Our sons booked this trip as a gift, at first I was reluctant as we have lived in the area for years. Turned out to one of my favorite gifts as the tour opened our eyes to places we have not tried for one reason or another, plus got a little history and learned a couple of things. Terry was our Tour Guide, he was awesome and very knowledgeable of the area, the history and the food. It was a walking tour, Terry kept a pace that everyone could enjoy, did not rush, explained each stop in advance. He also seemed to have a great working relationship with each of the stops staff. We were seated quickly at each spot, and did not have to wait long for our food. Each spot served enough to give you a taste of the menu, and each stop was very good. The Mexican food was amazing, and one dish in particular will bring me back sooner than later. The crazy thing was most of the ingredients are not on my favorite list, but together- Bam !!! That was the cool thing about the tour, took us out of comfort zone, and exposed us to selections we normally would not have tried. Definitely recommend this tour, Terry was the best, and not just because he is a fellow Nats Fan- LOL. My wife who never does group photos did not hesitate when another participant said "Hey, group photo" she jumped right in. Just a nice relaxed way to explore new foods, when visiting for the first time or as a long time resident. Find new go to spots & possibly make new friends. read more

We took a food tour for Leesburg VA in early March. It has been 2+ months but to this day, I am still a bit sour about the tour guide that we had, Jen (she was Half-Asian). My girl friends and I signed up for this food tour to eat at food restaurants and have fun amongst each otherm the tour guide treated us like children, and acted like she was a historical teacher the whole time. We were not overly disruptive and just wanted to each other's company while having good food. We signed up for a "FOOD" tour but instead Jen instead that it was also a historical tour and made us very uncomfortable by over-lectueinf and quizzing us about historical facts about Leesburg, slavery and Civil War. At one point, between the third and fourth food tour stop, she made us take a huge detour around the town so she could over explain about histories behind slavery trading in Leesburg. At once point we got really bored and tired of being treated like children (we are all professional women over 30+ years old), and started laughing behind a bit in the street to chat. She had a full to turn to one of my friends and say 'plesee tell your friends to stop talking and pay attention to what I'm saying about these important events.' She over-shared that she leads school tours in DC during g other parts of the year and maybe she confused us with the school-aged children. But we did not enjoy our experience with her. I contemplated not sharing this awhile because I really think hard about leaving a negative review, but even two months later, her condescending attitude and the way we were treated as a group really stings us. I hope this type of tour guide can be curtailed and mapped for a "food" tour experience they advertised and we paid for instead of historical lectures. Ethiopian Food Tour (U St. Area) - Excellent Tour! 3 food stops starting with a traditional Ethiopian Breakfast, a full entree, and more entree and dessert! We went to: 1) Habesha Market & Carry Out - learned about the different spices used in Ethiopian cooking. Had Foul, barley rice dish, and bread. Almost made me full already! Very yummy! 2) Chercher Ethiopian Restaurant & Mart - They are known for their tibs and that is exactly what we got. If you look at the pictures, we got an entire plate of food to share. It was more than enough for all of us even if it was just this one meal. I also tried their honey wine which was sweet but still not to my non-alcoholic taste. The side dishes that we got were all delicious and it was a great mixture of spicy and not. The place was small and intimate and we really got to chat with each other and our tour guide. 3) Dukem Ethiopian Restaurant - came here for their chicken dish and got more stuffed. Then finished off with a Tiramisu dessert which was the perfect ending to this food experience. I appreciated that since this was more of a unique tour that the group was quite small (only 6 of us + tour guide) so we all got to talk to each other and listen to the tour guide. We had plenty to eat as well. We were well stuffed by the end and I did not need to eat until the next day. The reason I took away 1 star is because this tour was more like someone pointed out 3 good places to eat and took us there rather than a whole Historical Food Tour experience. Not much history was discussed and as we were walking, it was simply to get to one destination to another - the route wasn't purposeful to historical matter. Our tour guide was late and was very casual - he didn't talk to us at all until we sat down at places to eat. I'm use to the tour guide talking as we walk and explaining things. It was fun to walk and eat but for the price, I can eat the same amount of food for 1/3 of the cost. Tip: Our tour guide said the best tour is the Baltimore Italian Tour and you get a lot of pasta and you get to go to the founding place of the Tiramisu! =) I might take a crack at that! *See pics for amount of food!* read more

