This league USED to be good. DCFray got lazy. They make you ref your own games or make you ref other teams games. When the dcfray staff does decide to work with the teams, they mark the scores wrong including during the playoffs. When we asked one of the staff members who marked the wrong score for our team - she said "you can write my name in the email to dcfray I don't really care" unfortunately I don't remember the waste of molecules name, but that's a pretty shitty response for someone who obviously didn't pay $60 to play on a league. Go to Rivall - they have a better league, paid refs, a dj and they're cheaper than DCFray. read more

Absolutely love playing the volleyball league! I started knowing just one person on the team, and I soon met some of the best people. It was an incredible summer. I was an an intern last summer in DC and I was still able to join a league. Now that I graduated and live in DC, I plan on sticking around all year long. read more

I joined a United Skeeball league this spring and had so much fun. Registration is pretty inexpensive compared to other social sports (around $30) and the host bars provide some great specials -- at Continental, they offer $4 drafts, half price appetizers, and free pool to anyone in the league. For skeeball, you can pick teams of up to 15 friends, or start with a smaller group and let some random players join you. Anyone who joins this kind of group doesn't take themselves too seriously (which can be hard to find in DC). Past team names have included "Skeez Nutz", "Hepatitis Skee", and my own team name, "The Skeeotches." Everyone is super friendly and it's a great way to meet new people in the city. United Social Sports has begun growing their reach across the social sports arena in Washington DC over the last couple of years. As a person that is an avid participant in many leagues from Football and Volleyball, I have to give them the best rating of all the leagues in this city. The level of professionalism they exhibit by being timely and prepared contributes to all of us being able to arrive on game day and actually have fun and not have to worry about nuances that can come with a lot of the other leagues. They are responsive, engaged, consistent, and always a positive experience! Also, from a sports perspective they have a diversity of league levels so if you are an avid athlete looking for competition or just looking to meet new people to have beers with, there are teams and leagues they have for everytone! read more

DC Fray is a scam. They are extremely rude and don't care about the experience at all. I actually am bewildered about how much money this organization must be making for how little they provide. Our company sponsored out team of 22 people, which was over $1600 worth of team fees, for what? A $5 t-shirt, rude people, poor communications that don't go out until last minute, and a horrible experience. Not to mention, our kickball league has only gotten to play once in the past 3 weeks due to other team forfeits. Don't waste your time here and stay far away from DC Fray. If I could give DC Fray 0 stars, I absolutely would. Pre-COVID, I had signed an entire team up for Spring Flag Football. Paid $700 to do so. Shortly after, leagues were cancelled due to the pandemic. Okay, no problem. However, I am now moving out of the DMV area and had requested the SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS be refunded to me. DC Fray will not do that and will only issue player credits for future league signup. Great... THANKS DC FRAY. Those credits are USELESS to me if I don't live here, and now you're withholding almost half a month's mortgage during a pandemic. Like many of the other reviewers, I asked for a refund because my league was cancelled during covid, which I was denied, and they STILL don't have basketball available and now I am moving from the area. I emailed over and over and Brittany refused and cited "an act of God" which is HORRIBLE customer service. Seriously? What a rip off. To top it off, I decided to give it another chance (since I had the credit to use...) and rounded up 3 friends to sign up for a volleyball league this summer. I emailed their information email to put us on a team if possible. They responded that we shouldn't have been able to register, despite being able to sign up online and charge our credit cards. Weeks later one of us gets an email that we are registered and the league is starting today. Interesting that the only person accepted IS UNDER 30 YEARS OLD. Are you kidding me? This is the worst display of ageism I have ever seen. It is clear the rest of us were not worthy to an organization that caters to 20 year olds. Played in a skeeball league at H Street Country Club on a Sunday night. Skeeball in a bar with your friends sounds great, right? My friends and I may have set our expectations too high based on previous experiences in other leagues... We had fun in this league, but most teams took the sport too seriously (spending inordinate amounts of time lining up skeeball "shots", arguing with the refs and other teams more often than skeeball calls for) then socializing exclusively within their teams. These were not the people for us -- a group of people interested in having a few beers and being silly. This may have been exclusive behavior of night/sport, but it was enough to not want to sign up again. We switched to a more fun "sport" and league with less serious teams and better perks. read more

