I got candy on Friday and they tasted like soap so I called the people on Francis on Friday evening and they told me to bring them back. On the basis of a friends advice, we came in for lunch. After waiting for 5 minutes to prove to the mgr that my GFs dog s a service dog, we ordered our food. I ordered a two taco meal. What I got I wouldn't give to a homeless soul. The Mexican rice was dry and virtually flavorless, something that I haven't experiences in any other Mexican restaurant in Spokane. The pork taco was cubed, not shredded (granted, I thought it would be shredded, since I have never seen cubed pork in a taco before), and the favoring was a weird hybrid of Mexican/barbeque/Chinese, and dry. The chips that we had were crisp, if you like to eat deep fryer fat with a bit of corn chip and salt. The shredded beef taco was actually good...if you dismiss that is was go greasy that it soaked through the flour tortilla. When the refried beans are the highlight of the meal, IMHO, then something is wrong. Either we went to the wrong restaurant, they had a VERY BAD day, or we are two gringos who are simply impossible to please,...either way, will not revisit this establishment. read more

So excited to find fresh tortillas, tamales, and good source of Mexican groceries. I am not a fan of Tex-Mex as have spent more time in Sonora, Mexico. My test to authenticate is in the Chili Relleno. It was perfect, so was the tamale, green chili salsa and the rice and beans. I like several things about this place. First of all, I really like their tamales. They aren't quite as good as Mercedes in Yakima, but they are tasty. They will give you a discount if you buy a dozen. I also like their salsas and hot sauces. And their horchata was one of the best I've ever had. This place is fairly authentic! Came to Spokane to visit family. Thought I'd come in to check it out and look for some real Mexican vanilla. All they had was the usual blended stuff. This is just your regular Mexican food store. About as close as you will get carneceria in Spokane. I take that back, it is what I would consider a carneceria, a place where you can buy meat/groceries and also have a meal. For here or to go, they serve the common Mexican faire that most would be familiar. No cabesa, lengua, etc. for those looking for exoctic meats. What they do have is delicious. Carnitas, asada, mole and the Chili Colorado are all items I have tried and they are spot on. Order at the the counter and seat yourself in an open seating area. They make there own tortillas, salsa and a few other items for sale to take home. They also have a variety of mexican bakery and pastries as a finishing touch to your meal. read more

I ordered 3 items for myself and co worker using Uber eats. Received two of the three items. I submitted a complaint to Uber eats. Then called de Leon's to explain and get an explanation. No " I'm sorry" or we can reorder you your missing item and get it to you. Instead she laughed and proceeded to tell me about a large order they messed up on earlier. Good food. DeLeon's rocks! I have been going back all the time since my last review but wanted to write this update now that it is summer. I have discovered their meat market which is tucked away in the back of the store (in the Francis St. location). They have raw meats that are pre-marinated and perfect for barbecuing. I just got some Carne Asada the other night when I was having a couple friends over and it was amazing!!! Everyone should try it! I love this place. Just thought I would give everyone the heads up now that it is nice out. read more

When I first moved to Spokane I heard people raving over this place, I heard it was a good spot to get authentic Mexican food and yes it was authentic, but it didn't make it good. I guess coming from California makes me a harsh critic since mexican food is everywhere over there, easy as getting burgers and fries but I honestly think that the food is just okay if you need a quick mexican food fix. I've tasted better mexican food and I can honestly say that there are better mexican food spots in Spokane already that put this place to shame so I suggest you do some research find some better places. Places are coming up and De Leon really isn't the quality I was looking for. One good thing I can say is they do have a variety to choose from. read more

Fabulous! I spent the bulk of my life in California with trips to Mexico. I almost wept when I walked in to find the traditional bakery cases filled with authentic pastries. Real horchata. And a good typical menu. Piles and piles of fresh tortillas - you can watch them make them. And the tamales are perfect. I will come here often when I crave real Mexican!!! read more

We are new in Spokane and having just moved here from SoCal, were looking for something close to authentic. I think we found it at DeLeon's II at the corner of Sprague & Sullivan. Friendly but not real efficient service. Chips were so-so. They had a salsa bar, but 2 of the 3 salsas were nearly empty. However, the food was excellent and very close to what we were used to in SoCal. I thought we got a lot of food for our money. In fact we both saved about half our orders as leftovers and ate them the next night, so very inexpensive. I had the chicken enchiladas and my wife had the chicken la crema. We will be back! Best Mexican food in Spokane!! I am Mexican, and recently moved here from Southern California, and this is the best Mexican food you will find in Spokane. It sucks that it is a deli/cafeteria but it still gives you a taste bud explosion! The flavors are great! The downtown location isn't as great as the deli on Francis. De Leon's tortillas and sopes are so, so, so good!!! I love buying carne asada from them to make it myself at home! It is my little piece of Mexico in Spokane. read more

