Downgrading to two stars. I still stand by the initial review (hence the second star) - Hiram did respond promptly when we were somewhat desperate and cobbled something together that seemed to work. Until it didn't. A few months after the install, all units stopped working after a storm. After months of back-and-forth, he finally realized -- through trial and error - that the boards of all units are fried and need to be replaced. His best guess? "Your condenser probably got hit by lightning" (condenser is on the roof, but we have a lightning rod; there's been no indication otherwise that the building got hit by lightning). A few weeks pass by, some more rain, same thing happens again. Replace all the boards again. "Your condenser keeps getting hit by lightning". A few more weeks, same thing again. By this point a year has passed after the install and we have spent most of that year with our $30,000 mini splits completely non-functional. It's also pretty clear that it's an issue with the install and nothing to do with imaginary lighting. Then Hiram has the audacity to inform us that our one-year contract has expired and now we have to start paying him for repairs, even though this issue started while we were still under contract and has persisted for months because Hiram has simply been unable to fix it. At this point, I was willing to just move on and hire a more competent contractor to fix the issue. That's when we started having other contractors look at the system and realized what a horrendous job Hiram had done. Most egregiously, the wiring had been done incorrectly, creating a huge FIRE HAZARD and potentially exposing our entire household and our neighbors to significant PROPERTY DAMAGE and potentially loss of life. See attached screenshot from assessment. In addition, there have been numerous other issues with the install: - Water repeatedly leaking from the heat pumps into our house when it rains - Exposed lines - Condenser freely standing on the roof, not affixed to anything - Slopily taped line set covers - Sloppily installed water pumps - Overall poor craftsmanship See attached images. We are currently addressing the issues one by one with multiple contractors. To be clear, WE ARE STILL WITHOUT A/C TWO YEARS AFTER THE INSTALL. We only really had it working for ~6 months. Unclear if it's even salvageable. In hindsight, there were also multiple red flags that we overlooked in the beginning, but should have given us pause: - Hiram did not know that Fujitsu is Japanese. How can you not know the country of origin of your main supplier? - He drilled through brick in our apartment without any precautions, filling our entire house with brick dust. He had no idea it's hazardous to breathe in, he didn't even put a mask on himself. Our entire condo was covered in brick dust. We had a 1-year-old kid at the time. - He did not clean up properly after himself, our son ended up with a glass shard in his foot Overall, I would not recommend Hiram's services to anyone. He is polite and responsive, but when push comes to shove, his work is not just poor quality, but outright dangerous. Hiram, before you post some sob response like "I'm just trying to feed my family man", consider this - you put my family, and my neighbors' families at risk because of your incompetence. And you ultimately refused to take responsibility. You should be ashamed of your work and of your character. (Responding to Hiram's response) -- there were no "stories", I was just trying to help you figure out what could be causing this. Yes, you definitely blamed lightning multiple times. I had multiple contractors take a look at it and say the same things. This is not "Mother Nature". This is just a plain bad job. read more

Hiram did a fantastic job installing 3 Mitsubishi mini splits into our home. He was able to give us solid recommendations based on our use cases (huge downstairs space, smaller upstairs spaces) and was very communicative and professional throughout the entire process. For instance, at one point during the install he realized a drain pipe needed to be run through an existing bedroom closet. There were 2 options with regards to how to install the pipe and he consulted me explaining the pros and cons of each before doing the work. I thought this was great as opposed to just doing the work one way and not telling us. It is extremely obvious that he cares about doing good work and ensuring the end result is something both he and the homeowner can be proud of. Hiram is efficient and effective. I've had a horrible experience with one of the larger HVAC companies that charge for every little item so they can afford all the middle managers. They left me with a broken machine and wanted to charge another $400 to investigate an issue they caused, not including a charge to fix it. Hiram is very fast to respond. I got 6 quotes for ac installation and his was the most reasonable. He was also the fastest to respond to every concern. He did a great job and installed 4 units here. He would answer my emails at most the next day when others could take days. The only problem/benefit is that he is not a big company with several employees. The benefit is that his prices are very competitive. The problem with that is that he does not have stock of the equipment so he is subject to supply issues and delays so we had to reschedule or initial appointment due to that. That is the only reason that I lowered my review as I really wanted the system installed in mid-May when I had guests coming and wanted it to be comfortable here, and due to supply delays we had the installation at the end of June. However it was installed just in time as the next day it was 90 outside and I posted a screenshot of the temperature outside and the thermometer in my office with the AC on at it's lowest fan setting where you couldn't hear a thing. Also due to bad insulation in my attic, my office tends to be 5 degrees warmer inside then outside. Instead thanks to the AC installation from Hiram it was 67. The AC installation is a project I've been thinking of doing for years and Hiram helped it become a reality. read more

