Let me start by saying: Location, location, location!!! You won't get any closer or convenient for the price in the area. Next, they allow pets! There's nothing better than spending the day at the beach with your fur baby. Finally, some rooms you enter from inside hotel and others you enter from the parking lot like a motel. I've stayed in both types of rooms here and they're all about the same. No, there is no longer a continental breakfast served in the lobby area but there are so many restaurants nearby and there is a microwave & mini fridge in every room. Yes, housekeeping is the bare minimum here but every business in the service industry has changed (most for the worse) since the pandemic. Do you really need someone to make or turn down your bed for you daily while you're on vacation?!? Do you really need fresh towels every single day? I've been coming to this same hotel for years and truly the only difference I see now compared to the past is the long term residents. I did not have any issues with them and I was given a room in that designated section. read more

We stayed end of April 2025. Decided to stay here again end of September but was not the same. We got there after 3 for check in. I was told we had to wait until 4. When we came back around 3:30 there was a different employee. He said we could check in. We were given handicapped accessible room on 3rd floor which we did not ask for. I asked for the highest floor which would of been 4th. The tub was not flat on the bottom. Would be difficult to stand there if handicapped. The microwave did not spin. AC ok. Chairs on balcony had mold. The hotel is very aged and needs updating. There was one elevator working. They stopped serving the grab and go breakfast. When I asked the employee they said it was stopped a long time ago. I would expect more as a Wyndham member. I would not stay here again. The pictures are not what you get. If I could give 0 stars, I would. DO NOT STAY HERE! My mom spent one night at this hotel and accidentally left her iPad on the bathroom counter. That iPad was a Mothers Day gift. The housekeeper who cleaned the room then stole the iPad. Once she realized she could not get into the iPad, she smashed the screen to the point it could not be used and bubbled up then threw the iPad out the window along the road. The only reason the iPad was found was due to find my iPad on her iPhone. When the manager was confronted, the response was that this housekeeper was a student. Not sure what that has to do with a $600 iPad that was only 4 months old. I had to replace the iPad because it was a gift and I was not letting her replace it herself. This manager and housekeeper both need to be fired and prosecuted. How many other things have they stolen and covered up? Only stay here if you want your property stolen and destroyed! read more

I booked a room with a partial ocean view. See the last picture. You have to look hard to see the ocean but it's definitely there. You can also see two cars driving by in front of the hotel. That's N. Virginia Dare Trial. Check-in was no problem. When I woke up the next morning I removed the do not disturb sign so housekeeping can come in and do what they have to do. When I came back later in the day I was surprised to find everything the same. Apparently housekeeping isn't automatic. You have to request it. Before I left my room on the second morning, I requested housekeeping. When I came back later that day, I noticed they gave me some new towels which was good, but the bed was not made (which is a part of what housekeeping does at any hotel). See the first picture. Before I left my room on the third morning, I requested housekeeping. When I came back later that day, they left some new towels. You can see the result of their "efforts" in the second picture. Again the bed was not made. The bathroom was not cleaned. I'm not sure what is going on with the housekeeping staff. They seem pretty lazy to me. When you book a hotel, you are paying for that. So in this case, I didn't get what I paid for. On my last night, I called the front desk to request a wake up call at 10:30 am so I can check out in time at 11:00 am. There was no wake up call. I guess the person taking my call didn't pass the message on to the person on the next shift. Fortunately I happened to wake up in time. I don't fault the owner for these mistakes because his concerns seemed genuine. Sometimes the staff gets lazy. Sometimes they do things without the owner knowing about it. You know, like cutting corners. The owner can't hold their hand and watch them every minute of every day and I understand that. I was going to give this 2 stars, but when I checked out, I brought up my concerns with the owner. I'll start with the good... The location was perfect! Directly across the street from the beach (tough street to cross is you have young kids) and a very short drive to great restaurants and things to do. The room was so spacious and beds were comfortable. Super friendly staff. Pet friendly. This area in general seems to be pretty pet friendly, so this was a great option if you're bringing fido. And the bad... We opened the pull out sofa and I'm not sure if the sheets were just messy or never changed from the previous guest. Luckily there were fresh sheets in the drawer so we just changed them to be safe. Room had a mustiness to it. Even with the air conditioner running it never went away (and it was not hot when we stayed). Our room had this huge wall of windows, which would be great if it didn't have a walkway in front of it. We felt like we were on display, so we just kept the curtains closed our whole stay. Free breakfast was sad. It was in such a tiny spot and the options were really bad. Overall, not a bad stay but I'd stay somewhere else next time. While the staff was great the hotel just had a rundown feel to it. read more

