They offered me money given I sign a release to not say anything... I wonder how many times something like that has happened. Here is what happened to me this year... I brought what I thought was a mistake to Azada, and they assured me that no mistake had been made. After having another firm correct the mistake, they told me "We didn't know the accounting law, so how can you hold us liable for ignorance?" - Well, Michael, that is exactly what I pay you for - for your knowledge, and to literally know the accounting rules... They had me paying over $5,000 when I was due a refund. This error has caused me a lot of time and money (however, had I not corrected the error Michael T would have had me pay a MUCH greater sum to the IRS - which is interesting, because this is the first CPA that I've met which prefers paying a higher amount to the IRS. Why? Probably because if they have you overpay it limits their liability (while if you underpay they may be liable for it. To me knowledge, if a CPA makes a mistake while being presented the correct information, they may be liable for the tax difference. However, this CPA goes the opposite direction and has you pay more which then eliminates much of their liability! - how ridiculous. This is a person who bought a CPA firm rather than building it up themselves - and I can see why. Here is a part of an email which I sent Michael T. "Here is how I see things... 1) I hired you to be my CPA. 2) I told you I thought it was incorrect. You assured me multiple times it was correct. 3) You showed I owed over $5,000. 4) I sought a second opinion. Second opinion said you did things wrong. 5) After I told you I had hired someone else because your way was incorrect, you stood by your original tax preparation stating that you were still correct. 6) After showing you the new preparers return, we had a phone call. On this phone call, you said you shouldn't be held responsible because you did not know the tax law. To me, ignorance is not an excuse, and you should say "I apologize, I was wrong, and due to my error and the fact that you've been a client for over 10 years, and now the knowledge I have gained which will help me in my practice, I will gladly send you a check for the amendment troubles". But instead, you insisted you shouldn't be held responsible due to ignorance. I just don't think that is right... 7) Then, after stating you would get back to me tomorrow (on the call), then early next week (in the email), I emailed you on that Friday to say 'hey, where are we at?', and that email went ignored. I then sent another email which became a bit more aggressive because your resolutions have been lackluster at best. 8) Now, you ask if $509 is acceptable. It is not. You filed a return on my behalf that would have had me pay 10x that amount, and then continued to state that that amount was correct." I asked them to pay the amount I was charged to have the mistake corrected. Well, at first I asked them to split the amount but they hemmed and hawed for a long time and never even agreed to that. Due to it being a mistake and needing to file amendments which is not easy and requires more work than being filed correctly in the first place, it was not cheap! He refused to work with me on this amount and stood by his statement that being ignorant of tax law should excuse him from it. This new guy is awful.

Scott was quick to set up one informational phone call, and with some prodding, getting back with a quote for taxes toward the end of 2025. He was, BTW, the only accountant from whom I obtained a quote who asked me to send documents via email, whereas everyone else had me send my documents via secure portal. When I wanted to meet in-person, we set an appt for late December, which we had to change to video (at my request b/c of family illness), and then, we were unable to do the video appt b/c his computer 'crashed.' So, another phone call...not great, especially when there were always sound issues, and I really wanted to meet with the person (or at least tele-meet) whomever was going to have their fingers in my pennies, but another phone call was to suffice. He was very informative and helpful, and we had a plan moving forward. I offered to pay for his time, which he said he would recoup later, when he did my taxes. By early Jan 2026, it was clear his firm was not going to do my company's bookkeeping (multiple emails confirm this point) b/c my current bank does not allow for third-party access, and I was to research my own payroll, as his company does not provide that service. However, there are multiple emails in Dec 2025 and Jan 2026 between us where 'follow up in spring 2026' is mentioned, where I say I want to utilize his services for taxes, and where he says his company would be 'happy to help' with my taxes. Fast forward to the third week in March 2026, I realize I haven't heard anything from him....I send up the smoke signal via email, and hear back today that 'business taxes were due last week' and that 'it's too late' for his firm to accept new clients. What the actual f*ck, dude? Even after sending previous emails, as above, he writes back they were to start bookkeeping for me in the spring (never true) and that I never followed up with sending him a final P & L statement (he never asked, in our Dec 2025 phone call or in any Dec 2025/Jan 2026 emails). He also said they can't hold spots for new clients from Jan to March. Of course, that makes sense...but not in light of our prior phone and email communications. He could've sent me an email, saying "I need your final P & L," if that's all he was waiting on...news flash--the phone and email work two ways. But, he never actually asked me for that document, or made clear he needed a different version from what I sent. Hard pass on any sort of recommendation, and I certainly won't ever consider using his services in the future. Honesty and integrity seem questionable, at least in this case.

First of all, I totally understand why my Husband needed a prenup and I wasn't upset at all about it. He had been previously married and was totally taken advantage of by his ex-wife. This time around, he had to have some level of protection in case this doesn't work out. We talked a lot about the terms of the prenup and were on the same page. Unfortunately, he didn't get to see it before it was submitted to my lawyer and his lawyer wrote it up much differently than discussed. Although we wanted to try and avoid any revisions, that just wasn't possible. Collins went through each section of the document and explained everything to me. He brought up some things he thought were questionable and we made notes on what to discuss later. My hubby and I were able to quickly rectify everything and he contacted his lawyer to rewrite the document. Collins and I met again to ensure everything was to my liking and then I signed it. His assistant is a notary, so I didn't have to worry about paying extra for that service. Overall, it was a good experience. Something that could have been very stressful was made easy.