We just played a 7pm game in their Flag Football league in Anacostia. I've played a lot of DC Fray seasons over the year (mostly soccer) and this experience with a referee was a first. The most sexist referee we've ever had. He kept criticizing us for playing more than 3 girls. We are just as welcome to play I. The games as the guys. Also considering most of our team is women, we should be allowed to do what we want without judgment. Our team is a mix of players that signed up for fun after COVID & who is this man to judge us for playing how we want. This isn't the NFL. It's a social league. The referee needs to remember his role and he isn't our coach. Women are allowed to play whenever and however we want. He also penalized us because our female players talked back when he tried to talk us down. We have equal rights and this man tried to minimize our roles and make us feel insignificant in what he believed was a sport only for men. read more

Some of the other one-star reviews on here are about bad experiences like rainouts, or bad teammates, things that USS can't reasonably be expected to control. This is not about that. This is basically a marketing front for a few cross-promoted area bars and gyms (and Bud Light) that USS packages as "connecting with friends". USS will charge you an expensive non-refundable administrative fee to indifferently set you up with a random group of people (in our case, because our company team wasn't big enough) and adopt their asinine team name. Try getting your money back when this happens - or after you find out that each team is required to "volunteer" players to ref other games, or be disqualified from the rest of the season. Yes, your provision of free labor is essential to USS's business model. Guy from USS spent 15 minutes on the phone explaining that I should've seen these disclosures at some point during sign-up, but they were non-existent or magnificently well-hidden. And I've spoken with five people from our team; no one had idea we were supposed to volunteer to ref. The only thing I could find was their no-exception no-refund policy - keep clicking, you'll eventually find it. I was offered credit for a future season, but this would have solved literally none of my complaints. Honestly, there are more stupid premises on which you can hang out with your friends and meet people, but unless you're going to door-to-door selling Herbalife, you'll be hard-pressed to find a company organized around less shady operating principles. read more

This will be the second review that I've ever written for a company in my life. I've been playing with DC Fray Soccer for 2 years but only because there is a lack of competitors in the DC area. My first complaint is that is costs 75 dollars to play a season of soccer and you don't really get anything for your money. They don't provide soccer balls, the lights on the field are usually 50/50 whether they will be on or not, they don't give you uniforms until 2-3 games into the season, and the refs don't actually ref. At this point I don't know what the difference is between just showing up for a pick-up game and playing in a DC Fray league. Last season every team was blue and we had to bring our own uniforms and balls and since the refs don't ref we were calling our own games. My second complaint is that I signed up for a league which they then cancelled but refused to give me my money back. Instead, they told me they could only give me credits for another season. The next season I signed up for a league again but, for the second time, they cancelled the league and I asked for my money back again. They told me since I paid with credits, I wouldn't be allowed to get a refund. I've tried calling and emailing but they don't answer phones and they don't answer their email. I'm about to get a lawyer involved but they still don't seem to care since they already have my money. You would think that they would respect their customers who have been around for a couple years but their only response is to contact info@dcfray.com (they don't answer this email address) and that they have a no refund policy (This isn't a refund. I paid for a service that they didn't provide and I would like my money, not credits). read more

This is a great (and inexpensive) way to hang out with friends, get out during the week and have some fun. I did the spring Wednesday night skeeball league at Continental Pool Lounge in Rosslyn. It was so much fun. There was no pressure to be good at skeeball, since it's such a random "sport", so it was a really laid back environment. For $35 (I think), we got 8-weeks of play and a t-shirt to-boot! The bar offers drink specials, and during the league nights the other games (ping pong, shuffle board, pool, etc) are free. There really are no down sides to this. I highly encourage people to get some friends together to form a team and play. Side note: besides skeeball, they offer corn hole, bocce ball, shuffleboard and kickball. read more

Where do I begin with this company. Our team plays DC Fray Kickball on Sundays. The first couple games were a complete mess. They make you ref your own games after paying $60 for the league, no music was playing, and the fields change every week. The last three weeks we were in between a busy street and the Capitol so the ball would either roll into the street or go into the pond. Our host's answer to this problem? Create a human wall so the ball doesn't go into the street...seriously?! Finally, our team made it to the playoffs which are today aka Mothers Day. Naturally, we all love our moms and cannot play on this HOLIDAY. DC Frays response: Bring your mom, so now our team is forced to forfeit. To say the least, our team and other teams in the league won't be playing with them ever again. Save your money and go to Zog or Volo! read more

