Communication was extremely limited, and for over a year I was not kept informed about the status of my case. I would have appreciated more consistent updates and clearer guidance throughout the process. In the few interactions I had with Mark, I found the communication to be unprofessional, rushed and responses often felt dismissive. He was very unfriendly during these interactions, and, not to mention, he was late to the two phone calls I had with him. I had to ask Mark to stop representing my case. After multiple follow-ups, I eventually received the attorney withdrawal documentation, but the delay added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. While this may not reflect every experience with the firm, based on my own, I would not recommend their services. I hope this feedback is taken constructively so future clients receive better communication and support.

I had neck and back injuries but nothing that required immediate surgery. I did negotiate with the lady to ask for more payout, and she got me a few hundred more than she originally offered. I thought that was curious, as I thought they negotiate the highest amount with the other party, not me negotiating with them to get more. She also let me know my case was not important enough that they'd consider taking it to trial (which they say they do with every case, so...that's not true, obviously...course perception is everything so I guess that other companies may think it's true). I think, depending on your case/injury, you may get more service and brighter people communicating with you. The initial secretary who took my info was great, offered lots of helpful info, and what they send you to sign is impressive. I don't have any complaints, because I've never sued a company before and have no idea what is the norm--esp when they are not billing me unless they win. Seemed okay, because all I did was really not much, paid nothing, and I got something. Interesting thing was State Farm immediately raised my car rates a lot after that --coincidence? hmmmm. Not sure. But, like I said, I was only communicating with a cog (secretary) at their firm. When I would try to go higher to get more answers and guidance, there did not seem to be a way to do that. Apparently, my case was peanuts for them. So, I did not interact with a lawyer at any time. I think I could have used more guidance, so keep in mind this is a huge law firm, and the lawyers are not intersecting directly with clients, by and large.

It soon became obvious that he was the right choice. He was quick to assess the charges and explain the possible outcomes. His court demeanor was very professional as well with the judge. I have to say that my son was a difficult person to represent. He has mental health issues and an I know what is best for me attitude. Mr. Cheronis displayed an enormous amount of patience when talking with him, which was critical to the outcome of the substantially better plea agreement and sentence by the judge. I worked solely with Elise Yu and Thomas. I am very grateful to have found them. After Thomas reviewed my evidence and clearly saw I was not in the wrong he called the attorney immediately and spoke to him. Let me just say that Thomas put the opposing attorney in his place (in a good way). He's very knowledgable, kind and knows what he is doing. Since the other side really has no case against me, I've been in contact with Elise the most as we are just playing the "waiting game" until they come back with a counter offer or something (I am not a lawyer, so I don't know all this legal jargon.). On top of being super responsive with all my questions, Elise has also helped me with a few other things as a courtesy which speaks volumes to her work ethic and service. My former attorney received payment for services that were not performed well. The last 4 times the case was heard, I never received an update. My case somehow fell off the docket and my attorney did absolutely nothing to get it back on after several conversations. This went on so long that my court appointed GAL tried to refund me because the case had received no follow up. Meanwhile, when I spoke to my attorney again, she blatantly asked me "Do you want to argue about what hasn't been done, or get to work?" I still had hope and was trying to make this happen a second time around. I guess I should've known better when she almost settled my first case for child support WITHOUT my consultation or permission. We had several continuances prior to that. I had no idea this was occurring, because communication was vague and I was told she would handle it when they did finally speak to me. I got notice directly from court this time stating if I didn't appear for the next hearing, they would automatically rule in favor of mom. After she commeneced going back and forth with mom and the state of IL., she told me what she was asking them to settle for (I never asked her to do that, neither was I advised of this plan prior to it happening). The only reason I was able to ascertain what was transpiring is because mom would not agree to the terms. I then was able to advocate through her but for myself meaning, even though she agreed the amount I was being sued for, I had to ask WHY did I need to pay ANYTHING seeing that I had proof of payment (this was submitted to the judge AND the state prior to hiring her, and then my attorney as well upon retaining her.) going all the way back to the childs D.O.B. The one thing she did do right was successfully advocate for mom to pay half of the fees since she lied and I'm in this jam because she wouldn't hold to her agreement. Since then, I've filed for a cease and desist of legal representation of any kind from Urban & Burt Ltd. I've requested documents via email, and no one has returned my calls or request. As if that's not enough, I was charge again for filing an appearance motion that she offered to do in front of the judge out of "kindness" after the judge discharged her from this case and also charged me to withdraw from the case. I started not to write this review, because in a different setting, I think I could have respected her as a person. I think she does have wisdom at times, however, she didn't perform her due diligence. Since, I've consulted several other attorneys, and they all said the same thing. After looking at the case notes, they feel I was misrepresented. The problem is I went all in to make sure my daughter has a father in her life, so I didn't mind paying, but I'm broke now. I've literally had to choose between paying my assessments for my home or paying Urban & Burt some times (guess who won). I tried to space out payments when I saw no work being done in hopes of motivating them to do something. Nothing happened with that either. This is really stressful and disheartening.
