Service completely deadpan. Server/hostess clearly did not want to be at work. Sports "bar" not serving beer is a big negative. Out of requested food items. Music and atmosphere was ok though the environment seemed lifeless. Advertised "Tipzy" music app wasn't even working. Very disappointed with the overall experience. Clearly this place is not being managed properly. Once the food arrived, things just got worse. Apparently "steak fries" means burnt crinkle cut fries. The burgers looked great and tasted good. But when i sent the overcooked fries back i recieved and unapologetic return from my server with more burnt fries and a "thats just the way they came out. " Pathetic. Will not be back. Great little place close to campus! It's almost always busy because of its location. It's a great hangout spot with a few games-cornhole and shuffleboard, that I saw. Servers are usually college students and most a friendly and accommodating. The food is hot and fresh, loaded with toppings, and comes in generous portions. You can't miss with a burger, but the salads and club sandwiches are also really good. I can recommend the steak salad and the California club. I love the Anytime burger. It's a thick patty piled high with bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and a fried egg. I usually order the onion strings as a side because I just prefer them to fries. It's a fun place for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner and is very popular with all age groups! read more

I genuinely love the Dawg House and getting a burger from here. It's just that the service is slow at times, such as the first time I ever went it took around 40 minutes for us to get served and the next time it felt close to an hour (though the second time it was busy). As for the food, while good, I feel like there's less effort made every time I get a burger. Last time and most recently I asked for extra cheese and mayo, and the burger just came with the buns not grilled or crispy how they usually are and a ton of mayo just slapped on a cold burger with a slice of cheese. I love this place and I hate to leave a review like this, but I feel like each time I order it just gets worse. read more

I dined here at least once/month during my time at Tech (5-1/2 years - bachelors and masters). It's been 6 years since my last visit to Ruston, and this place is the EXACT same. They had bow-legged giraffes (my favorite cocktail) and their incredible burgers with steak fries. I have a gluten allergy and know this place is full of gluten, but I took Gluten Cutter and ate my heart out. As always, the steak fries were incredible, and my burger was super fresh. They have the best buns, and they're still wonderful. My husband and I came to Ruston for our anniversary trip (was supposed to be Boston...but Covid happened). He's never been to this part of Louisiana, and he was instantly sold. He's already requested for us to come back before we leave town (it's a good thing since I was planning on at least one more trip). read more

