Dr Ian Kim is truly the most compassionate and understanding dr/ man I've ever encountered in the medical field to top that he is very knowledgeable. What he doesn't know he will research until he finds the right answer or solution. When my wife and I met doctor kim, we were living on the streets of davis homeless with no hope of ever getting out of the mess, we got ourselves into. My wife had major depression, and I was killing myself with my diabetes. Truly I was dying. We now have been housed 3 years ,my diabetes is almost non-existing. I am incredibly proud of how far I've come, but saying goodbye to the people who helped me get here is one of the hardest things I've had to do. When I entered this program, I was overwhelmed, frightened, and facing some of the most serious health challenges of my life. I had no idea how much one person could change the course of someone else's journey. Damaris, my Advanced Case Manager, did exactly that. She never stopped believing in me, even on the days I struggled to believe in myself. She advocated for me, coordinated my care, helped me navigate an overwhelming medical system, and made sure my voice was heard when I couldn't find the words. She even came to work at 6:00 a.m. to accompany me to a specialist appointment in San Francisco because she wanted to make sure I wasn't facing it alone. That is not something you forget. What impresses me most isn't just her work ethic--it's her heart. Damaris genuinely cares. She celebrates your victories, carries you through the setbacks, and reminds you that you're more than your diagnosis. She gave me hope during a time when hope felt impossible. I'm leaving this program a stronger person because of the incredible team who cared for me, especially Damaris. She didn't just help coordinate my care--she helped me rebuild my life. Karina ( younger women with glasses in front ) The attitude that comes from the front desk here is ridiculous. I sadly have to come here for regular visits, and I can tell you I always know it's going to be a bad encounter with the women in the front. All of them are very rude but Karina has been rude to me on several occasions. I have complained to the main supervisor already and hope something will change. Many others feel the same way about the worker named Karina in the front. There are many low income families, women of color, and mothers that come from many different stressful situations. The last thing anyone needs when they come here is attitude/ someone to make you feel uncomfortable, and stupid. The staff needs to be better trained because y'all have many vulnerable people already entering your doors. There should be no need for making anyone feel any less. Call in today 4:00 p.m regarding my 11months old. He got a slight fever 2 days ago. Yesterday he completely stop eating, he didn't want to drink his milk or his juice. Until late at night when he constantly drinking his milk. Then this mrn he stop eating again. The receptionist told me that they are done for the day when they still have 40mins left. I also ask if the doctor can just do a phone call appt. Again she told me that they are done for the day. Told me I have 2 choice either bring him into ER or urgent care or I can wait until monday and bring him in for a walk-in appt. But not guaranteed me to get in. The lady at the front who works in the very middle desk (glasses/ nose piercing) is not professional and does not explain well. If there is a new system, begin with that and then go on to ask the needed questions. Needs to be trained in proper customer service. She was all for smiling and giggling when speaking to her coworkers while in the middle of helping us, but went blank stare serious when speaking to us. This is a COMMUNITY clinic. When I got to the assigned appointment they make me wait for more than an hour constantly saying someone will be out in a minute. This is unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. MediCal placed me with them (because apparently Yolo only has them as an option). I don't doubt staffers are overworked and I can't blame them for the overall nightmare that is the US healthcare system. However, I have had chronic symptoms for the last 2 years (pre-covid) which involves migraines, chills and overheating, shortness of breath, and nausea to state a few symptoms. These symptoms knock me out, make my life difficult, and I have tried to get an appointment to figure out what is wrong. My medical history shows two chronic illnesses that could lead to further complications such as these symptoms. Overall they give off the impression to not listen and not care. Before COVID it was "we don't have any appointments available", "call us back Monday", "Maybe it is temporary", "We have to see if the doctor is fine with someone else coming in the office (requesting assistance from a relative because they are not taking my symptoms seriously)". Now, with COVID going on a rampage, it's "oh, you seem to have covid symptoms (except these symptoms have been chronic before COVID) so we have to delay your appointment" or "we don't have appointments available". I am sick and exhausted, and I don't enjoy arguments or confrontations. If