After a recent experience at Dear Tooth Fairy, I would give this business zero stars if I could. Our family of four were patients for over 7 years and tolerated the unkind staff and booking difficulties over the years, but our last visit was the most disturbing experience I have ever had with a doctor or office and I would advise against anyone using their dental or orthodontics services, especially for children. My 7 year old child had an orthodontist visit with the orthodontist, Dr. Song, (who is completely ill-equipped to deal with children), to be fitted for his Invisalign. He did not have the correct size mouthpiece for my 7 year old child; they did not have the room set up for a child, but rather an adult, and instead of explaining what he would be doing before starting the procedure, he waited until after my son was inconsolable. The fitting was not completed during this visit. When I voiced my concern with the way the appointment was handled, along with disappointment at the inability for the staff to reschedule in a timely manner (our next appointment was scheduled for 6 weeks later, after already waiting weeks on the Invisalign molds) he was unable to provide answers and suggested that finding a new orthodontist was the best option. Keep in mind, Dear Tooth Fairy claims to work well with children with anxiety and take a "gentle" approach. Absolutely nothing about his approach was gentle; the television set was even set to a home building show for an adult, not a child. Dr. Song didn't know where any equipment was and didn't know how to change the channel. They spent 15 minutes trying to get the channel changed, after 10 minutes of trying to find the correct size mouth piece but then told me they didn't have time to complete the appointment. When we reached out to speak to Dr. Kim who has known my family, as mentioned, for 7 years, she refused to speak to us over the phone, and STILL has yet to. She unequivocally supported her other practitioner and offered a refund for all services with Dr. Song. Receiving that refund took weeks, even though it was a DIRECT payment to Dear Tooth Fairy; we are still awaiting the refund on our insurance portion. Bottom line, Dr. Kim has no backbone to speak with parents and no concern for human decency or respect, let alone speciality care for children. This is only magnified by the people she hires to work at the facility. Rosemary, who is expected to work the front desk, assist with x-rays, and procedures in the dental rooms is the most unkind person I have ever met in my life. She is rude over the phone and in person, and is not kind to children. Just one recent example, we arrived for an appointment at the end of October '25 that was scheduled for 2:00pm. We arrived at 1:50pm, as requested in all paperwork you receive prior to your appointment to arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. At arrival, Rosemary was eating lunch at the desk, she did not say hello, but said "you need to come back at 2:00pm, I'm still on my lunch." I asked if we could wait inside since it was a particularly cold day and she said "no, come back at 2:00pm." Dr. Song arrived at 2:10pm back from his lunch break for our 2:00 p.m. scheduled appointment - ten minutes late. The lack of professionalism, care for patients - who are children, and overall nature of both the facility and the people that work there should be enough to close this place down for good. Please take this horrendous experience as a warning and find yourself a dentist anywhere else. Also note that Dr. Min Jin Kim and Dr. Richard Song offer their services at other facilities as well, so be sure to check that they are not your dentist at another location. read more

We've been coming here for 2 years with our 5 year old and love it! They're wonderful with kids, and talk them through the process and make everything "fun", from reclining the chair to choosing a toothpaste flavor to getting a prize at the end. Our son loves his dentist and is excited for every visit! They're still following covid protocols and send reminder texts for appointments and we're seen promptly, which I also appreciate. Dr. Kim was awesome with my kindergartner. It was her first dental visit after a long time. All safe distancing protocols were followed, when you need to call in to check-in and enter. The second step after you enter is a temperature check which ensures everybody involved will be safe. I was anxious about my daughters dental health , but Dr. Kim put me at ease and explained what can be done to help improve it. She also patiently showed us how flossing can be fun and important. She took the time to inform us about food groups that impact our dental health and should consumed in moderation! Better than I Expected. I took my 2 yo son to here for his first time dental checkup. I was nervous because when I brush his teeth at home, he revolt it very much. I didn't know how he will allow dentist to do anything in his mouth. The whole experience at dear tooth fairy was great, from the enjoying toys in waiting area, have TV on celling so he can watch carton while lying on the chair. Even though his attention was not on TV, but it did some work for reducing his nervous. Dr. kim was cleaning his teeth quick and gentle. She taught me how to clean his teeth in the correct way. We got new tooth brush and toothpaste. He also get a small toy and sticker after cleaning. The first time dental check went successful! Got referred to Dear Tooth Fairy for my nephew and was surprised at how welcoming the office was! The office interior is very cute with clouds and balloons as the light fixtures as shown in the pictures above. There are TVs mounted on the ceilings at the patient chairs so that kids can watch cartoons while getting their treatment done. Dr. Kim really tried to make my nephew comfortable by giving him stickers while treating so he would be calm. She was very informative and answered all my questions. The visit ended with a goodie bag and a token for a prize machine. My nephew was one happy kid as we walked out. Rate 12/10. Office is clean and welcoming to children. Timeline/facts: Brought our 5 year son to this office. Had 7 teeth that needed dental work unfortunately due to poor genetics. 