RELIABLE: I've been going to Davis Cleaners for three years now and I've always had a positive experience. It's located in a strip mall that needed a face-lift like 10 years ago. But don't be deterred, because this place is great! They are affordable and dependable. I always leave with perfectly pressed fresh dry-cleaned clothes. They are also great about making sure to check and ask for stains, and they are honest about whether they will be able to get them out. ALTERATIONS: Even though I now live in Sac, I still plan to come back to this place if I need stuff altered. It can be tough to trust the person that is going to cut and sew your clothes, because if there's a mistake, it can be unfixable. My bf had an experience at another cleaner where his slacks turned into flood pants - not his style! But here, they never let me down. I have had items altered relatively routinely for the last 6 years. With experience with least 10 different places in total, and I can say with complete confidence that this place is easily the worst alterations place I have ever been to. Allow me to elaborate. I came here for two alterations: one, to get my pants repaired (pictures included) and another set of jeans to be tapered because the legs were too wide. I was charged $15 for the repair, and $19 for the taper. That's a relatively expensive repair, but I'll admit, a reasonable price for a taper. Both of my jeans were completely ruined- I brought them to another alterations place, and they were completely baffled at the low quality of both pairs. The repaired jeans were seemingly done with zero concern and quite badly. They were unable to pull the sides of the tear together- the most basic premise of the repair. The hole was left as a hole- hardly appropriate considering that's the entire point of the repair- was to repair the hole. There was simply a piece of dark fabric underneath the hole that was sown to it's sides, which was hardly reinforced (see picture of stitching pattern). This lack of attention to detail on one of the simplest alterations tasks was already bad enough. I would've done a better job had I commuted home and used my own sowing machine. The tapered jeans were so bad, I left the store after paying, and immediately brought it down to Sarah's Alterations downtown (which did a fantastic job). I gave them a pair of jeans to model this pair after, and they were completely different in every single part of the jean. The thigh was too large, the knee had too much fabric, and the calves were too tight. Teddy, head of alterations, was extremely difficult to work with. All of the promises for the repair and taper job were not kept, and he was constantly frustrated. Another friend of mine got an alteration for the first time here as well, and our thoughts are consistent. In all, please save yourself the trouble, and pay a couple extra dollars to go a place with a better track record for alterations- my experience here was the most frustrating experience I have had with a place in my undergraduate career. There are many other places that will offer you better customer service and a far superior job on alterations. read more

Was one of my first times here, was dropping off two very expensive sweaters to get dry cleaned.. The guy that work there took down my information, realized it was my first time there and gave me a 10% off for being a first time customer.. I thought that was pretty awesome of him.. Hey have great customer service, they're polite and helpful. When I came to pick my dry cleaning I told him, he had spelt my first and last name wrong, he apologized and corrected it right away.. After I paid for everything, he helped me bring down the dry clean items and handled them to me. Smiled at me and wished me a great beautiful afternoon.. They ruined my leather jacket. Decided to get it cleaned on my vacation. I paid 50$ upfront to get my favorite jacket cleaned. The jacket still has stains and is no longer wearable. The hems have lost their shape and my arm barely fits the sleeve anymore. Jacket doesn't fit if I have a long sleeved shirt on (which is a must in my country). The inside seam on the lining has been opened and re-stitched? Maybe in attempts to save the hems and sleeves? I would have definately wanted to be informed about this. I'm upset, because they refuse to give me a refund and even more upset that I cannot wear my jacket anymore. I would never recommend this place. read more

I've been here twice in the past 4 months. The first time was to get my white shirt bleached and the second was to sew a section (wrist) on my sweater blazer on each side (left and right). The first time, my white shirt wasn't as bright as it was and there was some deodorant stains. He did an excellent job of making the shirt white again. Although the deodorant stains were still there, it was understandable. It was super pricey though. He nearly charged me $7 to bleach a shirt. Normally I wouldn't pay the service and go elsewhere, but the shirt had sentimental value and the store was close by to my home. The second time, I went in and asked how much it would cost to sew my sweater blazer because the fabric around the wrist was ripping apart. On one side it was bad, but the other side was hardly noticeable. The tear on the bad side was no more than an inch and a half. Although the material was thick and most likely needed to be sewed a few times to keep it in tact, I don't think it's worth $15. I just gave it to him to fix and he said I can pick it up on Thursday (today is Tuesday), which was fine by me. I'm sure the sew will be excellent, but I don't think it justifies the cost. I understand it's a small, local business, but it's super pricey. If you have the convenience to go elsewhere, I would for the price. Although the service is great! read more

Customer service sucks!!! Went to pick up my shirt. Order amount was $2.25 for laundering a men's standard dress shirt. This was one of my smaller orders. When I was being rung up, I presented my credit card as my form if payment which is how I always pay here w/o problems in the past. However this time, the lady (owner- very difficult to understand her English) was very harsh, rude and abrasive with me- all of a sudden- and DEMANDED that I pay with CASH instead of card in order to retrieve my shirt that I needed! I did not have any cash on me, only card. I pointed out there was no signage anywhere in the store that said "cash only if total is under $XYZ amount." She did not acknowledge what I said and blatantly ignored me. I explained I did not have cash on me, and said she could make a note in the computer to charge me next time but she refused and scoffed at me, raised her voice and declared she would charge me $2.50 instead of $2.25. She was hostile and then customer service sucks! I understand why she would charge more but I would have done more if I were her to retain me as a loyal customer and I would have said, "In the future, would you mind please paying with cash ..." instead of becoming agitated and emotionally dysregulated and demanding. My wife had her wedding dresses ironed at this store recently. They gave a discount to us which makes the price affordable given we are just low-income graduate students. The male staff is very nice and friendly. He not only ironed the dresses but also fixed some small broken parts. Overall, he did a good job and made the dresses look brand-new. This is the most expensive dry cleaners I have ever experienced and I just moved here from San Francisco, where it is not cheap by any means. To dry clean a men's button down it was $5.95, and a dress was $12.95. At my old dry cleaners a dress was $8 and a men's shirt was $1.50. I wish I had known the prices before dropping my items off and hopefully this is helpful to some yelp users who are shopping around. read more

Worst experience I have ever had with a dry cleaner. Not only did it take a really long time to get my clothes back, but when I finally did, I found out that my tie was ripped and my shirt had shrunk. A shirt that fit perfectly a week earlier, suddenly did not fit around my neck when I got it back. I would neither recommend this store nor ever return to it.