Yeah no. Where to begin. De Leon has delicious food, but their service is so bad I will never go again. If you order food at the restaurant/deli good luck it will probably be royally messed up. The way their restaurant flows is so inefficient I don't know how they get a single order correct. I order the same thing every time, but the price seems to always be different. Recent experience recap (reason I wont go back), list of things they did incorrectly... 1) I was given incorrect change when I paid for my food and it took forever to convince the De Leon employee that she was shorting me $10. 2) I was with a coworker and we were getting multiple orders for other people at work, so we asked for our food to go. It came out on plates. 3) We asked for crunchy tacos...all were on soft tortillas 4) Finally we received our food in to go containers, good thing we double checked though because we were missing an entire meal. 5) We asked for sour cream, which is $1 extra per side, no sour cream to be found in our order. 6) While we where waiting for our food we witnessed a De Leon employee stick her ungloved bare hand into the giant vat of Horchata to mix up the ice, then ladled up a glass to serve to another patron! We walked out of there in shock from how disorganized, inefficient and unsanitary De Leon Food is vowing to never go back no matter how good those freaking chicken tacos are! read more

I loved that they made TAMALES! Hard to find them fresh and authentic. When we were ordering my lungs were burning and I want to say it was from the jalapeños that they had made as a dish. Too funny how breathing in a dish near by can do that to someone. My whole family enjoyed a style of Mexican food we had never experienced in the U.S. before. I go to the De Leons off Francis that is a grocery store/eatery, and they never let me down really. I love the Mole and carne asada. My roomie loves the chimi's and we have yet to go in for breakfast but the menu looks great. They are always nice and friendly at this location, and willing to answer questions and substitute things for you if needed. Treat yourself to some of the deserts in the back, you will love them! Also, take home some fresh Chorizo from deli case, they know what they're doing. It is delicious and fairly priced. read more

There are tons of options here when grocery shopping AND even tons of options for eating! Their ice cream bars are delicious, the people here are amazing, and their tamales are THE BEST I've ever had! My family always gets a huge bag full and freezes them. This review is strictly for the new location on the south hill. If you're looking for a restaurant with great food and good service, this is NOT the place. In fact is you're looking for mediocre service, this is not the place. Ordered a mojito which arrived without alcohol or flavor. Tasted like mulled mint in tonic water. Sent it back and they did fix it but it arrived well after everyone else's, and still not tasting right (in fact a second round was ready before my rendered first round arrived.) Sat ourselves in bar where we waited 45 minutes for our one appetizer after placed. Food was bland for my taste and my preference is more bland than others. Requested pico de Gallo to go with the tortilla chips which arrived in a container smaller than that of a side of salad dressing. After a total of sitting an hour and 45 mins at the bar, (there were only two other people at the bar-but really only 7 stools in the bar area anyway) our check finally came and we immediately put payment inside yet waited to be passed over by 2 "to go" orders and 3 drink orders for about 15 minutes just waiting for our change so we could leave. The South hill already has a competing array of restaurants here...unfortunately this one isn't one of them. Save your time and eat at one of the many other mexican restaurants here on the hill that has proven better service and more flavorful creations both traditional and new. read more

I am sorry to say I think this place is over rated and overpriced. Yes the fresh made tortillas are worth it if you are in the area but other than that not much else. On a recent trip after a friend informed us of this place we stopped in one morning. My wife ordered the Menudo and I will say it was pretty good. But $9 for a bowl of stomach lining and stock? I think it is about $4 too much. I had the Chorizo burrito for $5 and you would have had to use a magnifying glass to actually find any egg or meat in it. This burrito was all rice and beans. I cannot stand Mexican places that go out of there way to over charge and then also screw you on the amount of the main ingredients and use rice and beans to fill the burrito. I suggest if one really wants great tasting and huge portions at dirt cheap prices with no rice and bean filler to try Abelardos on Sprague. They are also open 24 hrs for those late night after partying hunger pains. It is worth the drive. And BTW a burrito there is around a pound and about $3.50 for an all meat one such as Carnita's. read more

What a disappointment. We went to the North Division taco bar and grill, and may not ever go back. The place was not busy during happy hour and we soon found out why. First off, the music was overbearing, impossible to carry on a conversation. Secondly the waitress was blunt, unsmiling and inaudible over the music. We asked for blended margaritas and were bluntly told "I don't do blended". We never did find out if that meant no blender or if she just did not want to do it. Then we ordered 3 crispy tacos for taco Tuesday, and the taste was at best meh. Nothing special about the taste of the beef tacos, and the chicken tacos were just bland. And our server never truly engaged us. This Happy Hour had not only strange hours (2-5), but there is nothing for the wine drinkers nor the blended margarita drinkers. There are much better taco Tuesday places with a much wider range of choices. Again a sad disappointment, but a huge opportunity to improve. read more

After driving through Hatch NM several times and missing out on their famous chiles, we finally were able to sample the goods and they were the best I've ever eaten. The group I was with ordered green chile stew, green chile cheese tamales, Carne Asada tacos as well as the usual sides of rice and beans.
