Very friendly. I was able to bring my car in right away. The shop is right off the freeway close to Sacramento with an and Dixon.

But I got a reasonable quote and the longest warranty that I was able to get quoted from anywhere else, including the dealer. They were very communicative, very informative and they made the experience a very un stressful situation as stressed as I was going into the situation. So far my transmission replacement has been smooth and I plan on coming back for routine maintenance. So they have accumulated another customer in me.

Tom made it personable and made me feel very confident in choosing the right shop for a not so cheap job. I had heard from various people(GM 17-21)who had experienced the same problem with the transmission going out, who had mentioned they had spent less or more and they were not satisfied. Either job not well done with the transmission or it simply just being a GM issue with these particular years that shops can't get right. Well House of Automatic Transmissions nailed it. Bonus: they work on old school cars and it's nice to see them in the shop as they are working on them. If that doesn't tell you experience I don't know what does.

At 150K I got my money's worth, but I was faced with the choice of getting a new transmission (which costs more the the vehicle is currently worth) or junking the car and buying a new vehicle. Unfortunately, can't afford a new car payment right now, and I know my engine is still in great shape as I maintain all my vehicles carefully and on schedule and I can probably (hopefully) get another 100K out of it. Discussed options with Don, and we both felt a used transmission would be the most cost effective option given the vehicle age and history. He found a low mileage used transmission that was in good shape and installed it for me in a matter of a couple days. But what he did on top of that is why I will be a customer for life. I mentioned in passing that I've been having emissions codes pop up, and given that I was still running the original O2 sensors, I'd bought new ones that I was going to install on my own. I asked if he'd be willing to put them in for me when the transmission was out, simply because access would be so much easier at that time, rather than me at home laying on the garage floor with the car on jack stands, trying to wrap my arms around the tranny to get to the top of the unit where the spots on the manifold are. He was willing to do that for me, and in so doing, he actually noticed that my manifold had some cracks where the ports connect to the engine. Don, on his own, took my manifold off, brought it to his house after work, and fixed the cracks with his welder. All on his own time and dime. He reinstalled it for me, along with the O2 sensors, before reinstalling the transmission. Who the heck does things like this anymore, if ever? This is like the kind of care and service people got decades ago. And why this is exceptionally meaningful to me is, I'm soon to be laid off from work in October, and my wife is fighting through a recurrence of thyroid cancer. We've been struggling emotionally. I was so moved by this I literally teared up when I picked it up. It was such a damn sweet gesture. Getting wet eyed just typing this. Just a wonderful man running a great crew who does awesome work.

I brought my car in due to an intermittent gear slipping issue, which I had already traced to a solenoid problem--a very common issue with my Pontiac G6. The symptoms only occurred twice, very briefly. My check engine light came on both times but turned off on its own. I was still able to drive the car on the freeway at full speed with no issues. The problem only showed up during city stop-and-go traffic. I specifically asked if they could just replace the solenoid, and was told no. Instead, I was told I "only had gears 1 and 2" and that I'd need a $4,800 transmission rebuild--which is objectively false, as I literally drove the car 70+ mph on the freeway both before and after leaving the shop. My engine light was off before coming to the shop, turned on once at the shop, then turned back off shortly after leaving. There is no way my car had only gears 1 & 2 I know what that feels like as it happened twice briefly. So to say this to me is insane. Mind you wouldn't have been able to go more than 25 with out the car struggling they must have assumed I don't know a thing about cars. Possibly because I'm a woman and I went alone. They also claimed the solenoid was too difficult to access without replacing the computer and warned me about my car's mileage, as if that meant it wasn't worth fixing. But then, on my way out, they admitted it's a "really great car" and "this is the only issue." It felt manipulative. I decided to trust my gut, went to a different shop, and had the solenoid replaced--and now my car runs perfectly fine. No rebuild needed. If I hadn't known what I was talking about, they would've gladly let me spend thousands on a completely unnecessary repair. Trust yourself. Do your research. Don't let fear-based upselling push you into something you don't need. Also from reading the reviews it sounds like the routinely tell their customers they need a rebuild and successfully do the rebuild. (more than likely something very easily replaceable) However a good transmission shop doesn't just rebuild, they properly and honestly diagnose and repair. He also tried selling me cars on the way out. Notice how he hasn't replied to this yelp review and also told me he feels bad for me in the text? Very unprofessional I don't need your pitty I needed honesty which I didn't get from this shop. He also told me don't buy a used car you can't guarantee you won't have problems it's best if you fix this one with us. Also told me not to go to another shop because id want a local shop lol

I knew that couldn't be the problem so I took it to Autobahn Davis for a second opinion. Gene was awesome! I honestly didn't think they could find the solution since I was trying for days (unplugged my brake fluid sensors, tried holding up the parking brake pedal, constantly adjusting my turns to see when it would appear). It was driving me crazy, but they managed to find the issue in less than 2 hours! Turns out my aftermarket CarPlay wasn't properly installed to hide the wires lol. The first time I got off his lot, it started beeping again, and Gene took it back the same day and solved it again. The time he took to solve my problem was less than the time it took for the other mechanic to even diagnose my sensors as the issue haha. Good to know nothing was actually wrong with my car. I appreciate Gene for walking me through the process too, he showed me what he discovered behind my head unit, and it was a mess. He taped off all the exposed ends from those wires that the person who installed it for me didn't properly do, and I haven't heard a beep since! I also had one of my headlight bulbs replaced, and Gene also did that pretty quickly, plus it's been working well. This is my first car, so finding a reliable mechanic in Davis was really important to me, and Autobahn Davis definitely met my expectations :)
