I visited a total of 4 vineyards in Willamette Valley. I didn't walk away with any bottles from this particular vineyard given the lack of "wow" factor on the various samples, and because I had to be selective with my choices given that I was flying home. That said, despite none of the samples standing out, this vineyard was by far the most generous of the four with its different samples. I love the kind of places like this where there's a dog or cat running around (in this case, a cat). What I didn't love was the cat hair flying into my glass. But in fairness, the staff asked if I wanted the cat to be removed, which was clearly not the case considering I was petting it so I can't really complain. I recommend dressing warm for this stop. The tasting room was cold, but I almost prefer it that way since heat is a natural killer of wine. read more

We arrived without reservations and were warmly greeted. We're biased towards fuller-bodied pinots and these did not disappoint. The '19 and the '14 reserve pinot noirs were both wonderfully balanced with depth of flavor and just the right amount of tannins. Wines in this area tend to be pricey. So, if you have to forgo a mortgage payment to purchase excellent wine, then these are the ones worthy of the sacrifice. :-) read more

I've been here twice now: once on a weekday and once on the weekend. For covid, you should set a reservation because seating is limited. They have a nice flight for $20 and it is waived of you spend $75. I brought home a Melon bottle and hope to enjoy it some night. The view is beautiful and the setting is serene. I absolutely love this vineyard. I've done many wine tastings in my life and this one was one of my absolute favorite. It's very quaint. It's not your typical "industrial" for a lack of better word; place it's very family owned and absolutely breath taking. You feel like you are in the middle of Tuscany. We had some tasty wines here. The tasting fee was reasonable at $10 per person. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was really laid back the day we tasted and we purchased two bottles of wine. When we purchase the two bottles they waived one fee. This is a bit out of way and off the beaten path but a nice place and I look forward to going back there again. read more

This place is all about the view. Want to see Mt. Hood? Want some heart stirring 'scapes imprinted in your mind's eye. Go here. Want some great pinot and perhaps a friendly, knowledgeable, smooth pourer to boot? It could be hit or miss. This was our first stop on our Dundee Hills/ McMinnville wine tour and it was a great place to warm up. Unfortunately we strolled in at the same time, two big groups piled in to taste as well. There was complete chaos in the tasting room and we were getting rotated through various staff members who couldn't keep up with what we had just had and what was to come next, repetitively. My wine tasting connoisseur counterpart and I, had concluded a majority of the wines were in the "oh that would make a good table wine" category or just straight up unworthy of another sip. In order to comp out our tasting, we decided to pick the best candidates to have shipped back home to Northern California. Our palettes favored the 2011 Clay Hill Pinot Noir, as well as the 2009 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir. According to our wine tour guide, that proved to more help than the attendees behind the counter, '08 & '09 in the Oregon area (which happens to be on the same 42 degree parallel as some of the best regions in France), are bolder, fruit forward, big bodied and masculine right now, and the '10 & '11 Pinots are a lot softer, feminine, and take a little bit more time to open up. I can completely back up this statement and agree with our guide 100 percent! We just opened up the Clay Hill '11 and it took about an hour for it to taste right, meaning, right enough to not throw away. The subtlety of this wine pairs perfectly with something insanely hot or spicy. The wine's complimentary opposition to hot and spicy, creates a cooling, sensation with it's mellow plum-like fruits that ooze all over the four corners or your mouth and tongue, similar to a jello or pudding. Overall, De Ponte had a gorgeous property, and decent wines. I am still looking forward to opening my other bottle of the 2009, which if I remember right, was my favorite. If I was to ever come back to the area, perhaps, I would stop here, maybe I wouldn't; like I mentioned before, the service and wine could be hit or miss. read more

I hadn't been wine tasting in quite some time...years actually...and when living in Oregon with as many large and small vineyards we have around the area you NEED to take some time out to visit at some point. De Ponte was among the first vineyard we stopped at. The gravel road takes you to the top of the hill where their parking and tasting room is...the second I got out of the car I was in awe. The view was impeccable. When entering the tasting room you are greeted by the great staff and a beautiful patio area in the back. For $10 one can try their flight of 4 wines. One white and the rest pinot noir. All were quite good I must say. I loved their 'melon' white wine. Perfectly sweet but not over powering. You definitely got the hints of melon. Each of their pinot's had its own distinct flavor. One sweet with hints of berry, one with hints of spice, and one that was crisp and dry. Our group spent a good amount of time here enjoying their patio and soaking up the rare Oregon sunshine. Bottles of wine here were not overpriced in the least bit and all were great that we tried. Staff was very accomodating to our large group and I certainly recommend coming here. read more