We recently purchased a home that did not have a filter in the HVAC system and the vents were horrendous. The technician came out and cleaned all of the vents, even finding some abandoned toys. However, he was fairly late and I had to reach out to the main office to see when he would be there. All told, I'm very glad that we had the vents cleaned before move in. TL;DR; Hiram is very responsive. But don't expect him to sign a contract to put you at ease. And based on other reviews his company is amazing for duct cleanings and those emergency HVAC repairs. But stay away for large installs or any contract work. And don't pay him until he has finished the work. I wanted to hire Hiram for HVAC installation service. Here is an honest telling of my experience. I asked for a quote and Hiram came in with the second lowest bid out of 4 bids. He was very responsive and because of this I thought his company would be great to hire. Since the amount of work and cost was significantly over $70k I asked Hiram and his partner to sign a contract using a boilerplate templated MA contract. In the contract I listed the scope of work and a payment schedule. The contract has other boilerplate requirements like needing worker's compensation insurance which is required by the city. Hiram's company isn't licensed to do ductwork installs (only equipment installs) so he subcontracts to another vendor, usually his partner Druziako Heating and Cooling (3.5 star yelp). So both parties had to sign the contract. After some wrangling over the contract details I thought we finally had an agreement. Then in the last minute, they refused the contract citing that the "payment schedule was too confusing" even though I used exactly their proposed payment schedule. I even agree to pay them everything before the final Somerville city inspection even though payment before inspection is highly suspect. Ok fine, they didn't want to sign a written contract even though they are "HVAC contractors". But let's move on. Separately Hiram told me that I needed a manual J calculation for his partner to pull the permit (because he is not officially licensed to pull sheet metal permits in MA). So I trusted him and paid him $700 on Venmo to do the calculations. After a few days he sent me an undecipherable uncertified PDF file with a list of rooms using coolcalc.com. I had asked him to calculate by floor so that we can accurately gauge the AC equipment to install on each floor. But he only provided me a report with a list of rooms and no separation by floor -- insisting that this is "how it is". But without floor-separate calculations this report is not useful for the purposes of confirming the equipment to install! So I complained and asked him to correct it. But Hiram insisted that this is how it is and encouraged me to "take (him) to court". Since he won't correct the problem I next asked him for a refund because the calculations are neither certified/stamped. The document is not useful to me and another firm I hire will want to do their own manual J calculations. He refused and stated that he spent 3 hours on the task. But all the data was all provided to him in the form of floor plans and even the duct plans were provided, he just had to do data entry. Why ask your customer to pay for something that only they can use then pull out of the deal but not refund the customer? It definitely feels scam-my. Also consider this: If Gemini won't even correct a manual J calculation. What good is their promise of 1 year of warranty for your HVAC install? Their promise is empty. If Hiram asks you to pay for a manual J calculation just politely decline and do it yourself and save that money. If you are shopping around for an installer I highly recommend AVOIDING this company. Definitely ask for their license info first (you might be surprised with what you find), and insist on signing a real contract -- an estimate, or "trust me bro I am a HVAC pro" is NOT a contract. Certainly don't fall into the trap of paying for a manual J or expect remedy for fixes to work after you've paid them! Because your money is gone. P.S. Addressing Hiram's reply. 1) I did call to verify Hiram's supply company. It is legit. He did offer me their number to build trust and I appreciate that. I wanted to pay the vendor directly and know that my down payment paid for the equipment because insisted that I pay for at least $15k as the materials down payment based on trust. Down payment is fine but without a signed contract is foolish. Imagine if I'd paid him the deposit the same way I paid him for the manual J. 2) Once I joked to him that this was not a "drug deal but HVAC" to persuade him that we needed a legit contract agreement to do this work but Hiram took it as a serious insult. I do sincerely apologize - jokes don't go well on text. 3) In Hiram's response, he is concerned that I would "butt in" his work. But if a customer is not happy with the work and complains and the owner's response is "you don't know HVAC" -- is that really the kind of customer service you would want? 4) The contract does not allow me to "own" Hiram. It says that in case permits fail or no work is done that the client is refunded the original deposit. It's to protect me from contractors from walking away with the deposit. read more
