Northeast Chimney Sweeps came to my home and inspected my chimney. They told me that I had a blockage due to a fallen liner tile. However, they did not have the tool for removing the tile. The tool is a simple half-moon drill attachment which is used for braking up chimney tiles. They took numerous pictures of the inside of my chimney but never gave any pictures to me. They said that they would return with the correct tool. They charged me nearly $300 and never returned. I called their office and was told that I was on their waiting list for a return visit. They simply disappeared with my money. Avoid them! read more

Joe did an amazing job. We had a chimney cap blow off during the harsh winter, and he came out on New Years Eve (his first opening) to check it out and reassure us. He was very patient and explained the best way to fix it without compromising quality and longevity. We decided not to go with another chimney company that had proposed a temporary shortcut solution. Joe and team did excellent work, fit it into one day when the weather was good so we didn't have to wait months until the spring, and I was so happy I had him clean out the ash pit too and fix our liner alignment in the process. What great people! We moved into our house over a year ago but never got around to having the chimney cleaned or inspected inside, and were afraid to light a fire until doing so. Brenda was transparent about the fact that it's busy season, and let us know a timeline for a longer wait while also giving us the option to be added to a wait list for something sooner if an opening came up. She was very understanding if we wanted to look elsewhere, but their prices were much more reasonable than the other quotes we received and we could tell they'd offer good service, so we decided to wait. Fast forward, there's a snow storm and I bet a bunch of folks canceled their appointments, so we were in luck! Ben came out on time (still during a snow storm) and showed me how to operate our flue (I'm clueless), explained what he was going to do, and set out ample sheeting and cardboard to keep our area clean. He also set up a vacuum to ensure soot wouldn't go all over the place. The service was quick, professional, reasonably priced, and we will 100% be using Northeast Chimney Sweeps every time we need a cleaning. Love that it included an inspection, too. We bought an antique house a few years ago, and have fires pretty much every night when it's cold outside. A real fireplace was on my 'must' list when house hunting, and my husband indulges me and hauls wood in every night for a cozy blaze. We needed the chimney swept, but had never done this before, here or in previous homes which didn't have fireplaces. After a lot of review reading, we called Northeast Chimney Sweeps based on the positive reviews and the fact it's a local business, and couldn't be more pleased. Setting up the appointment was easy, Joe was on time, cleaned the chimney and chimney caps, even removing the damper to be thorough, and I learned a lot about chimneys in the process. They were professional, friendly and left the house cleaner than it was when they arrived. They use drop cloths to protect any furniture or rugs, but when he was done the drop cloths weren't even that dirty. I recommend them without hesitation and we'll be using them again in the future. Call them and clean up your chimney, I was amazed at how much creosote builds up if you're a heavy wood burner, and even if you only have the occasional fire, they'll let you know if the cleaning is needed or not. Better safe than sorry, chimney fires are no joke. Five stars. read more

He also attached pictures of our chimney, along with pictures of repairs he's made to others for comparison. In conversation, he also described some minor issues he noticed with our eaves and gutters. The first two estimates pulled the typical if you do not add a new liner and clean your flu your family will die. The work estimate for the work I asked for was also very high from these other companies. After reading Joe's reviews I asked him to come in and give an estimate. Joe was extremely thorough in all aspects of the estimate and then in completing the project. His estimate was detailed and provided multiple options for proceeding with the project. He also gave detailed explanations for each of the options he provided. Joe came in at the exact time he promised and completed the work very quickly with his two daughters! He then sent us a detailed report of how he completed the work and why he made the decisions he did. I wish there were more stars to give! I scheduled an appointment for a cleanup with Northeast in the Fall as I was having soot/smoke enter and it just started happening. Joe and his crew came out to Stoneham and did a thorough clean up (I have not lived here that long) they removed animals, etc. I asked Joe if he thought the clean-up would solve my problem? He stated that I had some issues with the amount of space that was available for the smoke to leave the house and although the clean up may help he didn't think it would solve the problem. He wrote up a very detailed description of the problem, took great pictures way up top there to show me and explained what he thought would solve the problem. But, he NEVER pressured me. He stated maybe the clean up would help, but if not, replacing certain things may fix the problem and he was on his way - not one single bit of pressure! Fast forward 2 months later, soot and smoke still entering and I call Joe and explain I would like to replace the parts and fix the problem. Joe schedules me for next day, comes with the parts and repairs the problem. What I would like to add is Joe is probably one of the nicest, most HONEST, polite, enthusiastic and easy going business owners I've ever dealt with. I've owned several homes in my day and I use contractors quite often and I'm sorry I didn't use Northeast before this year! If I could have given 10 stars I would have!!!! read more