Just took the Food tour in Old Town Alexandria and we weren't disappointed. Our guide, Lynn, did an amazing job of mixing history, walking and eating and gave us an excellent experience. Visited 4 different eating establishments and was more than impressed with the amount of food there was. So much so that we ended up taking dessert to go as we had no more room to eat. Highly recommend this. Great idea for a date or for gift giving. Looking forward to to trying one of their other tours soon. read more

What an absolutely unique and neat experience here in DC! I just moved here a month and a half ago. Myself and my friend who is from here had another one of our friends visiting from Detroit and we were looking for some different activities to do while she was here. I found DC Metro Food Tours and we quickly decided that the Ethiopian Food Tour was an awesome way to do something completely different and check out a lovely neighborhood! Enter our tour guide, Chris, who is a self-described history buff and boy does he know his stuff! We wanted to totally immerse ourselves in something new and different, and Chris was the perfect dude to do that for us. I could totally tell that Chris was completely in his element on this tour... plus friendly and funny to boot! We had a great time with him! The food and culinary experience overall was out of this world. We made 4 stops total and let me tell you, you will absolutely get beyond your money's worth of amazing Ethiopian food! Our first stop was Habesha where we were treated to a traditional Ethiopian breakfast! Chris had a bunch of spices from the shelves that he explained their flavor profiles and how they're used in Ethiopian cooking. We talked about many other dishes that aren't the American norm such as raw ground beef, etc. Next up, we went to Chercher where we were given a massive plate of different preparations of tibs! Basically a ginormous plate of meat lol! This is where Chris explained the injera bread and the communal way of eating. We had a blast! I immediately ordered some Tej honey wine which I have actually had before as a winery I'm familiar with makes it. After we had our fill of meat, we headed to Dukem where we were given this massive veggie combo plate that included various lentils, chickpeas, tomato salad, cabbage, etc and some chicken stew in the middle. We dug in again with our injera and continued to enjoy Ethiopian wines and beers. The veggies were very refreshing after stuffing our faces with a ton of meat lol. Chris schooled us on some Ethiopian and Eritrean history which was all so fascinating to learn about! We were all ready to roll ourselves out of that place but Chris promised us dessert at the next location, Ambassador. What he didn't tell us was that we had another communal dish ahead of us with both wet and dry tibs! All the different preparations of tibs were great to experience, not to mention the spices and sauces! Chris explained to us the Italian influences in Ethiopian desserts since they basically have no dessert of their own... and then we were treated to some delicious tiramisu! Ambassador actually ran out of the tiramisu, so Chris ran next door (which happened to be our first stop at Habesha) and grabbed us all some tiramisu! Finally, we ended up back at Habesha where we bought some market items - they have all the spices, lentils, beans, injera, etc for sale. As if everything wasn't incredible already, Chris got us a small sampling of this beef tongue dish because he heard a few of us talking about it during our stroll. This tour was absolutely top notch and I'm so glad we did it! If you are looking for something off the beaten path and to learn about an incredible culture, I highly recommend doing this tour! We have taken this tour twice. Both tours were the Old Town Alexandria tours. The first time the tour was amazing (smaller group), the second time it was pretty good. The tour guide was the same and he is very nice. The first time he was more upbeat and informative, the second time he was a little quiet (perhaps a bad day). The second time we went we took family that was out of town. They said they had a really good time. During the tours we stopped at 3 restaurants and 1 dessert place. My Georgetown Food Tour as a whole gets as a five. Our tour guide Christian was top notch and took us around the hidden alleyways and neighborhoods that once held DC Elite. Even though I have lived hear my whole entire life, it was really cool to learn about the history of our city and find out cool tidbits like where JFK proposed to Jackie! The food aspect of the tour was a two. As Xerxes said, the food was definitely hit or miss and I think they could have done a better job of choosing restaurants to partner with. Many of the food options we were given seemed to be haphazardly put together without a real focus on what the restaurant should highlight. One particularly memorable (bad) dish was a cold chicken wing (they said it was cornish hen) with gelled bbq sauce served over microwaved orzo (we could tell because it was cold in some areas, warm in the other). There were a few highlights: cute garden ambiance of Cafe La Ruche (which was otherwise a dead zone), a particularly yummy steak snack at Paolos (but totally random dish choice), and of course desserts from the ever famous Baked and Wired. We had a few vegetarians on our tour and it seemed like their tasting portions were created as an afterthought..."Here's some...ugh....lettuce! It's the most wonderful lettuce in all of town!" I have read the reviews and it seems like the other areas that they visit around town are pretty clutch, I'd definitely be interested in checking them out! read more

