Great location that is right close to the Wright Brothers Memorial and it's on the beach. I stayed here one night during the off season. The room was small but comfortable enough. There's only about 18 inches between the foot of the bed and the far wall. Small table with a single chair, dresser with a flat panel television, mini fridge, coffee service and an in-room safe. Bathroom was similarly tiny but functional. This is not roomy at all but really, how much time do you spend in the hotel room? I will have to say that it was NOT very quiet and it would likely be even worse during full season. I could easily hear slamming doors in the evening and conversations in the next room. The air conditioner/heating unit was also not silent. Breakfast in the morning was pretty standard for a free breakfast. Omelets and sausages in a warming tray were fine. Breads for tasting, yogurts, some cereals, juices and fruits. Perfectly adequate. You can't beat the location and I got a great deal for the price. If you're looking for fancy, you'll be paying a lot more. Get some ear plugs and you'll be fine.

    Roaches

Booked this room on hotel.com which had a bunch of good ratings.... It's been a nightmare. Had to change rooms the "ocean front" room was absolutely disgusting... trash under the bed, ( makes me wonder if the sheets were even changed) and roaches. called about it and was told they weren't able to do anything because the manager wasn't there. Found another roach, called again, and we got another room at 1am. Mind you we have a 6 month old with us.. our new room seemed alright. It smelled like a farm... the next day we found a roach. Will never be coming back.

We paid almost $2,000 for a suite double bed for a week that didn't have any kitchen amenities besides a mini fridge and a microwave. The continental breakfast was a water bottle, juice a granola bar and an orange every day. Worst part about this place is the cockroaches!!! So gross

Stayed here 2 nights with my dad and 2 little kids. I was so happy to get a room with two beds for a good price when our original hotel booked us for the wrong dates and had nothing available. Upon seeing the room, we were pleasantly surprised, it was updated, very clean and not too small. We had the two little kids, one of which I intended to have sleep in a pack n play. I set up the pack n play with plenty of room - there would have been enough space for three of them if I had needed it! There were a few bugs but can't say it was preventable as it was probably because my dad kept opening the door and going outside so much (several flies, 1 cockroach right at the door, and a single flea after my kids rolled in the grass for a while). The a/c and everything with moving parts worked great. All except for those curtains... we were in a first story room facing the street - an excellent spot for unloading the car especially with little kids running around in the grass. But the curtains are my biggest complaint. I could not seem to shut out all the street lights, and on the 2nd night, there was someone shining headlights directly in my eyes at about midnight. During our visit, the staff were so so so nice and helpful. I asked one lady about food suggestions and she gave me excellent information. We ended up getting gluten free pizza from Slice and it was phenomenal. Oh the pool! It was great. A little cold for his time of year but perfect for a short dip. There was a volleyball court in the sand out back on the way out to the beach, and across from that was a huge bricked-in grill which could have been really fun to gather around with a group. There was also a nice little outdoor shower area so that was handy. For the price, everything was pretty great. I would definitely stay here again. I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars but the other ratings don't seem to do it justice so I'm bumping it up to 5. The lack of a hot breakfast was explained to me at check in, they said they aren't allowed to cook right now (covid rules) but I feel that they offered a fair alternative of juice, fruit cup, granola bars and water, and besides - they gave me a really great price on my room so how could I really complain?

This is the views we had from our hotel!!

This hotel was an amazing experience for me and my family. All the ladies working at the front were so nice from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. They were exceptionally kind to my daughter as we were there celebrating her birthday. Every morning when we went to breakfast they made a big deal about being super kind to her. The rooms were very clean and updated. It has great access to the beach. The lobby area was a very comfortable place to sit and hang out and have great family time. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

The oceanfront location and easy beach access are fantastic, and the outdoor pool area is amazing with plenty of comfortable seating. They also have an indoor pool, hot tub, and a great hot breakfast. But the true standout of our experience was Kira, one of the supervisors. Her kindness and hospitality were absolutely unmatched. She went above and beyond to make my son and me feel welcomed and cared for, and her genuine warmth made our experience so much more special. Kira is truly an asset to Shutters! Samantha at the front desk was also incredibly kind and helpful. We were so impressed by the beautiful property and, most of all, the people who made us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Shutters to anyone visiting the Outer Banks!

We had a ground floor room with two queen beds. There was a "back" door leading to a small sitting area looking at the dunes. We could hear the water from there. We did go up the stairs to see the water view, but it was way too cold to sit outside. There is also an indoor pool and jacuzzi. We didn't use it but it was good to know it was there. My only complaint was the shower. It was very difficult to route the water from the faucet up to the showerhead and the water was only lukewarm. If we had stayed longer, we would have asked for a different room because of that. We could tell the hotel has been updated within the last few years. It wasn't faded decor, but had a clean, classy vibe. Not a high-end resort hotel, but certainly worth the price and it's conveniently located.

Great location too! A couple things worth mentioning though. Our room was very damp. And not just a little humid (we lived in FL for 15 years so we understand humidity), but like our clothes felt wet when we put them on and paper gift bags were soft. We actually turned off the air and opened the slider to air the room out a couple times. If I had to take a stab in the dark, there's likely a serious mold issue behind the walls. There was mold growing on the AC unit. Another thing about the area in general (not just the hotel)...flies. Be prepared to have them tag along with you EVERYWHERE. They were in every restaurant we went to, by the pool, at the beach, in the gym, in every store. It was the most bizarre thing. Just everywhere. Also, I didn't realize how dog friendly this hotel was. We have two dogs and love them, but our room clearly had a dog in it previously with signs of hair on the AC unit and in the carpet. I wish we'd have brought our own pillows as the ones in our room were down pillows and even with 2 of them, they still fall flat. Overall, the location, price, service, and amenities were totally fine but those things like the room being super damp, the flies, and pet hair were just little nuisances that I think people should be aware of.

It was beautiful and very relaxing. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were warm, which we really enjoyed. The only downside was that there were hardly any towels available at the outdoor pool. We booked the last available room for the day and were pleasantly surprised with complimentary breakfast vouchers. Unfortunately, after using the vouchers, I checked my account the next day and noticed I had still been charged for breakfast, which was disappointing. The room itself was comfortable. The pillows were soft, the blankets were warm, and we slept well. However, there was one large bug flying around the room, and I have no idea where it came from, which was definitely unpleasant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because of the pools, beach view, and comfortable room, but a few issues--especially the breakfast charge and the bug in the room--kept it from being a perfect experience.

Hopefully that has been straightened out with my bill when I check out. There was an issue with the elevator the one morning as the employee said it wasn't working.
