No doubt I love their food but their customer service is Horrible. My husband called 1 day ahead to book a booth and the person he spoke to said no problem we will give you something special. Next day we went and they refused to give us the booth or sofa stating that it's for bigger parties so that means couples can't sit on those sofa. Go there at your own risk - not worth the $$$$ The good: -Food is okay at best -Ambiance is good -Bar Tender was nice and cared about peoples' preferences and made good mix drinks. The Bad: -Their attitude sucks, when I called to make a reservation - was rudely told to do it online -When I called to increase the # of people in my party, was rudely told to 'make reservations online' and I had to repeat myself 3 times that instead of 14 we were going to be 15 people and that I wasn't calling to make a reservation -They don't want to serve you tap water - Seriously. They sell you $8 (+tax +gratuities) bottles of water. I always drink tap water and I haven't ever been told that tap isn't an option (prior to yesterday, well there is always a first). We aren't in Hyderabad or Chennai where tap water isn't safe to consume. -Service is mediocre (what I expect at a $$ restaurant, when I am at a $$$$ restaurant - I expect a lot better) -I get that restaurant have to charge a cakeage fee, but that has to be reasonable. In this case it was $5 per slice. But they insisted on and charged for the entire table although only 5-6 slices were cut and served by them. -You won't believe how they brought in the cake and didn't let my wife even touch the cake. Or for family members to feed her a bite. As soon as she blew it, they almost forcefully took it away. We had be to this awful place for the first time and the greeter was arrogant at the first place, service and food was awful. The server offered us to do the review and once did the review we we're being forced to change it to 10/10 and upon denying they charged us for the things we didn't order. My hopes were really high for this place. I would not suggest this restaurant to any of my friends or family. Inside the restaurant it is really nice but everything else is garbage. It took the waiter 10 mins to come to our table. When they did come they took our drink orders. One of the guys ordered a Heineken beer it took them about 15 mins to bring it out. Instead of bringing a beer they gave a smoothie. We explained to the waiter that we ordered a beer. She apologized and said she will go get it right away. It was not the only drink they messed up. We also ordered a Hennessy and ginger. They bought out Hennessy and coke. We didn't say anything we just accepted it because they took forever to bring it out. Half the ice was melted. It was already a bad experience and we haven't even order appetizers yet. We ordered paneer tikka chicken tikka and chicken 65. This also took a while to come out. Chicken 65 was not good at all. You could tell the chicken was old and chewy. Chicken tikka and paneer tikka a robot bought them to us and one of the staff members lit it on fire. The concept of this is pretty cool if it tasted good. We didn't like it the chicken tikka or paneer tikka. Basically it's just food coloring put on the items to make it look presentable. After all this I was fed up with the service and lack of communication from our waiter. The owner came over to our table mid way through the appetizers and asked us if we liked our experience so far. Explained to the owner that the service is terrible and before he could let me elaborate on how the food was he cut me off saying they are short staff due to covid. Thats not an excuse the restaurant first off isn't that big they had more then enough staff. They should really think about closing down for a day and training there employees because it seems like they do not know what they are doing at all. From the waiter all the way to the bartender. So now let's talk about how ridiculously over priced this place is. They consider them selves as a high end 5 star restaurant. They charge for water which is really wrong. This is Edison!! I would understand if this was New York but it's not. Whoever is considering going here and thinks this place is legit it's not. It's basically trying to lure customers by looks. Honestly, we won't go back to Deccan Spice. There are just 4-5 servers and the place is chaotic and packed. The pricing is high and the gravy in all dishes seemed the same. I don't know what went wrong but their food was extra salty yesterday and when I complained to the owner - he casually told me that no one has complained about their food before. Sure, please take note and criticism well for your restaurants own good. Everyone may not find it palatable - especially when you are paying so much. Also, they don't have tap water so you have to buy VOSS water and it's $8 a bottle - steep right ? The poor servers were scrambling to help. The food comes in after a long wait, the breads come in after another 10 minutes. I guess they were not prepared for the Father's Day rush but then don't take so many reservations !! Worst customer experience ever after spending close to 300 dollars on lunch for a birthday celebration for my son. The owner/manager became belligerent after I questioned some up charges on the bill that was not mentioned on the menu or to us before ordering. The owner said he had received similar complaints about charging for luxury still water (no price on menu or any other options given for soft drinks, etc.) and that they can do what they want as it is not illegal to refuse to provide plain tap water. Then proceeded to tell me I was free to file a complaint with the ABC but refused to give me his name. Then he began to badger the poor waitress with questions in front of the whole restaurant. At that point we just wanted to leave as quickly as possible so we paid the $32.00 for water and left. This completely ruined what was an otherwise excellent meal with exceptional service by the staff. I've never walked out of a restaurant so insulted before. Stay away from this place. One of the priciest places in the area with the most mediocre food. The dishes were all made by a seemingly novice chef who has no idea that Indian dishes need time to cook the masala, onions, tomatoes etc. They force you to buy water bottles for 8 dollars. My parents came here on Valentine's Day and it was the worst experience of their life. The restaurant had a pre fixed meal which was $75 a person. The meal was supposed to be a four course meal and the second course didn't even come. After complaining, the manager, anjali, didn't do anything to help us and was not polite. I've been there twice with my husband. I really want to keep going as fine dining Indian restaurants with a clean and spacious layout are not all that many. Also the full bar is a big attraction! They have a delicious lychee cocktail. The food is very good but not excellent. Which is fine...because so much depends on individual taste...literally. My main concern is the service. Really slow. Our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive. The first time the barman was scooping huge quantities of ice from one container to the other for almost ten minutes. Something that should have been done before the restaurant opened. The noise itself was jarring. The second time the bar was not even manned and later we found out that the chef was doubling up as barman. The manager came over and apologized and of course used covid as as a reason. However I have been to at least one other similar restaurant which does not seem to be affected by the pandemic. Our server Chris was excellent though. It was a pleasure to interact with this pleasant young man. I will be going there again and hope that these minor irritations will be smoothed out soon. read more

The restaurant is just there. The flavors of Deccan is missing totally. We ordered vegetable chettinad, my 11 year took a bite and said I can't stand the taste as it was only salt in vegetable. While the gravy had the color, I unfortunately could not get a bit of flavor. Sorry to say, not worth the money. I recently moved to Jersey and I was looking for a lovely place to have dinner. I came across this resto during my search for Indian food, and although the reviews were mixed I decided to drive 30mins anyways because of the decor. I have to say I was NOT disappointed, the staff was very attentive, they were very careful on seating us 6ft apart from others and the food.... delicious! Some people wrote reviews about the price but I have to say if you are looking for a bargain during these hard times buy groceries and cook or go to a fast food restaurant.