PROS: Near beach, recently renovated pool and pool area, parking at the hotel, king sized bed, balcony, friendly staff CONS: The ADA sink in our room had clearly been pulled off of the wall at one point and the attempt to put it back wasn't the cleanist, pool (expectedly) was way crowded with children all day, AC unit in room was very old and made loud noises all night, dripping faucets in bathroom, lots of parking at the hotel unfortunately can fill with beachgoers. read more

This is a hotel with a great location. And that's about it. Because of its good location, the proprietors feel as if they have no moral compact or compassion for their customers. When my nearly 100-year old mother needed me urgently by her bedside, I called -- twice -- to cancel. I was told the manager would call me. Nope. Not even to say, sorry. I called again to cancel, the second time making that request, and they said no. What? How do you refuse a cancellation? Just keep the room and maybe offer a partial, nominal refund? If it wasn't for location, I would of given this place TWO stars. It is located right across the street from the beach. A public beach access allows for an easy entrance to the beach. There are showers and a nice ports potty. We arrived around 2:30 after a hot afternoon at the beach. We knew checkin wasn't until 4 but thought we would give it a shot. The lady at the front desk couldn't of been nicer. She basically checked us in and offered to call us when the room was ready. We hung out at the pool and she called at around 3:30. The room was adequate. Somewhat dated. We had a pool view with a balcony. We immediately noticed that the AC unit was kinda loud when it came on (which was about every 2 minutes). The bed was comfortable. Lots of pillows. My husband likened the AC unit to a "jet engine taking off". Time for the continental breakfast !! Oh dear !! Where is the protein ?? I would of been a happy camper with just a few boiled eggs. There were 2 cereals, toast, packaged sausage biscuits and waffles (to put in the microwave) and boxed donuts . We settled for peanut butter toast and a banana. Some people do eat healthy...... Our time at the pool was fine. There are lounge chairs and 2 tables with umbrellas. Next time we will rent a condo. So my boyfriend and I came here for his birthday, got there at 4pm to check in. We loaded up our cart and headed up to our room! The room was dirty, bed wasn't made, towels all over the bathroom floor, it was pretty gross, for a second I thought we had walked in someone else's room. We call down to find out no one ever cleaned it. The guy at the front desk was kind, he and a girl went to go clean the room, but we had to sit outside with all our stuff on a cart for 40 minutes!! When we finally were able to get into the CLEAN room, the only complaint was that we literally could not open our curtains or everyone from the pool could see straight in our room. As if having my iPad stolen wasn't enough the manager on duty kept saying she's a student as if that made it okay for her to steal it. And she was appalled when I said I was calling the police . I would not recommend this place to ANYONE, STAY FAR, FAR AWAY. Remodel/upgrade from the 70's. Clean properly including shampooing "pet" rooms so the next persons pet doesn't smell like dirty, wet dog after laying on the floor. Repair things that need it. The ceiling was cracked and crumbling in the shower of my room. This place is cheap and you get what you pay for. I'm not sure how some people gave this place more than one star. I stayed with my 2 labradoodle and after laying on the floor for a little while they literally smelled like dirty, wet, nasty dog. I'm pretty sure they do not clean the floors in the pet rooms. Also, the ceiling in the shower was cracked and crumbling. my daughter in law was so disgusted she refused to take a shower until we checked into our beach house. The "breakfast" is far from a breakfast. Didn't even have syrup for waffles . A while after we checked out, I realized I had unknowingly left my iPad in the room and when I went back it was gone. No one else had checked into the room and it was not turned in by the housekeeper that cleaned the room. We asked to speak to the girl but she wasn't there. I told the lady at the desk I was calling the police and she said "but she's a student" as if it was okay she stole it because of that. Please, please do not make reservations here, the staff are obviously not trustworthy. I wouldn't even give this place a one but I had to put something. My old van broke down while passing through Kitty Hawk to see the Wright Brothers Memorial. It was a Sunday night and I had no choice but to find a mechanic and a hotel. I needed pet friendly as well. Travelodge was one of my only options. The price was reasonable and the manager was way more than helpful. She was aware of my circumstances and agreed to let me check out late due to my need to walk the 2 miles to go pick up my van after it was fixed. When I got back from picking up my repaired vehicle, two of the housekeepers told me that since I work remote and needed a place to work, I could just stay in the room until the late housekeeper came. I have been treated like a number at other hotels, but this staff is super empathetic and top notch. I'll likely come back and stay here just because of my great experience. Great people! read more

