The breakfast was the only good thing about this place. Our room looked as though it was once 2 rooms and a wall was knocked down to open it up. The bathroom was nicely updated. It's an old hotel that a bandage has been put on it. The people above us, you could every step they took. The people beside us, you could hear everything they said. The pool was dirty. Walking to the beach, you could see there is obviously a boardwalk, but it would have been nice if they maintained it and kept the sand off it. Some rooms were smoking rooms which is fine, but put them all together and not have them spaced out so much. All you could smell was smoke. The parking lot is small. The grill.......it was an old chimney they turned into a grill. Didn't look like it had been cleaned in years. Not sure what else I can say about this, but we will NOT be staying here again. We chose the Wright Bros. Days Inn for the history of being the oldest hotel on the beach, the location on the beach and the excellent rates (in March). The lobby is a surprising delight with the hardwood floors, fireplace and old time charm. But the room certainly impressed. Double sized, king bed, sofa and comfortable chair with a footstool, and small kitchenette. Appeared to be newly renovated and very clean. A few steps over the dunes to the beautiful OBX beach. Stayed here for a week. Made the mistake of thinking a clean hotel would be a good hotel. Our room was infested with fruit flys coming out of the drain in the bathroom sink. It had two beds and one tiny chair, no table. Couldn't get one when we asked about the lack of a table. The AC is so loud you have to turn the TV up to 50 or more to hear. They serve a hot breakfast but they don't know to brown sausage, or cook potatoes, mine were near raw. We won't be staying at anymore Wyndham hotels. They're so cheap they're removing common amenities, like a comfortable place to sit in your room or even a table. read more

Great location that is right close to the Wright Brothers Memorial and it's on the beach. I stayed here one night during the off season. The room was small but comfortable enough. There's only about 18 inches between the foot of the bed and the far wall. Small table with a single chair, dresser with a flat panel television, mini fridge, coffee service and an in-room safe. Bathroom was similarly tiny but functional. This is not roomy at all but really, how much time do you spend in the hotel room? I will have to say that it was NOT very quiet and it would likely be even worse during full season. I could easily hear slamming doors in the evening and conversations in the next room. The air conditioner/heating unit was also not silent. Breakfast in the morning was pretty standard for a free breakfast. Omelets and sausages in a warming tray were fine. Breads for tasting, yogurts, some cereals, juices and fruits. Perfectly adequate. You can't beat the location and I got a great deal for the price. If you're looking for fancy, you'll be paying a lot more. Get some ear plugs and you'll be fine. read more

Had to change rooms the "ocean front" room was absolutely disgusting... trash under the bed, ( makes me wonder if the sheets were even changed) and roaches. called about it and was told they weren't able to do anything because the manager wasn't there. Found another roach, called again, and we got another room at 1am. Mind you we have a 6 month old with us.. our new room seemed alright. It smelled like a farm... the next day we found a roach. Very nice hotel! Could tell it was recently updated and the room kept very clean. My boyfriend and I were there for 7 nights, our first time to OBX and it was absolutely wonderful. We were originally only supposed to stay for 5 nights, but we were having an amazing time and the hotel staff was EXCELLENT. All the ladies at the front desk and the housekeeping staff really made our trip so much more incredible which is why we decided to stay 2 extra nights. Tanya Curtis is an excellent GM and truly made our stay that much more wonderful. You can tell how hard she works and how much she really cares about her guests, going above and beyond to make them happy. We absolutely LOVED her! We will definitely be back! read more