I could switch insurances I would, but I can't make more income because these damn symptoms prevent me from functioning normally. My relatives are pissed. And I think it is insane that I am thinking I will just wait for my condition to get worse and turn to an emergency (it has happened in the past before) to then have a specialist in the ER tell me "This is serious. Why didn't you get assistance earlier?". Or potentially just croak, since there is after all a deadly virus and I already have health concerns that have not been addressed for 2 years. I've been using the clinic for years, ever since it was located in a tiny corner in the Davis Co-op building. I have always received the best of care, including the dental clinic. Also, the Co-op was among the first in town to offer the Covid vaccine. When I called to make the appointment for the vaccine, I got one right away, and upon arrival, I did not have to wait in a line, because they were so well organized. read more

I have been here a couple times within the past years only reason J come back is because it is convenient and quick for me to get to. Everytime I have a terrible experience with the womxn at the front desk. They are extremely rude over the phone and treat you like you're bothering them when you are simply trying to set an appointment. I had an appointment today at 1:30 and sat for over 40 minutes while no-one communicated with me, explained the wait, or anything. Terrible customer service. Womxn huddling around a computer glaring at me and being snarky when I simply just needed a service done. Im not the kind of person to ever leave negative reviews but honestly as a Black woman, I was made EXTREMELY uncomfortable. The only reason this place even gets a star is because they do a decent job when it comes to my daughters appointment. This review is mainly for whoever does the scheduling for the prenatal department, and the lady who's in charge of the front desk. I called in last week Tuesday for a new patient appointment for the Prenatal Department and I was told to come in at 10am Monday 10/10. Friday 10/07 I get a call that I needed to be here at 8am on Monday. Monday is here and I arrive at 7:50am only to find out that the prenatal department doesn't even come in until 12pm. You could imagine I was a little annoyed, but that's not what really pissed me off. The lady at the front desk, Maricela, tells me to fill the appropriate papers out, and then to stand back in line when I'm done. I did just that, and when I go to turn the papers in I tell her I can come back at 12pm to finish filling any other paperwork out but instead she tells me that I needed to wait until she "see's someone" walk in from the prenatal department. I assumed that she didn't actually mean for me to wait until 12pm, so I waited thinking they would be in shortly. I sat there for an hour as my file sat on the counter next to her while other patients were being helped. When the long line of patients were all helped I thought ok maybe now she'll help me, no. She walks to the back and starts to have some kind of meeting. At this point I've had enough so I walk up and tell another girl that I would like my insurance card back because I need to leave she tells me to hold on, goes to the back and here comes Maricela walking back with her to tell me that I should come back at 12pm. If I hadn't had to rush outta there I would've cussed her ass out. I cannot understand how this place gets any funding with such poor service for its patients. They obviously have a problem with their scheduling system, and communication between their health departments which needs to be taken care of in order for them to avoid such bullshit mistakes like today. read more

I agree with the other Yelpers; this clinic is a disgrace. The staff is dry, rude, and unprofessional. I had to take my niece there, NEVER AGAIN! One thing I find extremely unsettling is to work there you "must" speak Spanish, and all of their employees aside from the doctors (and others in charge) are Hispanic. What happened to diversity? I am bilingual, but I am not fluent in Spanish. For one of my classes, we did a social experiment where we went and applied for jobs or internships, and we documented the process. I chose the Davis Community Clinic because I wanted to know how they go about hiring and who does the hiring since I had a poor experience when I took my niece there. Requiring someone speak Spanish to gain employment at any establishment in the United States is bias. Spanish is not the official language of the United States, and if we are going to make any language besides English an official language, it should those of Indigenous Nations. Another thing that is offputting is the staff. While I do not speak Spanish fluently, I do understand quite a bit (more so the dialect from Spain) and I observed how staff members talk to some of the clients in a condescending manner. I have been a patient here for almost two years. I had the most amazing midwife, Vicki Aphailee, while I was pregnant. She deserves 5 Stars!!! She was so nice, respectful, patient, professional, and knew what she was doing! She made me feel like I was a priority to her and I was so glad when my water broke on the day she would be the midwife at the hospital to deliver my baby. I've had the experience of having a doctor deliver my first born 4 years ago and it was completely different from this experience 7 months ago. I would give them an overall 5 stars but trying to get an appointment scheduled is impossible. I have been on hold plenty of times for more than 15 minutes and many times when my call has been dropped and I must call again. I was assured this issue is being handled and this past week I called and got through without being put on hold!!! read more

