Magical place. Fabulous staff. I know, right? A laundramat? I'm writing a review about a laundramat? Yes! In a city full of apartments and university students, this is an absolute necessity and it does the job in a way that few others do. Washers of many sizes will accommodate a week's worth of clothes, a family's worth of towels, bed linens, and whatever else needs to be washed and dried. Washers seem pricey UNTIL you realize that the dryers are free for all the time needed to get your items dry. No feeding quarters very 25 minutes. The place is SPOTLESS. An attendant is available to answer questions. They have a small selection of products if you showed up from the camp ground with no soap or softener or stain removal. Several very large folding tables are available, even large enough to handle a queen size comforter. Easy parking in the evenings. Feels super safe. The whole vibe is like grownups, ya know? I was one of 8-10 people getting stuff done a week ago or so, and it was comfortable, even at 8 pm. No patron abuse of the facilities cuz it just reeks of being cared for. I waited the agreed-upon time to get the money back into my account and I am letting you know that you charged my account multiple times and I am disputing it with my bank. It is not a temporary hold, you took my money and when I told you, you took my money you didn't care thank you They always overcharge your credit card and when you try to dispute it, they try to say that the money will be back into your card, but they charged me $13 four times. I also spoke with a journalist at the local paper, and a call has been scheduled for TUESDAY. I had to REWASH everything repeatedly, including a blanket on the bed where I unpacked everything! Disgusting! It's been going DOWNHILL for a year now and it's not getting better. You're fully staffed, how about you keep OUR KIDS SAFE and keep all homeless people out! TERRIFYING! You can add in a RACIST staff member to the list! A short Asian woman with short hair, late 40s early 50s stalks the floor, interestingly enough, in areas of the laundromat where BLACK PEOPLE are--just washing their clothes like everyone else. Mind you, the place was empty this afternoon, so I separated my load from the $9 washing machine (other machines are $13!) into 3 dryers so they dried easier. Everyone there was doing the same. However, out of the other people drying in multiple dryers she came up to me and DEMANDED, not asked. I smiled and politely and calmly said, no one is here, (maybe 5 people) and like anyone here is doing, using the large washing machine and then separating into two or three dryers so they dry faster, do I have to move one dryer into another when no one is here and rows of empty dryers are everywhere? She said something muffled by the face mask, and stormed off. RUDE! Uncalled for! The other staff doesn't behave like this! Why was I singled out? Was it the color of my skin perhaps? DISCRIMINATION! An announcement comes on to move your clothes to less dryers! I took out my clothes from two of the dryers and started folding, leaving the last to finish. As I'm folding, I turn around to check the timer on the dryer, and the DOOR was OPEN! Why did the lady do that to a PAYING customer? I didn't do anything to her, I was polite, pleasant and respectful. PETTY! Yet, she treated me like I was SUBHUMAN. People smoke CIGARETTES, with what used to be far enough away the that the smoke doesn't come in and seep into our clothes! Every time I go the smokers are allowed to come CLOSER to the door! Today, a CHAIN SMOKER was smoking literally a few steps from the front door. You could smell it from the back of the laundromat. My EYES remain irritated and RED! SECOND HAND SMOKE! Again, NO CONCERN for OUR KIDS HEALTH or SAFETY! SCARY! The other customers there were rolling their eyes, and using things to WAIVE the smoke smell away. Noticing that, I approached the lady with a SMILE, and nicely told her. She AGGRESSIVELY snaps, I don't smell anything! I am wearing a mask! I pointed to the other patrons waiving the smoke away and she again, angrily MUMBLES a word in a different language and storms to the front of the store, SEES the woman steps from the door plumes of smoke coming in the front door, and WALKS off! Cigarette smoke NEVER comes out! GROSS! Bottom line, if you don't want to WASTE your money, and you want to keep your KIDS SAFE, and wash your clothes in a CLEAN, sanitized laundromat, with NON-RACIST, staff that puts the customer FIRST, go elsewhere. Don't be fooled by their ATTEMPTS at DEFLECTION and EXCUSES. They won't DENY what happened, just try to EXPLAIN away the behavior. read more

