I was quoted over $1000.00 to replace a older ceiling fan and switch, are they crazy. I already had the new fan.

BAD NEWS! Former (very happy) client of DeZiel HVAC for over 10 years. It appears that DeZiel and Deans are "partnering" now. Called DeZiel's main numbers And they all forward to Dean's even though there is nothing on either company website about their "association"! Our first call was Sat night at 7pm. No return call untii I called Dean's again at 9am Sun. Call was from a young woman named Ashley who was rude, condescending unhelpful Didn't seem to care that the house is at 50 degrees. Her best effort was to have a tech call me between 8 and 4 the following day Even though we pay for 24 hour emergency service by contract with DeZiel and the entire system is still under warranty. We really miss DeZiel but will have nothing to do with Dean' moving forward. read more

I am frustrated. I contacted Dean's Home Services because the Chandelier in my dining room shorted out. When they called to set up a "service" with an electrician they said they would come out an look at the breaker box and the outlet but that they would not do anything with the chandelier - if that was the problem. fantastic tech he knew exactly what needed to be done and how to replace my water heater. Only thing that went wrong was they put me on the $99 Deans Club Membership. I was never told about this by either tech's (two employees) I wasn't aware of any extra services till I got the Billing statement. called and was on the $99 autopay. wow not to happy about that how about telling the customer first about this service before I see it on my bill. Stay away from this scamming company!! Definitely seemed to be trying to take advantage of the bad timing of my furnace issues and my lack of knowledge of HVAC. My furnace in the rental unit I own stopped working in 10 below weather. I contacted Dean's and they were able to come out that day. The technician diagnosed the problems. He gave me a long list of items that were bad and extremely costly to replace. He also gave a replacement cost of $13,000 but I could put it on credit for 15,000. It didn't seem possible this many issues would have happened at once, since I have never had more than 1 part go bad on a furnace at a time. I told him he could leave and I would call him back if I needed help. He then threatened that he might have to tag out the furnace. I then called another company that estimated they could replace the whole furnace for 2700$. It turned out to be a minor fix, but had the furnace replaced due to its age anyway. The tech from Dean's contacted me and I told him I found another company to replace the furnace for less than 1/4th of the price quote he gave. He then seemed to try to convince me he was talking about the A/C and furnace and could use a cheaper model, etc. He seemed agitated that I was not using his company. read more

They are all liers, they said my furnace was cracked and it was better to replace it all together. We had a friend that does this kind of things and he said it was only scratched and he was able to fix it right away at no cost since it was a simple fix. I'm glad I didn't believe a word of what this Kody guy said because a repair was going to cost us 3K and replacing the furnace 7K. read more

Apparently, they thought that since my gas meter was red tagged, I was an easy target for gouging. The technician, Erik, started by saying everything would have to be COMPLETELY disassembled. Then he told me it would cost $500. I pointed out how easy the repair of the one joint was and he said "Why don't you do it yourself?" I called another company, Joel Smith Heating & AC. Their minimum charge was $209. He completed the repair in less than 30 minutes. read more

Had a terrible experience with Dean's Home Services. I was naive to think that the company would quote me a fair price for a ceiling fan installation. I provided all the materials, including the already assembled fans, to replace two light fixtures. They quoted me $1200 for that install which in my mind was just labor as there was no adjustment to the existing wiring or mounting box. When asked for detail on the price - they said they don't provide their customers itemized billing and refuse to provide transparency on what is behind that quoted "flat rate". Called Deans, as this is the third company i called and was told someone would come out in an 8 hour window. 7 hours later, i receive a call saying the plumber is busy and won't make it out within the quoted time and they wanted to reschedule. I cancelled and will look for another company to give me a simple quote on a new toilet install. It's starting to look like a theme here with companies. Book you so they don't lose your business, but not meet the promises of arriving on time. I may have to do this task myself. BTW, First company i called did the same exact thing. I wish that I would have read the negative reviews before having them out to my house. I was charged $700 to put in a turbo capacitator. The recommendation was to replace the entire AC unit for $9,000, as replacing the capacitator would just be a temporary fix. I had a meeting coming up so I did not have time to look into what this should cost, so I agreed to the $700 fix. Now after further research I have found this should not have cost more than $300! My receipt shows no itemized detail of what was included in the $700. Also, once the new capacitator was put in, the tech offered to drop the price of replacing the entire unit to $6,000. How can the price to replace the unit fluctuate $3,000 within 15 minutes?! I do not trust this company and will not use them again. Do not recommend. read more