I am developing a tradition of visiting the Outer Banks during the summer. Well, I've done it two years in a row, anyhow, and when you're in your twenties, that's as much a tradition as anything is likely to be. I will begin my commentary on this years trip with a review of this Travelodge, since I called it home for four days. The Nags Head Travelodge fit my two primary criteria: cheap and dog friendly. If you're also looking for these things, you should be satisfied. The hotel was old but clean: our room was small and tidy, and although it smelled a little stale at first, running the AC for a few minutes quickly freshened it up. The rest of the hotel isn't especially noteworthy: there's a modest pool, modest free breakfast, and modestly polite staff. It's not oceanfront, but the beach is literally just across the street. I spend as little time in the hotel room as possible when traveling, so the lack of excitement did not bother me. Travelodge Nags Head: not a thriller, but gets the job done. I'd consider it again next year. read more

They stuck us in a room with freshly painted doors so we had to ask to be relocated before we went to bed (with hopes it would've cleared out by then) because the paint was so fresh the odor was making us sick. I booked this place for four nights in September; I got, 2 queen beds, "a suite," which was just a large room and paid $1,003.26 including tax. The hotel is close to beach with pool and free parking. The room I stayed in, room 400, has zero privacy if you have the curtains open. The only way you can get natural light is if you open the curtains which open your room up to the viewing of every person who passes through the glass enclosed hallway outside the room. On the first morning there, I didn't realize this, opened the curtains to enjoy the ocean view, which I had paid extra for, only to be greeted by a man walking by who immediately turned to look at me. I had no pants on, friends; I had just woke up and wasn't dressed yet. Super Embarrassing. Learn from me people. Let's talk housekeeping next. I know it's COVID-19 but I feel like when I ask you to come clean up my room or change the sheets because my 8 year old spilled chocolate milk all over the sheets, and you tell me that you can't help me because anyone coming into my room isn't allowed because of COVID, huh? If I am not there and I have not been there for some time, why can't you have someone empty my trash and change the sheets? The place where I work has folks come empty the trash and clean our office. The person was able to clean my room in between patrons, right? Yet I get no help here. We ran out of TP during our stay because there was just the one roll provided on the TP holder. I had to go ask for more TP at the front desk. They provide no breakfast. Not even just a "grab and go" breakfast that another hotel I stayed at in Durham NC provided in July 2020. They said there was a coffee and tea station for guests. Great. It's just cost savings for the hotel. Now let's talk roaches? I killed a very large roach crawling across the carpet. Great location right across the highway from the Wright Brothers National Monument. Clean rooms and nice staff. They brought us up extra towels when requested. Some room entrances are inside while others are outside. It was really hot out. We were way down at the end, so had to walk quite a ways from the elevator in the heat. It is a busy place, and parking was tight coming back from dinner. They have luggage carts, which made it so much easier to get everything in and out of the room! We had a very nice balcony looking over the pool. The pool looked nice, but I was too tired to use it, and we were only there for one night. read more