Family of four here with two children. We had the 2 double bed room facing the road. It's a small room having kids so I wouldn't recommend it if you can help it. We originally had a suite the week before but decided to cancel because of Tropical Storm Isiais. The traffic noise wasn't as bad as you'd think. The only noise we'd hear were the footsteps above us every now and again. Nothing from the neighbors to our left or right. The sun shown into the room for 7-8 hours until sunset so that was a bit annoying but not the hotel's fault. Due to COVID-19, there was no housekeeping so you're on your own for trash and to go to the front desk for linens. The only true annoying aspect of this is the sand we brought in each day. It got to the point in which our feet got really dirty each night just walking around the room. Again not the hotel's fault, just a circumstance we couldn't escape. Room amenities included the double beds that were very comfortable. To round out the room we had a TV, dresser drawer, microwave, mini fridge, desk with chair, additional chair, safe, and a place to hang a few shirts. The water pressure in the shower was great and the bathroom big enough. The hotel isn't far from the beach at all. A short stroll on the boardwalk and then over the dunes and you're there. 30 seconds maximum. I felt safe enough from a COVID aspect. No one really in your face or obnoxious. I didn't go into the lobby for anything nor did I use the pool so I can't speak to that. It would've been great to have had that suite we originally had because we needed the space with the kids but that's on us. Oh well! read more

There is one word to describe this hotel, loud! Can hear people every time anyone walks up and down the hallway, can hear all the conversations, even in normal tones of multiple rooms around you, right now I can hear people in the front lobby and tables bring moved around got breakfast. Definitely the loudest hotel I've ever been in. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. On the plus side, the room was clean. It did smell heavily of some sort of artificial scent and was on the small side. I am planning on finding a new hotel tonight even though I already paid for this room. Stayed here 2 nights with my dad and 2 little kids. I was so happy to get a room with two beds for a good price when our original hotel booked us for the wrong dates and had nothing available. Upon seeing the room, we were pleasantly surprised, it was updated, very clean and not too small. We had the two little kids, one of which I intended to have sleep in a pack n play. I set up the pack n play with plenty of room - there would have been enough space for three of them if I had needed it! There were a few bugs but can't say it was preventable as it was probably because my dad kept opening the door and going outside so much (several flies, 1 cockroach right at the door, and a single flea after my kids rolled in the grass for a while). The a/c and everything with moving parts worked great. All except for those curtains... we were in a first story room facing the street - an excellent spot for unloading the car especially with little kids running around in the grass. But the curtains are my biggest complaint. I could not seem to shut out all the street lights, and on the 2nd night, there was someone shining headlights directly in my eyes at about midnight. During our visit, the staff were so so so nice and helpful. I asked one lady about food suggestions and she gave me excellent information. We ended up getting gluten free pizza from Slice and it was phenomenal. Oh the pool! It was great. A little cold for his time of year but perfect for a short dip. There was a volleyball court in the sand out back on the way out to the beach, and across from that was a huge bricked-in grill which could have been really fun to gather around with a group. There was also a nice little outdoor shower area so that was handy. For the price, everything was pretty great. I would definitely stay here again. I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars but the other ratings don't seem to do it justice so I'm bumping it up to 5. The lack of a hot breakfast was explained to me at check in, they said they aren't allowed to cook right now (covid rules) but I feel that they offered a fair alternative of juice, fruit cup, granola bars and water, and besides - they gave me a really great price on my room so how could I really complain? read more

This hotel was an amazing experience for me and my family. All the ladies working at the front were so nice from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. They were exceptionally kind to my daughter as we were there celebrating her birthday. Every morning when we went to breakfast they made a big deal about being super kind to her. Loved this place! We're we're here on a fishing trip and stayed at the Comfort Inn the first night which was a horrible experience. The last two nights we stayed here in a king size suite and it was well above our expectations. The rooms are newly renovated and updated. Very clean as well. This will definitely be our new spot for our fishing trips for lodging. The staff was also very nice. Keep in mind with COVID regulations, rooms aren't being cleaned daily, think of the safety of the housekeeping staff, it makes sense.the outside of the motel doesn't do the renovated rooms justice and makes me wish I took pictures, the pictures on the website are very old. I highly recommend this location and it's inexpensive! Also there are grills, a stone fire place and a volleyball court in the back along with a walkway that leads to the beach. read more