1st visit - Consultation and X-rays 2nd visit - Attempt to start dental work. Laughing gas/novocaine given. Child became scared and uncooperative. Dentist recommended General anesthesia to continue. $6500 Treatment plan made by office. $4500 Dental $2000 In-office anesthesia. 3rd visit - Child complaining of pain so my wife made appointment out of concern. Dentist took more X-rays and takes a deposit $250 for future treatment. 4th visit - Day of procedure. Told we have to pay entire $6500 balance upfront before they will begin. Will not bill insurance and send invoice like most medical professionals. Additionally: - My wife tried to ask the dentist a question day of procedure and dentist through her hands in the air in frustration and said "you have to ask Jessica." - Jessica (office manager) has terrible people skills and is combatative when questioned. She is also a very poor communicator as we felt totally confused by the entire process which left us bickering with each other and Jessica minutes before procedure in front of child. This is when we had enough and left the office to get a second opinion. - Procedure scheduled on a Friday at 4pm after numerous other patient anesthesia appointments. Late in the day Friday usually not when people at their peak performance IMHO. Child also can't eat all day which is not ideal. - Refused to refund our $250 deposit. - 4 visits/5 months later, lots of aggravation, almost $1000 taken from us and child got zero relief. We've been coming almost since they opened, and it's a really neat place. The office is really catered towards children. They have books and entertainment in the waiting room, and all of the chairs and equipment is specific for children which is really nice. Love that this dentist caters to children. From the time you walk in the waiting area had books and toys to keep my little ones entertained. I had an appointment for my daughter but since she started exhibiting cold symptoms, I called them up as a courtesy to let them know about it. They said they are going to charge 50 dollars since I rescheduled the appointment within 24 hours. But it is they who rescheduled the appointment and not me. This place is AMAZING, highly recommend it! It has the friendliest staff, amazing & adorable office down to every single detail: colors, decor, alligator faucet to wash your hands, tooth fairy leaderboard, cute toys & gum machine... And the list goes on! I went with my two nieces to get their annual checkup, and honestly I couldn't believe how amazing the office is and the facilities! Dr. Kim is very kind and knows how to talk to kids, and make them feel comfortable. She explained things very well and made sure they were very comfortable. I liked her so much that I asked her if she would work on adults ;) The girls were examined in the same room with 2 chairs side by side that recline and allow them to watch TV on the ceiling to distract them from any discomfort! We love Dr. Kim! She is very patient and professional with my three girls. My youngest used to be apprehensive about going to the dentist, but she is now excited for her semi-annual visit. We used to go to a different dentist in Bayonne, but were highly disappointed with the quality and lack of professionalism. We were lucky to find Dr. Kim and have no regrets. Her office and staff are very child friendly, and the location has available parking to boot. There also is very little wait time, unlike other dentists we've seen. She also took the time to show us how to proper brushing techniques for our children, and also what to expect as far as growing teeth for our older daughters. My 8yr daughter has been going here for more than 2 years now. She has had some traumatic experiences in the past with other dentists. When I first signed up I informed the doctor of what she went thru and the doctor informed me that they take a much softer approach with the children. And I will say that my daughter is no longer terrified of the dentist. She actually wants to see the dentist and have her teeth cleaned. Dr Kim is very great in comforting her and explaining what each instrument does. I now take my 2yr old for her cleanings and she seems to enjoy them also. She doesn't like the cleanings yet but she doesn't mind it if the doctor asks her if she can do it. Plus, the sunglasses for the kids is a cute touch. read more

Made a cleaning and regular check up appointment here for my 4-year old. I told them I will pay out of pocket but they insist she needs an X-day. I declined X-ray and the dentist refused to do a regular check up and cleaning for my daughter. This is the first time I was declined service. The dentist and her front desk staff were very rude. I just want to pay out of pocket to get her examined the third time this year (first two times covered by insurance). I don't understand why paying out of pocket is an issue and declining an optional service is an issue. The front desk staff even said rudely "then what are you doing here today". I am the decision maker- shouldn't be the insurance or the dentist. I think they just want to make more money in the unit time they spend. And regular cleaning +exam $156 is not enough for them.. when I arrived there were at least 3 kids waiting in the waiting room and I waited at least 20 min. Another hypothesis is.. our appointment slot time mostly spent on waiting anyways so it's not much of any loss to skip a patient without X-ray. Maybe it just depends on whether this is a busy day or not for the office. I just wish this office respects the patient's opinion a bit more. Just because most patients pay through insurance and do cleaning/exam twice a year doesn't mean someone cannot just pay out of pocket to get a simple cleaning and exam. Also if a mom thinks 4-year old is too young to get X-ray, respect her opinion. Just because X-ray is used widely, it doesn't make it right not to lay out the pros and cons of using it for a 4-year old. Nothing was discussed except a strong recommendation of using X-ray on a 4-year old. No potential risk was discussed with me. I don't think this meets the usual standard I expects for any medical or dental provider. read more
