When I landed pregnant with my second child I wanted a similar experience to what I had with my son. I gave birth to him in Olympia, Wa at a free-standing birth center. I loved the empowerment behind not needing a hospital as well as the mentality of not interfering with natural progression in labor that these types of operations have. Once I found out there were a couple of birth houses in my area I scheduled appointments with both. I chose Dayspring in the end because the midwives there matched up with my personal beliefs more and I loved the house itself. It has a delicate and homey feel to it very similar to "The Birth House" in Oly. The midwives and staff of ladies were always so welcoming and sweet. I can be a bit reserved with new people but I felt very safe and in good hands the whole time. It didn't take very long for me to open up with these ladies. I love that they include massages in their birth packages as well as ultrasounds. I didn't have to go through the hospital for anything. I did go through my naturopath for certain perscriptions based on some blood work but the midwives at Dayspring drew the blood which is nice too. Both Inga and Jennifer (the midwives) are very proffesional and sincere. I've truely grown to love these women and I so look forward to delivering my next baby with them. I had a short labor but my daughter was a water born baby and it was just so beautiful. I felt that the staff really just has a heart for those first precious moments to belong to the family. They were just so relaxed and it felt very organic. When they did interfere it was never intrusive. I'm so thankful for this experience and I can't thank these women enough for the hard work they do and the love they share with their clients. read more

I have wanted to write our story and experience with Dayspring for several years now... It was a mixed experience. Before I begin I want to emphasize that the families I met who had/have worked with Inga and her staff (many repeat births) LOVE Dayspring. The head midwife Inga Arts truly has a heart for loving on her clients and deep desire to see babies and mommies safely through pregnancy and birth. My family and I chose to use Dayspring Midwifery in 2012 for the birth of our second son. We wanted the "natural birth" experience. The birth center feels like an adorable bed and breakfast. I was sold on it immediately. :) We were reassured multiple times that they had experience working with our insurance and that their services were partially if not mostly covered. For us nothing was covered because the midwives at Dayspring are CPM not CNM's. Double check with your insurance company! At the time we filled out our contract the practice had two midwives. However, during our pregnancy one of them abruptly left for "personal reasons". We were assured that this would not influence the level of care we received but honestly it did. Though our prenatal care was excellent, the week I was due the remaining midwife Inga left suddenly for a family function. After choosing a birth center mainly for the personal care, relationship and the natural birth experience having our midwife leave was understandable but also deeply disappointing. I was still new to natural, drug-free birth so a little petrified; upset to be left with a stranger. At 40 weeks pregnant the stress was horrible. We so appreciated that the substitute midwife drove several hours to meet with us and put our hearts more at rest. She was very kind. I was so excited for our birth center experience and we had an incredible birth just shy of 42 weeks! The day I went into labor Dayspring was kind enough to get me in for an ultrasound to check fluid levels at no cost. So appreciated! After my labor began we drove to the birth center and Inga met us there right away. I was able to move freely and labored with little discomfort throughout the night and next morning. Baby came out beautifully. Sadly I then had a rare retained placenta situation and needed a transfer to the hospital for an emergency D&C. At Kootenia Hospital in Coeur d'Alene my family was treated terribly as "transfers from a birth center". I pray no one is ever treated the way my family was by Kootenia. I on the other hand was treated exceptionally well by all the doctors, anesthesiologists and nurses and am deeply grateful for the care of Dr Cutter who was very gentle in his retrieval of my placenta so that any future pregnancies would not be affected. THANK YOU Dr Cutter. After our birth/hospital transfer Inga was very overwhelmed with multiple births elsewhere and I didn't see her. It may sound silly, but after the traumatic experience we went through I missed out on my post birth meal and herbal bath. As I was still trying to process all that had happened and was very sick for several months it would have meant SO much to me to have had Inga personally provide these experiences and love. I felt unimportant and forgotten when I was sent a student midwife to see after my post birth care. Our Dayspring baby visits after the birth were wonderful and we felt that our little one was quite adored and well cared for. Due to my placenta issue we will have to seek future care in hospital. That being said...I would have a natural birth again in a heartbeat. :) read more

I had my first baby with Inga when I was 15 years old, the whole team was amazing and supportive, it was a great experience! Three years later we became pregnant with our second child, of course we would go back, I couldn't imagine birthing any other way. At 32 weeks we discovered my wee one was breech and we tried everything short of acupuncture to to try to get her to flip but alas my stubborn child was not budging. Just 3 days before my due date I went into labor and went to the hospital for a c/s, Inga met us there and was so supportive and really helped calm me down as I was terrified. She left while I was in surgery but she came back to check on me afterwards. So even though she didn't deliver my baby I was still so grateful to have her by my side. Fast forward two years and we were having our third child and I was determined to have a vbac! Thanks to her and her team I was able to have the water birth that I had been dreaming of for my previous birth, it was very emotionally healing. They handled all of my problems with great care and I never felt less than completely safe. I honestly couldn't imagine having anyone else as a caregiver for my pregnancies, I just love them all. read more

My first review has been deleted. I wondered why I couldn't find reviews on this place before I decided to use their services. I'll write a review each time it gets deleted! The prenatal care was great. As a 1st time mom I was req'd to pay a separate charge for a doula. She dbl booked herself, didn't come to my house as planned, she ended up also being my midwife (still a student!) paid for 2 people and received the svc of 1. My baby was OP, they knew this & I should have had a seasoned midwife. Inga , Jenn & Kim were very unprofessional walking into my birthing room after 15 hours of labor and talking about ingas plans of sky diving later that day and completely turning their attention away from me and fully on to Inga. I felt like a shadow in the room and an inconvenience. Later I had to be taken to KMC for a c/s. Kim lied to the staff and said Inga was my midwife because Jenn (aka my "doula & midwife") wasn't even a licensed midwife. Wish I spoke up to the staff but labor pains were intense and I was focused on my baby. Save yourself the trouble and don't do business here. They wouldn't refund me the doula charge and basically told me "sorry you feel that way." read more
