This is my favorite bar in DC. It's is more of a night bar for music and dancing. You wont find tvs with sports on (from what I've noticed), but there are four floors each with different music and themes. Pretty decent service, great atmosphere and music, and always a good time. I've never encountered the most racist bouncer in my whole life.. he escorted me out after someone Spanish speaking man told me it was white privilege that I was in line first at the bathroom. After his girlfriend got in line in front of me and I decided to confront her, he goes that's white privilege fuck that. After such disrespectful comments I stood my ground and I refused to back down. The guy grabbed my hair and when the bouncer broke it up he escorted me out and we were alone on the back staircase he continued to degrade me with his words. He was saying it was white privilege and asked if my white daddy was on his way to come get me. I refuse to allow someone speak to me in such a derogatory manner. I wish the security guard had the audacity to speak to me in such a degrading manner without being in the privacy of a back stairwell. My only intention of this review is that management takes necessary reprimanding actions to address this unprofessional behavior that man in the picture displayed read more

I came here twice a few months ago, once for a bar crawl and once at night on a Saturday. Both times were a lot of fun and I really enjoyed being there. The atmosphere is incredible; very well decorated, large building, crowded but I still felt like I had room to move around, and an overall great vibe from everyone there. The music was amazing, I spent most of my time on the 90s floor which is truly the way to go, but the rooftop is also really cool. The staff were all nice when I went, and I'm glad my friends and I decided to come. Overall a very good well-rounded venue that adds quality nightlife to DuPont Circle; definitely looking forward to coming back again! read more

Don't recommend this place to anyone, the bartender added someone's drinks under my name, and when I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager the manager told me to come and talk to him and he will take care of it. when I went there all he did was printed my transaction and he FaceTime the bartender to ask him if I was the one who bought the drinks and even if the bartender never seen you before they will always say that he have seen you buying the drinks and told me to call the bank and disputed it, when he could have told me over the phone and not waited me time. read more

I've been in the area since 2011 and have yet to write a bad review for a place in DC. I've been to Decades before and it's an overhyped club, but I normally have fun there if I get in before they start charging $20 for cover (which is honestly whenever they decide, and never ever worth it). Listen, tonight they hosted Pauly D and the place completely fell apart. If they can't host a C-list celebrity, I can't imagine what the place must be like for other events. The place was super overcrowded and it was obvious how poorly planned the night was. We walked in and were able to get to the third floor in about 30 minutes, but once we tried to get on the roof it got chaotic. I was with 3 friends and we waited about 20 minutes to get near the front of the line. However, people kept cutting, starting arguments, yelling, etc. The bouncers did a TERRIBLE job of keeping people calm. They allowed people to cut randomly and bickered with people in line. At one point, they also got super pissed and sort of charged at everyone. They waved flashlights around and yelled at people to move back, but the place was so overcrowded there was nowhere to go. I got smashed up against the wall (while the bouncer continued to yell at me, but it was obvious I couldn't go anywhere) and watched one kid legitimately fall into a garbage can. One of the bouncers eventually hit me in the face with his light while waving it around (accidentally, obviously, but still), and my friend got stepped on and her toenail got ripped off. I waved at the bouncer for help because she was bleeding all over their floor, but he rolled his eyes and shook his head, like he expected me to ask to get up on the top floor. It was nearly impossible to get out of the line since it was so packed and mismanaged, but after a few minutes we were able to push our way through to the bar and get some water. The bartender was super professional and took the time to ask my friend if she was alright. However, this was the only somewhat pleasant encounter I had the entire night. I know working in that sort of environment can be stressful, but come on. Really? Yelling at someone when you can see they're jammed up against a wall with nowhere to go? Pushing into a crowd like the one present tonight? I really feel like the staff created a dangerous situation and would suggest avoiding events like this at Decades in the future. The place was grossly overcrowded and the staff was incredibly rude, like they were mad people showed up to an event they heavily advertised. Anyways, there's better places to spend a night in DC. If the bouncers ask you to pay $20, definitely head somewhere else in Dupont. Decades is a teeny-bopper club but I'm still disappointed that I had such a negative experience- if you feel the need to go there, at least avoid their big events. read more