I thought I'd leave a review for this place since there hadn't been one in awhile. The majority of the reviews here are obviously negative- and it seems like the majority are coming from people who have access to better healthcare options, me personally,I'm someone who's only option is this clinic. Likewise, I think the sentiment that this place is "only for Latinos" is racist. Just because the majority of people working here are Latino, Chicano ,or Hispanic, does not mean they have a racial bias. I think the people who have this idea are probably Caucasian people who don't realize that the majority of poor people in this area are Chicano and Latino, and that also a lot of these same people have family who do or aspire to work in the medical field. It's like how a lot of Filipino people are nurses. That being said, the quality of service I have received here has never been short of amazing. I realize that the women working at the front desk have a difficult job since they have so many patients they have to schedule appointments for, and as someone who works with the public, I know it's easier and less taxing to be more cut and dry than overly patronizing or nice. I've also noticed it's usually the same 4 women or so working there, every single time I've been there. They put in hours! The last couple times I've been in one of them have been training someone new, but because I am aware there's only so many of them I am patient when it takes her a little longer than the other ladies. I'm just glad they're getting more help. The doctors here can often be late to your appointment and that's because they really take their time to address every need of every patient which is something I'm grateful for. Dr snodgrass is a great example of this. When I got put under her care any fear that I wouldn't receive the healthcare I needed was completely alleviated. She calls me to schedule more appointments so we have time to address all my health concerns and I miss them, I'm a bad patient ! Susann Russ, who does behavioral health, is also the bees knees. I can't imagine what her job is like, given that she works not only with the public, but the mentally ill public. Despite that, I don't feel like I'm going to be treated as a write off with her, and she does devote her full attention to me during our appointments. She also has the ability to lighten the mood when we might be talking about something grave or depressing. She has a smile that gives me hope. If you're in need of care and this is your only option because of medical, don't pass this place up. read more

I went in for a shot just the other day and while I waited more than expected, it was completely worth it! Joey and Marci attended to me, but I mostly spoke with Joey and she was completely amazing (and funny). I felt absolutely comfortable with her--so comfortable that she was the first person I told about all the problems I have and have had throughout the past years! I went in for a simple shot but was there for about 2-3 hours because we were talking about how to fix my issues and everything else. I completely recommended this place. WORST MEDICAL FACILITY I'VE EVER BEEN TO 4-6 weeks to get an appointment. Making an apt over the phone takes ATLEAST 20 min. They always put you on hold for 10+ min Make sure to get there 15-20 min before your apt time, because you end up standing in line for at least 15 min They NEVER get back to you when they say they will. Agree with previous Yelper "only good for Latino patients" They only schedule 2 weeks out, and schedule fills up extremely quick. Tell you to call back in 2 weeks, only to have the schedule filled up again. They will tell you to come in during 'drop in apt times' if you NEED to be seen. I went and sat there for 2 hours, and was only talked to by a nurse. JOHN THE PA- Told me 'we do not believe in adult ADHD & will not prescribe medication for it. If I could give it no stars, I would. Starting off with the ladies at the front desk, they provide the worst service. They had me waiting 20 mins on my phone.... So, I decided to try calling through my brother's phone while still being on hold on my cell. Long story short, when I called through my brother's phone the lady that put me on hold took the call through my brother's phone!!! I complained and told her that I was actually on hold through another line for 20 mins and now that I tried calling through another phone, she was now taking the call. This one example of how bad and frustrating it is to try to get attention at this place. The ladies that at the front desks are not