Signed up for in-door gym yoga with a sponsored bar. Turned out to be rooftop outdoor yoga in the cold/freezing fall weather. No bar, but BYOB in the same freezing roof. I politely and repeatedly asked for a refund due to false advertising. They wouldn't, so I contested the charge on my credit card. If DC Fray did not provide said service, your credit card company will back you up. Remember to use such consumer protection. Not a good experience. Stay away, or contest your charges. read more

This upcoming spring will be my 9th season playing a sport through USS, so obviously they must be doing something right. This is by far the most fun, best managed social sports league in the DC area. Rainouts are called quickly, and every effort is made to make up any missed games. Games start on time, and the refs are incredibly friendly, despite the crap they deal with from overly competitive douchebags on a weekly basis. At times the "social" aspect of the league is neglected, but through no fault of the league. Takes a lot to mobilize people to hit up a bar on a Monday night after volleyball. Though, they do hold league-wide parties and activities if you want to meet new people. The end-of-season party is always a hot mess, but a great time. Anyway, if you're looking to play social or competitive sports, I definitely suggest you try USS. read more

I've done various social sports over the last few years and I always have a good time. Some of my teammates have become close friends! I joined bocce because I was relatively new to the city and didn't have a lot of friends. My team was so great, we have all kept in touch and continue to play bocce together- last winter, we won our league's championship! I have also played kickball, which was a riot. Lots of young single people play, and the after parties at the host bar are fun. Not to mention that playing kickball surrounded by the monuments is surreal. I highly recommend any of the sports that USS has to offer. The leagues are well organized and you are sure to build friendships and have a lot of fun. read more

This is a consistently frustrating organization. I've played in numerous social hockey leagues around the area and DC Fray runs the absolute worst ones. There have been so many scheduling issues that it's almost laughable. The highlight being when DC Fray "forgot to book the facilities" at the beginning of a new season (this is literally one of the ONLY things they're actually responsible for doing, and they utterly failed at it). They also cancel games with little-to-no notice and don't communicate when other teams forfeit. All emails to the organization expressing concerns about these scheduling screw-ups were hand-waved or downright ignored. It's almost as if they don't care to do better. If you want actually want to play sports with regularity: don't sign up for a DC Fray league. read more

The soccer league is poorly organized - I was placed in a different league than I signed up for, they couldn't manage to turn on the lights until 30+ mins after kick-off in winter and the referee makes very questionable calls, to the extent that both teams are frustrated with how it's being handled. Hi, I would like to express my frustration with your company... again. I am in two leagues, one of which was from a credit based on a previous league in which the company did not give us enough players for a "legal" team. Each league is fine except for the actual company that runs it. It is what it is, a softball league to go have fun. I'm not expecting great umpires, but I expect them to know the rules and go out and enjoy myself. Wednesday night at NY ave: Background: We had an 8:30, at 9:08 they told us it was the last half inning. Games are supposed to be an hour or lets be generous and say they are supposed to be 50 minutes. 1) I paid for a league that started at 7:30, not 7:00. I work an hour away and therefore planned on 7:30, not 7:00pm. A company should not change the product that it is selling. 2) Statement one is owing to the lack of thought and foresight by the company. From your email sent to us, "Based on your feedback, we were able to negotiate our permit length to ensure that all teams have adequate game time before the field lights are shut off." Don't you think that would have been a detail that was discussed initially when setting up the league and obtaining a permit? Great, thank you for doing your job... 3 weeks into the season. We shouldn't have to give you feedback on something that should have been taken care of ahead of time. 3) Game length week 2. I know you received a number of emails regarding this. From your website: "4. Due to differing circumstances in each and every game, some games will finish short on an hour in length, while others might run over the hour mark. Please respect your umpire call in this matter. He/she must keep all games on time in fairness to teams playing later hours and due to facility permit restrictions." We paid for a 50 minute/hour game. Not a 38 minute game. Again this goes back to poor planning and an inferior product. For our 8:30 game last week, we got home at 9:28 and we live 20 minutes away. Sunday at Quincy park: You gave us two females on the team. One hasn't shown up, I don't blame you for them not showing up, but you shouldn't merge a team until there is enough in the correct ratio to do so. This is problematic because the burden of trying not to forfeit is being put on the players that clearly don't know anyone else who can play and don't know each other making the facilitation of communication difficult especially before we have met. Moreover, the team was not put into place until less than a week before the first game making it difficult to address the poor situation with which the league gave this group of players. I am not asking a lot, or so I thought. Just give us the service/product that we pay for. If that requires putting some thought into organization or how to do things, then that is a sacrifice this company should make. However, they continually do not make this sacrifice. read more

