use the hot springs in the mornings and some evenings. I have to say that the staff is professional, courteous and kind. Linda Lou is often there and it is always such a pleasure to see her. From the first day I came in she was friendly and helpful. The gentleman that works the pools is also very kind. 1/18/2025: My First-Born Daughter visited my humble abode with her succinct plot she has been incubating since, last December 2024, i.e., visit David Walley's Hot Springs. Besides visiting the hot springs, my Daughter wanted visiting Nevada City first then, drive to the hot springs around 6:00 PM--I'll write a review visiting Nevada City later. We arrived as plotted . . . Shockingly surprised: First--We had to visit the Front Desk in order, obtaining SPA BATH TOWELS then, drive to the hot springs parking lot. There are NO TOWELS distributed at the hot springs, i.e., BYO towels and BYO cotton bathrobes because the outside temperature was about 26° Fahrenheit!!!! A few years ago, I visited the hot springs; however, ALL THE HOT SPRINGS FACILITIES WERE CLOSED--blocked due to repairing all hot tubs. Now, I didn't notice any massive improvements this visit so, my inquiring mind spoke asking the hot springs Rep what repairs were completed . . . "Just repairs . . . " WOT--nothing else!!!!???? Waaaaah! 1/18/2025 Checking In: During the evening, all Guests must check into the Marketplace rather than enter via the main hot springs entrance. I was taken aback noticing the dining cafe is now selling only cold drinks and snacks, i.e., it was transformed into a disappointingly sad, mini-retail store. Reiterating, it's such a major disappointment there's no hot food and sadly, only purchasing cold drinks and junk food snacks. Another disappointment, the hot springs were not hot like it used to be and David Walley's Hot Springs is SEVEN DEMERITS BELOW the Cheoksan Spas I frequented located in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, South Korea, i.e., David Walley's Hot Springs' temperature was like 100° to 105° Fahrenheit. That's not hot at all--more like tepid considering the outside temperature was about 26° Fahrenheit!!!! Moreover, the women's steam room was inoperative DESPITE, the facilities were closed a few years ago for repairs, i.e., the steam room SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED during the FORCED CLOSURE!!!! Plus, after my DAUGHTER was soaking in the hot tub near the 1862 Restaurant's wrought iron gate entrance, her skin began blistering turning BEET RED, i.e., she had to visit Carson City's URGENT CARE STAT!!!! Seriously, I purchased a dilapidated, UNSANITARY TIMESHARE and now, I will remain LIVID wasting spending my money for an egregiously, poorly maintained property--keep in mind I also own TWO ADDITIONAL TIMESHARES BESIDES DAVID WALLEY'S HOT SPRINGS RESORT!!!! When I arrive on vacation the last thing I want to do is be forced into listening to a time share pitch. Unfortunately, that's what you get here. You check in, the front desk will write your room number on a paper that you then take to another desk where they attempt to sign you up for the time share situation while making your keys. (Pitching you before making the keys.) The first evening I got a call two times, both times unable to hear anything. I texted the front text and it was indeed them, they were seeing if we wanted to sign up for the time share tour. She said she couldn't hear me when I answered. Clearly the phone in our room is broken, they didn't offer to fix it and we didn't ask. I do like that you can have a card key or a bracelet, that was really nice. Staff was also friendly. We booked a villa and although it's dated, I loved our room. It was nice to have a washer/dryer, refrigerator, stove, all the things. I felt like I was in my first apartment again. The amenities were fantastic! I was taken back by the hot springs tubs as they were all a bit dirty, and a decent amount of goose feces, but that's nature. The jet tub in our room made up for it, being hotter & clean. There is a cute shop where you can get basic goods. Overpriced, but that's to be expected at a resort so nothing I didn't expect. I was bummed the restaurant/bar was closed 2/3 days we were there but it was my mistake for not checking. We ended up eating in the bar where the bartender, Chris, provided great service and even better conversation. Not a fan of the lemon drop, but the special was fantastic! I ordered the ribeye steak which was so tender and delicious, I loved every bite! Everything else was good, as well. Location is great, only a few miles from anything you might need. Great to be in a place giving the illusion that you are far away from everything, but in actuality you can be wherever you need in 10 minutes. This is a nice 3 to 4 star apartment style hotel in the middle of nowhere. Of course, if you need you can go to Minden and Gardnerville and find most things but it's nice to get away. The rooms are dated, but everything works. If you're looking for four and five star Accommodations better stay in the Bay Area or go up to Reno. The staff is lovely and the pools have a bunch of regulars, even the neighbors come by. They keep the price pretty high, but it doesn't get too crowded and I think they probably use it in the timeshare pitch to explain why someone should buy a timeshare. Timeshares are a terrible investment, so Barb be aware on those. But this was a good exchange and we will definitely return. Some of the buildings and rooms are newer and better. We were in the a building this time right above the lobby so the reviews about crappy views and exhaust from the cars coming in is very true. There's also a really bad view from the parking lot side of building a. The other buildings have views of the wetlands for the most part and Have nice upgrades. They've also built four full house-style timeshares on the property. I bet those exchange as two or three bedroom apartments. We did not take a tour and we did not express any interest in a time share pitch. And they did not oversell or pursue us like some other reviewers noted. read more

