This quiet neighborhood park has a nice playground, picnic benches, a sandbox and a field.

The things I like about this park is that it's got enough "danger" to keep the bigger/braver kids happy but enough safety to prevent treachery. Especially for the littles. The park is small and the facilities a bit tired. I heard they are doing renovations soon to bring it back to a more modern state. The small playground is used often and there is a ball field as well.

The park was named for George Corliss who invented the Corliss steam invention in the 1850s. A steam engine factory once stood a few blocks away where Home Depot currently resides. In addition to the 0.3 mile walking path, Corliss Park contains a playground, ball fields, handball court, tennis courts, basketball courts, new outdoor fitness equipment, and a community garden. I have been here a few times walking on the easy wooded path, relaxing in the area. Very shady in the summer time. The RIPTA 50 bus stops one block away from the park near the corner of Douglas Avenue and Corina Street.

The small urban park was designed as a memorial to Robert E. It's located next to the Hotel Providence and across from Grace Church, so it's a nice place to relax when you are shopping on Westminster street. The Park is just a few hundred square feet in size, but it contains a distinctive fountain sculpture with benches and tables spread across it. These features along with the identity that the Robert E. Freeman Park name represents have created opportunities for surrounding business and allowed it to cultivate a great deal of activity. Many events have taken place in the park as well as a central meetup place for many groups.

Potter in memory of her daughter Gladys. The two stone tablets set into the brick and stone columns that frame the entrance to the park, anchoring its wrought-iron gates, provide the basic facts: * "The Gladys Potter Garden/ December 4 1883/ November 16 1891" * "This garden was given by a mother in loving memory of her little girl who loved this spot and who used to walk here with her father when it was a part of an attractive ravine/ MCMXX" I have biked many times around this park and it gets busy with kids during the school year....teachers and child care workers keep an eye on the little ones as they enjoy the playground and the green spaces....the park is well fenced, so it's very secure. Mrs. Potter's gift to establish and maintain the park was substantial: about $15,000 ($250,000 in current dollars) for the land and landscaping costs, plus $10,000 ($160,000 today) provided in her will to endow a fund for the maintenance of the park. Mrs. Potter described this gift in her daughter's memory as the "fulfillment of a long cherished ambition," and expressed the hope that "this parcel of land shall be a place of beauty and satisfaction to the neighborhood and a place where persons interested in such things may stop and rest and enjoy the beauty of the flowers and the cultivated garden which will be established here." In her will, Mrs. Potter left more than $660 thousand (today over $8.4 million) to the Rhode Island Hospital to establish a building in memory of her daughter and husband. The Potter Building is still operating at Rhode Island Hospital; and in a lobby of the hospital's Davol Building is a bronze plaque that commemorates the original gift, and a large oil portrait of little Gladys Potter.

Music and mounds…read more Burr's Hill Park is a seven and a half acre park that sits right across from the town beach. A very pleasant place with nice views of the water but this park also holds a bit of a mystery. The park has baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, and a bandshell where a summer concert series is held. Other events and gatherings are also frequently conducted at the park. It's also right next to the East Bay Bike Path so it's a convenient place to use the bathrooms or get some water while biking by. One of the things that first struck me when viewing the park are the strange mounds that rise up on the perimeter of the park. If you look closely it becomes obvious that these are not natural but created by people a long time ago. These enigmatic mounds are actually the remains of a Revolutionary Fort that was built here centuries ago and long forgotten. No signs or historical plaques are around to mark the site but it's still pretty cool. I couldn't find any signs of recent archaeological activity nor any reference to any digs that have been conducted in the park so who knows what treasures lurk below the surface. Burr's Hill is a nice place that serves many of the recreational and artistic needs of the people of Warren. Interesting to realize that several centuries ago the value and function of the park served a far more martial and less pleasant purpose.