Received a very bloated quote for furnace replacement. According to my calculations, (assuming 5 hours per furnace) their hourly rate is about $2,000. Similar hourly rate seems to be embedded in their quotes for plumbing work. I think this is excessive, but it works for non-repeat or naive customers! Beware of their unethical pricing methods! They quoted me $16,454.56 for clearing a clog in my main sewer drain. After getting a second quote I got the clog cleared the next day for $900. What's really troubling is that they completely mis-diagnosed the clog. They said it must be a broken pipe and that the only way to fix it, is to tear up part of my front yard, 10 feet into the street and part of my neighbors driveway. All at the cost of $16,454.56. I live in a high-end triplex and Dean's told me that my tenants and I would be without working plumbing for 5 days. I took his word for it and hired him on the spot. I rented a portable toilet preparing for no plumbing for 5 days. Luckily!!!! I came to my senses and got another quote and got the clog cleared the next day for $900. Stay away from Deans. As a member of Deans services they used to call each spring and fall to schedule regular maintenance. They now don't do that and they did not notify customers. Since I did not receive the customary call, I called to have my air conditioner looked at. Was told September. When I told them it was not functioning properly again was told September. This on the heels of their repair service last summer which took nearly a month since they no longer sell the brand they sold me. Their call center is terrible and don't pass along the details the collect from you so be prepared to repeat it all at least twice. Deans is not cheap and now service is terrible. Stay clear of Deans. read more

I purchased an air conditioner and a furnace from Deans. Worst customer service they do not stand behind their 100% satisfaction. Way overpriced. I don't like to be talked down to being a customer. The worst experience ever from a company we have been traumatized by them. I had hired a different company and bought a new air conditioning furnace they found a freon leak on a refrigerant line. Thank goodness my son could finally wake up in the morning for school. I will never recommend Dean's home service. I wish I read all the better Business bureau complaints about Dean's before I bought from them. read more

It's pretty impressive how they messed up everything and then screwed us over. We had a bathroom remodel done and Dean's did the tub, toilet, and shower install. They screwed up each part: For the shower they installed the valve without considering the tiling thickness so it was installed too deep into the wall. They also did not confirm that the valve operated correctly. So then once the tile was up they had to order an extension piece. Then they realized that the 2-way valve did not work properly. So then they had to either install a 6-way valve over the top or tear out the tile in order to replace the valve. We went with the 6 way. Then the shower pressure was terrible and we realized that they installed it with a bunch of paper and tape in the pipe which was clogging it. For the Toilet, they installed it with one wax ring, which turned out to not be enough. So we leave on vacation and my mother-in-law uses the toilet. Upon our return we find that the toilet leaked into the basement for two weeks. On the tub, they somehow managed to install the drain incorrectly and caused a brass fitting to crack. we had water all over our basement! It was an absolute mess. Then comes the repair bill to fix the basement ceiling: Dean's covered the cost of drying out the ceiling because some of the moisture was from the toilet but the greater than $10,000 ceiling repair is on us because, per Deans, we supplied the part. In the quote with them they state that part of their installation is to inspect all work and ensure that everything is in working order. They literally did none of that for any of the installations. Total amateur hour! Please save yourself the trouble and find someone else. read more

