I followed Dr. Mele here from her previous practice, even though this office is out of my way. Dr. Mele has been my dentist for the past 5 years and did a tremendous amount of work to repair many years of neglect (a combination of fear and bad experiences). I avoided the dentist for more than a decade, so you can imagine the embarrassment and anxiety I felt when I was finally forced to make an appointment due to a dental emergency; not to mention the condition of my teeth. Dr. Mele made sure that I have a comfortable, pain-free experience, that I am well informed regarding my treatment plan and that I understand that I am a part of the treatment decision process. Dr Mele is an extremely caring person and a meticulous professional. She holds herself to very high standards for the care she provides. I highly recommend Dr. Mele especially to those who are scared of the dentist or feel hopeless about their current situation. As for the office, the front desk staff worked with me to transfer my dental records, despite resistance from my previous dental office. I like the fact that this office understands that 8-5 folks need evening and weekend hours, so I was able to get an appointment without a disruption to my workday. I've only seen Dr. Julie Davis and she's been nothing short of outstanding. I chose to do Invisalign following a thorough consultation with Dr. Davis. After not seeing the exact results I was hoping for with the first set of trays, Dr. Davis consulted with several other doctors to develop a winning game-plan for my specific case. Fast forward a year- I just finished my last trays and could not be happier with the outcome! This review is specifically for negative experiences with the front desk staff, one employee in particular. I have been a patient here for 3 years. During this time, my interaction with the dentists and hygienist staff have always been pleasant, which is why is so disappointing to be writing this review. I have had multiple billing issues, including being overbilled for services, which I will share as well. However, my most recent experience here is what is leading to me finally leaving a review. I called to check in for my cleaning, as requested by the practice and Helen answered the phone. I was asked a series of questions, including "Have you received the Covid vaccination?" As I am entitled to medical privacy, my reply was "that is private medical information." There then appeared to be no problem, as she just told me she would need to ask screen questions, which were do you have symptoms, have you had exposure, have you traveled out of state in 14 days. All of which I answered. Fast forward to my entering the office after having been authorized to do so, she handed me a mask to put on, which I did. They took my temp and oxygen levels, no problems. Helen then proceeds to tell me that because I declined to answer whether I had received the Covid vaccination, she was just going to answer 'No' I had not received it. I asked her why would she be marking me as a 'no' when she hadn't been told no by me. Her response was alarming, "If you are not going to answer if you have had the vaccination, I'm just going to assume that you didn't." I pushed back saying how can you fill out medical data based on your assumptions, not my answer? Helen became hostile and patronizing telling me "Jenna, I'm not going to argue with you". What?!?! You have the audacity to fill in medical charts based on your ASSUMPTIONS? Needless to say, this raised serious ethical and legal concerns for me. I shared this experience with Dr. Engert after my appointment and she agreed that Helen cannot fill out medical data based on what she wants to do rather than patient answers. To her credit, she did say she would address this with Helen and the rest of the staff that if a patient declines to answer, they will need to mark it as "unknown". My last experience with Helen was also extremely negative. After two years of having them bill my insurance first for normal visits like cleanings, they suddenly changed their policy to collect payment from the patient upfront and have the patient wait for insurance to send payment for reimbursement. I asked questions about this, got no good answers, so I said I would prefer that you bill insurance first as I have never had a copayment or any other balanced due from cleanings. She was aggressive and patronizing then too. It would appear Helen does not like having patients question her authority and has no problem talking down to them when they have legitimate concerns. These negative interactions and concerns about accurate recording of medical data have overshadowed the rest of our experience with this practice and we will be looking elsewhere for dental care. read more

Before my appointment confirmed with the staff up front that they accepted my insurance. Only after they did the work did they tell me that they didn't and charged me the full bill. After research online this seems to be the dentistry's practice to make up income that they had lost during the pandemic. They will flat out lie to you to get your money. When you disagree they send you to a collection company. The most unprofessional unorganized business I have ever gone to. Stay far away or you will lose a lot more than your teeth. read more

Highly recommend this practice; they're wonderful! The front desk was absolutely pleasant and friendly to work with. The hygienist, Lynn, did a thorough evaluation of my teeth and gums. It's been some time since I've been to the dentist, so I knew my mouth wasn't going to be in the best of health. My dental cleaning was quick, thorough, and painless. I had Dr. Julie come in to assess my teeth, and offered me options to correct some dental issues I had, as well as quoting me a price for my next appointment. Marci got back to me instead of susan in the form of a letter in the mail....... Regular customer for 10 years, why not pick up the phone????? So I took the initiative to call and Marci answered the phone and we proceeded to argue for 15 to 20 minutes. I called my brother and had him look in his calender for his last appointment, it was in Dec 2008. So they are wrong and miss coded everything. Marci and team pride themselves on never making a mistake and find it utterly shocking that its even possible. So rather than believe a 10 year customer its better to push them back to preserve the fantasy that they are perfect. Very interesting business model. I believe all has been corrected, they have their work cut out for them to get all our records correct and refile everything with the insurance companies...... but my feelings for this establishment have changed, I'm not really sure I want to go back, I think Dr. Davis should give me a call and make things right. I think the entire team needs to eat a big slice of humble pie. read more