They advertise a free dry with every wash everywhere--outside in a sign and on literally every washer in the place. I went to was an XL plushie and was charged not only the $10 for the wash, but an additional $2 transfer cost. Still a free dry, but charging for the labor of moving it, good business strategy. Scammy though, and it's not the only scammy thing this place did. While there at 2pm, my card was declined three times at one washer, and at 3 other washers. I checked my bank account and even tried two other cards, which all were denied. Finally, my card went through. I just got a notification from my bank that I was charged an extra $20 from this establishment. I called them to ask about the charges, which resulted in being verbally harassed by the establishment's owner. They claimed it was a mistake, then that it was a mistake from my bank and I should call the bank, and finally said that I should get the $20 in 2-3 business days and "to call if I don't see it." Even when I ended the call, THE OWNER CALLED ME BACK TO CONTINUE TO ARGUE WITH ME. TLDR, don't go here. They overcharge you and have horrible customer service. read more

I've been coming here for just over a year or so since it is way more convenient to wash larger items than the home washer. No employee has ever greeted me, said hello, made eye contact, or offered to assist me in any way. This didn't bother me until today. I came in just after 8:30, poured my detergent in the machine, and tapped my card. An employee yelled from aisles away "are you starting laundry?" And I said "yes." She said they don't let new loads start after 8:30. I asked when this changed, since I know when I first started coming I made a note that the last load was 9 PM. She didn't answer me, she just said "the last load is at 8:30." I asked why they are open until ten then and she said "to clean the machines." So I guess sometime in the past few months, the machines must have started taking thirty minutes longer to clean... It would have been nice if she was remotely empathetic or understanding, but what do I know I'm just a customer. Maybe the last load sign ought to be bigger than 12 pt font. (To be clear- the employee did use a normal tone. It was not the tone that upset me. I said "yelled over" simply because she was far away, not to imply her tone was nasty- it was not). read more

Good: The laundry facility offers numerous washers and dryers for use when they are all in working condition. The owner is typically proactive in addressing any issues, promptly arranging for repairs or maintenance when a machine is not functioning. Closed to dining areas if you're doing laundry all day. Plenty of large capacity machines for giant loads. I normally just pay for drying when using the large capacity drier to avoid waiting. Otherwise free drying is included with paid washes. Vending machines for supplies and snacks are available and usually clean facility--unless they're busy and they have customers that are too entitled to clean up/pick up after themselves. Bad: However, it can be inconvenient to seek assistance with electronic payments via touchless methods such as Apple or Google Pay. This is because it may require interrupting an employee who is loading laundry, causing a brief delay of 30 seconds or less. The machines only accept swipe cards or large quantities of coins, which can be cumbersome. If the coin machine is not functioning, an alternative payment method through the Point of Sale machine is required, potentially causing further inconvenience. When the owner is present, he is generally helpful, but on one occasion, an employee suggested that I "'need coins or card to start the machine." "So I can't pay with you here?" "'It would be more convenient for everyone if I could start the machine on your own, right?'" "Thank you." "'Yes ma'am.'"--as I had not brought my wallet or card. Although the employee is typically polite, her demeanor on this particular occasion was somewhat off-putting. I have been using this laundry facility since before the previous owners sold it, and I have noticed that even when using my card, my bank occasionally flags the transaction as suspicious, requiring me to complete the payment through the POS machine anyway--baffled. I'm glad to have found $10 to exchange for coins to pay for a large dryer since all the free dryers were taken. I was stressing to ask if I could pay for the dryer. I just didn't have $26 in coins to pay for the washers. **added**Also to be told by this employee that Lava Laundry has never had touch-less pay on the washers is not accurate--she has helped me before when the swipe and touch-less pay wasn't working. It was convenient when that was available in your machines and I've been a customer since before that was removed as well. I don't choose to be here, but when you're child has cancer you lose days of laundry time but at the same time it's a moment of distance from said situation even if it's 4-5 loads of laundry to catch up. read more