Listen, for a beach property, this place was pretty much as nice as it gets. Beach properties are notoriously just not as nice as non-beach properties. Unless you specifically seek out a 5-star hotel, you just aren't going to find super high-end properties due to the wear and tear that comes with being a beach property. I used booking.com to find this property and it was fairly highly-rated on that site and I can totally see why. Booking was ridiculously easy. When we arrived (WAY before our 4pm check-in time) and asked if we could park and use the beach access, the staff was SO helpful and set up our parking pass and even told us what room we'd be in so we could park closer to it. The gal told us she'd let us go ahead and check in already if it weren't for the fact that our room just wasn't turned yet. SO KIND. Upon returning from the beach (totally sunburned and a little tipsy) the staff was yet again so courteous in providing our room key, directions to the room, wifi instructions and information about breakfast. The room itself was very clean. It contained a mini fridge and plenty of towels and (most importantly) the AC CRANKED! The bed was super soft and comfortable and the pillows were wonderful. It was a small room, but it had everything we needed. The property itself was old and very well maintained. The wood in the property appeared to be original and it was very well kept. The carpets were clean. The lobby was inviting and clean and nice and cool. The walk to the beach was extremely short which makes this property a real gem. We didn't check out the pool as we were just anxious to get to the beach but from the outside it looked pretty nice and there were people at the pool enjoying themselves. There is a daily continental/hot breakfast with cereals, eggs, waffles, fruit, etc (pretty standard breakfast) which is offered, however, we left early and just wanted to get on the road so we did not take advantage of this. However, when considering the cost of the room (especially if you are a family) this is a real plus because kids can really fill up on breakfast before hitting the beach which is a huge cost-savings in terms of meal planning and cost while on vacation. Bottom line: This property was a real surprise in how well maintained everything was. Beach access was superb and the staff was great. We'll definitely be staying here again on return trips. read more

My husband and I visited this Days inn on the 2nd floor (not oceanfront) and stayed there for two nights. It was comfortable and did the job. As soon as we tried to walk through the door it was jammed. My husband had to push the door open and push the door closed once we were inside. Miraculously the jam went away after the next day. My husband and I assume that somebody complained about it since we opened the door early in the morning and the jamming caused a lot of noise. When we returned to the room the door was not jammed. The hotel was really close to the beach which was nice. Our room had its own AC unit which worked very well, which was great in the summer heat. Also, the walls were not terribly thin. We could not hear other people or the tv's in the other rooms unless our AC unit and TV were both turned off. We weren't expecting the room to be so small but this is also our first time visiting a one queen bedroom. The bed had a different bed cover than from the pictures and it looked like it has been through the washer too many times. The bathroom was clean but there was a little mold at the top of the ceiling. We also found a comb like object on the carpet. The staff was friendly but I did have a hard time reserving a room when I first called. The lady on the phone misspelled my name and email address. There was a variety of food served for free at the continental breakfast (6:30am-9:30am). There was juice, coffee, mini-muffins, cereal, oatmeal, sausages, eggs (were kind of weird with american cheese in between), fruits, and Belgian waffles. I didn't try the free snacks offered during dinner. read more

The room is so stinkin' tiny, thank god I'm thin or I'd not be able to walk around to the other side of the bed or fit through the bathroom door. I went and booked another room somewhere else, for he rest of my stay. When I went to go ahead and cancel my other nights here and get my refund started (we all know they can instantly take it out, but can take days to put it back) I was told. I headed down to OBX with my fiance for the OBX Wedding Expo. As we're saving for our destination wedding, we were looking for a nice, inexpensive place to stay and the Days Inn Oceanfront was great. When we got there, around 8PM, we asked if our room was ocean view and the receptionist told us it wasn't but they did have a dunes side king free for the night and gave us a free upgrade. Very nice. The room had a strange smell. It wasn't smokey but we couldn't exactly put our finger on what the smell was. As it goes, we couldn't really smell it after hanging out for a little while. The bed was comfy, there was free wi-fi (which was key in helping us look up vendors before heading to the expo to see who we wanted to actually stop by) and the continental breakfast was stocked. Try the waffles. You won't regret it. We'd stay there again and actually booked it for our out of town wedding photographer. read more

With this hotel, you're definitely just paying for the location. It's beach front, with easy access to the beach and a little shower/foot rinse to use before you head back into the hotel. Definitely the highlight. However, for the price I expected more than a smelly hotel room the size of a shoebox. Breakfast was pretty decent--they have a waffle machine, english muffins, eggs, sausages and a cereal bar-- but the room is so small, you're always bumping into people in line and then fighting over who gets to sit at a table. We ended up taking our breakfast out to the front porch both days. Overall It's an okay spot, but I wouldn't be racing back anytime soon. read more