If you're looking to meet new friends and have a blast- this is the league to join. I moved to the area without really knowing anyone- joining a Sunday kickball league quickly changed that! I play in one of the monument leagues and often find myself in awe of my surroundings- makes it that much more fun! Everyone flocks to the bar after so you get a chance to mix and mingle with all the teams and other sports (a lot of my friends have actually been from other teams I met here after). They offer so many activities (I say that because it's not only "sports") on every day of the week which makes it super convenient. My only complaint is that it's not as competitive as I would like- but it is a "social" league, so I can't get mad at it! read more

I Love the Fact That There is a Lot of Sports to Play in DC and Going to Bars and Places After Playing Sports

Terrible organization!! DC Fray has grown in prominence by continuously finding new ways to rip people off. Read on and look at nearly ALL of the recent posts before signing up for any of their leagues or activities! For many seasons, I have submitted various comments (originally both good AND bad), and after more than a year went by (and my comments had turned into complaints), DC Fray pretended to send a personalized apology. However, the message they sent went to everyone, and it did not even address my concern; instead, they just directed everyone to sign up for their new leagues. When I replied, I never heard back - just like when our team notified them that the website shows the wrong field location, the referee entered the wrong score, or any other acknowledgement of an error on their part. Along with their lack of communication and overall disorganization, here are some of the changes they have made over the past year and a half: Soccer: - Bought another soccer league and shortened its regular season from 8 games to 6 games - Shortened each game from 25-minute halves to 20-minute halves (at best), meaning a 20% decrease in playing time - Pretended to allow teams to cap their rosters, but then forced teams to accept numerous free agents so that coed teams have 5+ guy subs (even though only 5 guys play at once) - Advertised game times as being between 7:00 and 11:00; in reality, for 2+ seasons, games only took place between 9:00 and 11:30 - Advertised games at 7:00 and 8:00 (full, 60-minute time slots) for the following season, but once everyone had signed up and paid, changed the first week of game times to 6:30 and 7:15 (45-minute time slots) and blamed Arlington Dept of Parks & Rec - Sneakily changed the rest of the season's game times to 6:30 and 7:15 without telling anyone in the league (we luckily noticed the change on the website) Volleyball: - Shortened each game from 60 minutes to 45 minutes - Got rid of referees, but added "coordinators" who just stand around (sometimes chatting on the phone or reading a book) and kick teams off of courts before they get to play for 45 minutes I'm more than happy to edit this post if any improvements are made, but blaming Parks & Rec and issuing insincere apologies - with invitations to just sign up for another league - are sad excuses for customer service. read more

This is my fourth (fifth? I should just count the t-shirts...) season in USS: I've played skeeball, cornhole, and shuffleboard. It is a cheap way to play social games in good bars and to meet interesting people. It definitely has a target audience, but that is perfectly okay. Really, the games/people/bars combination alone would be enough to make me a fan. However, they also have an end-of-season party every season, hold a bunch of fun events like movie screenings and snow tubing trips, and give away free stuff all the time. (Concert tickets!) Sure, they occasionally overbook their leagues or have an end-of-season party on a holiday weekend, but overall, they do a great job. ...and really, how else are you going to get the management at The Exchange to let you and 50 of your closest friends play cornhole and flip cup out front in a suit while sipping on your favorite beer on one of those lovely 80-degree summer evenings? read more

I am in my fourth season of games with DC Fray, having played in a social volleyball league and two seasons of social soccer, with my current league based around bar trivia. The DC Fray online platform is straightforward and useful in connecting you with your teammates, in addition to making the referees accessible should you need to contact them. There have been a few situations in which it was unclear whether games were going to occur due to weather, in which situation DC Fray has a weather hotline available that is typically up-to-date. I have been happy with the teams with whom I have been connected, as I have joined as a free agent for all but one season. One of the challenges is making sure that there are enough (people who identify as) women present for your games, as some leagues understandably force a minimum amount of gender diversity for each team. Other than losing out on the initial investment to join the league, there are no incentives to keep players in attendance of their games, creating some difficulties around making all the games fair. This is not the fault of the platform itself, but rather of the flaky residents of the DMV area. My one minor criticism is that, at least for the soccer league, whether a league is "social" or "athletic" is up for debate. I say this because my soccer team was comprised chiefly of people looking to socialize and exercise, whereas most of the teams we faced were collections of experienced players who routed our team without fail. There are tiered leagues in order to level the playing field, but I suppose there is no guarantee that this will happen every time. read more

