It looked as though we were going to have no choice. We were going to have to replace the shower in our master bath, which looked like it would lead to an extensive remodel. I was having a very hard time even getting a response from any of the contractors I called. The only one that responded was not available for months. Then I logged into Mr. De Marco's website. I was impressed when watching his video that there was something different about this person. He seemed to really care about his clients as well as the quality of his work. I called the number and to my great surprise Mr.De Marco himself answered. He explained to me that his company did large industrial jobs , and jobs like ours were actually something of a hardship for his company to take on. He told me he felt bad having to tell me that. Nevertheless we continued to talk and he shared with me some of the things that were important to him: doing a good job, integrity, and caring for people. He shared with me some of the kind things he had done., not from the standpoint of ego, but to express what was important to him in life. I was honored to listen. He knew that we had had more than one very bad experience with contractors in the past. I thanked him for the time he spent with me, wished him well and said good bye. Bu at that point instead of saying good bye , in his kindness, he said he would look at our project and see what he could do for us. He came over to our house by himself, evaluated our project and gave us a bid. Unfortunately the work was more extensive than what we could afford at this time , and we decided we would have to do it in two phases. But I knew that to accommodate our need to work in two phases would be a hardship for his group, so I thanked him and declined his offer. He agreed that the scale of our project would be very difficult for his company and another company might be a better fit. Now you might think that would be the end of our contacts, but no: he proved true to my perception of his caring and ethics. In our conversation I had mentioned a totally unrelated construction issue we were having. He remembered that and emailed me later, guiding us out of using an expensive company. And he put me in contact with a man that did a excellent job for half the price. And later on he emailed me again with the name of a contractor for our bathroom project he respected highly. We met and liked him very much. It  looks very promising. In this market it is scary to have to have work done by contractors who you have no reliable way of knowing whether or not they will not only do a good job, but will not cause you damage. Mr. Demarco takes great pride in his work and demonstrates integrity and care for those around him. While I can't speak from experience about the quality of his work, that can be easily substantiated by reading the excellent reviews by those he has done work for. But the quality of the work is not the only important component of ones choice. Integrity, honesty, kindness, and a mission to improve peoples' lives may be even more important. In fact it no doubt has a profound impact on the quality of the work. I can speak for the value of these attributes.  And I can tell you that these attributes are very present with Mr. De Marco. And I am so pleased that there are people like this on our planet. I am so pleased I have met one. read more

I first used DeMarco Builders in 2004. Joe DeMarco and his crew were remodeling the house next door to mine and were going to flip the house. I was so impressed with their attention to detail and the finished house. At the time I was looking for a contractor to add a master bedroom and bathroom and to do some other repairs to my home. After seeing Joe's work I hired him to do the work for me. In total, I added 450 sq ft, revamped my old bathroom, and reconfigured the existing 2 bedrooms, and added a small deck. I was and am thrilled with the finished product. Joe and crew worked quickly and gave me the house I wanted. Fast forward to February 2016, I needed my house painted, a window moved, the deck enlarged, and most importantly, my non functional kitchen gutted and rebuilt. I knew that Joe had returned to the Portland area and I was disappointed that he wasn't available to do the work. I contacted him for for some recommendations and he just said, "What do you need done? I will be back in the Long Beach (CA) area for some other business and I would be glad to get the work done for you." I was thrilled! He started on May 2, 2016 and on June 2 everything was done. My old kitchen was small, had only 2 cabinets and little to no counter space. It is still small, 12'x7' wall to wall but the difference in functionality is huge. I really didn't know how to make it work but Joe did! I always say I went from a one butt kitchen to a two butt kitchen with no additional space. Joe De Marco landed in my life completely by accident, and what an amazing stroke of luck that was! I'd been debating making an offer on a house for sale, but it was going to need extensive remodeling before I could move in. And without knowing what was possible, or what the renovations might cost, I wasn't sure what to offer on the house itself or if I could even afford everything I had in mind. Though I've owned two, I really know almost *nothing* about houses--and less about the actual work that contractors do. I was an easy mark, in other words, and Joe could have taken me right to the cleaners! He generously performed the work at cost and went above and beyond by providing the Club with the highest quality of materials, floor to roof, so that the structure stands for decades to come! Joe did all of this for a program that inspires hope and optimism in local youth programming within the actual community he grew up in, in the neighborhood where he and his wife now reside. I wanted a similar shed built on our property on the Clackamas River, but worried that it might be too small of a job to ask DeMarco Construction to take on. Joe did not disappoint! We originally found De Marco Builders from another site but figured they deserved a review on Yelp now that we've seen their final work. Joe and his team are exactly what we expected from a friendly, professional contractor company. He was upfront from the start in what it would take to do the job and was always accommodating when we added requests or made changes to the plan. He is quick in communication (mostly via text) and that worked out great. There were never any surprise charges or corners cut; which was important for our modest but limited budget. His crew was equally as friendly and always left the job site each day clean and manageable - which was important to us as we lived in the house during the construction. Last spring I entered into a contract with DeMarco Construction to remodel my kitchen and add a back porch onto my house. The project ran into the normal problems encountered with an old house. It also uncovered some not normal problems left behind by the rehab company from whom I bought the house. All issues were addressed and corrected. The kitchen is much more functional with a lot of storage space and appliances that work well. The back porch is just what I wanted and has already proved useful for the transition from gardening season to processing produce from garden and readying the gardens for winter. We recently finished a basement remodel with Joe and DeMarco Builders, and they've been incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the process. Although our project was smaller than some of his others, Joe has still made us feel like a priority and always makes time for us. His staff is professional and hardworking, and Joe has a great eye for taking a project from concept all the way through to completed design. Joe and his team are very hardworking, professional, friendly, and pay attention to the little details. The final project costs came in at exactly the agreed upon budget; there weren't any "last minute surprises". Joe is a very honest and caring person. I know of an incident where he saw an elderly man laying on the sidewalk who had tripped and fallen. We hired an architect who drew us a plan that didn't fit in our property. It was for a 2 car garage with an apartment on the second level. It had to match our 1890 victorian. We contacted DM to see if they could help us. they figured how to make it work out by working closely with the city and a civil engineer. They were professional, never late, always in constant contact with us throughout on a daily basis. They were able to finish the project faster than what we expected.
