I brought my car to this gas station/repair shop in September 2025 and now, May 27 2026, it still sits un-repaired. This is the only place in the Coachella Valley supported by the California Bureau of Automobile Repair who will help me pay for the necessary repairs when my vehicle did not pass its smog inspection due to a computer malfunction. The owner operator has repeatedly refused to give me an estimate of projected costs involved and have not told me when it will be attended to. A couple of weeks ago, they actually did say that it would be ready on Monday, May 18, 2026. they told me not to come by as they would call me as soon as it was ready. They never called. I finally, went by today Wednesday, May 27, 2026 to inquire as to the progress. There has been none as far as I can tell as they never answer a direct question about the process. I have been car-less for more than eight months! This is untenable. They became surly and raised their voices when I have been patient and polite throughout! I am filing a complaint with CA BAR. They should not be allowed to hold a customer's car for such a ridiculous length of time without an adequate explanation of why work is not being done. They are completely useless and show no remorse for their unbelievably poor customer service. Do not take your car there for repairs. read more

I had just spent $50 buying gas at the pump and ran in the mart to buy a soda. She was so condescending, criticizing my attire. I got ripped off by the service manager, took my car in with a power drain, first they disconnected my lighted door sill plates stating they would not shut off, they come on when door is open for they are wired into the overhead map light which goes on when door is opened & goes off when door is shut, I told him there was a dim light coming through the third member brake light on trunk all the time, he stated there will always be some voltage going to it? never bothered to look at that. Turned out the trunk light was staying on all the time & that was what a saw & the power drain issue to begin with, now my lighted sill plates are damaged for they broke off the mounting tabs forcing them into place incorrectly. Spent hundreds of dollars for them to solve the problem but only made more issues, then he sated it was my battery causing the problem? Wrong again & I am left to 'pick up all the pieces' & paid again to have it actually corrected. I would not recommend going there for any service if you value your hard earned money. read more

A gruff no nonsense owner who just gets it done right. This place continues to be our pandemic salvation for my parents in their 80s. From the simple full service gas service, to a huge overhaul of my father's Ford Fusion after sitting for 3 years. They treat me and my parents directly but with the appropriate level of respect, and most importantly don't over charge or recommend unnecessary services. Please understand, the staff are not going to win any "warm and fuzzy awards", but they will win for honesty and integrity! This is the most critical piece of the puzzle when it comes to mechanics, and part two is that they know what they are talking about / working on with cars. Brought my car to 76 for a smog diagnostic after the dealership said they couldn't do anything (dealership tech didn't know a CEL precludes smog monitors from checking). Michael took a look and said I should take it back to the dealer under warranty rather than pay him to do the same thing. He also printed some schematics and a service bulletin. Had a big automotive emergency and was able to limp into the 76 Station. Explained my situation to a gentleman, he showed me what he thought might be part of the problem. Then Michael came out and explained it further and what was" necessary' to fix the problems my 2004 TBird was having. Necessary, meaning, I couldn't drive it anywhere without monumental damage. He said the biggest problem may be finding the parts...lol. This was Friday, the beginning of a 3 day weekend. I hitched a ride home and waited. JUST SAY NO!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! In August 2021, I took my dad's 1986 Mercedes 420SEL for a simple smog check. The car was running beautifully as he is super conscious of maintenance. My dad also had just had a complete makeover new paint and upholstery because he was gifting the car to my son for his 17th birthday. Mike the mechanic said it needed a new Catalytic Converter. I said okay but i wanted the original part back. Fast forward to May 2022 and the car is still there. Mike did not have the proper personnel that was knowledgeable in that model car. It now does not run at all, Mike conveniently doesn't know where the original Cat is (worth $5000 and only two in the USA, btw). I had to call the BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) because Mike wanted me to pay $1000 for the Cat that doesn't work and he wouldn't release the key. So, today, on the advice of the BAR investigator I am towing the Benz to International Motors where they will work backwards according to Mike's paperwork. If in fact, the fix done by IM was a direct result of the work done by Mike, Mike will be paying for the fix as per the BAR investigator. I'll keep you posted when i get the Benz back! In the meantime, NEVER, EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO UNION 76 UNLESS YOU'RE JUST GETTING GAS!!! read more

DO NOT GO HERE TO GET GAS I tried to pay with my credit card, but the machine said my card was denied (which was odd, because I just used it). I went inside and put $20 on my card. My credit card immediately alerted me of fraudulent activity, of a charge of $95. I went back in to alert the gas attendant, but he seemed confused. I drove off, and then while on the phone with my credit card to confirm that the activity was NOT made by me (and they confirmed it was from this gas station), I realized that I sure as hell did NOT get $20 worth of gas. My tank was only 1/4 filled, when $20 should have filled the tank (the tank was about half full, it's a Mazda3). WOW. BEWARE!!! read more

My car broke down in the parking lot, and since I do not have a mechanic in Palm Springs,I took it here. My engine light had come on and I was having loss of power, left it with them to diagnose and asked for an oil change also. After having it for several days I was told they would have to replace some parts. PIcked it up and was handed a bill for $1000, but still was waiting for a couple of parts to be delivered. They charged me over $500 in labor. The next day my engine light came on and loss of power. I called them and was told it was probably a sensor and it would be $1000+. I decided to take it to my mechanic in Orange County who charged me $400, no labor. When I showed him my bill from 76, he shook his head and told me they overcharged me. It also took 2 months to get the light bulbs they ordered, thinking they had charged me already, took it in for the bulbs and they CHARGED me another $100. Said he was giving me a deal,, haha.. labor way more than parts. I will never even get gas at this station again. Such a rip off!! Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the Valley? read more