Not sure how these 1 start review got here, but my encounter with Dean's was good upon first impression, ongoing communication and a somewhat finished job. I only say "somewhat" because I had a new pipe replaced out on the sidewalk from where there was a major backup that had my house starting to flood water. I will reserve a 5 start review when they come to pack in the side walk as right now there is temporary fill due to it being so cold. They are expected to be back out in the Spring to take care of that. My first impression upon meeting Aketo Granberry (Drain Supervisor) was very positive. It is not often that I feel as a woman, guys come and speak way over my head. Aketo was very sensitive to that and made sure I understood the issue and what was needed. I had my own personal plumber come as consult to make sure I was not getting fed any BS too :-) Aketo was friendly, knowledgeable, thorough and I felt piece of mind when he told me how quickly they could get permits and get the job done. Due to a snow storm and a sick employee, the workers showed up a week later and they worked very professionally, communicating with me along the way and when they were done, they packed the dirt back in and cleaned up well. They worked efficiently with my insurance company and provided all requested information, and as a result, I received payment from the insurance an hour after they left on the same day! Had to put in a new septic drain line. The company DESTROYED the rock bed and part of our lawn and initially said they would come to fix it. We then reached out after two weeks of trying to get ahold of them to fix the damage and they stated that "per their policy" the damage was not covered and that my husband should have known this. 8000 dollars worth of work was performed to put in a new drain line and they couldn't take the time to cover around 300 dollars of landscape repair. Was having an issue with a toilet not flushing. Guy looked at toilet for about one minute, didn't touch it. Proceeded to test our water. Said we needed a new toliet because of hard water. The toilet is three years old. Must've been having a contest at work regarding water softener sales??? Made no sense. I've been a Dean's club member for over 5 years as they installed my furnace, hot water heater, and water softener. I've always gave them the benefit of the doubt as I am a pretty low key guy who is not active on social media. I can no longer stay silent. Over the last 3 years I have been rescheduled many, many times for their evaluations through their Dean's club membership. Today was the final straw. Today is the 3rd time in the last 3 months that they want to reschedule. I always thought the membership was to get priority when scheduling. I guess I was wrong. I always get the same excuse, their technicians are busy with emergency requests, blah, blah, blah! 3 times in the last 3 months shows that I don't matter, no apologies for anything. I just wasted 3 days to be home for them. Customer Beware: Dean's doesn't care about you or your membership. Don't waste your time or money on their memberships. I had them out to check furnace and they didn't do any testing just said I should replace the furnace and tried to sell me one. STAY AWAY!! WORST COMPANY we dealt with. If I could give Deans Home services a negative 5 that may not be enough. We got a quote to rewire our house. We had not one but two almost hour long appointments to go over everything we needed done. Quoted $25,000 for their deluxe electrical package. When the crew arrived they claimed they did not know what needed to be done so we walked them through everything yet a 3rd time. This time they wrote it on the studs:walls. Halfway through the job they wanted $5K more & when realized they won't be able to squeeze out the $, they abandoned the job!! We had to hire another electrician to not only finish but recheck all Deans work and undue some of their incorrectly wired lines!! Deans damaged our fireplace box & trying to force us to use their contractor to fix it. As of today, they did not resolve this issue. Deans home services will say anything to get you to sign the contract & mid job claim more$ is needed for an "issue" they found. I'd hate to have you go through the headache we went through. Predatory pricing methods. They quoted me $5,700 dollars to hydro jet 5 drains. Not sure how they were able to read that quote off with a straight face. LITTERALY would be cheaper to put myself through plumbing school, buy the tool, and do it myself. Below is the tool they used it's nothing fancy. We ended up doing one drain out of necessity and it cost about 900 dollars. No parts or product, just man-hours. Again, not sure how they are justifying hourly rates higher than most surgeon's. Online pricing promotes a small fee for a drain but it's 100% bait and switch. Do yourself a favor and take an elaborate 20 day vacation in Europe instead and when you get home, pick a company that doesn't price gouge read more