This is my new favorite spot in Wine Country. And that's saying a lot because I really love Oregon wine country. If all you care about is the wine: The wine is good, although it doesn't necessarily stand up to some of the great Oregon wines. We bought a bottle of the rose which tasted close-to sparkling. It was dry and flavorful. If you're looking to do a tasting: Tastings cost $10/person and they'll take you through their flight. Their tasting room is open and well lit and they have a host of friendly staff waiting to help you. If you're looking to do something awesome: We bought a bottle of the Rose, grabbed 4 glasses, sat at a table on their patio that looks out over beautiful vineyard vistas and watched hawks soar over the lush greenery, all while easily polishing off the bottle of rose. Totally worth it. I can't wait to go back... next time I'm bringing a picnic basket. read more

Loved the wines here. Visiting from Napa so my husband was so excited to get out of cab country for awhile and try some delicious pinot noirs. We drink a lot of wine and it's not often that we like every single wine we are poured, but we did here. Liked it so much we joined the club and are looking forward to continuing to enjoy some Oregon wines back in California. Great atmosphere and friendly staff as well. I loved their wine. They are one of the very few winemakers in the area who make a melon de Bourgogne. If you haven't tried this varietal yet, it might make even the most dedicated red wine drinker rethink whites. The tasting room is cute, nice people. I brought friends who were visiting from LA. This winery gave them a shipping box so they could check in a case of wine for the way home. The winery did this despite the fact that they only purchased 3 bottles. I just went here for Thanksgiving weekend open house. Wow! What a great place. The winemaker, Isabel (stolen from France), was pouring one of the wines they were tasting personally. Also the owner was there, his parents too, and even at least one of the winery's investors. Being able to stand around and talk to owners and winemakers about their craft is definitely something you don't get in Napa and a big part of what makes visiting Oregon's pinot makers so special to me. In addition, they had a great spread of cheese, breads, and even smoked salmon on hand for palette cleansing. Of course, they had the same $15 tasting fee as everyone seemed to today, and for that you got one crisp melon (same grape as a muscadette per Isabel) and three delicious pinots. There was a fourth pinot available for tasting, but it was only shared with club members. Since we were visiting from out of town and this was only the second winery we went to, we weren't ready to commit to membership yet, so we did not get to try it. That was a bit disappointing. But the wines we did have were excellent, and this is a pinot shop definitely worth tasting at. read more

Not the best winery we went to, but not bad either. Service was nice. They had a nice picnic bench with a view, where we had our lunch. The wines were ok, but not great (and pretty pricey, too). However, I did find their estate melon wine to be quite outstanding---it's a slightly sweet white that reminded me of a riesling. While we enjoyed our visit to De Ponte, it wasn't the most memorable. It was a pretty property and the wines were good, but I'm not sure I'd say great. However, we did like the 2009 Estate Pinot Noir. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The property was pretty and we liked the idea of renting the home on the property to share with friends. The wine here is fantastic!!! A true reticle tasting can be done here so you get to experience the wine through the ages. The burgers they serve are phenomenal so I highly recommend them. It's a little off the beaten path but quite frankly if you're only into staying on the Main Street you're just going to miss out on gems like this one! I was excited to stumble upon some delicious wine at DePonte. However, I was very disappointed that my tasting fee was not waived with the purchase of my $18 bottle of wine. It's the first time I have ever seen a 3-bottle minimum purchase required to waive a tasting fee...I will not be returning for a tasting anytime soon. read more

I was really looking forward to a day of wine tasting in Willamett Valley. I live in California, so this was not my first time to visit high end wineries by any means. However I was shocked at the lack of customer service skills and really amazed that the servers didn't seem to understand that the whole point of wine tasting is to sell memberships and encourage people to return in the future and recommend the winery for future business. The server was rude, insulting and uneducated about the wine. What was really surprising was we came to find out that she was the daughter of the owner of the vineyard. I would strongly suggest that they quit using free help and hire some professional pourers. read more

Our favorite stop in the Dundee Hills area. While excellent Pinots from this area can be expensive, we found the Pinot Noirs here to be outstanding at the price point. Our experience w/Pinots from surrounding wineries found the latest vintages to be earthy, a little tannin heavy and less balanced & fruit forward than similar vintages at De Ponte. While tasting is a subjective & personal experience this is definitely a worthwhile stop. Wow... Nothing my husband and I love more than walking into a winery for a tasting and being treated like family right off the bat. Some wineries/tasting rooms can put out a pretentious vibe, but De Ponte and it's people did just the opposite. This winery is visibly family oriented/run and the woman pouring wine behind the counter greeted us with a grin, eager to share the winery's creations with us. The $10 tasting fee was reasonable and well-worth the stop. Our server was well versed in her trade, excited to introduce us to the melon, which was new to us, and didn't seem to mind that we asked so many questions! Also worth noting, there was a quality spread of snacks that were super tasty. After tasting the pinots, a rose and the exceptional melon, we bought a variety of bottles, probably more than we should have! We ended up walking the property with the lovely woman who helped us for the tasting and it was then that we realized what a gem we had found! The passion for winemaking that the staff exudes combined with the stellar views and vineyards made this our favorite stop on our tour. De Ponte Cellars comes highly recommended if you want to taste fantastic wines in a comfortable atmosphere. Just be prepared to walk out with a bottle or two! read more