I really enjoyed doing my laundry here! I can't believe I am writing the sentence about enjoying laundry, but the overall atmosphere was quite pleasant. There are enough machines that you don't have to wait, even on a Saturday morning. The machines are reasonably priced, especially with free drying. The staff member noticed that I had a bunch of coins exchange from a $20 bill and kindly offered me a small coin wallet. I gratefully accepted. THIS IS AN UPDATED REVIEW FROM MY PREVIOUS REVIEW My last visit to this Lava Laundry was drastically different than my first visit. The woman working at this Lava Laundry was different and was unnecessarily rude to me and my husband. I'll elaborate below. Prior to walking into this establishment, my husband and I saw a homeless woman chillin' outside of this establishment for quite some time. She eventually came into the establishment and was talking the staff member's ear off and asking for free laundry detergent, fabric softener, and dryer sheets (which you normally have to pay for if you don't bring your own). I'm NOT against helping out others when they are down, but, I do realize the situation she was in may have been annoying/frustrating. I DO NOT think it's right to take it out your frustrations on paying customers who are minding their own business washing their comforters. As previously stated, the staff member was quite rude to us. On numerous occasions, the female staff worker walked extremely closely in front of me without saying excuse me or anything. Luckily she didn't trip over my feet, but I wouldn't have felt sorry if she did. Well before store closing hours, she put away all carts to help remaining customers move their clean laundry either to the dryers or to their cars. Again, before the establishment even closed, she wanted close in front of me again (she did this about 4-5 times) and told me that I needed to hurry up with my drying of clothes because she planned on closing the store soon (BEFORE THE STORE WAS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE). Since I had no control over the drying speed of their dryers, I told her how long I had left on the dryer, but she just walked away. When our last comforter was finally dry, again BEFORE CLOSING TIME, we carried our comforters to our car (without the aid of the carts since the staff member put them all away already). While we were loading our car, we saw that the female staff member turned off all of the lights and locked the door before closing hours. Overall, I'm not a fan of the unprofessionalism and rudeness of the last staff member my husband and I, unfortunately, interacted with. We did nothing to deserve the treatment that we received. It is a shame since our previous experience here (with a different, friendlier staff member) was much better. However, with the unnecessary rudeness and the determination to get out of work prior to store closing hours from the last person working here, my husband and I decided to no longer wash our larger comforters here. 1 out of 5 stars. read more

Came here for the first time in a long time today because my apartment laundry is overpriced and has nowhere to fold. I used to come here in the past and I'm glad it was reliable and the same as 4 years ago! Still has seating, good AC, fair priced washing (drying is free), great staff, and space to fold clothing. Absolutely ridiculous situation. I wish I could give it a one star. My sister is handicapped, and has to use a top dryer because of her back. We were told we were not allowed to use the top dryers as we didn't wash our clothes her. The cleaning attendant was one of the rudest people I've ever met and said you are only allowed to use that dryer over there. My dryer went out and I had to go to UC davis today for a cancer check up on my dog, otherwise I would NEVER had to have gone here. The times I've used a laundry mat before, I always test a dryer to make sure it works as I've seen them not work and the person not get a refund. So the attendant yet again walks over and harass's me saying I need to pay $2.50. I explain to her am I not allowed to check to make sure the only dryer I'm able to use works, and she said NO. So I say it better work. I honestly don't know how many quarters I put in there to see if it would work. But when it finally started, I put another one in so it would last over the 30 minutes. The light doesn't light up so I honestly don't even know if it is for a full 30 minutes. She told me all I would get is my 30 minutes. I find this pretty shady. If I hadn't already put my money in, I would have left. So now I'm waiting in the parking lot for it to be exactly 30 minutes to go get my clothes. I happened into Lava Laundry by chance as the laundromat closest to my house had water billowing out the front door one day and was non-operational. Upon entering Lava Laundry I was greeted with the alternative music of my adolescence and the warmth of their dryers was matched by the employee that helped me that day, Julie (shout out to Julie, the second best part about the laundromat). It is true that the music they play here is unconventional compared to the elevator jams being overheard in your local grocery store, but to be honest that is one of the reasons I drive out of my way to bring my clothes here! If I'm going to be stuck in a building for an hour waiting for my clothes to be done, I'd rather be where I can listen to some good rock music, feel welcomed by their laid back and professional staff and it's free to dry! 10/10 I will be back again. read more