So I kind of have mixed feelings about DC Metro Food Tours, but overall I still had a favorable experience. I booked the Georgetown food tour for a party of about a dozen of my colleagues, most of whom live outside of the DC area. The food tour was to be our culminating activity after spending a few days together and I couldn't wait to show them around Georgetown in the fall. DC Metro Food Tours as a business was absolutely awesome to work with. It was easy to orchestrate the plans and they were happy to accommodate although booking the party just the week prior. It was always easy to get a hold of someone via email and phone and the exchange was always nothing but pleasant and professional. Additionally, our tour guide was fantastic. Personable, adorable, easy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area, I think just about everyone in our group was a fan of him. The only thing about the tour that I (and many in our group) were less than impressed with were the restaurants we were taken to. Of the three, most of us only really felt a connection to the first stop: Cafe La Ruche. That was the only stop where we got a sense of history surrounding the business, were charmed by the surroundings, impressed by the chef and smitten with the food. The second and third stops (Paolo's and Puro Mediterranean) seemed a little random and on site, we were not so impressed with the food. Additionally, the dishes that were brought out at both of those restaurants seemed totally out of what we expected from an Italian and Mediterranean restaurant. (And not really in a good way.) Luckily, our guide stopped by Baked and Wired prior to meeting up with the group and had a delicious dessert for us, leaving the group swooning. However as a local, I just didn't feel the food we had on this tour was even a glimpse of some of the great food we have in the area. Although I'm sure there is a lot more than goes into which restaurants DC Metro Food Tours partner with, if there is any recommendation I could make it would be to revisit the restaurants that are part of the tour and perhaps suggesting that each place offers one of their most popular dishes at the very least, in order to give folks the best impression. I actually ordered some additional food off the menu at Puro (because it was the last stop and I didn't really like the dish that came out) and was surprised by how much better it was than what we were plated. Additionally, it might be cool to also have the restaurants do a progressive tour: appetizer at stop 1, soup at stop 2, entree at stop 3 etc. Just a thought. Overall though, definitely worth giving DC Metro Food Tours ago, however it sounds like Eastern Market might be the way to go! read more

My husband and I have been to many different food tours around the country and even the world. We were pretty disappointed in this one. The tour guide was funny, informative, and really knew the history of the neighborhood, so this is not a review/rating on him at all. However, the set-up and the restaurant choices were a bit off to us. Usually food tours will make stops at several different places for smaller tasty bites, but I felt as though each of the places we visited with the exception of Ted's for the poptart was a full blown meal. I could tell everyone felt uncomfortable with the portion sizes. I also wish I had known about the restaurant choices ahead of time because if I had known we were going to make stops at regional chains such as Cava and Ted's, I would not have picked this tour. La Belga was an odd choice. Food was fine, but I didn't understand the cultural/neighborhood connection with Belgium food. It was also a bit fancier, which was again, an odd choice for food tour stop. Cava and Ted's were fine, but these restaurants are popping up all over Northern Virginia and other states. Las Placitas seemed the only true local mom and pop shop, but the food was mediocre at best since they served our group plantains, cheese quesadillas (seriously?!), and some strips of steak. Very underwhelming. Overall, we definitely learned some interesting history in the neighborhood thanks to our tour guide, but the stops and format were very disappointing and underwhelming. If you're a local or native, I would skip this one. read more

