In June of 2025, we hosted a party at Mahal for our father's 82nd Birthday. Originally, we rented the upstairs room to hold 50 people, but the number ultimately ballooned to 90 people. Since this was a surprise party, Mahal accommodated us by giving us plenty of time for us and our DJ to setup ahead of time. The restaurant has an elevator to provide accessibility for older adults and to move equipment. The staff provided great service and several guests madenpositive comments about the food. The lamb Rogan Josh was fantastic! As the host, the staff were very attentive to our needs, timed all the food perfectly, and were extremely warm with our guests. This is a nice restaurant, perhaps even authentic to the tastes of Indian people, more so than other restaurants nearby. It's a gem that somehow I didn't know about, and I plan to go back there with my wife since we both like the spice levels of the food. However, the food is a bit too spicy for kids to find something easily (assuming they can't handle typical Indian spice). The wait staff are not tuned to what most non-Indian kids can handle, so they may recommend things that are not mild enough. The range of flavors was far beyond what I've experienced at other Indian restaurants and I'd say that food taste and even quality are 5/5. The restaurant was a bit chilly as the AC was a bit too strong. The overall vibe was ok but not anything especially memorable. It didn't have that special feel that I was hoping for. Prices are on the high side but the quality makes up for it. Our wait time for being served was more than 20 minutes more than it should have been -- especially given that the restaurant wasn't too busy. But all servers were very nice. read more

Let me start by saying we ordered a pick up order. And we were not that familiar with the restaurant , but we thought the food looked amazing and it was. We ordered the butter chicken - the cheese naan- the roti as well as samosas all very delicious. I will say the food was packaged carefully and very well . Well, we did not know is that Rice is served separately so the butter chicken arrived with no rice and so that was disappointing because we were really very very hungry so everything you order here you must order it separately and that's good to know the service was impeccable the restaurant once you get there you will notice it's fine dining so there is tons of ambience And it really is a terrific location. Slow service, cocktails aren't the best. Food makes up for it, everything was delicious. Party of 6, we ordered a few dishes and shared. The lobster curry was our favorite, not something I would normally order but glad we did. Other favs were the goat biriyani and lamb vindaloo. Can't go wrong with chicken tikka and garlic naan. This is more of a sit down restaurant, so prices were higher than you normally see for takeout. Order was ready quickly and service was friendly. They have a parking lot. The venue is beautiful, well appointed and very tasteful. The service people the day I went, which was Saturday for lunch, were excellent also very polite and attentive. The food was abysmal. I took my mother there for a lunch, we had no hard liquor drinks just 2 lassies and three main courses. The food was totally uninspiring, the grilled meat that I received was half cold and the other half unseasoned. I cannot stress enough how disappointed I was with this restaurant. If you don't care about the quality of your food or the authenticity of your food or the taste of your food and just want a nice place to take photographs for your Instagram feed then by all means go to this place. We went here for our little Diwali dinner. Service was good, albeit awkward when we arrived as it was empty and the host seemed like the only person there. It did get busier as we were leaving and we went pretty early around 5pm. Food was the absolute best Indian food we have ever had. Mind you I am Indian, My mom was with us, who also happens to be the best cook I know. She was blown away at the flavors, even my 15 year old son (fan of spicy food) said it was delicious and keeps asking when we can do take out from there again. The stand outs were the chicken tikka masala, trust me I know it's a staple but this one was out of this world. The malabarchicken was amazing, as were the lamb dishes and thali. Upon return I'd probably stick to the main meals as they are very filling so so so good. The drinks were interesting but not necessary. Overall fantastic place. We were originally quoted a price of $45 per personand a week before the event, we were told $65 with an additional $35 per person which we negotiated down to $20 additional for liquor. We went 2 hours before to set up and stage the area. Floors were dirty, tables unbalanced and most of all, head staff were not helpful at all. Food was not replenished in a timely manner, utensils were not readily available, water was not replenished. The wait time to get anyone to help was too long. The waitress and bartender were the ONLY people who kind and helpful. The party was worth the $45 value not the $85. Would not recommend hosting a party or event in that space. read more

