I was thinking, "You're the one waxing, can't you tell me if I have them?!" But instead I just said, not sure. She was basically trying to sell me a product. The waxing experience was not really that terrific for me. It was hard getting hold of her via phone to make an appointment for one thing. Then when I made one, I arrived 15 minutes early only to see a sign on the door saying, "Please do not disturb. Facial in progress" and waited 25 minutes to be seen. A girl emerged from the room and I'm pretty sure she just had a wax, not a facial because Wendy was changing the paper lining that people lie down on. The paper lining should have been a good thing, but the old looking gross bed sheet that covers where people lie down that was under the new paper lining had hairs on it and just looked disgusting. She did an "okay" job but somehow missed a lot of areas and I'm not a lion! Not the greatest quality. And she double dips. I thought that independent, licensed cosmetologists usually follow the standards of using a different stick to place in the wax every time, but I guess I was proven wrong. That is a very unsanitary thing and it made me feel uncomfortable. Good thing I got a Groupon type deal and of course I tipped on the full amount to be nice, but I will not be returning.

I went up the stairs of her salon and was surrounded by all these closed doors. I luckily wandered into the right one and had to double check - are you Wendy? For our 5:45 appointment? It would've been nice to be greeted immediately so I knew I was in the right place. Usually I've been given a few minutes in the room alone to undress and then the waxer comes back. But Wendy just stood there, looking at me expectantly. "So.. do I just undress here?" I had to ask. "Yes." It felt very weird just undressing in front of her while she stood there. I know it makes no sense because she sees everything up close later, but it was just kind of odd. While she was nice about it, she wasn't exactly warm and inviting. She was silent for a while at the beginning and then started a VERY forced small talk. I tried to reciprocate by asking questions back, to which she gave mostly one word answers. She also really randomly started a bad sales pitch. ("Do you have problems with ingrown hairs?" "Not really." "I have a product that would really help with that." The no follow up.. I was the one who had to ask, well how does it work?) She was nice and all but really just awkward. She was kind enough to offer me some magazines she was about to throw away (nice.. I got my fix of trashy celeb news). And the room was nice, with brightly colored walls, decor, music, candles, etc. You feel like you're at a friend's house or something. All in all.. good wax. And I got it for $20 using my KGB deal. If you don't mind the awkwardness and feeling slightly uncomfortable, Wendy might be the person for you.

She is simply the best!!! Saw her last night and when I complained about some shoulder pain, she worked on that area for what seemed to be an eternity. Sherri doesn't give up until the knot gives up...and they always do succumb to Sherri's prodding :-) Since I'm leaving for Mexico later this week, I had been going to a tanning salon this past month to prevent burning my lily white skin on vacation. Sherri -- bless her -- took excellent care of my skin that had the drying effects of the tanning salon and now my skin is fresh and hydrated. I'm ready to go to Mexico...with a tan AND great skin!