When I visit other cities I search for food tours before arriving. DC Metro Food Tours offered a few of them and I'm so happy with our choice: Georgetown Gastronomical Food Tour. The whole tour was wonderful. Sarah was our guide and she did a great job. She was informative, but not boring (and she was always smiling). The food was outstanding. Everything was delicious and unique. The food portions are well worth the cost of the tour. Don't hesitate to take this tour. Just don't eat before you start the tour and expect to be stuffed. Tour: Gastronomic Georgetown Food Tour My boyfriend had never been to Georgetown and found this for us to do as a fun activity to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived we met the tour guides at a square in the middle of the road near benches under some trees. They were very enthusiastic and knowledge about the history of Georgetown and the restaurants we went to. I highly recommend going on one of these tours! They were a great time. Tip: Don't have super high expectations for the food at the restaurants. Some of them were better than others, and overall we were satisfied. This was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Washington D.C.. We were taken to four different restaurants as well be taken through an old historic neighborhood of D.C (although I guess they're all historic in some way.) My sole complaint was that the fellow that we were supposed to meet to begin the tour didn't have any kind sign or clothes or anything for us to know who he was which led to a lot of panicked searching before we figured out who he was. Anyway this was a very ethnic tour with some different cultures of food being represented here. Our first stop was Capitol Hill Tandoor And Grill Indian Restaurant. Rhey served us some delicious Mulligatawny which is a sort if lemon flavoured Indian soup. They also let us sample some rice, stir fry, and naan as well all of which were very good. Second restaurant was Las Plascitas Mexican Restaurant. They gave us some chips and salsa as well as Carne Asada which is a Mexican take on steak. Again two very good dishes. The next was a Greek restaurant called Cava Mezze. This was my personal favourite stop on the tour. We were given pita bread with two different dips; olive oil and a tomato based red sauce. We were also given a little pasta concoction, some fritters, and some cheese that they actually set on fire in a cast iron pan right there at the table. Both the fritters and cheese were special I tell you. Our last stop was for dessert at a place called Ted's Bulletin Family Restaurant. Here we were given a pop tart if sorts flavoured with caramel. I definitely would like to come back to all four of these restaurants and eat full meals for sure. I definitely would recommend this food tour to tourists and natives alike. My secret to yelping Eastern market! I took a tour here last fall, and let me tell you that they helped me get the most out of Eastern Market! I discovered where kimchee, baklava and spanikopita, hamantashan, half smokes, cheeses, empanadas, cornichon and pate...definitely didn't need dinner after all the samples! The vendors were all super friendly and friendly with the hosts. I highly recommend coming on a weekday instead of during the hectic Saturday/Sunday period for a tour, since that will give you a little more face time with the Calomiris or Paik matriachs (both produce sections). The cheese guy will be a little less aloof, but I can't promise anything. Our host was very knowledgeable and friendly and it was very easy to meet up and find them. Hope this startup does well! Now if only he could get me an Eastern Market grocery bag.... Also, may I suggest a food truck tour? Or a happy hour food tour? read more

There's a reason DC Metro Tours only has 4 and 5 star reviews. These guys know what they're doing, and they do it well. We took the Old Town Alexandria tour. I will spare you the play-by-play, and instead sum it up in here: delightful. Kate was our tour guide. She's smart, nice, and knows an impressive amount about Alexandria. (As a result of this tour, so do I.) It's true that I am something of a nerd for history and architecture, and a foodie to boot. But anyone with a free afternoon and an empty stomach would enjoy this tour. A few tips: Let them know dietary restrictions ahead of time. My fiance and I both have some and it was no big deal. They're used to it and can easily accommodate. Be ready to buy drinks. We had beers at the first restaurant and split a Sazerac at the second (Columbia Firehouse -- their mixologist is amazing!) Wear walking shoes and bring a hat. You'll spend a lot of time outside. (And feel less guilty about all the delicious things you're eating.) read more