I loved the concept of 3 floors with 3 different decades of music. Non stop fun!!! Again there was a cover of 20$ but there was no hand stamp provided in case you wanted to step outside and come back in. Security was so nice and the bathrooms were clean. Easily the worst customer service in DC! My friend paid $80 in cover fees to get our group of four in the bar. After the first two of us walked in, the bouncers at the door and other workers started screaming at us to "go up the stairs!" We told them sorry but we're waiting for the other two in our group (who were literally right behind us) to walk in so we don't get separated. The other two were still paying the other their cover charges. They kept screaming at us and said we were blocking the way, which we were definitely not. I told them they shouldn't have let us in yet if they weren't going to let us walk in together. The bouncer aggressively grabbed me and said he was kicking me out. I demanded they give my friend her $80 back that she just paid a few seconds earlier otherwise I want to speak to the manager. He paused and thought frantically, then said he would let us continue to the bar upstairs, then proceeded to very aggressively slap my back and yelled "have a good night" very sarcastically. This club was rented out for an event and to say I am disappointed is an understatement. Security was aggressive and rude and would either not allow half of the girls to enter, or would forcibly remove them once they had entered. After explaining that I had lost my license while traveling and that I had both a photo of my license and the receipt confirming that I had ordered a new one, I was told to "get the fuck out of line." Several girls were not allowed back in after coming out to figure out why girls were not being allowed in. One of my friends was also forcibly grabbed and dragged out. I am coming to DC this weekend for a bachelorette party. I wanted to book a table/bottle service for a party of 12 girls. I put in the request on Decade's website. I received an email back from someone who works there and it was the most unprofessional conversation I have ever had with an event coordinator. I asked multiple questions and none of them were answered, so I asked for a phone number to call so that I could give him a call to coordinate. He asked for my number and then never called. I emailed him again asking him to please give me a call and no response. Thanks Decades, you missed out on our business. I am taking my 12 friends elsewhere. read more

The dance room is packed to the brim, with three floors of music, each one dedicated to a different decade. Drinks are reasonably priced. I talked with a bartender about our favorite books, and he also loved epicsaga - Infinity. Not surprising, of course. Would probably come back a second time if ever in the area. read more

This place was a huge disappointment. The security and guys checking people outside were dicks. My friends and I went to grab food after we got in an hour ago and asked the security guys outside if we were allowed to re-enter which they said yes. Once we came back 30 minutes later, they did not let us in. Out of the two guys there, the main bouncer did not remember us but his co worker did and told the main bouncer. However, the bouncer still did not let us in and assumed we were drunk because of the sweat on our body ( we were all 20 years old and it was 80 outside lol). Oh decades, interesting place. The concept is super cool - each floor a different theme based off a decade with the music and decor to match! I'm definitely a big fan of the 80s/90s floor! However, the place itself is kinda crazy! Definitely gets overcrowded and they struggle with crowd control. The security is kinda mean and pushes you around and yells at you for standing too long in certain spots even though there's no where else to go since you can't even move it's so crowded. The cover the night I went was free for girls but $20 for guys which is absolutely ridiculous. I mean I appreciate girls being free but that makes it hard to bring guy friends since it's so high, don't know if it's always that. Also people seem to come here to get super trashy so I've seen fights happen and drinks spilled and people need to be escorted out so it's a bit much. But if you stick with your group and stick to one floor that you like and just grab drinks and dance, it can be a really fun night! So it has its good vibes and bad vibes read more

