Been going to Dean's for a couple years. Good place for optometry, and fine place to get glasses.

He went on to explain why and answered all my questions. Though dissappointed, I really appreciated his honesty. I had gone to another Lasik center (part of a large national chain) before seeing Dr. Bryar, and had been offered laser procedures. Potential complications, though mentioned, seemed to be down played. I came to Dr. Bryar for a second opinion. I cannot imagine going through life with complications related to an elective procedure that was performed because of inconvenience (glasses) and perhaps a bit of vanity. Thank you Dr. Bryar.

I was then told the Dr. would be in to discuss if I could be a candidate for Lasiks or a similar procedure. I sat in the exam room for over 45 minutes. No one came in to tell me that the Dr. was running behind, in surgery or having a issue with a previous appointment. I walked out of the exam room after an hour meaning to leave. I ran into the tech, questioned her asking if I was going to see the Dr. She said, 'yes' and that she would go check. The tech came back to say the Dr. would be in in 'just a minute.' She was finishing up an appointment. I waited 6 more minutes and then left. I was in that office from 11:30am to 1pm and was seen for 15 minutes of that time. As this was a consultation for an elective surgery on a very necessary part of my anatomy and paying out of pocket for this delicate procedure, my intuition told me to bail. If a practice is overbooking their physicians that they cannot stay on time and do not have staff to update patients and potential patients on a physicians eta. If a Dr. is running behind on consults for over an hour and the practice is double/triple booking consults and patients, odds are that physician is WAY overworked and probably has no stamina, focus and wakefulness to be touching your eyes with a laser or scalpel. Go elsewhere. Definitely.

He then told me I would receive a call the following week with a quote. The following week, I received a call from a pushy saleswoman named Kendall and was asked if I'd like to schedule surgery and which days were available. This all happened before she even gave me a quote. The whole experience turned me off, so I ended up going elsewhere for my surgery, and I would recommend you do as well.

I've been thinking about a lasik procedure for the past couple years now because my eyes have…read morestabilized, so I visited a few places in the Chicago area to get a consultation and see who I would move forward with come Jan-16 to leverage my FSA funds. I stumbled upon Vision One via Groupon, but there's just something about discount services that makes me uneasy when it comes to something as important as your eyes. I still wanted to see how the consultations would vary, so I decided to make an appointment. I've had a prior consultation with another venue downtown, and they were very extensive in the tests conducted, and made me feel very comfortable. The surgeon himself even came in and told me how the process would work pre and post surgery. The consultation with Vision One was certainly different, to say the least. They don't have the main equpiment at the consultation office downtown, so the main problem was that they couldn't verify if I'd actually be eligible for lasik or PRK surgery and that I would find out the day of surgery (if moving forward with them). The surgery also takes place at a different office in the west suburbs and not the downtown location. The lasik process at Vision One also uses the older method, using a blade to make the flap on your eye, as opposed to new technology that uses lasers to make the flap; hence the cheap groupon price. I didn't feel comfortable at all coming out of this consultation and there was a night and day difference coming out of this one vs. the other two places I went to. Word of advice, if you're trying to save a few bucks, find it in other ways like eating out or other things in your budget that you can cut back on. When it comes to your eyes, it's worth dishing out the extra dollars to get a more safe and precise procedure. This is just a suggestion, you're in charge of your own decisions. Hope this is helpful! Best, Charlie

Surgery: 5 stars I…read morehad a droopy eye lid so my optometrist recommended I see Dr. Weiss for surgery to correct the problem. He was incredibly knowledgable about all aspect of the surgery and explained in great detail how the operation was going to be performed and what recovery was going to be like. He was so good with the operation that after my eye healed, I wanted to get it done to my other eye just because of how great of a job he did. Absolutely fantastic work. Logistics: 1 star I called in April to set up my surgery for Sept as they needed extra lead time to get it approved by my insurance. Then two months later, in June, I switched jobs so I called them to let them know my insurance had changed. They confirmed the change on their end so I thought everything was all set. Fast forward to a couple of weeks before my surgery when they called me and said that no one contacted my new insurance company for approval so now I have to reschedule my appointment to two months later. Wtf, I specifically called after my new job just so this stuff could be taken care of but clearly no one did. During consultation, they told me that my operation was covered by insurance because my droopy lid blocked my vision. However, they never told me that I had a deductible and I found out months later in a bill they sent So basically, you're telling me that during all of those times when I was there talking to the doctor, setting up appointments and playing phone tag to get my insurance worked out, you never bothered to explain to me how much this was actually going to be paid? After paying for my deductible with my FSA card over the phone, I told them to mail me the receipt so that I can submit the claim. Of course instead of sending me the itemized receipt that every person using FSA would need, they send me the credit card one which can't be submitted as FSA proof. So I have to call again and wait for another letter. Lastly, while Dr Weiss was great, his assistant isn't. When I was brought into the office, she asked me if I had high blood pressure. I answered no to which she responded with more questions about my exact blood pressure measurement. When I couldn't give her a number, seeing as how I can't measure my own blood pressure off the top of my head, she just made one up and wrote it on my chart! So in conclusion, 5 stars for Dr Weiss and his work, 1 star for all of the logistics surrounding my surgery.

One I finally figured it out I went to check in. The assistant handed me a stack of papeará to fill out, standard procedure I understand. My problem is I filled out all these forms beautifully on their website and submitted. The page gave me the, successfully submitted response! Boy was I wrong, yes I had to fill them all out again. The assistant gave me the ole "sorry I'm not seeing it here," routine as if to push the blame on the me the customer. What's scary is these people are going to be digging into my eyes with abrasive tools and shooting lasers into them. Technology has come so far right? I was born in the 80s and hearing that definitely would sound like science fiction. The reality is though we have come that far, yet seems this place can't keep electronic, electronic paper work in order. It's basically an email from me to you with a PDF. Yet I am so bold as to still be sitting here writing this review. So we gained a star. For five my writing and spelling I can't see really well. I have those crazy drops that dilate your retinas. I hate them. The technician who took care of me was wonderful gave me faith that this may go well. Still waiting to see the doctor. Some reviews I saw had stated the wait time was poor. Also, there are a ton of people in the waiting room. My assumption is there is only one doctor which is bad looking at all of these people. Well it ended very well. Dr. Epstein was very informative and made me feel at ease giving me options for my condition. You may have also read my Yelp for Panton Eye Care. They were not good at all. Here however, it was cut and dry here's the issue, here are the options let us know when we can schedule a procedure. I really like the let's solve this problem type of business. I would recommend them to anyone.