You can walk from the hotel to the beach but you can't see the beach from the hotel. The room is ok and the breakfast is ok. We stayed on a weekend in the beginning of September so it was $180 per night, but it is cheaper for a weekday or off season. read more

My trip to OBX was almost ruined by the huge "water bugs" in my room. We arrived late and noticed the large amount of bugs outside in the parking lot. We asked the front desk clerk about it and was told it's just a local thing because we were by the water. I googled it and thought ok.. as long as they are outside.. although, we had been to OBX a year earlier and stayed at another hotel on the water and never saw one. Fast forward to our second night..we walked in our room pretty late from a day at the beach.. and there was one big one crawling out of the sink..how gross. We closed all the drains and decided to alert the front desk in the morning. That was a huge mistake.. the next day.. we found one crawling up the wall. The front desk clerk.. first attempted to send us to the Days inn down the street.. but their reviews are worse than this one. They ended up placing us on another property. We had no choice but to take it because it was a holiday weekend. Lastly... the most shocking thing.. is when we made them aware of the bug problem.. they didn't act surprised.. and stated it was flood issue. So.. if you knew about it.. why not treat the rooms and not expect people to just ignore them while they collect the money. Also.. they stated other people were moving rooms also. So...other than the disgusting bug problem that they expect you to live with... the cleaning service doesn't even make up your bed. They change the towels and just roll out.. which is odd. Before renting a room at this hotel.. ask if they have taken care of the bug problem. It's hard to believe that if it's an area problem... how come other hotels have figured out how to take care of the issue. I will never stay at another Days Inn. If they are the only opening on the beach.. then I will just not go. read more

Really nice hotel! Back of the building is directly on the beach/towards the beach. There's an outdoor brick grill in the sand you can use to grill out! Room service is nice, continental breakfast is somewhat "plain" but as to be expected, and all the staff have been very friendly. Our room was clean upon our arrival, but our shower drain was draining slowly, so we called reception and they had it fixed within 5 minutes. Definitely recommend! read more

Would not recommend. We checked in at the end of a day spent enjoying the outer banks and immediately checked out and drove several hours home instead. The first red flag came at check-in when the front desk gave us extremely unclear directions to our room (this is a small hotel so it should not have been complicated). Upon finding our room we noticed a few immediate problems, the first being that the room was the size of a closet with only a double bed and no space for our pack n play for our infant. The temperature outside was in the 30s and the room had the AC on, it would have taken a while to heat up to a livable temperature but the unit was so loud it sounded like it was on its last leg. The room next to us was cracked up and had a visibly broken lock which indicated to us that they do not maintain their doors which caused us concern for our safety so we immediately left before unpacking a single item. Also of note: there are a LOT of stray cats on the property. This could be problematic for some people. read more

Upon arriving I was not really sure what to expect of the hotels in the Outer Banks area. Yikes, I was not expecting it was going to be this bad, at least in terms of the room condition. My boyfriend and I stayed here in mid June for a family wedding. We booked a STANDARD room which was said to have a queen bed and looked spacious from the photo(never trust photos!). We arrived at the hotel, which looked pretty normal, clean and inviting from the outside. But when we walked into the room, we could not believe the size of the actual room! It was TINY. We had no place to put our luggage, we had to keep most of our toiletries and clothes packed in the suitcase for the few days we were there.. Forget hanging anything in the "closet" which is essentially an open rack attached to a wall. Everything becomes wet and disgusting immediately. This includes bed sheets, pillows, carpet, walls, everything. We tried to adjust the A/C to see if it would make the room more comfortable - nope. We asked the front desk if there is anything we could do, or if they could give us a fan - nope. If you're are thinking these conditions were due to weather outside, nope - the couple of days we were there it barely hit 80's. This is definitely not a great place to get ready for a wedding, Even after showering you feel dirty. I will say that the cleaning staff were very friendly and fast. This location IS just a few seconds to the beach, which the only enjoyable part.. possibly because of cloudy weather and lack of people.. Overall - I would never stay here again unless it was the only option within 50 miles. If you are OK with paying hundreds a night to stay in a tiny room with extreme humidity, to the point of where everything you touch in the room is wet, then this hotel is for you! read more