Could not have been more impressed with NCS. Easily one of the best service providers and contractors I have ever dealt with. Not only did go do an excellent job of actually cleaning my fireplace, he removed an animal nest from the roof and walked me through how to use the fireplace in great detail. During the busiest time of the year we started to smell exhaust fumes in our house, and we looked for a professional to help us solve the problem. We couldn't find anyone to come and give us an estimate. Those who agreed to come, wanted to charge us around 400$ for a chimney inspection, regardless the chimney condition or the problem. But Joe came right away, at the end of his work day, because of the nature of the problem. He did a few thorough tests to find the source of the problem, while explaining everything during the process and giving us some very useful tips. He didn't charge for his one hour visit, even though we offered. Two days later he emailed us his conclusions and a reasonable estimate. Joe was very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. My chimney Cap blew off and I was afraid critters would try to get into my chimney so I immediately called a few places. Almost everyone said that I needed to purchase a new chimney Cap through them and pay for the install or it wouldn't be worth their time. However, I have two chimneys and I wanted the existing one replaced so they would match. Then I contacted Joe from Northeast Chimney and he worked with me and came over and inspected the chimney Cap and said it was fine and he replaced it while charging much less. Per the website, I used their contact for to try and schedule an appointment as they indicated that would be the best way. I waited a week and heard nothing. I just left a message telling them that they are not authorized to do any work for me, in case they would show up when I am not home and try and go forward. I am always leary of these phone calls, but I did a quick check on Angie's List and Yelp and the reviews were great so we scheduled with them. I was a little worried that they would do hard sell on a million things that were wrong and needed to be fixed right away. I couldn't have been more wrong with my concerns. The guys came in and were pleasant and friendly. They assessed both of our chimneys and cleaned one of them as planned. The price was amazing for the work they did. They also suggested we get chimney caps and gave us a price but it was not at all pushy or aggressive. At some point we will put the caps on and will definitely call Northeast. read more

Terrible!!! Basically took our money and ran! Cleaned the chimney in about 5.2 seconds and barley vacuumed up debris. Husband had to go back and vacuum it up. Peter was soooo busy trying to "sell" another system, he came off way too pushy and was doing the typical salesman pitch. We saw right through it! Glad we didn't fall for it. If you are choosing a chimney job contractor, look no further. We had perfect, and I do not use the word lightly, experience with this company. Joe is fast, efficient, professional, unbelievably old-fashioned courteous, even compassionate. The price for a basic cleaning is on the answering voice message, there is no "need an estimate to clean, be ready to bargain" bullshit. very reasonable rate. We came back from winter vacation on Friday night to a cold house - the furnace shut off. After some googling we self-diagnosed that "spill switch" triggered, indicating chimney flue blockage (thank god for that switch, that is how families die of CO poisoning). Called six different companies Saturday morning. Voice mail or answering service everywhere, one company told us that they need to send someone to estimate, and they schedule cleanings 4-5 weeks in advance. Joe's voice message clearly says "e-mail for urgent situations." Wrote to him, he answered within two hours. In the response he told that he can come next morning and apologized for being out of town! Plain humanity of his e-mail was so sweet, I was floored. He followed up with an email confirming the service that would be provided, the time scheduled and the price. He arrived promply and explained exactly what he would do (he also updated us throughout the process). We told him we were getting ready to put our house on the market and just had the woodstove removed from the fireplace for aesthetic purposes. Not only did he clean the fireplace but also replaced the damper (we still had the old one that had been removed when the woodstove was installed) since a buyer's home inspector might notice the missing damper. He said that he had an empty time slot after our appointment so he did this repair as a courtesy and did not charge us despite staying an extra hour.