Ever since they sold the place to Holiday Inn express the place has really declined in many ways. They used to have a nice coffee shop that would give you gourmet coffee in the mornings, but they decided that maybe it wasn't as much of a money maker, and they took it away. I enjoyed having breakfast in that shop, and now it's just a "convenience" store. Their main restaurant used to be amazing! Things are not as good anymore, and they have competition at the main town. They just need to improve their restaurant with a better menu, and a flavor to match the excellent view and ambience they still have. I think the only good part is the bar. Even their events, like Mother's Day, is not what it used to be. read more

The "hot springs" is just 20 hot tubs and a heated pool. Theres nothing special about it and they're dirty. Then the restaurant we tried to eat lunch there and the server said he was the only one and if we wanted to sit down and order food it would be "quite a while" so we left. Terrible experience! Service was excellent. The restaurant is dark but window seating around the edges is next to windows and the scenery ranges from hot pools with guests to open fields with tulles and geese. At night it all looks the same. The menu has changed and is a bit more limited. The day we were there two of us ordered Caesar salads and later were told there was no Caesar dressing. The recommended change of dressing was excellent and maybe better than had we had Caesar dressing. The other two in our party ordered spinach salads and were quite happy with them. We shared a peach cobbler which was smaller than previous ones and ice cream was served on the side as opposed to on top. We've always liked this restaurant. Liked it better when it served brunch and the menu was more extensive but we'll be back. read more

Very disappointed. We used to come here often but this might be the last straw. We showed up to stay for a week. Bought groceries as rooms come with a full kitchen. Woke up in the morning to find the fridge took a dump. Not a big deal, stuff like this happens. Took it to the front desk as I'm sure they would make it right and pay us out for our loss. They did... sort of. They gave us the exact amount to spend at their restaurant or store. Instead of moving us rooms, they removed our door, brought in a new fridge, had to disassemble the old one. Just seems like a lot of work. Moving rooms would make sense? We looked past it. Next, we noticed the room covered in ants and spiders. We thought for sure they'd move us rooms. Nope! Maintenance came in and sprayed raid in the entire room. They told us to keep out for several hours. The smell of raid filled the room, our entire stay... Customer service is easy. Make it right. The good: - convenient location (30 min to Tahoe, 15 min to Heavenly NV side, 10 min to Minden where you can find supermarkets, 20 min to Carson City where you can find everything) - the rooms have great views and are spacious - heated pool and hot springs on site - small playground for the kids - enough amenities on site- game room, sauna, laundry room (1 bedroom units have laundry in unit) - short walking path with awesome views - overall great bang for your buck The not so great: - The rooms are dated and definitely due for an upgrade. Everything is worn, from the carpets to the kitchen cabinets. Our dishwasher had a broken wheel. Also found a couple of leaks - one under the sink and one in the shower which eventually led to a small piece of the ceiling falling (yikes). - There's virtually no sound proofing. If you're in a 1BR or studio that's connected to another unit via door, you can hear everything through that door, even the laundry next door. Pray for quiet neighbors. Also can hear everything going on above you. - no recycling bins in the rooms or anywhere on premises. This Californian died a little inside throwing glass and plastic bottles into the trash - finally, rodents chewed through the wires under the hood of our car while we were parked here overnight!!!! This could have happened anywhere, but it doesn't help that there is a large dumpster full of garbage right in the parking lot. If you can overlook the datedness and some of the facilities that are in need of repair, this is a great option for anyone wanting an apartment style lodging close to Tahoe without the crazy Tahoe pricing and crowds. read more