Just returned from a 5 night stay. Overall we had a good stay but was underwhelmed with the amenities. I understand there are covid restrictions so things like breakfast and room cleanings are different then before the pandemic. Positives: Beds were super comfortable, our location at front/roadside was quiet other than heavy feet above us a couple of nights, hotel is on beach side with just dunes separating hotel from beach. All staff I interacted with were friendly. Cons: You are your own for cleaning room, emptying trash, and getting new towels and room supplies. Not a real big deal but would have been helpful to have at least a broom too so you can sweep out the sand that gets tracked in. A shower clothesline would have been nice to hang wet swimsuits and towels. Breakfast could have been more creative. Breakfast was the same every day. Go to office, specify apple or orange juice then get your breakfast bag that consisted of a fruit cocktail cup, an orange, two chewy granola bars and a small bottled water. I am sure they could have changed things up with packaged bagels, muffins, yogurt etc. Grounds were in good shape, but right in front of the office looks like someone had been sitting on the porch probably on multiple occasions smoking same brand of cigarette and butts just thrown into the grass. Really? Over 5 days no hotel staff seen this and bothered to pick up? Over all, we had a good stay and location was very good. But when a hotel is touted as "by Wyndham" and you are paying quite a bit of money I expect a little more than just the tag line. read more

We stay at this property every year, sometimes multiple times a year, the atmosphere is so welcoming the staff is very attentive and respectful in helping in every way possible. The breakfast is always good and a nice touch, as well as a money saver! The beach is just a few steps away! But if your not the "sand-type" person there's always the pool! The pool is very well kept. We are VERRRYYY picky on where we stay due to cleanliness, this place fits our standards to a high level. This hotel is beachfront, has nice amenities and nice rooms, albeit somewhat small in the inside rooms (the larger rooms ring the outside and have outside access. As of 6/23/16 our room had roaches. Do not stay here until this is fixed. The breakfast is great and everything else is fine, but we found roaches in our room each day since checkin day and will be informing the staff when we check out that it is the case. Would be 3 or 4 stars if not for this gross development. Update 6/25/16: Upon early checkout (we found more bugs and took a picture of one burrowed in the lamp shade) and we were refunded for the night we left. We were told we'd be contacted by an on duty manager when they were there the next day (yesterday). We were not contacted so my wife called the hotel around 5PM. The multiple managers that were there yesterday apparently had already left early for the day and never called us. My wife called again today and they stated that they had pest control come in and that they found no evidence of the roaches. DO NOT STAY HERE. Either the management does not take this cleanliness issue seriously, or the contractor they use for pest control is not doing their job properly. Do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for a Hampton Inn or somewhere else more reputable and make the drive to the beach. read more

Paid about $200/night for an ocean facing room. The hotel had free wi-fi with several access points covering the area. Unfortunately, the wing we were in could only see two of them, and barely one bar each, so neither of our kindles or iphones were able to connect reliably. And this was after an update of the wi-fi setup (according to the desk clerk). Room (and bathroom) were tiny. Parking lot was set up badly, with several spaces in our area which were too many for the actual space (our first day there, it took me nearly 10 minutes to get out of the space I was in, due to being quasi parked in [and all 3 cars involved were parked correctly in legal spaces]). Closet was tiny, with only 5 hangers (for two people!) I asked at the front desk, and the cleaning staff put another 5 in the closet. It's not like they were made of gold, either. The breakfast area had the usual 'continental breakfast' which was fine. Except for the coffee. They had the standard 'no refrigeration required' plastic cups of creamer. Which were apparently badly outdated, since out of the 10 or so cups of coffee I had, I had to go through about 2 for each cup of coffee (e.g. the first creamer was bad - flecks of sawdusty crap floating in the coffee.) About 50% chance of having a bad creamer. One wonders where they were getting it (or storing it?) read more