We just did the old town Alexandria food tour. Our tour guide Wayne was very informative. However the food was disappointing. The first stop Italian was good spinach ravioli with bread. After that it went down hill quickly. The second stop was a crab soup with so much salt it was Terrible. Half the table did not eat the soup. The third stop with Just a couple plates of dips and empanadas to share between 12 people. The final stop was a cupcake which was good. Not a good representation of what the town has to offer. And not a good return on investment. Expected more with all the great reviews. We have done a lot of food tours. So we knew about what to expect. read more

It was a pleasant Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures were in the 70s. The breeze was comforting and the sun was shining. It was a perfect afternoon for any sort of touring. We were all greeted by a friendly and personal tour guide, Christian. He knew his history, was very well spoken and was cool to talk on a personal level. I'm only reviewing this tour based on the quality of the tour guide. The various items at each restaurant were hit or miss but were overall decent. If you are even thinking about doing one of these tours, you have to do it! My parents were in town from CA and mentioned that that they would like to try Ethiopian Food. So I signed us up to take the Little Ethiopian tour. Then, after all we did in DC while they were here the food tour is all they kept talking about. I will say my mother was not the biggest fan of all the food (because you have to eat with your hands) but at the same time she loved all the historic facts about the culture and where the food came from. On the flip side, my father could not get enough of the beef tibs at the third location we toured. Our guide Chris, was very knowledgeable about the area/food/culture but also had a friendly disposition and made everyone on the tour feel at ease. I've lived in DC for more than 5 years now and after all the tours I've taken/sites I've seen, DC Food Tours is at the top of my list. read more

I took a tour of Old Town Alexandria about a month ago. I had no clue I didn't know anything about my backyard. The restaurants were NOT the highlight of the tour. Yes, it is a food tour and the places they take you are good but it's the tour and the history you learn along the way are way more exciting...the food is the cherry on top. In Old Town they took us to 4 different restaurants to try appetizers and desserts and coffee/tea toward the end of the tour. Old Town is a great place to visit for history buffs and those like me who are NOT history buffs but like to know random facts. I had no clue the stones that dot parts of the streets in old town were meant to be used as stepping stones for those getting out of their carriages. It was a small, intimate group. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very personable, the food choices were good and all served on time. We kept to the schedule but allowed to deviate a bit and spend more time at one place over another so be prepared to go with the flow. I expected a 2 hour trip and it was almost 4 hours. You don't even realize you're walking most of the time. We had a wonderful time and want to do others in the near future. read more

My girlfriend and I signed up for the Capitol Hill Culinary Experience. As you can see by the rating, this was a total success from top to bottom. Our tour struck the right balance of fun/educational without turning into a grind. Here are the details. The tour consists of 4 restaurants in the Cap Hill area. The restaurants are all within 1/2 a mile of each other. In total, we walked a bit over a mile. Our restaurants were: 1. Capitol Hill Tandoor & Grill - Anglo-Indian fair. Food 3.5/5 2. Cave Mezze DC - Greek. Food 4/5 3. Las Placitas - El Salvadorian. Food 2/5 4. Zest Bistro - quick dessert, bread pudding 4/5 I do not mean to review these restaurants because this was just a sampling of what the establishments had to offer. Plus, we are not ordering our own food. The fair is chosen beforehand to facilitate a quick and efficient encounter. The portions were surprisingly hearty considering we had 4 on the agenda. I was approaching full by the end of #2. It's important to pace yourself on this tour. Tour Guide: Andrew - enthusiastic, well-spoken, informed, upbeat, approachable foodie. He did a great job guiding 11 people to 4 restaurants in 3.5 hours. Totally worth the money. We've done 2 free tours by foot, and the quality of the tour guide went up substantially on this tour. Anyway, we were guided through a tour of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. The tour was a nice pace and packed with entertaining and informative pearls of knowledge. The tour is smartly organized. They don't try and cover too much ground. They do a lot with the square footage the company decided to cover. As mentioned, it found a nice balance between fun, educational and exertion. I fully recommend this tour. The food might not blow you away, but it was a fun and diverse experience peppered with history and interesting information about the neighborhood. read more

