Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's nowhere in the city like this right now. Even though it's not the most ideal location to get to, I have a blast every single time I go. There's been a combination of chill nights, and ones where the bar is full, the dance floor is full and you just gotta get with the vybez haha. They typically open at 9, and if it's a night with a cover charge ($10), that usually starts at 10. They used to have patties for sale, but my last several times there I haven't seen them... so make sure you eat before coming! The DJs are always on point, and if you want to know who will be dominating the music, they are adamant about keeping their social media up to date with the performing DJs. They really know how to party! The toughest thing to deal with is the classic Adams Morgan parking, but let me share my secret -- Ontario Road. 98% of the time I find parking there, and it's just a few blocks over from 18th. Whenever I meet people who dance, they talk about how fun Timehri is - that they love the fact that most people are dancing here, which is surprisingly rare in the club scene. This is a club for the dancers and the DJs know that their job is to make the people dance (not as much before midnight when more people are lounging and talking). There are regulars who come here to dance. Also, unlike many of the restaurant/bars turned clubs in Adams Morgan, this venue was designed with speakers and sound travel and quality in mind. Places like Moonlight, Shanklin Hall, Jerk Pit/Oasis Upstairs do not have anywhere near this sound quality regardless of the caliber of speakers that are brought in for the event. As nice as SH could be, the music quality was horrendous and I found myself running back to Timehri. Similar to Moonlight's upstairs, architecture gets in the way when it's a space that is designed for another purpose and you're trying to force it to be a club. Turning up the volume just makes it worse and more obvious that there are sound quality problems. That is to say, part of the enjoyment of dancing is being able to focus on the music and not trying to figure out what song they're attempting to play. Timehri is below ground so it's like being in a dance cave. The reverberations of the bass alone - this is something you feel and get accustomed to the way the earth and the walls bring the music back out onto the dance floor. It is also dark. I enjoy darkness but it also heightens other senses and allows you to be more present and feel the music. This helps create an atmosphere where folks dance like no one is watching. I literally do my yoga and physical therapy stretches and exercises here (I'm grateful because I need to do them and wouldn't feel comfortable doing them in other places), then my dance class warm-ups and try out variations of routines from recent dance classes of all sorts - it's not weird and all I've gotten is encouragement. As a seasoned woman of size, I do not feel out of place here. I like that there is a blend of ages, sizes, races, nationalities, etc. It's an unpretentious environment and many times I meet people here, they express how much they enjoy it, in spite of the potential inconvenience of parking and such. It is a bit of a smaller space, but if you come on week night, it is more relaxed and not as crowded (Fridays tend to be less hectic too) though I'd check their social media to verify if they will be open on a specific weekday. I have yet to see them close on a Fri or Sat unless it's Christmas or something but they charge a cover on weekends after 11 pm. And if you do get there before 11, understand that Caribbean people aren't really going to be there until 1 am. There are some negatives but I will allow people to experience that for themselves. On Safety, there was a point after the DC nightlife reopening after over a year of being shut down where I experienced many unfortunate, violent encounters in Adams Morgan, but upon further investigation and talking to other women (some who moved to other countries or parts of the country after traumatic incidents going out in DC in 2021ish), it seems like that has mostly passed for the time being. That being said, be vigilant and bring a friend if you can - there are predators who frequent all the venues and while I notice them infrequently, they are still some out. Moving on, there are enough venues in the area now that for people who enjoy Caribbean music to do a bar crawl and visit multiple venues on the same block or 2 - and don't forget to include Timehri as it is open later than most. read more

Good vibes only! So happy to see this place is still around and poppin!! I've been here many times over the years! Big up to my Guyanese people and all my West Indians!! Adams Morgan has never been an easy place to find parking - especially on a Saturday night! I came here last month for a DMV Does Caribbean party. I'm glad I didn't try my luck and ubered over here. The event was nice. The music was great, the drinks were nice and strong and not $20 like so many places these days! Definitely worth it. I will be back again!! read more

I do not recommend. Absolutely 0 stars! I showed up at 12:30am on a weekend. How are they going to say the cover charge is $10 and they accept cash only for the cover charge??? I asked "can you charge it at the bar?" They said "no you can go to the atm across the street." First of all...that was a blessing because I shouldn't have been trying to go in there anyway. It seemed super dirty. someone who seems like they work there...was literally smoking right in front of our face next to where we were talking to the security guy. Anyway this place is disgusting. Growing up around Caribbean folks, I loved going to places that played soca, dancehall, and reggae. I've been looking for a place in DC where I can enjoy music and feel like I was back in my neighborhood. My review is for my experience on a Friday night after 10. My girlfriend celebrated part 2 of her birthday there so I got the opportunity to visit for the first time! We arrived a little before 1030pm on Friday night. The bouncers were very nice. We were able to get seats at the bar and on the wall as it hadn't started to fill up. HoneyMo is gorgeous and was our bartender. I got two rum punches and they were good. The second one was strong! I really enjoyed. The music was really good and I heard music that i haven't heard in a while. I can't wait to come back again ! read more

We went here when they were charging a $10 cover last Friday. We asked the dude at the door if it was lit inside, he promised it was hype up in there. The lies!!! It was beyond trash. We weren't pressed for $10, but it was not even worth $free.99. It looked like no one was in there except regulars who were vibing to the music by their damn selves. We went to 4 other spots in the same area, and all of those were at least 80x better than this place and free to get in. Hard pass. read more

