1000% do not recommend Everything has been terrible first off they start you up the right way give you what you need to do and schedule your meetings and tell you about the second course you need to take. From there it goes downhill you will never talk to anybody else no matter what you need to do then I was just in the hospital for 3 weeks and I missed 2 payments lord knows why did I decide to do that. They called me and harassed me even while in the hospital about the missed payment even knowing that I have not been at work. These people are liars and scammers! I am a victim of their incompetence! I urge you to find better representation. They promise you all sorts of things then try to tell you file chapter 7! What!? Brittni Hayes especially! she tried to mislead me about the law and when I challenged her she labeled me hostile - then dropped me as a client. I'm currently filing a complaint and will go to the ends of the earth to see to that the courts and public know what she did! She promised to have my vehicle back in 5 days it she allowed the tow yard to hold my vehicle for nearly a month because she failed to do her due diligence. I had to find the proper people to serve because her lazy tail couldn't gooogle because she was too busy to do the work she was hired to do. You start off talking to regular lawyers once they get your money foriengners who can barely speak english try to call and give you updates. My vihicle was towed in October. I filed bankruptcy in November after they convinced me to do so. Then realized they didn't even know where my car was after I told them over and over. If it wasn't for the fact I have 2 years of law school she would have railroaded me into a chapter 7 - she first tried to get me to convert to a chapter 7 to cover her negligence I refused then she tried to tell me I had got arrested so the automatic stay didn't apply which is a flat out lie I was not arrested and even if i was the automatic stay applies- so i asked her to send me the caselaw she was relying on she never responded- then she lied and said the police told her that I never paid my tow fee to the city when I paid that prior to me even filing I knew she was lying because a commander released my car so I asked her to tell me the name of the person who said it and then she said oh never mind they are now saying you did -- that lady is a liar and needs to be disbarred !!! she intentionally lied about the law to mislead me - that said I never was able to get my footing that the automatic stay provides because I had to get my own car back by researching who owned the tow yard !!! and she lied all the way up to the hearing saying she filed sanctions when she did no such thing! on top of that she dropped me ---- that's ok GOD will repay your evil prejudice soon enough and I'm filing a complaint with every agency I can so I hope you ready - read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! The process has been terrible from beginning to end. The lawyer was very detached, always checked out, seemed as if she didn't want to do her job, excuses on why she wouldn't respond to emails in a timely fashion, and would not even answer the questions asked. Emails had no phone number to lawyer. The entire staff is hard to get in touch with all of the time. They do not properly give assistance or direction during the process. The written directions makes no sense and is not in an orderly fashion for the second debt course. It was thrown together and emailed. The website needed is not clear. The code was at the end to use to pay for it which should be at the beginning. They didn't even advise it was the payment code. The team I worked with made the process scarier and uncomfortable not being available, rude, and not answering question. I would recommend spending money with more professional companies and lawyers. they blow your phone up when they want you, but don't return your calls. The lawyer had some foreign speaking person call for a payment. I did not understand her accent which was a big language barrier. Why would I pay her? No miss lawyer you get on the phone and take the payment. Court date came I took 1 hr and 1/2 off the middle of my day from work they were late by over a hour, didn't acknowledge my presence in the zoom waiting, didn't communicate the lateness and I had to go back to work. I too, like many others, was referred to debtstoppers by a close friend. I had decided to look into filing for bankruptcy due to the overwhelming amount of debt I had accrued over the years and figured a fresh start was needed. I pushed through my info, a call was received moments later and I was connected to a lawyer right away. I set up my appointment and I began to feel confident about what I was walking into. The day of my appointment was rocky(February 7th). I arrived without my documents but I was told I could continue with the appointment and to just submit my docs once I got home. GREAT! My appointment was at 1:30. I did not see anyone until 3, and mind you, it wasn't even the lawyer I spoke with on the phone. This particular person was very agitated, impatient and uninviting, but I kept my cool, answered all questions and left still confident about the decision I was making. Once I sent over my document, i received an email from one of the secretary's and I was good to go. I am not sure what happened between then and now but so far, my wages are still being garnished and my car was recently repossessed after I was told that the garnishments would stop and that my car would not be up for repossession. Luckily, I was able to get the car back on my own but the leasing company assured me that there was nothing in their bankruptcy department with my name on it. I kind of figured as much already after having called/emailed both the lawyer and firm in Chicago multiple times in the past few weeks in regards to the next steps and have had 0 luck getting through to ANYONE. read more

The greeting from the attorney was very unwanted ,like we had a fight before or some .strike, right there .This is very unprofessional place ,where they pick and choose when and who to help first. I wish that I had done my research when deciding to file bankruptcy. I am now subject to dismissal of my case after 3yrs of payments. This firm made sure to receive its payments first, now it shows that im in the arrears because the incorrect amount of money has been deducted from my payroll since January 2020. I was told today that the error was basically my fault and I should've checked with my payroll to make sure the correct amount was taken out. I didn't complete the payroll deduction form, an attorney did. So now I have to come up with almost 3,000 or have the case dismissed. This agency needs to do better as well as the trustees office! I also received a letter with over 32 clients names and addresses. The letter was in regards to dismissal of bankruptcy cases like mine. I shouldn't know clients information and who has filed for bankruptcy. Don't do business with this firm. read more

This is in response to the debt stopped location on 111th and western. I responded under google before and they said their version of events don't line up with mine! They are writing there own reviews for one. Secondly, they "DID" dismiss my case after I paid them over $10,000 with just 2 payment left before I was done! They "DID" change attorneys several times and hid the fact they gave me a paralegal in another country. I too signed up due to them advertising on a African American radio station! I don't recommend! I came to debtstoppers because I needed help and I was in debt. They wasn't very friendly and that's ok because they are lawyers and their menions and I didn't expect more. I told the guy my problems and did all the classes and paperwork. Went before some a-hole so called judge and my ch7 bankruptcy was granted. I even told them that since I'm broke and jobless at the moment I wouldn't be able to pay right away and was told it's ok you'll be on a payment plan. Of course I got behind in my payments and then I started receiving aggressive phone calls from some guy who could bearly speak English. Then all of a sudden the finance company who I got my truck through magically found out where I lived and repoed my truck even tho it was in the ch7 and was wrote off. The manager here Marci, was very nonchalant about my issue and it has since been very hard to get in touch with her even after I expressed my concerns. FIRST, I will start off by saying the service of Debtstoppers was good for the first 4 1/2 yrs. It appears when you reach the end of paying off your BK, the firm gives you the runaround and back and forth of the amount owed. I called and left numerous messages with no return phone calls from the attorney or paralegal. The only person that you will speak with is the paralegal. They treat you like a Queen as they're coaxing you to sign a contract with them. Then, as soon as they get that money deducted from your pay check it all changes. I filed a bankruptcy in 2013. I needed to contact my attorney Jaime Torres to send an approval to buy a used car to get to work. I could not contact him or his office. The gas company turned my gas off a year after the bankruptcy was filed, I called my lawyer again. He told me to call the gas company and give them my case number. I thought that was his job but I wound up having to do all the legwork myself. He did nothing!!! The trustee threatened to dismiss my case, I could not contact my lawyer again. Their lawyers are useless. If you have to file bankruptcy, do it yourself. You'll save money. read more