Sure the new building looks great but the music is too loud now. The waitresses acted like you were barking orders at them. I was in Ruston on business and wanted an informal place to get a meal and a beer. The Dawg House was located a reasonable distance from my hotel, so I decided to try it. It was exactly what I was looking for. It was reasonably good bar food, and the bartender was friendly. They have plenty of tvs with sports and good service. The location is walking distance of LA tech campus. I was visiting my little sister in college and this was a convenient place for a drink. Bartender was pleasant and the atmosphere is homey however when he asked if I wanted a single or a double, I said a single and he proceeded to give me a single 1.5oz shot and in a tall 24oz styrofoam cup. Obviously this completely diluted my drink and I didn't even finish it because of how large the cup was. The drink was $10 which isn't much but I didn't actually enjoy it. I stopped in here for lunch with both of my daughters after touring Louisiana Tech. We were greeted promptly and sat promptly. We were brought our drinks quickly, although I was given the incorrect drink, and when I requested the correct drink the new one that was brought out was still incorrect. We ordered some fried pickles as an appetizer, and they came out very quickly, however, our waitress never came to check on us because if she had she would have seen that my children needed some more ranch for the fried pickles. We completed eating our fried pickles and sat for at least 15 minutes before our waitress came back to take our order. by the time our order was taken we had already been sitting at the table for about 35 minutes. Our food took 25 minutes to come out. That may sound picky, but the restaurant was not that busy. Our order consisted of some cheese, fries, a burger, and a cheesesteak. The cheese fries were fine, the patty melt was very overcooked. When I ordered my cheesesteak, I was asked how I wanted my steak, which was an odd question question to me, but I then found out the reason. Why is they were steak bites instead of traditional cheesesteak meat. The cheese came on my cheese. Steak was broken and seemed like it was quite old. I had a very sour taste to it. I wiped it off all of my steak bits and just ate the steak.the steak bits were very over cooked and tasted as though the griddle had not been cleaned. I normally do not leave negative reviews, but this place did not impress me at all. We were in the restaurant for an hour and 20 minutes and I had to flag our waitress down so that we could pay our bill and get going. If they had been super busy, it wouldn't bother me. But they had employees on their phones, sitting at the bar , and not doing much. If there had been a manager, I would not have known because no one was walking around looking like they were checking on anything. I realize that Ruston is a college town and that service can be hit or miss but this was a huge Mess. The $65 for our food was absolutely outrageous. I would've paid 650 for the fried pickles because they were the only good part of our meal. What is unfortunate is that it doesn't appear as though management is reading these yelp reviews either. I hope you choose to go here. You have a much better time and meal than we had. They were out of everything! The first thing I ordered was pulled pork nachos.... Nope we out...I ordered a BLT . A simple sandwich. They brought me a sandwich without bacon !!! Apparently they ran out. So after waiting for over 30 minutes for our food I get lettuce with fried tomatoes served with raw sweet potato chips... the only compensation I got was an offer of 20% off our order. I went to the newly renovated restaurant last Thursday @12:15 pm. The manager got a waitress and I was seated within 5 minutes. My waitress asked me what I would like to drink and if I'd like any appetizers to start. I told her I'd like a sweet tea and no appetizer. I just wanted a patty melt and some curly fries before my 2 pm class. My waitress comes back shortly with my tea. I'm sitting there watching ESPN. 20 minutes go by, still no food. my waitress tends to the table 5 feet from me, doesn't look my way or ask if I need anything. Nbd. Another 20 minutes go by, my cup is empty and again, she passes by and I'm not acknowledge. The manager is helping his team out by bussing tables. Him and I make eye contact and he continues what he's doing. Now I'm starting to get irritated. The waitress comes by to tend to another table nearby and I kindly ask if I could speak with her for a moment and she tells me she'd be with me in a moment. At 1:30 she comes to me with my food. Before I could even talk to her she takes off. Food was ice cold, I was starving and had to scarf it down. I paid my tab and rushed to class. I will never go here again and I will share my testimony as I have here to anyone who asks and is wondering how the newly renovated Dawg House is. It's pathetic from Management down... We ordered the Queso and chips and baked potato fully loaded no meat. The queso was so yummy!! I mean very yummy. The chips were freshly made or taste freshly made, either way it was delish. The baked potato had all the fixings including bacon on top, which I couldn't eat because I don't eat meat. It looked good though!! I was too tired to call or take it back. Definitely a college town hangout. Lots of young and vibrant patrons, great contagious atmosphere. College Style nachos was my appetizer choice and as far as nachos go, this was done simply the way nachos should be done. Plenty of crisp nachos, lots of gooey cheese that was hot right until the end. Small diced red peppers in the cheese for a basic flavor touch that goes a long way. Salsa, sour cream, and jalapenos were all served on the side so I was able to dictate how each bite was made up. Main course was the pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast. Jalapeno mango coleslaw was on the side and I put that right on the sandwich. Very delicious. I upgraded my fries to fried pickles and each one was tangy, crispy, and seasoned well. Super disappointed ! Dawg House use to be some of the best food and bars in Ruston. It is was rebuilt immaculately! Has potential to be the best sports bar in the area. However, the service is pretty much the worst I've ever had and the food wasn't any better. Everything took forget and then my side was wrong. We were sat quickly and our waitress got our drinks and then our food order quickly as well. When our food arrived I noticed my sweet potato chips were limp and greasy. I asked the waitress if they were supposed to be crispy. She told me it just depends on how the sweet potatoes were cut that day. She said today they are thicker so they aren't crispy. She said if they were fried longer they would burn. I find that hard to believe. I tried to eat a couple but they were inedible - cold and chewy. Not appetizing at all. The rest of our food was good, however. Sadly, once we received our food our waitress ignored us until she brought our check. At the time there were 2 tables of 4 - us included. We usually eat here when we are in town to visit our Tech student but I think we will try some other places next time. I am gluten free and my choices at the Dawg House are very limited so when one of the 3 things I can eat ate there is inedible it is very disappointing. read more

Simply put, this place is mediocre. We went on a Monday, around 5, we were the start of a small rush. As a party of two, we ordered only two entrees: a burger and a chicken sandwich. They were both cold and slightly incorrect. I got the chicken sandwich with curly fries. I asked for jalapeño bun but ended up with wheat. It was also untoasted which I found strange. The other person's burger was missing bacon. The waiter corrected this by giving us a plate of cold, stale bacon. Homeboy was nice and all but everything was just too much to overlook. Swing and a miss. We have had burgers in the past that were the bomb! What happened? There was a huge hole in the wall of the men's room toward the female bathroom. Fix that s#@t! Two of the 3 burgers were not cooked properly. The "southwestern" burger had way too much BBQ sauce pouring all over the place. Gross mess! I had the Jalapeno bun. Never again. It was very soft, and the bottom was soggy and stuck to the bottom of the metal pan. Again.... Gross. I am NOT joking! The over-worked wait staff only came to close us out 30 minutes after eating, because I had to find someone so we could leave. This restaurant and bar looks a little rough, but the food is great, service is wonderful, and the prices are good. This place has one of the best burgers.