It's rare I do my review on day one of a three night stay, but it can't possibly get better. It never ceases to amaze me why the worst hotels are always trying to sell a timeshare. And this place is a mess. I arrived at 10:15 p.m. and they were still willing to try to sell me a timeshare. I couldn't get my key when I checked in I had to walk across the lobby to the sales person who made me wait through another customer getting the sales pitch. It's the whole writing a number on a piece of paper garbage. 15 minutes later I got my key in my parking pass. Why would anyone need a parking pass here. It's in the middle of nowhere. No one would park here if they weren't unfortunate enough to be staying here. And don't arrive after dark. There's very little lighting around the property. It took us almost another 20 minutes to find our room in this dark maze of 1960s buildings. The room is akin to a 1962 roadside motel. Old dirty carpet on the floor. A bathroom the size of a postage stamp. In the bathroom you'll find two dollar store bath towels. The real kicker comes when you peel down the sheets on the bed and realize the housekeeper didn't really finish making the bed. The fitting sheet isn't even attached. The next morning I called and asked if they would be doing housekeeping and they said no only every 7 days because this is a vacation resort. I asked, well could the housekeeper at least come in and finish making the bed. She says, "we wouldn't be able to do that." Makes me wonder what rule is governing their strict housekeeping policy. Keep in mind, they charge an amenity fee. They say the amenity fee pays for your gym and pool and other such things. The place is a dump. If you're going to stay in the area pick a legitimate hotel not a 1960s bankrupt timeshare. I'm stuck here for the next two days. Wish me luck. read more

I stayed here a few years ago after being surprised for a weekend getaway. We had massages booked and spent sometime in the outdoor hot springs! We had a romatic table at 1862 Salon and restaurant for dinner. I recall our server not knowing much about how a few dishes were prepared or their wine list. I'm no connoissuer, but I pride myself in what I took away from fine dining. It was a nice getaway without kids! Sauna and hot springs are my jam! I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, but we stayed on the property and our bed was like a cot! I guess they didn't want us to sleep! I would come back, but I wouldn't want to sleep on a mattress like that again. My only suggestion: Please update your beds! It's a beautiful relaxing space! It's family friendly and I love the charm Genoa has to offer. I make it out this way annually for festivals or just to pass time! read more

Very low key! Popular with locals and although they are technically located inside the Holiday Inn Resort, they are separate entity. Meaning, you still have to pay the $55 hot spring day pass even if you are guests of the resort. With the entrance fee you get to dip in the the 7 tubs and heated pool, access to sauna and steam room, lockers and showers. When we were there at the end of October, they were working on the 3 dipping pools. So, they had to locked the door from the locker rooms to the pool area. We had to go out through the entrance and entered through the side gate. A little bit "Ergh" but, okay! They gave us discount for the inconvenience. We paid $44 local price for the 2 of us. Now, here's why I took 1 star off. The temperature in the hot spring pools was not hot enough. I dont know if our tolerance was higher bcs we sauna and hot tubbing a lot. But, it felt just luke warm. The sauna and steam rooms in the ladies locker were not hot enough. My husband said the men's were awesome. $44 that we paid for the 2 of us was a good price. If we had to pay $55 per person, I would have given this facility 2 stars. Towels are for those who forgot to bring one. I dont remember there were toiletries provided. I came to David Walley's Resort for my one year anniversary with my wife, and I was incredibly disappointed. The weekend trip was not worth the $670 and definitely not up to the expectations you would have for a Holiday Inn Resort. What they call a Villa is really just a dated and run down suite. When we arrived, there was a horrible musty and chemical odor in the room. We had to buy deodorizing spray from a store in town to cover the smell and we needed to spray every time we came back to the room. Half the light switches didn't work, the dishwasher was falling apart, and many of the tiles on the counter were cracked or missing. There was no thermostat in our room and we had to suffer 80 degrees or more at night. The screen doors were busted and we couldn't even open the doors at night or else bugs would swarm the room. The room had a ton of insects and spiders. Cobwebs were in the closet, bathroom, and in the corners of the ceiling. I killed half a dozen spiders and had a black widow walk by my foot while sitting on the toilet. The room is also disgustingly dirty. My feet turned black by just walking through the dining room and kitchen. I feel like this room hasn't been mopped in months. The shower had mold in the caulking and the shower head just trickled water since it was so clogged of hard water scale. I cannot recommend anyone stay here. The cost for what you get is absurd and the room's cleanliness and bug infestations are unacceptable. read more

