Seems like they've been open since the mid-80's, circa my start date as well. I can't really say it's a 'hidden gem' because it's notoriously mentioned in many circles as the "have you ever been to THIS place??" place, but people usually answer YES, with wide eyes and a few memorable dish notes. We went for a mid-week date night, and there was a constant flow of seemingly satisfied diners. The ambiance was warm and cozy, not too dimly lit but very deliberately paced with the huge portions they offer; the service was top-notch, friendly and knowledgeable, always checking back at the right times and knowing what we would need as guests. We ordered several of their suggestions with no reservations, and they delivered. My fiance still talks about that apple cider margarita and it's firmly on the list of not-too-hard-to-make restaurant favorites we roll out for our guests at home. The stuffed mushrooms had a ton of crab meat and far less breading than most, without being saturated or too heavy to start the meal. The salads are certainly slept on; neatly arranged but never the star when pitted up against their hearty steak or cajun offerings, their house salads are hard to beat, unless you're paying up for a meal-type salad. As good as those two items were, the scallops I had with their cracker-encrusted light breading were the epitome of simple, sauteed, buttery-by-nature seafood; they were the best version of scallops like that I've ever had. And the dessert...just perfect for so many reasons; crispy and gooey caramelized bananas, a good amount of vanilla ice cream and the best cinnamony syrup sauce that I couldn't stop lapping up. Really, a fantastic experience, we'll be back!

Sorry. I appreciate the efforts by the chef to try new and interesting things, but have had two…read moreexperiences there that will just keep me from returning for a long time. Really would like to see this place succeed, though, as we need something different. Chef is reasonably good, waitress friendly, but someone, a manager or someone is botching. First - was there when one other couple was, another wanted to eat, but were turned away as they didn't have a reservation. I think if that were me, I wouldn't return. Second, just last night I went for what was my 5th visit in as many months. My entree - confit chicken - was a good effort, but missed. Wasn't that which would keep me away. I had two glasses of Riesling during the course of the evening. First - $8.50 a shot for each glass of Barefoot Riesling. I effectively pay for the bottle. Bill comes. 3 glasses. Everyone at the table agrees, they had 3 drinks, but I only had 2. Waitress is informed and says she'll take care of it. She is forced to return to the table bearing the 1.5 liter bottle of wine to tell me they opened it just for me (which explains why the featured wine was room temp at best - not chilled) and 3 glasses are missing. We dispute it (I mean, after all - part of what was missing was the wine at the neck and shoulder) and after maybe 15 min. they do grudgingly take care of it. On a previous visit, after I wrote my initial review and was hoping the restaurant would make a go of it, everything, while having a good flavor, was way over salted. We wonder if perhaps the chef who made such good things as squash risotto, has left? Sorry - it's things like that which will keep people away. I know it will be a long time before I go back. And I've talked to others who have had similar experiences recently

Super nice folks that greet and take care of you. Lots of really comfy booths. I wanted to try the molcajetes with the shrimp, chicken, and steak. It's big enough to share! That thing comes out steaming and gorgeous. Honestly, I loved the sauce and queso best. The chorizo is nice. Of the others, I think I liked the shrimp best, though the chicken had great flavor. Nice fresh smaller tortillas are the real deal, too. We had the side of guacamole. Very nice. I want more next time. We ordered the rice a beans side. So good, I think we'll get two orders next time. We added the carne asada to the nachos. That green sauce on the side is great! I prefer the carne in thin slices. Yea, we still had leftovers! Nice brews on tap.

Obviously, we chose Diego and it was the right choice!! A mid-afternoon Sunday in May is not a busy time for Poconos restaurants so the parking lot was empty but we were greeted with warmth and smiles as the rain water dripped from our clothes and hair (Thank goodness for their cloth napkins!). Since tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo and there are plans for feasting on the holiday the choice for this rainy day was Diego's "Goat Burger." It was an AWESOME and flavorful burger the goat cheese melted throughout the huge burger patty only enhanced each bite. It's the best burger I have had in some time covered with a really great sesame seed bun (Looking out through the window as the rain poured down I could see that familar yellow arch thinking what a fantastic relaxing experience this was compared to burgers in a bag ). Service was great throughout... our waiter did his best to add dessert to the order but the road called however I cross this intersection periodically and next time ole... I will try one of their Mexican options.
