Look, we didn't know whether our chimney needed cleaning. We just bought the house. So we give Dave a call and he comes over and says nope, it doesn't need it, you're fine. He's got one price for cleaning and a lower one for inspection, and the thing is that he absolutely knew he could have charged me for a cleaning, and done like no work, and I would have happily paid him. And then after that, I'm - remember this is the first real house I've lived in, it was all cities before - so I'm like can you explain how all of this works? Which part of my living room am I supposed to light on fire? Found Dave through a local Facebook group, and he came so highly recommended that we had to try him. Gave him a call and was able to reach him - he told me that he's not the best at returning voicemails (as he is so popular), and the best way to book an appointment is to get him live on the phone. He was out in a matter of days, and arrived at exactly the time he had said he'd be there. He gave our fireplace / chimney a thorough inspection, and gave us some great pointers on keeping it in good condition. Had Davis Chimney come out a few years ago to clean chimney. Was told we needed a stainless steel liner. Had him do the work. Seemed to be fine until a couple of years later was told it wasn't a complete job. Thought that company was looking for work so didn't do anything about it. Just had a another company clean the chimney. Said the same thing. Very disappointed. In order to fix it's going to cost $$$. Due to heavy rain last night, I was getting rain/water in my chimney and fire box. First thing this morning I called to get someone to come and inspect my chimney. I explained the issue, and the guy told me I need a cap. I have a cap. He asked me where I was, I told him Medford, and he told me that he was too far away. His webpage says he's in Arlington, and when I said that I thought he was in Arlington, he said, I know where I live. Arlington is next to Medford. He was nasty and condescending. Dave responded quickly to my inquiry about cleaning my chimneys, and came by in a couple days. He gave a time window when he would arrive, and came right on time. Dave left the fireplace area totally clean after sweeping the chimney. For the furnace and water heater chimney, Dave inspected it, and said it looked good, so it did not need cleaning. I was a little nervous using this company with only one review, but I am so glad I did! I needed someone to look over the fireplace in my new house before Christmas. Dave was able to fit me in the very next day, and he did such a great job. He basically renovated my outdated fireplace for me, including cementing up holes, taking off outdated and broken pieces, and showing me how everything works, without charging me any more than he originally quoted for just the cleaning. Well, I wouldn't know about his service because he said he won't clean a chimney for a fireplace with a wood stove. But I tried to call for a quote and he was incredibly rude on the phone and I barely got my question out before he hung up on me. It makes me wonder how people like that stay in business. read more