This place wasn't bad. I came with the family and the four of us packed into an 'oceanview' room. It wasn't really oceanview though...I just saw a slit of ocean, with a main helping of the two-way street below. The balcony area was a bit sketchy and needed some cleaning. On the other hand, room service stopped by everyday. The room was clean, and came with a lot of useful resources (menus, areas of interest, etc). There's cable, and other standard fare you'd expect. I liked how they had free continental breakfast though. They had bagels, toast, doughnuts, cereal, coffee, and juice. They're across the street from the shore. It's on you to say if it's an inconvenience or not. Also, the entire first floor is reserved for pets and their owners.There's plenty of parking too. A bit tight, but good enough. It's also conveniently close to a road that's filled with stores, etc. Service was awesome. Edit: In hindsight, this place was close to many local attractions. I'm not a snob when it comes to traveling. I don't need concierge service, or world class accommodations. They're nice when I can get them, but I don't NEED them. Being the Outer Banks, there are accommodations-a-plenty. The Travelodge Nags Head Beach Hotel suits my needs: kinda cheap, clean, convenient. They advertise as being the "best deal on the beach" and they are absolutely right. They have one of the lowest rates, they are dog friendly (a big plus for me!), and they are a 1.5 minute walk from a beach access. It's not right on the beach, just across the street. With that said, the hotel does have a 1980s appearance to it and the rooms are on the smaller side and very simple. They offer a free breakfast every morning, but you are better off going into town. The staff is very polite and the hotel is kept remarkably clean. I can't speak to what it's like during peak travel, but when I visit in May and October there is plenty of parking, too. When I travel, I don't usually spend too much time in the hotel. There are newer, nicer places to stay, but Travelodge is one of the few pet-friendly places, has a great price, and is my go-to hotel on the OBX. read more

I'm seriously confused about others reviews. I paid less than $100 a night for a room directly across from the ocean. It has a fridge, microwave, counter space, and cabinets. The breakfast was one of the better compared to other low cost hotels. The pool seems well maintained. The hallways are quiet, and there's no pet smell despite the rooms being pet friendly. Worst hotel experience I have ever had. The bathroom was disgusting you could see the dirt. The front desk staff is rude and refused to listen to me explain the laws about a service dog. They "graciously" offered to "upgrade us" to a few without a view of the beach, the number of beds we wanted, and an non disabled access room for an extra $50. If you are a service dog handler they will ask you illegal questions like asking for fake and paperwork from a scam site. When calling corporate they only cared if they were getting sued but wouldn't step in to mediate. I "hope" this place can survive the $75,000+ fine they will get from the Doj for breaking the law. Bottom line disabled people are discriminated against and not welcome here. read more

Amazing is they are pet friendly, saw a guest with 3 Great Danes hope they had a room with a King Bed. Made me miss my Danes, but now I'm a Pap owner, easier to travel with. My family(5) stayed here two nights and my mom booked 2 beds and a pullout couch. When we got there we found out it was an old conference room and the pullout bed fell at the top. And this place had not one window outside, unless you count the hallway. My brother and I bother slid in the bathtub and had bumps. Also we found bugs in the room. I give it 3 stars for price, for size of the room, and for proximity to the beach. The rest leaves a lot to be desired. I knew that for this price I wouldn't be getting the Ritz Carlton, but I do expect the basics like daily housekeeping (especially at a beach location where sand piles up quickly). Well on our first full day of the vacation we came back to the room between 12-1 pm to shower and the room still hadn't been cleaned yet. To me that seemed late for the room not to have been done, so I called the front desk to ask if they knew whether housekeeping had come through our floor yet. The woman at the desk said she didn't know but that the housekeepers have until 2:00 to get the rooms done. Now that's where I think she had the opportunity to go from okay service to above and beyond service. But she failed. If I were in her position I would have contacted housekeeping to find out the status. But essentially she told me to just wait it out. So we left for more outings and returned after dinner, only to find that the room was never cleaned. Part of the reason I chose a hotel over an Air B&B was for the built-in room cleaning service. So for me this was a huge miss. The evening desk person at least did some good service recovery by offering to bring fresh towels and by taking away our used ones. The free breakfast was another big draw for me, but if it is for you too then I'd recommend looking elsewhere. It's basically two generic cereals and some stale bagels. Carbs upon carbs with unattractive apples and oranges being the only remotely healthy options. I was hoping for one of those make your own waffle deals, but no such luck. If you care about price above all, then this is your place. But if the other things matter to you then you're probably better off paying a little bit more for something nicer. read more