I had fun here. It's always refreshing to find my West Indian people in the DMV. The music was good, between the soca and reggae. Vibes. It was crowded on a Saturday night and I unfortunately had on heels (we came here randomly after having dinner at a nearby spot). My feet were hurting, so I rotated between sitting on the couch by the door and getting up to dance. The seating was sparse, so wear your flats ladies. I took off the star because then charging $10 at the door is just greedy. It's a hole in the wall spot. They can make their money at the door. I also took off another star for my drink. I'm doing "wine January," and the only white wine option they had was a supposed rosé, so that's what I ordered. When I got it it tasted more like a pink Moscato. Yuck. And it wasn't even cold. I didn't feel like complaining, so I just asked for a cup of ice to water down the sweetness. I'll be back to get my Caribbean fix. read more

I was not impressed. Drinks were basic and not cheap. Men were below average....and the women weren't that far behind them. My friend spent the entire time having this old 50 yrs old guy harassing her and several others had bad breath. Not sure what that was all about. I normally find it against everything I believe in to pay a coverage charge at any Adams Morgan establishment as most aren't cover charge worthy but I have to admit Timehri did not make me regret pulling out my cash. This is a great place if you want to go out, dance to some hip hop but mainly reggae and just have a good time. The place is a small little dungeon but with enough space for you to move about a bit. Best thing about it are people are here to dance and have fun, you don't have 1000 people too cute to dance or standing against the wall holding it up, people are dancing, moving and grooving and enjoying themselves, that always adds to my fun when in any establishment. Drinks were my only concern, prices were decent, four drinks were less than 40 dollars but they give you baby cups, they could definitely be bigger with that said the bartender puts a nice amount of alcohol in that small cup, I had a vodka and cranberry that was damn near clear so I couldn't complain too much. If you're a fan of reggae and don't mind going into the dark dungeon to enjoy it, then make that move to Timehri, it will be worth the cover. read more

I went to this small Caribbean themed bar with a friend. It's one of the downstairs bars in the trendy strip in Adams Morgan. I did like their mango martini, it was delicious. The club is small and yes it does get hot - SO WHAT - just party and have fun. Only 1 table for VIP and a good number of stools at the bar. Other than that you dancing or holding up da wall lol! We had Heinekens, mango martinis, Apple martinis and amaretto sours! The cups were small, but the liquor was 90% of that cup. Just returned from holidays in T&T and was looking for an authentic soca/dancehall/reggae experience in DC. Based on Yelp reviews we picked Timehri. They were playing all those catchy reggae-influenced pop songs (by Magic!, Twenty-One pilots, Sia, etc) when we arrived. The DJ caught me off guard when he switched to Destra on the Set Good riddim. At the end of the night he brought the house down with Shabba Madda Pot. I got my authentic experience, no doubt. The DJ is very talented. Drinks here are powerful, not watered down in the least. Patrons were friendly, laidback people who love to dance. The dance floor is small, which made it intimate and unintimidating. Will be going back often. read more

No problem as that is common on a Saturday night in Adams Morgan. Walked in and realized it was worth it. The drinks were regular price. I bought a Guinness for $5 and my friends ordered the Long Island for $10. He took a sip and made the "this drink is strong" face--so it was worth it. There are two TVs near the bar playing sports and a dance floor for those who want to fully immerse themselves in what this establishment has to offer. Yes, the dance floor was packed and not with people standing around or looking on their phones. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. It was a good mixture of people ranging from young professionals to a more mature crowd. The Dj was playing hit after hit after hit--there was not a "miss" in sight. Bartenders were nice and attentive. I'd definitely come back again. Not many food options here but they do have beef patties. It always reminds me of a good Brooklyn basement party where you can be found whining with your partner on the wall sweating like crazy. It is a small club located in Adams Morgan where you have to walk down some steps to get to. They have a small bar with drinks averaging around $10, and there is no major dress code. I came out for my birthday and while I was looking for ID I did not realize my friend paid my cover. So I gave her my ID and money and my friend tells her he paid for me, but she refused to give my money back, lies and tells him he must have "paid for another girl". We were the only 2 ppl at door. Up charging upfront is one thing but flat out lying kind of dampens the experience of going out, especially since I had a pretty decent time after the fact. Im visiting VA and checked this place out on a wed. there were 10 men and 3 women the entire night.(I counted) thats including the male DJ and female waitress. DJ was on point. he even played a request of mine. there was a lesbian couple dancing so that leaves the 1 woman who was the bartender. drinks where cheap, it ended up being me and 2 other men on the dance floor. I honestly wanted my money back I was charged to get in because my friends and I couldn't enjoy ourselves last night. This place got 60 dollars of us and we were only there for 30 mins and they just kept letting people in. Some spilled her drink on us because of how packed it was. The music was everything but it's a trap for a fight, men to grope women, and I'm sure it was over compacity. I am from Brooklyn, home of The True Bashment and every time I'm in the DMV I go to Timehri to get my ENTIRE Life!!! The DJ plays Chune after Chune! I am on the dance floor from the time I arrive until closing! The Rum Punch is made to order, tastes sooo good and makes you feel Nice!!! The bartender Honeymoon makes you feel like you're a regular whether you've been there once or a thousand times! She's absolutely amazing!