I love Dean's. They're always so polite and competent. I had my old water softener blow up and spread these weird jell balls throughout my pipes which caused my faucets to clog up. Every faucet, and toilet, had to be replaced asap. I had no water and couldn't use the toilets. They came right away to determine the issue and then came back the next day to do all that work. It was a mess and I had company that week. We were all very impressed with this company. I still have them eight years later. read more

The tech showed up and rather than attempting to diagnose the problem by made every attempt to convince me my furnace was unusable and instead attempted to sell me a new furnace as well as tankless water heaters at ridiculous prices. Beware of separate fees for trip and diagnostics. While I was warned there was a trip charge, despite asking the Dean's phone agent multiple times they would not discuss the diagnostic fee over the phone. Once the tech arrived I agreed to pay the diagnostic fee but I feel like I mostly paid for a sales call. read more

I have since scheduled multiple maintenance appointments only to have them canceled on the day due to "overbooking." They are crooks, stay away!!!!! Them look at my AC that was not working. They told me that I needed a new compressor ($4150), fan motor ($1050), and capacitor ($450). I looked up just the parts prices online. Compressor ($1200), fan motor ($250), and capacitor ($42). I thought the markup was insane so I had another company give me a second opinion. I showed the service tech that came out everything that deans had quoted me and all the pictures and documents that deans sent me. The tech went through the whole system and at the end he installed a new capacitor and washed my condenser. Now my AC is working perfectly. I was charged $50 for the capacitor and $350 for the labor. $400 vs $5600. BTW my AC is only 7 years old. read more

Our old house needed quite a bit old plumbing cleaned and replaced. It was done like lightning, fast and well done. We also needed our aluminum wiring replaced with copper. Because of the Arc Fault Detector breakers continually going off after their initial installation we kept having them come back to make it work. It took 5 months of them having to keep coming back, but their warranty was honored. We did pay a whole lot of money, but our house seems to be running fine now. The technicians were always friendly and helpfully explained what they were doing. Two employees were "no longer with us" during that time, one a very rude receptionist and an electrician who apparently didn't do everything right or check his work, and incidentally made our ceiling fan inoperable. My opinion is this is a plumbing company who decided to expand and did it too fast. I think I would, in the future, go with companies who specialize. read more

I called to get a quote for my water heater replacement. Called me to say they can't do quotes have to send someone out to look and see. They wanted $69 service charge plus trip charge. I asked for just a ball park quote get an idea. He says fine someone will call me back to shoot me a rough number for install. Never called back. You guys suck. Read all the reviews here folks. I would not waste your time scheduling service with Dean's. They will set up an appointment and give you an eight window. After you wait for eight hours no one will show up and you will get a message stating that they need to reschedule. When you call and ask to discuss this with someone in management none of the managers will talk to you. They are very unprofessional and have no respect for their customers time. Short but important update. I called to have them do a replacement for a washer / dryer. I had been quoted 140 from sears but they didn't have availability for a few days so I called deans as they are usually quicker. Same day were able to make the appointment. On the phone I gave EVERY detail so the tech would be ready. Frankly - it isnt that complicated. There are only two types of dryers and for electric there are two plugs. The tech called me when he got there and started telling me I was missing a "whip" (why is it so hard to just call it a power cable??) and then in vague terms told me it was "more complex with some things with different voltages and stuff" (that's a quote) ...and then tells me he will have to call me back. 30 min later i get a call and a quote for $450. That's to unhook a washer dryer and hook a new one up. Nothing else. not removing/recycling the old one. not delivering the new one. I'm not "licensed" and Minnesota has a law that says you cant turn off a gas line without a licence (this is the same as turning off the water on a garden hose). So I guess I'm paying for that because this is ridiculous. Bad communication between dispatcher and service guy and the service guy couldn't explain anything to me. I'm normally all for supporting small business but this is simply ridiculous. Sorry Deans - 5 years a customer and now I'm out. Peace. read more