As soon as I got here my key card stop working on the door. I was moved 2 floors up and the door is messed up and jammed. In the bathroom the drain didn't plug so I couldn't bathe I could only shower. The elevator stopped working so me and my family had to use the stairs all the way to the fourth floor. Horrible place. If you're looking for inexpensive, pet friendly (with no extra fee), very close to the beach, very clean and comfortable then this is the place. They are very pet friendly and don't charge an extra fee for bringing your pet, don't impose size restrictions or number of pet restrictions (that I know of). My husband said he saw a woman walking out of the lobby with her 3 chocolate labs. We brought our chocolate lab and she is very comfortable. They even have a jar of biscuits at the front desk for your pooch : ) Ih and there is an animal hospital not too far from the hotel, which is also nice to know incase fido has a problem. There is a small refrigerator, microwave & 4 cup coffee maker in the room. There is plenty of grassy areas to walk your dog to do their business. Their continental breakfast is just the basics - mini bagels, waffles, mini breakfast sandwiches you can warm up in the microwave, ceareal, some fruit, donuts, juice, tea, coffee, milk. There are a few restaurants in the area that serve breakfast. There is a half decent sized pool with a small waterfall and palm tree which adds to the appearance. The rooms are very clean and everyone on the staff I've spoke to is very friendly and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. ***One word of very important advice......if you book with Hotwire, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc.. and need a pet friendly room call the hotel directly after booking to make sure you have a pet friendly room reserved. You do not want to arrive and there not be any available. I know this because I had to call to confirm a late check in time and I asked to be sure I had a pet friendly room. Hotwire did not book it as a pet friendly room needed. The woman I spoke to here at Travelodge changed my room to pet friendly with no problem. read more

DO NOT STAY AT A TRAVELODGE The worst company and worst customer service to deal with. This is our second year staying at this hotel. We need a pet friendly hotel to stay at. This hotel worked out perfect because it is 24 miles from our OBX house and it's convenient to stay at before our vacation begins. This year my husband went online and tried to book 2 rooms with Travelodge. In the middle of booking, their website went down for maintenance or problems. We got an email confirmation for only one room. As we couldn't get back online to book the other my husband called Travelodges's 800 number. She said we only had one room booked so she booked our other room. 2 days before our trip we received 3 charges on our credit card for 3 rooms. One charge for $314.53 another for $253.64 and another for $243.50. When I called the hotel direct they told me there was nothing I could do because we missed the 3 day cancellation policy and to call the 800 number. I called the 800 number and was told by them there was nothing they could do and to try calling the hotel. The hotel told us to call the 800 number again and speak to a supervisor because Travelodge's computers are always crashing and this is nothing new. The supervisor was completely useless; she did nothing but told me to put in a claim and someone would get back to me within a week. I said that wasn't good enough and she assured me that someone would call within 24 hours. It's been a week and we're still waiting for that call. When we checked into the hotel yesterday, we only took the 2 rooms that WE BOOKED. The 3rd we told the attendant wasn't needed because we didn't book it. He still would not give us back our money. As we were checking in 3 different people came in looking for a room and at least 1 of those people wanted a room for just one night. Scott behind the desk told them, "Sorry we are booked". I asked why they can't have the room that the computer screwed up, and he said the computer won't even let him book another room. He also told us Travel Lodge's online computers are always going down and our problem was nothing unusual. It has been more than a week since Travelodge told us they would reach out to us and they still have not done so. Stay at a Hampton Inn, always first class customer service with a knowledgeable staff and an all around great hotel. read more

We got a so called suite which isn't a suite at all. There is no division between sitting room and bedroom. We paid 1100.00 for two nights on 4th of July weekend and we were ripped off.It's just one big room. Make sure to bring your own coffee and coffee maker.