I have been a patient at Davis and Engert for about 20 years, and now my kids and husband are as well. The entire team is kind, gentle and professional. My kids (age 4 and 5) always look forward to their visits. I have never had to wait longer than two minutes in the wait room because their scheduling is so precise. I've been a patient of Dr. Engerts for over 20 years - so that pretty much says it all. Dr. Engert is kind, has great people skills, but most importantly, her and her staff (specifically Lynn and Amy - my hygienists) have helped keep my teeth clean and in tact. Big kudos to Amy one more time for doing and outstanding job deep cleaning my Dad's teeth and gums- they were in really bad shape, and it took multiple sessions to correct years of bad dental work from another dentist. My Mom says she doesn't hesitate to kiss him anymore. Dr. Engert and her team also do a great job supporting the community. I produced a couple of fundraisers, and Dr. Engert and Marcy ensured that the promotional posters were prominently placed in the office in order to raise awareness. Moreover, they treat you like they saw you only just yesterday, even though it was probably 6+ months ago. I evacuated to Chicago from hurricane Irma and upon landing chipped my front tooth enough to hurt really bad. I started calling dentists in the area at 1pm on a Saturday. Not only did they accommodate me within minutes, but it was after hours as they close at 1pm. I can't thank the Dr. and her staff enough for taking care of me. Nobody enjoys a trip to the dentist, but Drs. Davis and Engert make it a pleasurable experience. The doctors and hygenists are very friendly. I started off with Dr. Engert for several years, then several years with Dr. Davis, and now back with Dr. Engert again. They are both exceptional. The staff always remembers the regular patients, and you can tell from hearing them talking to other patients that it's not just the fact that I've been going here most of my life - they really do make the effort to know everyone. The office itself is very modern, with a TV mounted in the ceiling that you can watch while you're having your teeth cleaned (and headphones so you can actually hear it over the noise from the cleanings). I had been a patient for many years. Sadly, things have really gone downhill here. I needed an implant and the price seemed high but what did I know. Then during the process, there were "additional" charges that were not disclosed when I was quoted the price to have the implant. Then, during the 5 month process, I had another tooth crack. They quoted me a price for a crown and/or implant. My dental insurance wouldn't cover this one and the price on this one was much higher than the one covered by insurance (I'm talking the before insurance coverage price). Davis and Engert couldn't explain the difference; and telling me how much they value old time patients! Well........ I started looking around and found a dental practice that quoted me prices almost half what Davis & Engert were charging me. I was concerned about the level of care and quality is get; but I LOVE my new dentist. The level of care and professionalism has far exceeded my expectations. If you are using Davis and Engert (especially if you've been going there for years as I was), look around. You can get better care at much lower prices; I did! read more

They were wonderful! I was running late to my appointment and all I had to do was call and they were able to bump my appointment time and see me the same day (and didn't guilt me about oversleeping!). The whole staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and makes you feel at home-even in the dreaded dentist chair. I also don't have dental insurance and their prices were very reasonable, especially considering their extremely high level of care. I'm actually looking forward to going back! read more

So I wanted to use my yearly dental cleaning before the year was up and I found Davis an Engert was close to work and made an appointment. Unfortunately they were not in my insurance network so the rate was higher than expected. The service provided by the hygienist and Ms. Davis were excellent. I also learnt that cavities are due to bacteria byproduct as opposed to sugar itself. I did however get a invoice a month or so after my service which I was not please with. However they were kind enough to do the right thing and credited my account. It took a couple of contacts but once I got the right person I didn't even have to explain why I felt the charges were incorrect. If they were in my network they would be my new dentist. I would recommend them 100%. read more

I am very disappointed in this business. I was looking for a dentist and Dr. Engert was recommended by a friend. I went to one brief consultation appointment and then scheduled an appointment to have a cleaning. I was on my way to the appointment when I got a call that my partner had had a heart attack and was in the emergency room. Yes, I missed the appointment. I called later to explain, but their policy is very firm, miss an appointment, pay a big fee. I paid the fee, but I would prefer to work with a dentist that has some compassion. I found a new dentist that sees me as a person, not a payment. read more

I have always cringed at the thought of going to the dentist, even to get my teeth cleaned. I returned to Chicago and my old neighbor recommended Arlene Engert. I have faithfully had my teeth cleaned every six months and have had dental work done to replace old cavities. While my fear of all things dental is still there, the staff helps me cope and the headphone/ceiling mounted tv gives me something to focus on. Everyone is friendly and competent. Very friendly staff and modern office with state of the art equipment. I hardly ever have to wait when I get there, even when I'm early. You could watch TV on the ceiling while your teeth are getting clean or be shown whats going on with your teeth via tiny camera. I am so absolutely glad I found this office. I had been searching for a new dentist for a bit and found them through a friend's referral. Right when I walked in the staff was friendly and welcoming. The office atmosphere is professional yet comfortable. On my first visit they sat down to talk to me about what I'm looking for and told me about the services they offer. I have been with them for over a year now and have pretty good teeth. I've run into a few things (chips from clenching) and they fixed me right up, my teeth feel better than they did before the chips! I referred my husband and he has been going through more extensive work (cavities and crowns) and they have done a fantastic job. They worked with us to make sure everything with our insurance was set and have been amazingly friendly the whole time. I have only been a patient for a short time with this family dentist but feel like I'm treated like family and they have earned my loyalty. read more
