I did not know this place existed. The other elite yelps brought me in for sure. I was in the area and needed some Korean food! I love this food court inside the hmart. So on to the food review. I ordered the King Squid topokki. The squid was lightly battered and fried. Cooked to a perfect tenderness. I drenched it into the sauce just because. I mean come on, it's topokki sauce right? I soaked the half of the boiled egg into it also. Btw I love the little fish cake stuff that comes with topokki. There was just enough ramen noodles added to be a tease. The sauce was spicy and just right for my palate. The ramen was also cooked to perfection. The correct al dente made it super slurpable. It comes with 2 fried dumplings. They are filled with vermicelli noodles. Sitting on top of the dish made them a bit soggy but good anyway. Half way through the meal, and the review and it's just so good I can't stop eating. The boiled egg is boiled to a nice yellow yolk and now that it's soaked in the sauce, I devoured it. For the final review on the actual topokki itself, I was very very impressed. They provide scissors to cut into bite size pieces but forget that noise. If you can get it to your mouth with the chopsticks, you teeth will cut through it with ease. So tender. So amazing. So delicious! You do not want to get addicted to topokki cause I'm sure it's not super healthy but I bet it's better for you than a donut! I have almost devoured the medium serving myself. I'll probably save the last 2 strands for later! Wanna boil another egg later to sop up this sauce. If you like spice, leave the sauce alone. Do NOT ask for a milder version. It's just right. For $11 I was shocked by the amount of food I was served! Ordered the beef brisket toppoki, excepted a bowl and was served a wok. The fried dumplings are absolutely amazing! The filling is super full and juicy, next time I'll consider just getting that as a dish if possible. The tteokbokki (sticky rice cake) served was a bit too long for ease of eating; wish they cut it in smaller chunks. The beef was a bit on the drier side, but overall very savory. This place is extremely busy. There are so many restaurant, but young dabang restaurant is the only restaurant that has a long waiting line. It was the first time for me to visit a tteobokki place, and the menu chart was unfamiliar and confusing for the first time visitor. I'm thankful for the cashier being patient with me and kind enough to explain the menu. The food came almost right after we ordered. Food could've been hotter and less sweet, but my husband loved the food. It was very pleasant experience to eat there. And I would give my thanks to the cashier being fast and kind to me. I went here today and I order the pork ramen and im allergic to spicy food and it wasn't stated on any of the menus that it would be spicy. I paid $20 for something I can't eat and when I took it back they couldn't change it or give me something different. I would have paid the difference for another order but they didn't even give me that option. The service was poor as the hostess gave no solutions to the food problem. When looks are deceiving...that's exactly what this meal was. I ordered the beef brisket tteobokki with the side order of their garlic butter fries to share between my friend and I. The portion was HUGE, so were the rice cakes...they weren't cut so you're basically eating thicc and long noods. The rice cake to ramen ratio was overwhelming too, but that may be a personal preference. The sauce had a good spice kick but wayyy too sweet, as if they mistaken the sugar for salt. Too sweet!!! I like sweet but this is way over the top. The spiciness masks the sweetness for a bit but after a few bites it becomes unbearable .Presentation is great, not a lot of food. For those who know about Korean food/cooking, this place, simply put, overuses vegetable broth. The sweetness from the vegetables works ok at best for ddukbokki, but just no (please no!) for the fishcake soup. Plus, the fishcake soup (oden/uhmook tang) was half filled with cabbage and carrots...absolutely sacrilegious! No, please no, I don't want sweetness from vegetables invading my oden tang. I give them a pass for the use of dried squid for the fried squid and the small quantity (fried squid) considering the price, but the sweetness can be an issue with some. I won't mind trying the ddobokki again (not fried squid) just because its different from ddukbokki you get elsewhere in Nova (yes, many places in Korea do serve this variation of ddukbokki). I'd stay away from the fishcake soup. read more

When they first opened this place definitely was bad- it would close at random times throughout the day, dduk wasn't cooked so it would be hard, and all the dduk was cut into small pieces which is not what was shown on the menu... those were just a few of the issues... however as time has passed and they've settled in, the food has become very consistent and now looks like how they are advertised. The wait time has also gone down significantly from 40 minutes to about 10-20 depending on the day. As for the ddukbbokki, I will preface this by saying every business has their own version of the sauce. Just because it doesn't suit your taste doesn't mean it's bad-- it just means this isn't your style. The sauce here is definitely sweet so if you don't like sweeter ddukbbokki this place is not for you.. just walk away. That being said I don't mind it and it reminds me of some places I've had in Korea as well. I've had the beef brisket, chicken, and squid and I think they're all good. The portion sizes are very generous so if you're trying a couple places in the food court with a group of three, the smaller size may be sufficient. We've also had the add on fried rice and that's good too- let me disclaim by saying that is also on the sweeter side but I think it's because of the mixed in seaweed... if you go to the seaweed aisle of hmart and buy the seaweed bags that are used as rice mix ins (or even Japanese furikake) you can try that separately and you'll find out that the seasoning is sweet-- that's where this sweetness is likely coming from in the fried rice. A lot of korean snack foods tend to run sweet than savory (korean chips, korean fried chicken, bulging, spicy pork, kimbap stuffing, etc)... my people just like sugar. So it's no surprise ddukbbokki is also a sweeter dish. That being said if you're good with that then this place is one of the better ddukbbokki places in nova and their dduk is chewy and delicious. It is wayyyy too sweet for tteokbboki. Yes, they are hip and trendy with all the different options that they provide but let me tell you, it's way too sweet. it overpowers everything. Also, their fried toppings are pre-fried so it's all soggy. Their garlic butter fries are soggy af. I had squid one before and since it was pre-fried, it was chewy, tough, and had bitter taste. For the beef brisket, only 1/3 was edible. 2/3 was too tough to chew so I had to spit it out. Their dumplings taste like Bibigo pork frozen dumplings so nothing special about it. Their price is very reasonable tho. For the medium size, it's enough for two ppl. It's good to share with friends and family. read more

There are 2 kinds of Korean spicy rice cake. 1) street food - vendors make these a big pan and sell by little portion on demand; and 2) restaurant food - these are cooked by order in an individual pan and served with toppings. This place is more like overpriced fast food. Their teokboki is more like food 1) served in an individual pot with toppings so that it looks like 2). This ddukbokki place is very mediocre. The prices are fair as we paid around $15 for a two people. However, the menu items are odd - there isn't a plain ddukbokki option. They have chicken, omelet, meat, and other mixed combos of ddukbokki. The sauce was really watered down and not spicy enough. The dduk (rice cake) was overly cooked and it was ripping in half when we got our dish. We ordered the chicken cheese combo and the chicken tasted like frozen chicken popcorn chicken you can buy at Costco. Honestly, for a place that only sells ddukbokki, it was overly hyped and I can make something much better at home. Would not recommend this place. read more
