We were greeted warmly by Kira Teppola, who now carries on the legacy started by her father, founder David Teppola. From the moment she began sharing her family's story -- from her father's early fascination with French wine to his pioneering belief in the Willakenzie Loam soils -- we were captivated. Kira's knowledge of the land, the vines, and the winemaking process was extraordinary. Her enthusiasm was contagious; we hung on every word and felt truly connected to the spirit of Laurel Ridge. Even the family vineyard dog, who was initially a bit cautious, became our friend by the end of the visit! The wines were exceptional. My favorite was the 2017 Barrel Select Pinot Noir, beautifully balanced and expressive of the terroir. We enjoyed it so much we opened a bottle that very night. The next day, I couldn't stop thinking about the bright, refreshing 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, so we went back just to buy more! Kira graciously set us up with a picnic table outside under a heat lamp so we could enjoy lunch overlooking the estate -- and even poured us a little more wine "so we wouldn't get thirsty." It's rare to find a place that feels this genuine -- where every glass tells a story, and every detail reflects generations of care. This was our last stop on our Sunday trip and the wine and sunset did not disappoint. We enjoy natural wines and thankfully AI suggested Day Wines. After a rather beautiful but stuffy and unfriendly tasting earlier at another winery (that we are members at!), our experience at Day Wines was the polar opposite. We were greeted by the nicest staff, and although we were their last appt at the end of the day, they warmly welcomed us and never rushed us. We enjoyed chatting to them about the winery and their wines. They also brought out an extra wine off the tasting based on what we chatted about, and we bought a few bottles to take home, including a couple of the bonus pour. It was hard to only buy a few! It was $25 for a tasting flight of 5 wines, which especially coming from CA seems super reasonable. They also waive tasting with $75 wine purchase which is easy to do. Very glad we found Day Wines, and I can't wait to share with our friends and enjoy at home! Excited to see what comes out from them in the coming years.

From the start, his energy, humor, and genuine passion for the wines and vines came through. We had the opportunity to spend time with Page Knudsen Cowles, whose family helped establish Oregon as one of the world's premier wine regions. She shared the history of her family's vineyard, the realities of running a multi generational business, and how they continue to honor her parents' legacy while moving the winery forward. One of my favorite moments was ending our visit with a private lunch in the beautiful cabin her father built for her mother, a place that now welcomes wine club members. Sitting there while hearing their family's story made us feel like we had been invited into something very special. Between the breathtaking vineyard views, wonderful wines, warm hospitality, yoga overlooking the vines, hiking the property, and the incredible personal stories, this was so much more than a winery visit. We decided not to do a tasting because we wanted to try their Pinot Noir so we each got a glass of a different Pinot and settled in the shade and Beaty with some Oregon grown hazelnuts. The 2022 Backstory was a beautiful and bolder Pinot which I love. It turned out to be my favorite Pinot tasted on our trip. Additionally the host was knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. I like going to wineries where you learn about the wine you are drinking and that was definitely the case here. When I'm back in the area, I will head here first. And we also got the lowdown on the membership!