We really should have tried this earlier in our vacation, as we had a really nice time! We took the Old Town Alexandria Food Tour. We walked all around Old Town Alexandria. Our guide, Leslie, was extremely knowledgeable. There were 10 of us in the tour, some locals, others not. The locals said they learned some new facts about Alexandria that they had not known. We (tourist) definitely learned about Old Town Alexandria. Along the tour, we stopped, as Leslie (our guide), told us interesting stories and facts about various houses and buildings. We saw one of the two remaining cobblestone streets in Alexandria (but I won't mention the name, as you need to take the tour to learn that). We also learned what the "purple door" meant back in colonial time. If you want learn what those meant, please take the tour. Oh, where is the food you ask? We stopped at four different restaurants along the tour, and were treated to four different meals, one of which was dessert. Dessert was the Jelly Cake - again, you'll find out more about this cake when you take the tour. By the way, it was Yummy! Would we recommend DC Metro Food Tours - YES!!!! They offer other tours for other areas in DC. We are planning on other vacations to the area, and will definitely take more of the DC Metro Food Tours. Maybe they can come out west too? We took the DuPont Circle food tour today and had an absolutely wonderful time! Having stayed in this area before, we have visited a few restaurants and bars around the circle, but were looking forward to trying new things! Our tour guide, Roxanne, was articulate, knowledgeable and personable. The three goals of the tour were to eat great food, learn something new and have a good time. We accomplished all three! Loved the history, loved the stops and the whole experience seemed like a well-oiled machine. At each stop we had tables waiting for us and food/drink was served immediately. It was a great balance between walking from place to place and sitting trying new dishes. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone! We recently visited DC and were looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon when my wife discovered this little gem: a tour of DC's Eastern Market. We met our guide, Elise (sp?), just outside the Eastern Market metro station, and she walked us to the actual market while giving us an introduction to its history and what it provides today. Once inside we visited each major vendor, where we were presented with an interesting item or two to taste plus history of both that vendor and more information about the market itself. This was a really interesting way to experience the market, because it wasn't one long, dry lecture; rather, it was a series of short discussions about various aspects of the market, with plenty of food mixed in. The food was excellent, by the way. Any worries I had about a "tasting" turning out to be just a few appetizers quickly disappeared - we left stuffed, barely able to try the dessert! I believe the list of items varies a bit from tour to tour, but here's what we had just for reference: Kimchi Beef Bulgogi Three types of cheese Greek dates Turkey/cheddar Jerky An enormous hot dog (the "half smoked") Chicken empanada with raisins Dolmades (greek: grape leaves stuffed with rice and seasonings) Two pieces of rugelach for dessert Our guide also provided bottles of water and slices of bread to serve as "plates" and palate cleansers. All in all, we very much enjoyed the tour. Our guide was excellent (very outgoing and knowledgeable), the food was great (and plentiful!), and the price was very reasonable for what we received. We toured the Eastern Market and everything with DC Metro Food Tours was professional and well organized. The guide was knowledable, friendly and professional and they had it down to every detail...bottled water (which I forgot to bring) and hand sanitizer before we started out. Great review of the history of the Market, and excellent choices for the vendor stops. I was stuffed by the end of this tour! They are very accomodating, responsive and customer service oriented and even made special arrangements for vegetarians. Great fun! Great food! Great service! read more

I enjoyed the tour and the tour guide. It was sooooo hot that day. the food was delicious. I think I was expecting something somewhat more upscale than what we we experienced. I also would have preferred more opportunities for cocktails/wine pairings along the way. The guide was super nice and informative. Georgetown was beautiful. read more

We booked a tour of Adams Morgan and had a wonderful experience learning the history of the area and sampling some of the local restaurants! Gerson was our tour guide and he was knowledgeable, accommodating, and an all around awesome human being. The tour included stops at four different restaurants, and we were stuffed by the end of the second. Every restaurant we stopped at included fantastic vegetarian options for the non-meat eater in our group. This would be a great gift for those who new to the area. Tip: If Gerson recommends ordering a Brazilian beverage, then order the suggested Brazilian beverage :) read more

