It was a really fun place to go. Everything was in bright colors. Slow brewed coffee was a new and different experience. Watching the making was half the fun. The only low point was the sitting area. If you cannot find anything in front which is really small and most probably full, in the back has low ceiling and was really small. Wonderful coffee shop! Wish I found myself in this area more often. After much deliberation I ordered a mocha with the spicy hot chocolate mix; the latte art was beautiful and expertly done. My only complaint was that it wasn't hot enough. (I'm not asking for scalding but it shouldn't be cold within 5 minutes!) I would normally deduct a star but I loved this place and will give her the benefit of the doubt. The atmosphere was lovely, wish I had stayed longer. Delicious baked goods. Fun atmosphere! Walking into this place is a treat for the eyes. Everything is unexpected. The walls have small patches of blackboard paint with the menu and tidbits of information. The umbrellas on the ceiling are a piece of work on its own. There are a few tables in the front covered with business cards underneath a glass top. The serving area is not big but it fits two people comfortably. I had a cappuccino which was fairly mild coffee wise. My problem came from my own unexperienced palatte not adding enough sugar that I could only make my way through 3/4rs of it before yelling to myself "NO MORE!" The baked goods on the other hand were incredible! Their blend of ingredients make them full of flavor and at the same time light. I had no problem sharing it with a family member and still feel like I had a good portion. I would definitely encourage anyone in the Yonge/Eglinton area to check this place out and give them a bit of support. They are a refreshing change to the area. read more

I decided to give this place a second try. This time staff was very friendly. They answered all my tea latte questions. I was crossing the door and they were already welcoming me. Solid independent cafe and my go-to when in the Yonge-Eglinton area, as there are not that many good cafes in this neighbourhood. Service is always friendly and their espresso drinks are made with care. They also have a wide variety of tempting baked goods. I'm partial to their cheese croissants. They bake everything in house from the open kitchen in the back and it always smells amazing!! There is a good amount of seating with small tables at the back and a large communal table at the front. Came by on a Saturday afternoon looking for a quiet place to do some work. Luckily found the last table in the back room by an outlet. Most ppl seem to be reading or chatting in the space so there aren't really that many plugs for your electronics. The place is small (only 6 tables in the back?) but people seem to keep quiet and concentrate on their own work. I got a egg frittata with a side salad. The frittata was moist and fluffy, but was warmed up in a microwave so that made in kinda sad. Unfortunately the experience was interrupted by an argument between an employee and a boss over sick time and such drama. There was a long story that I couldn't drown out with my earphones and had to listen to the whole time. They were very loud and the whole cafe could hear their ongoing half-hour argument as they wandered between the front counter and back kitchen. Love it here! The staff is friendly and the interior feels very cozy. The ceiling of the place is adorned with umbrellas and the back with graffiti, and exudes creativity. Great coffee, the pastries are delightful, and also made there. The cappuccinos are huge, bigger than in Most places. We had an almond and dark chocolate biscuit and a chocolate Danish, both great. The style of the place reminds me to kengsinton market, there are graffitis everywhere and lots of color. I will come back for sure. With luck, I found this place not only featured by best coffee in neighborhood-quote a Yelper-has two outdoor tables. Tiny, but enough for me, while I sunbathed beside my dog. Food was good. Great place to grab a coffee and treat on Yonge St. Popped in yesterday evening around 7pm to grab an evening pick me up, and my espresso as per usual was delicious. I especially love this place because it is open till 8pm, there aren't many other coffee shops around the city open that late. I definitely recommend de Mello Palheta to anyone looking for a great coffee experience in Toronto. And as a bonus it is absolutely gorgeous inside, totally instagram worthy! read more

Hipster atmosphere and the cafe can get a bit noisy especially if they're baking at the back. I believe it's one of the few local coffee shops at Yonge & Eglinton with wifi. I try to spend at least a good hour there and use their wifi because I find their beverage prices are not exactly cheap. Their baked goods and other foods taste good, but a bit pricey. They used to have white chocolate on their menu (which I really liked) and I think they put this orange chocolate stick to melt with the beverage. Their washroom is ok, it's just a pain to walk down the super narrow staircase and you can easily bump your head cause the ceiling is not high. read more