I have been coming here on and off for about 2 years. When my apartment didn't have a great laundry machine, I dreaded having to go out to a laundromat. It actually is cheaper to come here and do laundry than to do it at my apartments. The free dry really makes it worth while because if my clothes happen to be still a bit damp. I can just restart to machine and get them dry. At my apartment complexes in the past, that meant paying for yet another cycle. The atmosphere here is also super relaxed and friendly. The staff are there if you need them, but for the most part, I come in start my wash, sit down and watch a show or do work and then switch my laundry to the dryers. I'm in and out in about an hour. Super easy. They even offer a free transfer service if you don't want to wait around they will transfer your clothes to the dryer for you. I've never done it because most of my clothes need to be line dried, but super awesome amenity. Speaking of amenities, they offer free WiFi and air conditioning which in the the davis summer heat amazing! Also there are plenty of seats or couches around in which to wait in. I came in to start several loads of laundry when the store opened at 7:00am, intending to use the transfer service as advertised. The front doors were open and the lights were on but the store was completely deserted. By 7:15am I had my washers loaded, but when I attempted to pay the card readers on both machines declined when I attempted to pay by tap and didn't respond to swiping at all. I waited by the deserted front desk until an automated overhead announcement indicated that an attendant would be arriving to the store shortly and giving a phone number to call for questions. I ended up taking all my laundry back out and running it myself at my apartment laundry, where my card ran with no problems. With no one to help with the faulty card reader, and no one available to actually arrange the transfer service I needed, I wouldn't consider this laundromat as actually open for business at 7:00am as they advertise. read more

I normally do my own laundry, but my wife was out of town & the dogs were a handful, so things started to pile up. I decided to outsource my chores & drop off my laundry at this place. I am so thankful that I did! I dropped off several loads (I think 3 or 4?) to be washed, dried, and folded. The folding was an additional charge of $5 & I was charged overall by the weight of the laundry. I don't remember the exact total, but I know it was around $32 for everything. I requested to pick up my finished laundry the next morning around 10. The woman who helped me said that it was no problem & didn't even charge me extra for wanting to rush the order. The next day I arrived to pick up my laundry. There was a giant bag full of my clothes, which had all been expertly folded & smelled delicious. I was beyond impressed with the service & the result. I was amazed at how affordable it was for me to have all of my laundry cleaned. The results were fantastic--all I had to do was pop everything into my wardrobe when I got home! If you're pressed for time or feeling overwhelmed, The Laundry Lounge offers an affordable service that can help ease your workload. I believe they also offer local pick-up & drop-off if you are unable to bring your laundry yourself. I'm not sure what their pricing is for this service. read more

Used to feel comfortable coming to this laundromat but NOT anymore. There is a lady working there (or maybe a manager/owner) that is extremely rude and unprofessional when communicating with us. One time we paid $12 each for the largest washers for comforters and then were scolded when we tried to use the largest/matching dryer right next to it. All other dryers were completely full at the time and these dryers were empty. We came back again and she yelled over at us that "those dryers" now must be paid for even though drying is supposed to be free here. We have now witnessed her scolding and yelling at other people as well about similar unclear rules. Will not be recommending this laundromat anymore. read more

