I haven't had my eye check in longer than I care to mention. I was up front about this. From the moment I walked in here, I felt very taken care of! Their paperwork explained very thoroughly what to expect during my visit, what my insurance would, and would not cover, and what other diagnostic test they offer to better know the health of my eyes. There was a lot of up and down sitting, and going from room to room, but it was all kind of necessary. I didn't feel "cattle herded" though. Dr. Tran was so personal, professional, and pleasant! I came in on a Monday at 5:30 pm to see Dr. Tran for a basic eye exam. I did the basic paperwork and Ulises, the assistant(?) was able to answer any minor questions I had. The eye exam itself Dr. Tran was clear to explaining to me any procedure and was able to ensure me the accuracy of my eyesight as I had doubt. She answered all my questions clearly as well! A quick and enjoyable experience for someone with healthy eyes! Picking out glasses Ulises was able to help me understand my insurance and what prices each glasses I like would be, even stating coupons I had from my insurance! I didn't notice the time as it is a little over their closing time, but they did not rush me at all. Ulises even took the time to clean the nose pad on my old glasses. I have been seeing Dr. Gelb for three or so years. I love this place, and I love Dr. Gelb! She is incredibly professional yet personable, and her whole staff is great. They are very clear about which tests are covered by my insurance, which are recommended-- Dr. Gelb recommended one specific test for me every other year based on my age and family history, and you know what? If she told me I should have it every year, I'd trust her completely and pay for it every year. I trust her completely! Also, she doesn't do that horrible air puff test but a more state-of-the-art version that's much less awful. They also do a great job of managing patient time between different patients and portions of the exam. A couple years ago, I was considering contacts but I was nervous, but they were super great about getting me samples and teaching me how to do it before I placed my order. This year, I got in late in the year to take advantage of my vision insurance and knew I needed a new prescription, and Anna painstakingly went through the math with me to figure out the best use of my vision plan -- to get new lenses in my Burberry frames, which I like a lot (oh, yeah, they don't try to pressure me into new frames-- previous places always do that, or try to talk me into prescription sunglasses), or use it towards a contacts order. I referred my husband to Dr. Gelb too and he really enjoys visiting the office, too. Everyone is super great, oh! and the hours are convenient, too! read more

I knew I needed my eyes checked. It had been 84 years (OK, maybe 5) and it was time. I also needed new frames. I'd been wearing the same frames since probably 2013? Yeah, it was time. The Chicago Eye Care Center made it so easy! I was able to book an appointment online. I walked in and filled out paperwork and perused the selection of frames. The exams were your typical eye exams, but they were still fun. They helped me pick out frames--I couldn't choose, so I got two different ones. I also got contacts, and watched in amazement as they crunched numbers to give me the greatest savings. I've never had a terrible eye doctor experience, and I guess I'm lucky that way. But I'm also lucky I had a great one at Chicago Eye Care Center! read more

This is a great optometry practice. I the past I saw Dr. Gelb on who is an excellent optometrist. I saw her on two separate occasions and was very happy with her professionalism and expertise. She helped me a lot finding contacts that work for me. She's also very kind. Today I saw Dr. Tran who is also a fantastic optometrist. She did the most careful and thorough refraction I've ever had. She too was really helpful with both contacts and choosing frames. I like her kind and clear manner too. She was very patient. I found this eye care center through Yelp and read the excellent reviews. I received an eye exam within 1-2 days due to an urgent concern. I also wanted to see if I could be fitted with contact lenses for my astigmatism and myopia. The staff is patient, responsive, and customer focused. Dr. Tran listens well, shares her knowledge, and gives me the type of trial lenses that I asked for. The tech who gave me lessons on putting in and taking off my soft contact lenses is astute and tailored the best method for me to handle my lenses based on my habits and hand dominance. For a reasonable response in getting answers timely, I recommend emailing the questions. Dr. Tran explains thoroughly. I prefer emailing when I have numerous questions because I comprehend better. The only negative is the neighborhood is super congested, but there is a small parking lot for the tiny strip mall and plenty of street parking along Devon Avenue. read more