I love the coffee here, all the drinks here actually. The Matcha latte is also pretty good. They make really good decaf as well, the decaf is actually enjoyable. You can't go wrong with anyone of the hot drinks here. The croissants are also delicious especially the almond and chocolate croissants. I came here twice, 1st time earlier this summer and I had a blueberry scone and a flat white on their cozy little patio and had a chat with a coupld and their dog. That just adds to the charm, being able to just sit around and enjoy the really really good coffee with some great people to chat with. 2nd time i visited I had the flat white again with a cheddar scone. (As seen in pic) It's not the cheapest coffee join around, but it's the few that know how to do it right. This is one of my top five places in the city to sit, enjoy some coffee, and get some work done. The staff is friendly and the wifi is consistently fast. Their backroom is really fun and funky, and the bar along the window is the perfect size for a small laptop and your coffee. The one downside here is that there really isn't meal-type food here. Walked by many times and went in for the first time today and was happy to find they serve a cortado, which I promptly ordered. While waiting I noticed a bunch of barista trophies and awards so I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed, the first hit of espresso and milk was satisfying - rich taste and blended to the right proportions. The only things that kept it from 5 stars was the slightly acidic aftertaste and lukewarm temperature. I'm not sure if I need to specify that I want it hot but then again it was a hot afternoon so I'm not sure if the barista was catering the outside temperature. De Mello is in my hood and I've been meaning to try it out for quite sometime.now I came here with super high expectations as I've had read that they have the best coffee in town. The place is pretty tiny and it has a very hipster feel to it. There is a common seating area by the window and more small tables at the back of the shop. They have super fancy glass brewing equipment and they roast their beans in house. We tried their filter coffee $5 which takes about 5 mins to make and their slow drip cold coffee $3.5 which drips overnight and is never heated so its supposed to have a subtle sweetness to it. I was not impressed with any of the 2 coffees and do they beat my $2 starbucks coffee? Unfortunately they don't. The food however was reasonably priced and delicious. I had a sweet potato and leak quiche and my companion a thin crust personal pizza. both came with a side of greens and served on a wooden board. Presentation was excellent.! Try their siphon coffee once, they make it in front of you with a steampunk looking Japanese brewer, though it's an old Ethiopian technique of vacuum brewing. Barista was quite open to explaining the different brews and techniques, and apparently they rotate blends every few weeks. They also roast their coffee in house which is a big plus. Siphon coffee tastes very sweet, with a delicate flavour that comes out more when you let the brew cool for a few minutes, and goes well with milk. They experiment with a lighter blend for siphon and pour over, and apparently this is the best one, and I would agree that it's a good intro to siphon brewing. Décor is also good, with a graffiti exterior and interior that's a much appreciated contrast in the neighbourhood. read more

I am shocked I haven't reviewed this place yet since I live so close and love it so much. The coffee is very fragrant and I usually drink it black here (whereas I take it with cream and sugar at other places). It's a bit pricey for coffee (~$6 for the pour-over one) so not somewhere you would go every day to grab a morning cup of joe but definitely a great place to go and catch up with friends or just to enjoy a cup of coffee and a book. Really great cafe, and I would come back again in the daytime when they probably have more selection. That being said, my friends and I tried three items here and they were all delicious. The raspberry green tea square and apricot date square were both tasty, but the standout item was the lemon japonaise (like a meringue cake thing) which had a nice, light, lemony, zesty flavour and was very soft and fluffy. Neither of the other two treats were too sweet, but they were also just a bit more generic. The two girls working here were super sweet and friendly as well, and there is free wi-fi here, so it would be a nice place to chill or work or study for a while. If you're a big fan of coffee I think this is your next stop. In my opinion this is the best coffee area in Yonge and Eglinton. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, they are willing to answer your questions, and always with a smile. The prices are similar to other coffee chains, but more delicious and fresh, and the cafe is calm and cozy. The coffee is my favorite so far, I'm a big fan of espresso, they serve medium roast beans with higher acidity to my liking, just a pleasant bitterness that doesn't overpower the taste, you can tell it is freshly ground and properly made. I love their desserts though I find it a bit expensive, but no harm to give it a try every now and then. I also like the latte and cappuccino they make, no need to add any flavor to make it delicious, you can taste the flavor of the coffee in it which is not true for most of the coffee shops around. I totally recommend this place for people living in the neighborhood, and you can also enjoy their outside on a sunny day. read more

Its not raining anymore on Yonge Street. Close the umbrella and get a good latte topped by a silky froth that gently strokes the roof of your mouth. This place is named after somebody who historically knew what to do with coffee beans. Having been accustomed to "real" cappuccinos, lattes and espressos, I have often been suspicious of places using such names for those beverages. . Finally a refined coffee without a burned or even "angry" aftertaste. The pastries are also made on site and quite delicate. Hopefully the quality will be consistent in the long run. I appoint my 5-Stars with confidence. Recently coffee in Toronto is finally improving, and in general independent cafes are truly helping a lot. read more

Love! Love! Love this place! The ambience here is amazing, the first time we came with a bunch of friends we ordered the Vanilla latte, London Fog and Hot Chocolate. The Hot Chocolate is delicious and comes with a big stick of chocolate (which I dunked into my cup and let melt... OMG!) I did try the Vanilla Latte on my next visit and loved that as well. The flavours are strong and it's not overly sweet. I would definitely recommend this place to go hang out in, strike up a conversation with Oliver who offers great service or bring a book and chill. Solid coffee joint for any discerning coffee snob. I met Felix (one of the partners) at de Mello Palheta and we immediately hit it off after I had asked what beans they were using for their espresso based drinks, to which he replied "we roast our own". Instant coffee badass and credibility points right there (of course I confirmed by going to the back to check out their micro roaster). They've got a brew bar where they serve coffee with different methods outside of pulling espresso shots from their gorgeous Synesso Cynca 3 group machine, some of which include Siphon, cold drip, and my favourite, Aeropress! Admittedly, my palate isn't as developed as a coffee shop owner or roaster for that matter, but they are the real deal and I would go to de Mello Palheta for their coffee if I'm ever in the Yonge / Eglinton area from here on. They're a bit cocky when it comes to their coffee, have a chip on their shoulders with something to prove to the indie coffee scene in Toronto. I think that's a good thing. read more
