Tried Dawat recently and it certainly hit the spot. The staff were very friendly and nice, the chairs were comfy. It was very busy when we went but the food came out in a reasonable amount of time! Portion sizes are decent and everything was very mild spice level. Rice was extra which is crazy - but have seen it before. All in all, solid.

After we got seated we waited almost an hour for our food to come one of the appetizer that we ordered was not even served Since we were hungry at this point we just proceeded to eat the main course at this point this is when my husband found a hair on the rice we called the waitress and she didn't apologize but just took the plate and replaced it with an empty plate so we called one of the male waiter and explained that there was a hair on the rice he asked if we wanted another rice of course we said we want the rice replaced but he didn't even offer to replace the lamb that was on the rice with the hair all of us we're examining every dish if there was a hair on it It was a terrible feeling to eat like this. We all ate very little and lost our appetite but the worst is nothing was offered in place of the lamb that was taken away a reputable restaurant will be apologetic and offer some discount or kind of at least replaced the lamb dish . We would never return here again they don't care about their customers. Then we found out they were featured in kitchen nightmare by Gordon Ramsay in Hulu season 2024 . I'm doing this reviews for other customers that didn't know this about this restaurant beware please.

I brought my parents here to try Indian food for the first time, and I was nervous for two reasons…read more- (1) my parents are conservative eaters and I was afraid they wouldn't like it, and (2) I myself had never eaten at this restaurant before. Either way, I was nervous they wouldn't have a good meal. But I held my breath and hoped that the reviews I'd read beforehand were accurate. For the most part, they were. The garlic naan was incredible. My parents went silent when they first tried it, then quietly maneuvered the basket toward themselves while leaving rice for the rest of us. The chana masala and chicken tikka masala were also spot on - rich, saucy, and flavorful. Our salmon tandoori announced its own arrival to our table as big chunks of delicate meat on a sizzling platter. The larger pieces weren't completely cooked through, but we just let them sit on the hot flatware for a minute or two more. Spice babies, beware. We requested 'mild' as the spice level for all our orders because medications have changed my mom's sensitivity to spice. Even then, the heat crept invisibly onto her palate. "I don't know where it's coming from," she said, fanning her mouth. Even as a spice lover, I could detect there a thrum of baseline spice in most of our meals. You might want to temper the spice the way we did - by ordering a mango lassi. I've yet to meet a mango lassi I didn't like, Punjab's included. Here, they include a drizzle of something jammy along the sides of the glass. I didn't think it necessary (the lassi by itself is already fantastic!), but great for those who like their drinks sweet and photogenic. Inside, the restaurant space feels like what I'd call 'upscale casual'. It's nice - in fact, it's a lot nicer than a lot of Indian restaurants I've been in. But it's not the kind of 'nice' that makes you feel like you can't grab a meal here in your sweatpants. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there are a good number of spots along the nearby side streets (just pay attention to street signs that designate no parking days and times).

I see where others have written that even the mild can be too spicy, but we didn't at all find that to be the case. We got garlic naan for the table (great!) and also cheese naan (I didn't like that as much, but my sister loved it). I got the lamb tikka masala and have only good things to say about it. I don't remember ever having lamb so tender. Oh and we got the mango lassi with raspberry sauce, which was unusual and tasty. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

I was so happy to hear that they opened another restaurant in Glen Cove! Plenty of street parking is available, and they even have a shared parking lot in back of the restaurant! I parked in the back, and entered the restaurant via the backdoor! Note that there are stairs at the back entrance, so if you can't do stairs, it's best to park in front of the restaurant. This Glen Cove locations is lovely; beautiful murals and great vibes. I was shocked and sad to see it so empty on a Saturday evening! I hope more people give this place a chance because the food and service is great! This was our Shared Menu (plenty for 2ppl, and we had leftovers): -- Water Buffalo Momos w.Chili Sauce (8pcs/$18): the Momos were tasty; the meat was very lean. I would skip the Chili sauce next time. I didn't like the sweet and sour taste of the sauce, so next time I'd like to try the steamed Momos with Johl sauce instead. -- Choila Roti "Not a Taco" with Jackfruit (2pcs/$12): Not a Taco but similar to a taco. This was delicious and I'd get this again. We choice the Jackfruit version but they also have a chicken version. -- Masala Wings (Sauteed wet version) (4pcs/$11): I remember really liking the wings when I was at the Ridgewood location but couldn't recall which wings we had. On this visit, we had the wet version which was good but I realized that I like their dry version better. -- Grilled Lamb Chops w.Timur Sauce, Veggies & white rice (2pcs/$25): Surprisingly, this was my least fave dish of the night. I normally love lamb chops but these chops didn't really have a nice seared taste to them. The texture was a little off for me. Also, it was very boney with not much meat. I would try another entree next time. All in all, a good meal! I found the large selection of appetizers more interesting than the entrees, and would have been happy just sharing a bunch of appetizers and small plates. Customer service was welcoming and friendly! It was a pleasure to chat with the owner. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

The pickled onions are sooo good, and I love their steamed vegetables. They also serve pea soup, though I personally don't really eat the soup. Three must-tries: 1. Chicken tikka masala 2. Vegetable samosa 3. Garlic naan Mango lassi is refreshing! I've eaten there multiple times and the service is great. Waiters are attentive and professional. It honestly felt like the chef or recipe may have changed because the butter chicken tasted completely different from what we were used to. It used to be one of our favorites, but this time it was much sweeter than before and lacked the rich, balanced flavor we always loved. On top of that, there were barely any pieces of chicken in the butter chicken, which made it even more disappointing. That said, the chicken vindaloo was still delicious, and both the roti and naan were just as good as before. The staff has always been friendly, and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. We're hoping this was just an off day because we've had many great meals here in the past and would love to see the butter chicken return to how it used to be.