I chose this place from good online ratings, but pulling into the small strip mall on Devon made me hesitate. I shouldn't have. I was ten minutes late and the office staff didn't blink an eye. Instantly greeted, ZocDoc digital forms were effortlessly loaded in their system and I signed a HIPPA agreement on an iPad. They will text you when my contact lenses are ready. Wow. This should be standard in doctor-land, but it just isn't. Thank god for medical staff who can actually use technology beyond a phone and fax. Dr Shira Gelb was warm, professional, confident, listened and most importantly was quick to explain everything she did and why. While doing medical exams, she specifically mentioned items from my family medical history and explained how what she was doing would help her look for that specific symptom. For seeing patients all day, that's really specific and a great memory and really reassuring that she knows what the heck she's doing. While waiting for my eyes to dilate (takes ten minutes), they had me talk to an staff person who was researching whether my health discount card or one of their in-store promotions would be the *cheaper* option for me. She was completely straight forward about pricing. Super helpful. Plus, great job using my time well. Things felt friendly, effortless, and competent the entire time. Probably one of the best optometrist appointments I've had, and I've worn contacts for 20 years. read more

I had not had an eye exam for quite some time as I had undergone Lasik. Dr Gelb and her staff were very accommodating and dedicated the time necessary to go over any concerns I had but at the same time, moved the process along so you were not needlessly waiting in the waiting room and then waiting again in the actual office to be seen as many doctor's offices tend to do. Used to go to Visionworks; walked in and out of Warby Parker. Needed a new pair of bifocals and gave Chicago Eye Care a try. Nice reps and a solid selection of metal frames. Great service as they worked to get all of the discounts and insurance coverage that would apply. Got my new bifocals in 8 days (promised 2 weeks). Glasses/frames fitted just right. Only possible drawback, they do not offer budget frames. My Ray-Ban frame was $180. Overall, a very good experience for me. read more

My experience at Dr. Gelb's office was wonderful! I was having severe pain that was getting worse for more than a week and I finally decided to visit a specialist. Dr. Tran was able to quickly identify the core of my eye problem and prescribed a very effective treatment owing to which my pain was gone in a couple of days. After a week I went for a check up to see how things are and my eye was healing well. Everyone in the office was very professional and friendly. Went here recently to receive an eye exam, as well as new prescriptions for eye glasses and contact lenses. The experience was excellent. The office was impeccably clean, the staff and doctor were pleasant, and the frames selection was quite extensive considering the small space. I used a Groupon that gave a generous discount, so the cost was very reasonable for the eye exam and the frames and lenses. (Even without the discount the prices were quite reasonable.) What I appreciated in particular was that the staff went the extra mile to make me feel comfortable, from including a chocolate in the bag with my prescription information to mailing me my contact lens samples because I was unavailable to pick them up in person. This is a first class independently owned business. The doctor is thorough, informative, friendly, and not salesy. The service from the staff is top notch. The only negative, though not enough to cost them a star, is the selection, which could be a tad larger. The prices are fair, or at least on par with other places. The industry as a whole is a racket though. You can't walk out of an eye place without paying half a G unless you don't mind looking like Mrs. Doubtfire with a glare in both lenses, not to mention the the eye cancer you'll get from the lack of UV protection. This is one of the best eye care in Chicago. I took an appointment and went their for an eye exam. They had this great deal where you can get an eye exam for glasses and contacts and get an eye exam next year again for free. As soon as I walked in Yolanda asked me to fill a form and the next thing I knew I was sitting getting my eye exam with so much care. Dr. Shira was so polite and did a great job in doing her work. Even though I did not buy glasses from them, Yolanda (I just hope I am saying her name right) helped me and told me the size that would fit me since they knew I would be getting my glasses from Dubai. After a bad service from Pearle Vision, where I was pressured to buy glasses, that are supposed to be free every 24 months with my current health insurance, I called a couple of other places and was not satisfied with their phone treatment. However when I called this eye care center, the representative was very profes- sional, respectful and provided the answers right away. I drove to the location a couple of hours later and ordered my free glasses. He did not pressure me in any way, made feel very comfortable and gave me the freedom to try as many glasses as I want / unlike at Pearle vision, where the woman was staying by my shoulder, explicitly told me to think carefully before touching any glasses and to touch as few as possible. I felt very uneasy at Pearle Vision. While here my experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The same representative, who answered my phone call, handled my business to the very end. When I placed the order, he told me the glasses will be ready in 2 - 3 days. Yesterday he called and 2 hours ago I went and picked them up.I had an exceptionally good experience and would recommend this business to anybody in need of glasses. read more