My apartment complex has a laundromat, however, the machines their are older and slow so I decided to pop in here to try this place out instead. Needless to say, I loved it! The place was clean, the machines were clean and in working order and the prices were decent. The machine I used cost $4 and it fit a double load. The giant dryers are free as long as you pay to wash. They also have free Wifi and multiple plugs available to use while you wait. Vacationing in Dixon. This was the closest laundromat to the hotel. Less than a mile from the Best Western Plus. I don't know if it was expensive or not, since we usually wash in our home. The place seemed clean. The washers/dryers worked fine. The only problrm was the soda/snack machine. I used my debit card, and the machine showed a credit of $1.75; however, when pushing the buttons for soda and/or snacks the machine never worked. Since the machine still showed a credit of $1.75, my wife knocked on the attrndants door, and there was no answer. I had to use a laundrymat to wash my blanket, since my apartment's washing machines are too small. I come in and do my wash, and was doubled charged 2 washes for my 1 wash. No problem, they got a bunch of cameras I can easily go in and get this sorted out. Go in, I text them a picture of the double charge from my credit card, they say they'll call me after calling the credit card processing company. Fine by me. Two weeks pass, no call. So I go in on a sunday and they say it's sunday, you know they aren't open on sundays. "We will call you on Tuesday once we talk to them." I leave irritated, but leave like a gentleman. Two weeks later, I go in again, because, you guessed it, no call! I'm told that I will get a call when she calls. What? Can you just check the cameras, give me my money, and let me live my life without this dragging behind me? I leave again, this time, sad as I feel like I do not have the inner workings of someone who can get stuff done. I text the number I sent the picture to, and got no response. My girlfriend and I argue because she says im always waiting on my phone. For who, she ask. I tell her you dont want to know. It has been over a month. So I had to dispute it with the credit card company, which was easy and painfree because they understand the implications of justice. Double check your statements. The cost to wash here is more expensive than other places i've been, and then they can double up if you're not careful. They won't help if anything is wrong. Wow, pleasantly surprised, what a great laundromat compared to the expensive and badly run little laundromats I've used in big cities over my lifetime. This one is large, clean, plenty of machines, well-maintained, staffed. Tables, chairs, vending machines, coffee, folding tables, and FREE drying! Since it was too big for our washer, we brought it over on a Sunday morning. This is where laundry gets done in Davis. Forget doing laundry at your apartment complex, where you may to have wait awhile to have an empty washer. And then what if you have 5 loads to do?! Just skip that whole process and go to The Laundry Lounge! I do a lot less lounging than I do laundering here, but they do have comfy couches and wi-fi if you're into that sort of thing. I prefer taking them up on their "transfer service" offer, where you start all your loads of laundry and they transfer them to the dryer for you. Then you just come back when your clothes are all dry (and in the meantime, you've grocery shopped or cleaned your house)...and wa-laaa! It's magical. Plus, they have a cute little system using magnetic Scrabble-like tiles to denote which machines are yours. Overall, the process is fast and easy and convenient, depending on the time you come, of course. Whether we come on the weekend or a weekday, we've usually been able to find open double load washers. You can theoretically fit two baskets-full in one of these front-load washers for just $2.75. There are also triple load washers for $6.50, but I think we've gotten the most bang for our buck with the double load ones. As if it wasn't already good enough, they have a coin machine! They will give you cash back using your card, so you can get quarters. We always take our extra quarters back home with us for those times in-between visits to The Laundry Lounge where we absolutely must do a load at the apartment. Laundry day!!! I think some of the reviews may have hyped this place up, though I still had a good experience overall! I came here on a Sunday afternoon, with a need to do my laundry since I didn't have a laundry card for my apartment complex. Walking in, I was a bit overwhelmed by all of the machines, I was expecting a sign to show what to do. Eventually, I found my way to the counter, which is located in the far back on the left side. The store attendant was very nice and helped me with some single use detergent. For two loads, I ended up only spending $2 in detergents and dryer sheets. I do have to say that the top loader washers cost $2 per wash, which is a bit pricy. The dryers cost 25 cents per 6 minutes. I put my full load in for about 48 minutes and my clothes were still wet. Better pay up for dry clothes! The interior was chill and bright. They played indie music on the PA speakers and they sold a variety of items (tennis balls!!!). The new hours are pretty awesome and I'll most likely be using their services again since it's convient. Overall, it's OK. It's a nicer laundromat than what I'm used to in the bay. It's a bit overpriced, but you don't have many options if you can't use your apartment's laundry room! read more

I've tried two other laundromats in Davis, one in Sacramento, and one in San Jose. This is my laundromat of choice. There are five different sizes of washers to choose from and plenty of machines to use. The machines cost $1.75, $2.50, $2.75, and up. The dryers are $0.25 for every six minutes. You'll have to put in a few more quarters to get your clothes to dry fully, but it's worth it for all of its amenities. The attendant is available until closing time. The place is always clean. There's a sink on the side if you need to hand wash anything or if you just need to wash something. And there's free internet access. Other great amenities include the SaveMart and restaurants in the same plaza if you need more detergent or food. Jamba Juice and Safeway is just down the street. I had to dock it a star for the expensive dryers. read more
