T16: Dduk Mac & Cheese Toppoki
    Anna H.

I've been craving tteokbokki SO badly recently and I was out with some very indecisive friends, so we settled on going to the HMart food court. We got a large dduk mac & cheese toppoki and split it between three people, as well as a popcorn chicken in galbi sauce. The bacon and shrimp were a nice touch, although I wish they had more cabbage! The dish is actually not spicy (contrary to what the order suggests). I wish they didn't put the pot on the metal tray because the food cooled down way faster and the tteokbokki got cold, but it is what it is. Maybe next time we'll just stick it onto the table directly to prevent this issue. Tables can be hard to immediately grab but people move fast so if you wait a little bit eventually a table will clear up. It takes a little time for the food to be ready.

Located in the H Mart food court, this is our go-to place for prepared triangle rice. A favorite with my son, I like that this place prepares it fresh instead of having to purchase already made options. Just not knowing how long it's been sitting out. The service was very slow for some reason, so if you are looking for a quick lunch, be prepared to wait. They do have a self-order kiosk option. Plenty of seating in the food court u less it's a busy weekend. Will be back for more. Enjoy!

Their topokki is always so good!

I come to eat their topokki whenever I come to H Mart. It's always sooo good! Definitely recommend

Got a large Beef Brisket Topokki - perfect for 2 people and it was delicious (& a bit spicy!) we thoroughly enjoyed sharing this large pan of beef, ramen, tteokbokki, shredded scallions, fish cakes, egg & dumplings. The flavor has a nice kick and I definitely needed more water but I wouldn't change the spice level. I also got a Kimchi Triangle rice ball but was too full to eat it! I dream of this now and can't wait to come back to try some of the other flavors. We luckily came on a Saturday around 2pm so it wasn't busy or crowded in the food hall at Hmart so seating was easy to get. We also got a cup of the Mango Ade which was refreshing. They do make your order fresh so we waited maybe 7-10 minutes (which wasn't long, but if you're in a rush and have some frozen Melona popsicles in your shopping cart from Hmart, this may not be the place for you.)

Came here around 11 on a Sunday with friends. Tried the tonkatsu (pork), ddukbbokki tteokbokki or toppoki, as these people call it, and the mango drink. I loved the sweet mango drink. I also really liked all the food I tried. Super good. Great food court for a quick bite before or after groceries!

Found this place in the H-Mart dining area after work. So glad I did! The cheesy tonkatsu is very filling. My only gripes are that the orders take a while, and though it's not the restaurant's fault, the sort of "food court" feel isn't the best ambiance. That being said, I will be coming back as the food itself was very solid!

Ate here after we were done shopping at Hmart and given the food court right inside, it was super easy to eat here. Got a large toppoki from dduk and it didn't disappoint. Good flavor, good mix of ingredients, and good portion. We were able to share easily amongst 2.

T1 & T3 must try! The proportions are big, I do suggest getting only one entree per person and then do family style.

T3. King Squid Topokki (1-2 persons)

Don't sleep on the H-Mart Food Hall food! We came and got the King Squid Topokki since we were craving it and we were not disappointed. It's enough to serve 2 hungry people so it's worth it. It's filled with plenty of rice cakes, fish cakes, and also squid. I also liked that they added some fried dumplings, ramen, and also an egg. They use the long rice cakes so it was super chewy and I loved how crunchy their squid was. I love spicy food and can tolerate a reasonably high spice level, but I thought it was a bit too spicy for me to comfortably enjoy it. Next time, I'll try asking if they can maybe adjust the spice levels? We also ordered the Mango-ade and it was delicious and refreshing! Would definitely return if we are here again!

food is so consistently yummy every time!! highly recommend cheese pokpo chicken tteokboki!

