I had to try a ghost tour in Alexandria because it is spooky season. Obviously I took this tour in October, so the tour group sizes were large but that is to be expected for October. The tour itself was great, our tour guide took us to four different locations near King Street. The stories weren't too scary, so you could probably take older children. Our tour guide was loud enough that even though our group was large we could still hear her. She was also very engaging in her story telling. The price of this tour was also great at just $15. I definitely want to come back and do another ghost tour with them. read more

Amazing tour!! Jimmy was amazing and made it fun for all ages!! I would totally do this again (we did the south tour but I would love to come back and do the north too)! Great tour on June 7th with Gabe! He told us the history of several sites, and he had a wonderful way of storytelling. I'm neutral on the existence of ghosts and have typically found ghost tours to be less spooky and more of an interesting history lesson. This tour definitely told history that made me feel saddened for the deceased and their families, but also uneasy as the happenings could not be explained away. This was a really cool tour! Only about an hour long, it took us to some possibly haunted sites around Old Town. Our tour guide, Emma was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her presentations of each site and explanation of local history and lore. Definitely got eerier as the night went on. This is a locally owned company and you can tell they really put a lot into what they do. I highly recommend one of their tours for something different! read more

We were incredibly disappointed with this tour. Lillian seems friendly but it's very clear that this is either extremely new to her or that she needs extra support from this company's leadership team. She got flustered whenever something unexpected happened around us. Her storytelling was confusing and it was difficult to hear her. She corrected herself several times and kept repeating the same filler words. It was very clear when there was a new paragraph in her script, because she'd pause for several seconds. It felt like she was repeating other people's storytelling styles and jokes instead of making it her own. Lillian would consistently start talking before the full group had walked over, and we had to repeatedly ask her to repeat things we missed. It was frustrating to sit through her imagined conversations between people in the stories rather than just listening to her tell the facts of the story. It added extra time to each story that went beyond entertaining and turned into unfocused ramblings. It would have been nice if we had learned more about the history of certain areas, and if Lillian had been more clear about why we were at certain places. During her Short Jack segment, we just sat on a wall and listened to her tell the story, but she never mentioned which part of the street it happened at or why it was significant. There were multiple times we stood in silence while waiting to cross the street. Guides should be equipped with anecdotes or historical facts to pull out in situations like these. We were also surprised and disappointed that the tour only had 4 stops in 1.5 hours- the street outside of City Hall, Gadsby's Tavern, a street for Short Jack, and a church cemetery. We spent over 20 minutes outside of Gadsby's Tavern. Most of our tour group had seemingly checked out and lost focus. There was a major lack of engagement and Lillian didn't seem to notice or adjust. When you're traveling and book a ghost tour, you expect to learn new and exciting stories that aren't easily Google-able. As is, the stories and the stops seem like they're pulled from a "Top 4 List of Alexandria Haunted Spots" type list. It felt like we could have done the tour ourselves with a quick search. Moreover, Lillian got facts wrong and didn't even tell some of the stories accurately. We also wished Lillian had showed more respect when we were in the cemetery. It was inappropriate and uncomfortable when she made the joke about the skeletons being "bone soup" beneath us. I understand wanting to tell jokes, but these are real individuals who lived real lives. Guides should not be mocking them. We were also put off by her putting her lantern on the raised grave and letting kids lean on it. It seemed careless, but given the carelessness of the rest of the tour, I don't know why I'm surprised. I feel like this would have been a better experience with a different tour guide. It's hard when someone is learning a new skill, and there's a certain amount of grace that must be given with the learning curve. But your company should pair new guides with experienced ones to provide support and hands-on training for them, both for your new guides' confidence and your customers' satisfaction. When you provide a service that folks pay for, you must put the customer experience ahead of the tour guides' feelings. As is, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending this tour to anyone. We didn't learn anything, but I guess it was nice to walk around. read more

Loved Grace, our guide. She was bubbly and entertaining and we had a great time learning some of the local lore on this one hour tour. Lots of interesting and colorful tales. My only regret was that she forgot to remind us to leave the ghosts in the graveyard. The next thing we touched was the car and Siri was messed up all evening! Thanks for a great time! read more

The ghost tour was pretty disappointing. The stories and content of the tour aren't scary or spooky at all, but I did enjoy the overall walking tour of checking out the amazing colonial architecture of the area. The staff and guide were very friendly and genuinely passionate about their work, so I'll give them that. But if you're hoping to experience something more scary and Halloweeney, manage your expectations. Not bad for $15, but wouldn't do it again. read more

Wow wow wow. What a fun tour. We had Jimmy on the North route tonight. First, Alexandria is just so historic. Colonial building, cobblestone streets and no level sidewalks to be found. Jimmy was definitely the star of the show. His delivery is so spot-on for a ghost tour. The stories are all believable. The tour was east to book, and the company was great to work with when we had to adjust the date of the tour. The tour itself was good and our tour guide was excellent. We took the tour on Halloween weekend, so Alexandria itself was a bit nutty, but the guide did a great job competing with the chaos. I would recommend not doing it on the Friday or Saturday before Halloween if possible, but the company and guides are very good and knowledgeable. read more

This is one of my favorite ghost tours to take! I did one of the in-person tours in Alexandria, and have been on one of the Zoom tours as well, and really enjoyed the various stories told by the guides - each one has a different style, and a different set of stories to tell. The in person guide had a history background and really meshed that well with the ghost stories on the tour, and the Zoom tour had awesome ambiance and was a great way to sit in the dark - no replacement for a campfire tale, but a close second. My boyfriend's job decided to take a group on this Alexandria ghost tour and it was incredible! Don't be fooled by the name colonial tours. The tour is definitely ghostbuster meets US history class. We walked around various spots in Arlington where people died mysterious deaths or strange goings on were hear around town. I'm not sure how accurate any of it actually was, but our tour guide was amazing and really made it believable and enjoyable for everyone involved. It was great being immersed in the towns history and visiting the graveyard where a lot of important historical figures in Virginia were buried. As my first ever ghost tour, it was an amazing experience and I cant wait to do another one next Halloween. Definitely go with the company if you want to plan something for work or want to do something cool with your friends that isn't just a happy hour. read more