efficient. To get seen for your appts. the longest I have had to wait to get seen is an 1hour and 30mins., I ask several times to ladies at the front desk to see what is going on and they are always running behind with patients... In the end I miss my appt. because I have to be at another place. So if you plan on getting seen here, make sure to be ready to spend the whole day at the clinic waiting. I had to go in today to pick up a document and though I do not have to go in often, I always have a great experience. The receptionist at the front desk today (Isabelle) was extremely helpful, kind and informative. Despite being busy with phone calls and other patients, she really took the time to help me with what I needed to get done there. She was amazing! Erica is also another receptionist who is very nice and helpful. My primary care provider Lorraine is always very nice as well and really takes the time to answer questions and go over everything in detail. She's really thorough with her work. I've met two of the medical assistance as well and my experiences with both were great. Overall, I really feel like the clinic works very hard to serve their patients and give them the necessary treatment. Came here for prenatal care. The midwives were wonderful, were willing to listen to my concerns & help me make decisions I was comfortable with. The staff is very caring. After giving birth at Sutter the communicare pediatricians that saw my baby were also great! The lactation consultant there was very helpful as well. Then there is the bad: the front desk. They are generally rude, ignore you as you stand waiting for help, and quite frankly just plain incompetent. I have private insurance & every time I come in they tell me my insurance is inactive & try to get me to apply for medi-cal. They assume everyone who walks in the door has Medi-Cal. A couple times I had to argue with them to convince them that I actually do have insurance, because they kept insisting I just apply for a fee waiver or Medi-Cal. I tried to explain that I don't qualify for Medi-cal, but to no avail. I think I filled out that paperwork about 3 times, to have them tell me I don't qualify. Really? I'd have to stand at the desk (very pregnant!) waiting each time as they'd call to verify my insurance, waiting until they rudely tell me without looking up "you can have seat". It was very frustrating to say the least. Trying to get through on the phone was also very difficult, if not impossible some days. I was left on hold for over 20 mins once, then disconnected. I also had to wait long periods to be seen, even when arriving a few mins early. I realized that each time I'd just have to wait at least 30 mins on avg. to be seen whether I was early or running late. I would not have continued here at all if my insurance covered Sutter Dr.s, but I think if you need affordable care this is a good place to get it. read more

Unless someone cancels or doesn't show up, you will not be seen. I had an appt at 11am. Didn't get seen till 12pm. No one even came to tell me they were running behind or anything. I had to go wait jn line and ask and when I asked, the receptionist gave me an attitude and said there were already 2 people ahead of me. Then why tf did you guys book this appointment if you guys couldn't handle 3 people at once?????? When the MA came and got me she had a look on her face. It could just be her face though. When the midqife saw me and because i cancelled the papsmear she said 5o juat talk about the baby. I asked for the lab results and she said, "oh yeah, we can talk about that." She went down th3 list really fast and then excited said lets play with the baby and liaten to the heartbeat. In the midst of that, which was like less than one minute and surprised me by saying, "oh no i had a patient in the other room that couldnt hear the heartbeat. I have to go back to her! " And then quickly swooped me out of the way as if i didn't matter. She said she'll see me next time. I told her i had some questions and concerns which I asked and she answered quickly. I came in not knowing anything about this place. I was hoping to see a doctor for the appointment I had, instead I was assigned to a PA who seemed rushed and didn't really care about what my thoughts were, how i felt, or what i said. I said that i was feeling pain in my chest and the PA told me i had a heart murmur. Okay, so I was already freaked out. Then she tells me that the next thing she had to do was set up another appointment to get a blood test. The next appointment was set for two weeks later. I couldnt believe it. Any other clinic in any other town would have taken and tested my blood immediately. I know I shouldnt have worried, but I had uncomfortable pain in my chest and perhaps it could have worsened in two weeks! They way the PA handled the situation was so confusing and complicated. It was so impersonal and rude. I understand that these professionals need to see all the patients, but I wouldn't have minded waiting another hour or so to have someone really care about how I am feeling. If you really want to be cared for, don't go here. You'd have better luck being cared for in the ER. read more