I am forever looking for Indian cuisine that is authentic and not overrun with heavy dishes that are missing that special something. Two weeks ago I took my dining group to Mahal in Roslyn and was impressed with a lot of what this newbie venue has to offer. The Grows: There was no one at the bar nor at the entryway to greet us, so we all stood around waiting to see if we should just walk into the dining area or wait. I poked my head into the main dining area and he happily led us to our table. It was a weeknight so I don't think they were staffed too heavily (and rightfully so). Three of us (out of 6 people) ordered the garlic naan. All three servings were placed in the same basket--we are not family and don't live in the same household and some of us were not comfortable with communal baskets of individual orders. The Glows: Palak paneer is my litmus test at any Indian restaurant. Mahal knocked it out of the ball park. It was the most authentic tasting and had more heat than most places offer--WHICH I LOVED! I ordered the vegetable samosas which were served as a trio of light, tasty and satisfying samosas. I ate one and savored every bite (the other 2 were my lunch the following day!). Instead of basmati rice, I tried their lemon rice. Hands down a game changer. The rice was fluffy. The cashews adorning the top were lightly toasted. The lemon infused flavor was fresh and daring without being overpowering. Portions were generous so I had leftovers of those two items as well. This is a venue that has a very convenient location as it is equidistant from the LIE and Northern State entrances. There is parking on-site. We ordered spinach chaat, paneer lajawab, garlic naan, tomatoes and mushroom rice and some cocktails Spinach/palak chaat was a show stopper. Fried spinach was crisp, yet very soft, did not feel oily and perfectly cooked, garnished with sweet yogurt and some herbs, 10/10 dish! Paneer Lakawab was good and pretty standard Garlic naan was fluffy, soft and delicious! Tomatoes & Mushroom rice was flavorsome, with generous amount of mustard & ginger, giving it an awesome southern Indian twist to it! Only thing is I didn't taste any mushroom in it, but despite that the dish was fab! Cocktails we ordered was pomegranate something, not upto the mark and didn't like it. Tamarind margarita was not good either, I'd suggest they can improve on cocktails! Hospitality shown by servers, managers/owners was incredible! Read about this place online as it was the chefs from Tamarind Tribecca which I have been to before. Was curious to try it as the food at the NYC restaurant is great. I will say I think the food here was even better than expected! The lamb vindaloo was by far the best I have ever had. Super tender and flavors were amazing. I would eat it every day if I could. Paneer and chickpeas were solid too. I ordered the food with decent spice and it wasn't off putting (I enjoy spicy though). You can also order it mild too, really up to the party. Wait staff was extremely attentive and made sure our meal was exactly how we wanted it. One of the individuals wasn't up to the spice level and they even went out and got the Raita and checked in to ensure everything was ok. Said they wanted to make sure the spice wasn't off putting as that can typically scare people away from the cuisine and they wanted to make sure he liked the food. It's becoming easier to get great Indian food in Long Island now that Mahal has opened its doors. The service & ambiance is good but where they really excel is with the food. The dhal makhani for example was par excellence. The items on the menu are also pretty creative and not quite the run of the mill you might see elsewhere. The palak chaat for instance was surprisingly good in how it combined the different ingredients & flavors into a winning combination. Needed a extra chutney to pair with the samosas to boost their taste. Crispy but the inside wasn't fragrant or deep. Chole was the same. Need pungent flavors, needed acid, the pomegranate flavor was missing. It tasted like it's been sitting all day, being used solely for thalis or the occasional a la carte order Palak paneer was a gem tho, delicious and flavorful. Roti as well, crispy and fresh. The jalfrezi in the mahrajah thali was spot on. Maybe I'll come back and try it again, it could have been an off day. Second chance in order! read more

We're always looking for a good Indian restaurant on Long Island, so when I came upon Mahal online, I figured we'd give it a try. We had driven by this area several times and never realized there was a restaurant in this location. We had a reservation and were promptly greeted, seated and brought menus- it was fairly empty when we arrived, with only 2-3 other tables seated. Our drink and food orders were taken quickly, and the first round of drinks arrived promptly. We started with the vegetable samosas which were served with 3 delicious sauces/dips. Service began to slow down after our appetizers as the restaurant started to quickly fill up. For our main course I had the seafood platter which had a lot of flavor but both the lobster and scallops were overcooked and though. My husband had the mixed grill which he enjoyed. The main course came with plenty of naan for the table to share. I had to flag someone down to get another round of drinks to go with dinner. Overall the meal and service were just OK. I understand it got busy after we sat, but there was plenty of waitstaff that should have been able to handle the Friday night crowd. read more

Arrogance for nothing. I Visited this restaurant 3 months back and didn't find anything special about food. Yesterday went there to try again. The whole restaurant was almost empty at 745 PM except 3 tables. As I walked in the Manager or whoever he was took me to a table in middle of the room. From the walking in , his attitude was like he is doing me a favor and I am not welcome. As whole restaurant was empty, I requested him to give some table with Sofa and there were plenty of 2 seaters with the sofa and none not even 1 was occupied. He refused and told me he can't give me those tables as someone else might come in and he has to join them. It was not reserved as there was no sign of it. I told them good luck and walked out.