CAPITOL HILL TOUR: A pretty good food tour - a healthy mix of good food with generous portions and our wonderful tour guide Rachel. I have something I need to admit...I really love food tours. Yes I know it's touristy, and I live here so I could just do my own, but there's something about visiting 4-5 restaurants with a group of strangers that I seem to enjoy. So here we are, on my fourth tour this time of Capitol Hill. We left promptly at 2PM and was out until 6PM, visiting four restaurants: 1. Capitol Hill Tandoor & Grill - Mulligutawny Soup & Chicken Jalfrezi 2. Cava Mezze - Tapas of saganaki, roasted brussels sprouts, pita with hummus, and lamb shoulder 3. Las Placitas - Salsa, chips, sour cream, refried beans, platanos, yuca fries, carnitas (beef), pupusas 4. Zest Bistro - Bread pudding Overall the food was all pretty good and our tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable about the area. I guess the only negatives are (1) you only visit four restaurants, although you do receive quite a bit of food and (2) the restaurants you go to are generally 3-3.5 star places. And although it's the Capitol Hill food tour, we were in Eastern Market the whole time. So a little all over the place for $55 a person, but if you're into this sort of thing it's money well spent. read more

I gotta say, this was a fun way to spend the afternoon in DC. I have lived here for about 4 years and thought I had done a decent job of exploring the city. However, after going on this tour, I realized there is a lot more exploring I need to do. Our tour guide Natalie was fantastic! She really had a passion for history and knew how to make it interesting. My wife and I didn't even notice that 3 hours had passed. For anyone new to the area, or someone who has lived here most of their life, I think you would find something out about your city that you might not have known. I highly recommend these guys and hope they do well. Oh, and the food was great at all the locations we visited! Almost forgot to mention that. :) read more

It rare that I've experience an activity that combines 2 of my favorite subjects so well as this tour did, but food and history shared the stage. We had a wonderful mix of foods, Italian, fresh Fish, Lebanese and amazing sweets. Now, I know those may not appear to flesh, but they were spaced out enough at 4 different locales that my palate was cleansed. Now for the History portion. The first meal was in a colonial tobacco warehouse and the fresh fish in a colonial Firehouse! We also saw George Washington's church and sat in his pew and we did a quick walk through of the Old Torpedo Warehouse that is now full of Art. This was a quick overview of Olde Alexandria and our guide, Jennifer, was fun and knowledgeable. She read the vibe of our group well and I are recommend her and this tour! read more

I have now been on two food tours(Eastern Market and Little Ethiopia) thanks to groupon! The tour guides were both pretty knowledgeable and very comfortable with speaking with a small group of 12-15 people. I thought it was a fantastic way to experience new food in places I didn't know much about. On the Little Ethiopia tour, we walked (very short distances) to each restaurant which was a great way to let our food settle and make room for more! This was my first time really having Ethiopian food and I thought it was a great way to sample a little bit of everything. We saw a traditional coffee service and our tour ended with dessert. I now feel comfortable going to Eastern Market for a half-smoke or going to U street for Kitfo. I am a fan and suggest it for people visiting the area or locals! read more

Tour: Capitol Hill Guide: Andrew Great tour! Growing up in the area, I've been to Eastern Market but never really "toured" Capitol Hill, which is a great area and definitely exceeded my expectations! It was a perfect day out too which didn't hurt. We went to an anglo-indian restaurant, a greek restaurant (cava mezze - a chain, but this location was really a sit down restaurant versus a bistro), zest american bistro (greatest meal here, an american meal, of all places!), and lavange (sp?) which was one of those italian restaurants that like to think they can homemake everything themselves. The last stop was for desert, which was tiramisu. I think the area and the tour guide really made this tour. Being a food lover, going to 4 restaurants in a great area was ideal. The whole tour is pretty much small plates, intermixed with light walking and some history snippets from Andrew which was really cool. Overall, I definitely recommend! Even if your a tourist or have been around the area for a long time, it's a great way to see a part of town your not familiar with and eat some good food! read more