Their signature very long rice cakes "noodles" are unique but very inconvenient since I have to cut them into bite sizes myself haha. I ordered Beef Brisket Topokki. Each topokki dish comes with fried dumplings, fish cakes, cabbage, scallions, ramen noodles, 1/2 boiled egg. Medium serves 1-2 people and large serves 2-3 people. Very spicy but so good. Their (pork cutlets) are very crispy and juicy. Love the sauce that comes with it, but it's also very good with topokki sauce. :)

I loveeee korean tteokbokki so I was very excited to try some from Young Dabang. I ordered Beef Brisket Topokki and Classic Jjajang Topokki. They were both amazing. Beef brisket one was sweet and spicy (not super spicy tho) and the brisket had perfect marbling too. Lowkey the sauce tasted a little bit like the buldak sauce but it was good. I was kind of skeptical of Jjajang Topokki but it was really good to my suprise. I liked it because it was a little spicy so it was different from greasy/regular jjajang. The portion is not that big, so I would say order a large for 2 people. It's a little odd that this restaurant is in the food court section of H Mart, but the perk of that is I was able to add in korean hotdogs to my tteokbokki from Gangnam hot dog which is also in the same food court. I would definitely come again for some more tteokbokki~

Whenever I go to Hmart I always go to the food court. Young Dabang is def the first place I go to since I'm obsessed with their King Squid Topokki. The squid is so tender and crispy while the topokki is super long a chewy. This is such a well balanced dish since it brings on the heat, sweetness, and savoriness all at the same time. It says it feeds 1-2 people but it can definitely feed 3! The only thing that I didn't like was how hard the hard boiled egg was but then again I don't really like eggs. Also the guy who operates the front is soooo nice. Every time I go there her brings out the food to my table. It's such a small but really nice gesture and it shows he cares for his customers.

Food was a mixed bag. We started with the yuk hae and mandu, which were solid but not particularly memorable. A note for the mandu was that it came out soggy and sat in water which was a bit disappointing for the price point. The meat quality was excellent though, with great marbling throughout the meal. The banchan leaned lighter in seasoning than I'm used to, but the broccoli and marinated quail eggs were standouts. I also appreciated the variety of salts served alongside the meats. My favorite was the volcanic salt! Service was where things fell short. We felt rushed or almost transaction for most of the meal, and it seemed like closing duties took priority over the guest experience. Tea refills took a while, banchan refills had to be requested multiple times, and there wasn't much guidance throughout the grilling experience. We had to ask what cuts we were eating and what each salt was. At this price point, I expect a little more storytelling and attention to detail. The grill also ran extremely hot, making it easy for some cuts to cook past our preferred temperature and constant smoke blew into the middle seat's face. A few tips: don't wear your nicest clothes because the ventilation isn't on the same level as Seoul Prime or Ingle. Make a reservation if you want a grill table, and don't be afraid to ask for banchan refills!! Would I come back for Korean BBQ? Probably not. I'd personally choose Seoul Prime or Ingle. That said, I saw several main dishes that looked promising, and I'd be open to giving the restaurant another shot. The foundation is there, but for the price and the hype, I think the overall experience needs a bit more refinement.

Unlike other KBBQ spots, it's not AYCE. Instead, you order combos or a la carte meats, which highlights the quality of what you're getting! For our meal, we ordered a feast of the Chosun Hwaro Combo (Medium), Baekdusan bulgogi, japchae, and bibim naengmyun. The meat quality here is extremely PREMIUM and every bite was super juicy, tender, and packed with flavor! I cannot stop thinking about the Baekdusan bulgogi because it was truly a savory MEAT MOUNTAIN. Our kind server gave us a pro tip to mix the sauce with rice. That completely changed the dish for me! The sauce soaking into the rice made it unbelievably rich and satisfying. I loved that the combos come with steamed egg and soybean paste stew, which were comforting sides alongside all the grilled meat and ban chan (kimchi, radish, etc) already at the table. As for my noodle dishes, I usually never order japchae, but I did and this one ended up being the best japchae of my life. It was PACKED with so many flavorful meat and vegetable toppings. To finish the meal, we got bibim naengmyun, which is my favorite Korean cold noodle dish. It was so refreshing, chewy, and the perfect way to balance out all the grilled meats. Between the amazing high-quality meats, entrees, and thoughtful service, Chosun Hwaro was a memorable meal and definitely a spot I'd return to whenever I'm craving delicious Korean BBQ in Virginia!!
