POV: You watch Blown Away ONE TIME and then end up at Decatur Glassblowing... But seriously, what a fun experience learning a new art form. I took a group class with a bunch of friends, and we all had so much fun. All of the instructors were super knowledgeable and made everything look super easy. The instructors worked with everyone one-on-one in turns to make sure we felt safe and that each finished bowl was beautiful. I can't say enough great things about Sam, the artist who helped create my bowl! He was so professional and I loved that he explained each step. They require liability waivers, masks for the duration of the class, and proof of vaccination to do the glassblowing! For about $80, we spent 2 hours learning to make handcrafted bowls which we got to take home. Everyone in my group thought it was worth every cent and would come back again!

What a fun and creative experience! Glass blowing has always been on my bucket list- I was happy to check this off with Decatur Glassblowing and their phenomenal staff! From the time we arrived until our departure everyone was so helpful and friendly. We arrived early so we could check out the store area. The pieces are stunning! We stayed to watch a few people make their pumpkins! The front desk guy even recommended a place to grab a bite to eat! Abby was the teacher in our class! She is a bright and talented soul! Very helpful no question was stupid. We bought a class special! They have lots of options on classes or packages!! If your are in the are at least go check out the boutique shop!

The pumpkins! (These are slightly more vibrant than they appear in real life) The picture was dark so I had to use a filter :p

This was a fun evening activity! each pumpkin takes about 10 mins to make and you go pick it up a few days later. They help you out with everything and go through instructions prior to starting. The whole building is cool and there is neat stuff to but ranging from $10 and up to hundred(s). All hand made and is very pretty! Parking is street or right in front of building. It's a fun family night activity OR a cute date spot! It's very creative and fun. Check it out :)

This was a bucket list item for me. I've always wanted to participate in glassblowing. I booked a private class for yesterday. The class started exactly on time and Abigail was amazing to work with! I was nervous at first because I was alone. But Abigail kept good conversation, gave good instruction, and overall made me feel very welcome! During my time I was able to make 3 pieces. The coolest process was making the bowl. Abigail walked me through making the object first and then we made one for me. It did help to see the entire process before I jumped in. It takes 48h for the glass to cool down, so I'm excited to pick up the finished pieces! When you first make them, the colors are still hot so they don't look the same as they will at pickup and I can't wait to be surprised!! I recommend this experience for everyone!!!!!

This was on my bucket list but I have to admit I was nervous and a bit intimidated. Nathan put those fears to rest immediately. He is the owner, as well as one of the guys who helps teach classes. He let us know that he was willing to help as much or as little as we needed. He began by demonstrating step by step what the procedure was. He then let us know if we wanted to skip our turn and come back that was fine as well. We skipped our turn and let two people go ahead of us so we could watch. Nathan is very patient with the class. He tells you what to do next after each step, instead of assuming you would remember. He explains that the color you chose won't be vibrant until it cools completely. All colors appear orange at first. I'm posting the before and after pictures so you get an idea of what they looks like in both stages. I chose the blue and my girlfriend chose the multi color. They have to cool overnight and get the base sanded so they are not available to be picked up immediately. If you live close by that's not an issue but if you don't, they do offer shipping options. We just ran back up the following weekend and picked ours up. The experience was hands on and a lot of fun. They offer different classes for each holiday or you can book a private class to try making more difficult things. I would recommend that everyone try this at least once. We will definitely be back.

The person working the register said hello when I came in and went back to looking at their computer screen. But once I was no longer in view, the person came to do a circle around the area where I was standing and said, "I'm doing inventory." GIRL, BYE. I'm an auditor by profession and I know what conducting an inventory looks like. Also, people just doing their job do their jobs without explanation required. There were some other things this person did and overall, it was an ugly experience. I haven't been profiled in a long time and it still feels gross and reminds me how awful people can be. I found something special for my friend, and I bought it. I also bought it for myself because after this experience I needed something soothing too. I won't let one person change my mind about a place I shopped at for years but if I see this person when I walk in, I'm turning around and leaving. HomeGrown has great gifts if you want something locally-made that feels special. And in all these years, this is the only time I've experienced anything like this so I'll likely be back. Just some of the shine is gone.

The only thing that threw me off was it was described, or at least I thought it was (there may have been a drink or two before this) as a cat bar so I thought cats would be roaming around. Honestly, I wondered how safe that was and what if people don't want cats crawling around them. It made a lot more sense when I got there and realized you had to pay to visit the cat den. It was just a back room with a bunch of cats, but the nice thing is that they donate those funds towards animal charities. Personally, I don't care enough about hanging out with the cats so I skipped that part, but otherwise they played great music on a Tuesday. The bartender was awesome too that night. Very friendly. We had a great little chat and then I promptly noticed a high heel shoe chair and made my coworker shoot a pic of me sitting on it. Big fan of the kitch!