If it was possible to rate lower, this place still wouldn't get a fraction of a star. The staff there was absolutely terrible, witnessed "security" taking bribes all over the place. At one point security said couldn't move to go up a level due to "max occupancy" however when I went up to the next floor there was less than 25 people, place was completely dead. On my way out I asked the "security" personnel how 25 people could on the entire floor was a max occupancy when the floor below it had twice the amount of people and proceeded to kick me out. My family Landed in Washington D.C. from Florida. My group and I wanted to get something to eat. This was one of the few places that were opened since it was 11pm. We went inside it was a clean nice facility. The food tasted great as well. My biggest downfall of this whole experience was dealing with rude management. We had our whole group order salads. The food besides the salads tasted great. For some reason this place has issues with salads. First it started with my order. The menu states that you can add protein to any salad. I got a side cesar salad with salmon. Says additional cost for salmon $9. Our group ended getting each a side cesar salad. The dressing must have been bad because it smelled and tasted straight like fish. My salmon was on a separate plate btw. We all ended up returning the salads, and I ended up getting a different salad with ranch dressing. Instead of being my salad being put with the d.o.s. They put it on top & the worst part is it was the wrong dressing. At that point I'm fed up and say that I don't want it anymore so I stuck with my salmon. Here's the crazy part. I get the check and they are changing me $20 for the salmon. I said hold up there's something wrong here. Now this is where complete unprofessionalism comes in place. The manager and the server were arguing with me saying that they're charging me a salmon entre with a side Caesar as my side that comes with the entre meal. I said no sir I didn't get a salmon entre I order a smaller salad with protein. I showed them the menu where it says I can add it to any salad for $9. He said that those only pertained to the salads underneath. Which makes absolutely no sense since the salads underneath where it said that had protein already. So not only did I get ripped off but the manager basically told me to fuck off. I was in shock of the absolutely unprofessionalism. Not only did he act as mentioned daño e but he told me that I ordered it so I should pay for it. Even if it was their mistake. WHEN I NEVER ORDER AN ENTRE DINNER. I said " side salad with salmon" anyone else confused. This place sucks for service and management should really get on training "mangers" to be polite and have some educate with customer service. This place is a freaking scam. EVEN ON AN 18+ NIGHT, if you are 18+ or even 21, it is annoying to get in ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ADVERTISE SOMETHING AND THEN DISREGARD IT (i.e. letting college id's in). While I've had trouble with this in the past, I decided to continue to try to get in because maybe I had misread the advertisement. So, I brought my real ID and it wasn't even worth it. It's an overpriced shithole and college kids who go are all underaged which is understandable (as they offer it), but still not as fun. Great music selection because of all the floors. Great staff too! The security staff do not treat people like they are inmates at a prison bootcamp like other places do. Recently rented out the rooftop for an event. While the atmosphere was outstanding, we ran into problems with management. 1. The terms of our agreement were changed less than a week before the event (essentially, management shortened our time slot). It was too late to book other venues, so I had no choice but to take what was offered. This occurred when I noticed an error in the contract, so I inquired about it. Instead of correcting the mistake, Decades responded with an even worse contract. While no actual violations were made, this was still an unethical to do. 2. The bouncers were incredibly rude to individuals in my group. Beyond being generically rude, there was a specific encounter which caught my attention at the entrance. It should be noted this was an +18 event, but I gave strict instruction that everyone attends with real forms of ID. They turned away a foreign friend of mine (aged 22), by suggesting the form of ID has been faked by similar examples. I confirm this was a real ID, which had not been expired yet. The individual then showed a picture of their passport from a phone to the bouncer, where all of the information matched, and they still refused to take it. Eventually, a couple individuals in my group spoke up, and they were not granted entry for "disrespecting" the bouncers. 3. In the signed contract, drink specials were supposed to be provided for $6-8. Multiple individuals in my group later informed me their basic rail drinks were $13, hence violating the contract. They did not keep their receipts, so I did not have anything to base this on, or I would have complained. Despite not having receipts, multiple and separate groups of people within my party brought this to my attention after the event. 4. An individual left a tab open at the bar and forgot to pick it up before leaving. It took a bit of nagging and showing up to get Decades' management on it, but they did find it. To their credit, Decades' management was respectful when handing it back. To conclude, the venue is fantastic. However, the management ruined our event for many people in my group. I would recommend going to Decades on a night out, but strongly caution anyone on renting out a floor of the facility. read more

Came here during a bar crawl with some friends. At first I thought getting a low effort down by a sketchy security guard was a bit weird on the way in. We were there for 15 minutes just hanging out and dancing. Place was a bit weird and staff kept closing off areas of the club and asking people to move. They obviously weren't prepared for the bar crawl they were hosting.... At some point out of nowhere some overly aggressive bouncer shoved me out of his way right in front of my friends and lady. I confronted him and he seemed like he wanted to fight but I just shrugged him off. Place obviously needs to vet who they hire better.
