I walked in and the gentleman behind the counter asked what he could get for me, and I replied that I didn't really know (as I was planning on asking him for recommendations) He looked at me and said "then what the hell are you doing here?" (with kind of a grin on his face). I'm not saying that comment would have been accepted by everybody however my interpretation was that he read me pretty well and he was correct in the fact that I thought it was funny. But anyway, I told him what I was thinking about doing and he recommended some bay scallops and shrimp... I got home and made my alfredo sauce, some pasta, added the seafood and oh my gosh. The quality of this seafood was off the chart. I thought I was doing pretty well with for example the shrimp I was purchasing at my usual supermarket however after tasting this, I will be a regular customer. The place is rather small, and they don't have an excessive amount of anything as far as I could tell, however they have a little bit of everything. I'm quite sure they have more in the back at least what little space there is in the back, and I did read reviews in other places (or maybe even on here I can't remember) that apparently you can get on their email list and therefore you will know when the truck comes in if you really want fresh seafood. So anyway, definitely a place I would recommend to anybody that's in the Elmira New York area. You will not be disappointed.

South Side Seafood is one purveyor worthy of being lauded. Not only is the fresh selection very good and inexpensive, but there is also a massive selection of frozen products that can turn a plain dinner into a fine dining experience. Langoustines, delicious pastas, soups, lobster, calamari, and so on. The prices are so low that, last weekend, we ended up analyzing the receipt figuring that they had made a mistake (they hadn't). The only knock on this place compared to big city purveyors is that the fresh selection is "safe," meaning they only sell fish that sell good volume, and don't wade into whole fish, west coast oysters, or more exotic oily fishes. They sell what sells (usually like, 8, varieties of fresh fish) and, believe me, it sells.

My fiance still talks about that apple cider margarita and it's firmly on the list of not-too-hard-to-make restaurant favorites we roll out for our guests at home. The stuffed mushrooms had a ton of crab meat and far less breading than most, without being saturated or too heavy to start the meal. The salads are certainly slept on; neatly arranged but never the star when pitted up against their hearty steak or cajun offerings, their house salads are hard to beat, unless you're paying up for a meal-type salad. As good as those two items were, the scallops I had with their cracker-encrusted light breading were the epitome of simple, sauteed, buttery-by-nature seafood; they were the best version of scallops like that I've ever had. And the dessert...just perfect for so many reasons; crispy and gooey caramelized bananas, a good amount of vanilla ice cream and the best cinnamony syrup sauce that I couldn't stop lapping up.
