I have been bringing my VW here for a few years now. I love the honesty I've received from the mechanic. The dealer kept pushing an expensive service on me and I decide to get a second opinion. I bring my car here for routine oil changes. I've had one repair after the engine light came on and no issues since. I recently needed my mom's Ford repaired as well. I called and informed Megan what was going on. She called me back in under an hour with the estimate for an alternator. I had the vehicle towed to the shop that Wednesday. I was given a heads up the vehicle would not be done until Friday or Monday. Which I appreciated, I was ok with it. We didn't need the car those days. On Friday I was informed they found an oil leak and what caused the alternator to fail. The price was reasonable for the repairs. I know on that specific vehicle, the alternator was going to be work to get to. The vehicle has been driving great since. No issues. I get a very honest vibe every time from them. This place is horrible and I'm hoping my review stops someone from going here and receiving the same terrible service that we received . We originally took our BMW for a coolant light. The first day we took it they didn't even call to tell us what they found out after having our car there the entire day. We finally called about an hour before closing just for them to tell us they need to order part and that it's too late to order it that day so we took the car back the following week after the part was ordered. They still didn't fix the problem and charged us for what they called a Band-Aid fix. They didn't even call us ahead of time to tell us it was going to be a Band-Aid fix. once again we had to call to see where our car was at to even find that out. We had to make a third appointment for what they're calling a permanent fix which I doubt is even true. Before returning for the third appointment, our car started smoking and overheating which had never happened before. we called them again before the appointment to let them know and they said we would have to tow the car there and take zero responsibility to even meet us halfway with the towing cost. At the end of the day we paid them over $600 without receiving a permanent fix to the coolant problem. This mechanic clearly is not experienced with BMWs. and is dishonest. if you have a BMW that needs to be fixed I would suggest that you find a different mechanic that actually knows how to work on a BMW. read more

I brought in my car due to an oil leak. They identified the problem then sent me home with the car for a week while they waited in parts to come in. I brought the car back in a week later (on a Tuesday). They estimated it would be done by Thursday. Original estimate was $1300. They called me the next day saying they found additional issues with the car and that it would now be $2300. These issues were reasonable, so I let them go ahead with the fixes. Their new time estimate was Friday. Friday comes and I haven't heard anything. I call the shop and they say that they're still waiting on a part and it would be ready Monday morning, but that they'd call Monday morning when it's done. That's fine, not their fault. Monday comes around and I haven't heard anything. I call and they say that the part just got in and that they'll finish it up that night so I can pick it up Tuesday morning, but that once again, they'd call me. Tuesday morning rolls around and I haven't heard anything. I call them Tuesday afternoon and they say that they got delayed and that their technician will stay late to work on it. They told me to meet them at the shop at 6 which is when it will be ready, and if it won't be ready by then, they'd call me to let me know. I show up at 6, and the car is not ready yet. They said they have to refill the oil and coolant then it'd be ready to go (only a couple of minutes). I sat in the parking lot for 45 minutes waiting on the car. I appreciate staying late to finish it up, but the lack of care and respect they put on my time left a bad taste in my mouth. If they would've called and told me to pick it up later or even the next day, I'd have no problem. Overall, they were friendly and the work was done well, but I will not be coming back. read more

I have taken three cars here already! First car had engine issues that I tried to fix myself and ended up being in way over my head. They are super thorough when you go check your car in and Tisha and Megan are incredible and so nice! (also there are dogs so YAY) They even called to let us know some other problems that they were able to help us out with. Second car wasn't starting and they found the problem and got it done super quickly. Third car didn't have a working radio and there was some miscommunication but they were incredibly helpful when I had a million questions and did amazing getting my car back to me when I needed it. I brought my 2004 BMW 325i in with 180k miles. It still runs great but is definitely nearing end of life. I'm trying to do my best to keep it out of the landfill and trying to keep it economical. I'm decent with a wrench but don't have enough time under the hood to really know how to identify issues. I brought it in for a confusing O2 sensor related check engine light and Rafael ran some tests and recommended a few things to fix before going any further. Raphel recommended I replace my PCV valve and all the associated plastic/rubber hoses. I ordered the parts, spend the better part of the weekend tearing it down and voila - no more error codes. This mechanic shop is as good as it gets. Bob (I believe he is the owner) has on many occasions been more than wiling to spend 15-30 minutes explaining, checking, and diagnosing (for example, calling for parts availability) my car for me. Even more amazing, three times now I have brought in my car, had him check something out, and when I return and ask him how much I owe him, he says, "no charge, the part wasn't that expensive." Wow! Even after I insist, he won't write up a receipt so I finally end up giving him whatever cash I have in my pocket. I know he does this with other people, so please do not take advantage of him and bring some cash when you see him. Bob and his mechanics are also extremely knowledgeable. He has on several occasions explained things or knows techniques that other mechanics have said were very expensive or impossible. Two examples are changing lights in the dash (VW dealer said it would require removing the entire dashboard and cost 100's of dollars, Bob did it for $25 without removing the dash), and fixing my oil drainplug hole that either JiffyLube or Spee-Dee stripped out (VW dealer said $400 for a new oilpan or an unreliable insert that fails 70% of the time, Bob fixed it for $68 with a different reliable insert). The inspection fee is comparably low. They ordered parts from Mercedes, and fixed the car quickly, but the cost of fixing is much cheaper than the dealership. When there was a problem they can't fix(e.g., sunroof), they also offered referrals. I trust them and I would bring my other car here. read more