This might be the worst gas station in Palm Springs. Prices are high and they are completely rude people that work there. The mechanics are no good as well. Do Not Go Here, they are bad mechanics and will rip you off!!! I HAD A BAD RESULT OF A CAR REPAIR AND THEN A SECOND, EVEN WORSE ONE! Car #1: I had to get a couple new tires and have them all rotated. Easy. Turned out I "needed" tons of other work. The bill, just under $1,000 for 2 tires. I don't drive much, so it seemed fine for a couple weeks, until my boyfriend and I went on a trip an hour from home. The back tire was making a strange sound and then, at 70+ on the freeway, the whole thing started shaking. We pulled over to find that 3 of the 5 lugnuts which held the right rear tire were gone!!! The other 2 were so loose you could turn them with your hand. We got lucky that the tire didn't come off completely! When we went back to the station, looking for new lug nuts and an 'oops' or 'sorry', we were met with defensiveness and accusation. BUMMER. But, a friend of mine recommended them, so I decided it was an honest mistake and likely to not happen again. Car #2: Our car failed a smog inspection and we were right up the street from this place, so we decided to try them again. They had our car for an entire week, told us the computer was bad and they couldn't tell anything about the car until it was replaced, spent $1,000 (that seems to be their minimum) and did NOT fix anything. When I spoke on the phone to them and got stern because I was tired of this situation and very much had the sense we were being conned, the guy went into that macho-you-don't-know-anything-little-girl kind of condescending talk. My boyfriend went to pick up the car, the manager went off on him about how terrible I was, but didn't actually fix the car. Oh, but he claimed he got the CHECK ENGINE light to go off. The CHECK ENGINE light came back on the next day. Please, do yourself a favor, go elsewhere. read more

THIEVES!!! STAY AWAY!!! I talked to and stood next to the mechanic while he replaced my battery. Ten minutes later the invoice had a misc $5 charge included. I asked the cashier about it and he spoke to the mechanic. The cashier explained to me that the mechanic had to use a solvent to clean corrosion off the cables. I WAS STANDING RIGHT THERE! No solvent was used on the clean battery cables. I spoke to the mgr who spoke to the mechanic and the charge was removed but no ooops or apology was offered. Two months later I took my truck to get serviced at ford dealership and found out the smoke tree 76 service station had roterred the brand new brakes they sold me when they installed them, deliberately shortening the life expectancy of the brakes. Well I had a very good experience here. I have a 2015 VW GTI, and when I started it - I noticed a few different indicators on the dashboard, I had not seen before. I had a feeling it was a battery issue. Also I was unable to unlock the hatch with the Key fob, so something was up. I am a snowbird, (yes -one of those) and was getting ready for my long drive back home, so the last thing I wanted was to have an issue with the car. I drove in and asked if they could check the battery. He immediately came over to where the car was, and attached the little computerized device. In about a minute the results said 78%.. he said it may last another 6 months, or it might not start on Thursday. I asked him if I could please move forward with replacing the battery. He said yes, and to expect a call in about an hour. And that's what happened exactly. When I am shopping at Ralph's I always notice a terrific variety of cars being serviced here, and when I had this issue I was glad I went there. Truck broke down in the desert and these guys were great. New starter was 300 less than the local Honda dealership and the manager was surly and fun during a shitty experience adding some levity. The only downside was they promised a 1pm delivery but only started the job a few minutes before -- knowing it was a two plus hour billable job. Other than that super happy and highly recommend. DO NOT GO HERE FOR AUTO REPAIRS! My car seemed to be over heating so I pulled into this station. The mechanic Mikey said he would diagnose the cooling system. After almost 2 hours I was told I needed and new radiator, cap, thermostat and complete coolant exchange. Totaling @$1000.00. I went a head and had it towed to my mechanic who said he could do it for $300.00 less. After his inspection, I was completely shocked to hear him say...THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR RADIATOR! Only the radiator cap needed to be replaced (a few dollars). It's been a few weeks now, I've been to San Diego and Orange County several times and the radiator has given me no problems. I see many tourist, elderly and nearby neighbors go to this station. It just saddens me think of how many people have been taken advantage of. read more

I took my 2003 Ford Focus here for the state DMV renewal Smog Certificate. Mike took the car in right away without an appointment, and said 30 minutes was all he needed. Sure enough, car passed with flying colors and I had my car back in no time! Very friendly and professional, and they honored my local coupon that came in the ValPak mailer. We live in Los angeles and have a weekend place in twin palms. Mike and his crew have saved my butt a couple of times. One trip down the AC started acting up in our mercedes. and my dog learned how to roll the window down while I was on the freeway. I kept putting it back up. then the window stopped working in the down position It was 109 and I had no AC and a large lab in the car with the window down. Mike and the team fixed my car the next day. The next weekend the AC went out on a classic mercedes convertible. I am beyond picky but Mike fixed it for 100 bucks he found the problem our mechanic in LA could not find. This really happened the next weekend I got the spoiler on our Lexus stuck on a parking strip it hung down and rubbed on wheels. ARRRGH. Mike actually screwed in the lower spoiler and saved me about 1k in repairs. You would never know it was fixed. Thanks guys. And at least no car problems for the next year right ha ha.