In fact, one "ref" showed up half an hour late (after we'd already been playing) high out of her mind. These people are real rip-off agents. After they subsumed the sporting organization I'd played with for well over a decade, they upped prices, increased mandatory team sizes, and reduced location and day-of-week options for games. Their latest change for leagues of my particular sport - volleyball - has been to reduce the times of games from an hour to fifty minutes (or possibly 45 minutes). Almost as annoying as the monetary heist they perform on their players is the faux-friendliness of the emails they send out, as if they think we'll be blinded to their rapacity by some exhortations to have fun and few exclamation points. read more

A lot of the negative reviews I have seen have been for soccer leagues, but the Sunday softball league had been fantastic. The league was easy to sign up, umpires have been fantastic, and league is the perfect mix between casual and competitive. Will definitely be signing up again in the future. read more

The guy who runs our floor hockey league in Fairfax sold the league to this company. For a bunch of "professionals", this is the most mismanaged league I've ever had to deal with. They're terrible! They canceled a game yesterday (Jan. 3, 2018) and then about an hour before the game was supposed to start today (Jan. 4, 2018) they decided the games were now on. In the past, when we didn't have a referee, they've just told us to referee it ourselves. Pretty difficult when you have two competitive teams playing each other. Heaven forbid they look for another ref or postpone games for a week. What's the big deal about pushing everything back one week? The only reason I can come up with is because they don't want to give the players a "free" week that they haven't paid for. So you're aware: - You're going to get a ton of spam. They flood your email box with the activities they put on. - They're all about drinking. All their events are come to this bar and drink with other people. Given my experiences with them over the past few seasons, it seems like they're only in it for the money. They charge you far more than is fair for the product they produce. Like I say, I can only speak about this hockey league, but if they can't even manage this correctly, why should I expect anything else for another sport? read more

My team and I have played 3-4 seasons with DC Fray Sunday kickball league and its consistently the worst sports league I've ever been a part of. Glad to say we're taking our team to Volocity. Way overpriced for what you get: a t-shirt and refs that either don't know the rules of the game or are totally checked out. And thats when you actually get a DC Fray staff member to show up to your game. Its a total toss up when you have an other team's player ref. As a consistent point of frustration DC Fray states very plainly they will notify you if your opponent cancels but we had 3 of our 6 regular season matches forfeited, day of, by our opponents and 1 of our 3 playoff games (which immediately advanced us to the finals which caused our entire team to waste their time showing up and, DC Fray doesn't reschedule or otherwise compensate for the lost games. Meaning that you're SOL and paying for games you never got to play (in our case half the season). Did I mention that the rules change on a game to game basis? We just had our championship finals match this last Sunday and we were informed by the DC Fray paid staff member that the rules that we had been playing with since the season began (and that appear in the DC Fray Rule Book) were not going to be used. Why would you change the rules in the most important game of the season? And they weren't little changes either, he allowed: sliding (expressly forbidden in the rulebook), pitching side arm (expressly forbidden in the rulebook), a rule where a ball would only be called if it was above the knee (something that is extremely difficult to do unless you're blatantly trying to do so) no matter how many bounces it took (does not appear in the rulebooks and, from what I can see, was made up on the spot), ground rule doubles (appear nowhere in the rulebook), rules that regulated how many bases the batter can advance on an overthrow that weirdly only counted in certain instances but not others (appear nowhere in the rulebook). He later told us after the game ended that this was his first time reffing kickball. Are you f***ing kidding me? Meanwhile the other ref was on his phone the entire game. Thanks DC Fray. Have had mostly positive experiences with the kickball operations but the cancellation of Spring activities without opportunity to have a say in getting a refund was autocratic and inconsiderate of the participant. If DC Fray is so concerned about remaining a legitimate business during the coronavirus pandemic, they should also trust their customer base in letting them decide how they want their canceled registration handled - credit, refund or donation. Not "Oh, you've been credited" and that's it. Not everyone wants to do virtual activities or be told that they can't get their money back without any input or consideration. If the business is so worried about its operations, ask for donations or apply for loans. Don't hoard cash at the expense of your participants. You get poor reviews like this one! read more