The rooms and accommodations were very dated. The bed was very very uncomfortable and we couldn't sleep. We had to bring in a mattress topper just to sleep there. The laundry facilities were disgusting and ruined my clothes with bleach that was left in the machine. One of the machines was leaking water all of the floor. And it was like this for several days. The hot springs pools were not very clean and the bathrooms were filthy. Piles of dirty towels and garbage. The steam rooms were out of service and two of the hot tubs were out of order also. The girl working at the front desk of the hot springs area was horrible. She was rude, unfriendly and annoyed that we were even asking questions. We ended up only using this area twice because it was so dirty and she was so awful. The girl that checked us in was really nice, however when we came back to ask for a wine opener the older lady working was so rude and unprofessional that we couldn't believe it! The maids were helpful when we needed towels or supplies and honestly this was the best part. We will NEVER stay here again and will NEVER recommend it. read more

Overlooking the parking lot and the check in driveway so that our balcony is over a never ending line of cars coming in and out. First, the location is great. You can still access the lake and other activities, but you're not paying that extra premium of being up in the mountains. The rooms are spacious, especially if you get a suite. But the bad-- (1) Kitchen areas in suites are outdated, and the primary pool needs an upgrade as well. I was not impressed with the hot springs. But the kids still enjoyed it. I suppose I expected more from a resort of this type. (2) Expect a sales call from the staff directly into your hotel room. You get pressured (mild sales tactics) to attend a timeshare presentation. Sure, you're paid money, but you're also earning that money with your time. Then they pressure you into spending it on their product that you might not (and probably shouldn't) want. (3) There was a male I observed multiple times hanging out with a housekeeper while she was doing (or supposed to be doing) her work, presumably entering guest rooms with guest properly. I don't think he was employee--I sensed he was a boyfriend or similar. Maybe he's a great guy, but I don't know that. All I know is there's more risk of theft or worse by people who hang around and are unaccountable to management and without any business purpose. This was November 9-11. (4) Whoever the host was at the on-site restaurant--female, mid-40s to 50s, slender, blonde or gray hair pulled back--There's a way to communicate negative information, and then there's rudeness. So, no, I don't recommend this place. It worked for my group, which was medium size, and to be honest some of them had no complaints and would return. Not me. I'm not surprised that the rating is as low as it is here, and I only looked at it after I began observing the problems outlined above. read more

This time our party of four order salmon- they liiked it-shrimp alfredo- "fine" and two platters of seafood platter- fried- how hard is it to fuck this up???? Wellllll they did. No option for the coconut shrimp- no dipping sauce except ketchup- tarter- could use a coconut sauce or sweet chili- SOMETHING but no nothing.. the $300 we paid for the room is definitely not worth what we're getting in return. Good: it's beautiful. Karen in the market/ hot springs check-in is the sweetest person who really cares about the guests. Bad: 1. the villa we stayed in from Holiday Inn had a very strong smell that grossed me out. It made me not want to be in the room. 2. The restaurant was closed the entire time during our stay and we had to drive all around to find a place to have dinner. We were not told it would be closed when we made reservations. 3. The pump for the hot springs was broken while we were there and the pools were closed. The entire reason we went there was to enjoy the hot springs and it was closed for maintenance. 4. When we complained, they did offer a discount but it was not a great one and the trip felt like a waste because NOTHING was open. 5. The staff oversell the timeshares at checkin. I would like to try it again one day when things are open, but I will definitely only do a day trip and not stay overnight. read more