I am so grateful to all at Davis import and domestic auto service. My husband and were traveling with grandkids up north , starting at 4 AM, when our volvo experienced tremendous car trouble. This occurred at 630 AM. I've been to other repair shops here in Davis. This particular location has great employees with enthusiasm and good customer service. Right next to the Davis police station, across UVD apartments. Super close to the A and Z lines for Unitrans, so I was able to get back to campus right away without my moving castle (my car of course). They even offer you a ride (with your own car if it works, I guess) to wherever you need to go while they do repairs that take forever. 5 stars for customer service! Where my other star deductions comes from: But....all the services provided are just alright. I finished fixing up the car headlamps, the wipers, and they yes, "fixed" the brakes. I absolutely had no problem with the replacement and the fees associated with them, as these headlamp and windshield wipers were needed (around $60-ish). However, my biggest problem was the brakes as they were making funny noises. I took my car to see if they can diagnose anything, and I was charged over $50 for just diagnosis--my car was returned without doing any fixes or adjustments on the brakes. I was told that there was nothing wrong with them, so why was I charged so much for a check? It was on the brighter side that they couldn't find anything wrong with them. But to charge so much for a check, I don't know if I can call this good business. I went to another location out of town for the same problem, where they charged me far less, and fixed the causative agent of the weird grinding noise from those brakes. So in short. I spent over $100...to replace my windshield wipers, my headlamps....and the brakes. So, 1 star for customer satisfaction. :( Average=3.0 stars. I really liked the employees but what makes a business complete also means fair charges for what was done. I was also quite bummed out, as the yelp reviews were really, really good. I WANT to give folks high marks but I have to say I was happy overall but could have had a slightly better marks GOOD SIDE: I had routine maintenance performed and all was done correctly (or so I assume). BAD SIDE:The final charge however on what already was a pricey bill was MORE than what was initially quoted. Bob charged me more than what the bill was originally quoted or told to me by Jared (?sp) I didn't put up a stink but it was probably an additional 14% to the already large bill... OTHER SIDE: Additional stinky thing: THEY USE YOUR PHONE # try and add you to automatic lists for getting "reapir updates" (and who knows what else)... I DON'T want to be on any freakin' auto repair list or gettting text messages from NAPA or any other auto repair entity... PLUS I think its disingenuine to not disclose that they do this when they take your information at the onset. If I want to OPT IN after disclosure while you are getting my information fine, but don't add me to some texting service without my knowledge... I used my Groupon voucher 2 months ago and had a poor experience. I had scheduled both my boyfriend's and my appointments a week beforehand for 12PM. When we showed up, the guy at the front desk was really unhappy about having an appointment during lunch time and even told us. That was a HUGE turn off.. Why should a customer EVER receive a complaint about him/herself from the employee? It wasn't even our faults.. After servicing our cars, the same guy told me he couldn't find my spare tire. I have no idea what he was talking about, given that a drive a freaking CRV and the spare tire is stuck onto the trunk on the outside of the car. We also had a question for him, but he replied in a way that made us look stupid and implied that we should know everything there is to know about cars. He's the one who's the "professional," not us. I was looking forward to going because of the reaaally good reviews but was surprised by the service I got. Definitely not coming back here. read more

Last weekend, my car started making funny noises. This shop is the only one open on Saturdays in Davis so I called first thing in the morning. Bob answered and said he was probably too busy to fix it that day (most mechanics might take your car anyways and make you wait until the end of the day or even Monday) but that I could drop by so he could take a quick look. Despite his busy schedule, Bob came out right away car and identified the problem almost immediately. He also told me it wasn't too serious and I could drive it safely to get it fixed back home. I really appreciate him taking the time to assess my car and for giving me good honest advice at no charge. 5 stars for customer service, honesty, knowledge of the field, convenience (open on Saturdays). Honestly this is the worst repair service I've ever had. I took in my mini for misfire, stalling, and a rough idle. The first time they cleaned it for carbon buildup and changed the spark plugs. 2 days later it was doing the exact same thing. I obviously took it back since it did nothing to fix the problem. They didn't charge me for labor the second time and only parts. Turns out there was a cracked boot. The idle is less rough but it is still having the same issue. How could they not notice a cracked part the first time in the shop? The problem is still ongoing. They obviously did not check all the possible solutions to the problem. I will not be returning here. After spending $1,000 and multiple trips to the shop. The customer service was nice. The owner and Jared were really nice and explained things to me. They also called me every step of the way and my car was returned on time. However, the problem remains. I spent a lot of money to have my car looked at and not get a solution. it's frustrating to have wasted my time and money! I would have rather they told me they could not fix the problem. My favorite auto shop that I have ever worked with. When we were in grad school in Davis I came here for a car inspection before heading out on a long road trip; he gave me a lot of tips for the future but overall it was free of charge. We then brought the boyfriend's car in for a few things, and we always felt like we could trust the diagnosis and that the price was fair. Most recently we were driving up from LA for a wedding, and started to hear a rattling noise that had us pulled over on the side of a very windy 5, and he was able to get us in the next morning for a consultation. It turned out to be a loose wheel well, which he fixed and we made it home no issues. This, too, was free of charge (but the boyfriend got some cash and dropped it by later) and very fast and it makes me wish we still lived in Davis so we could bring our cars here all the time. Trustworthy, kind, compassionate, and good price point. Definitely recommend. read more
