started out with some drinks- I got the Mango Margarita mocktail. Was tasty but there was no Mango flavor in the drink. We ordered the mango habenaro guacamole. It was good but not spicy at all. I'm not a big fan of when restaurants put huge amounts of onion in their guacamole and this was done just right. I also got the golden cauliflower tacos. They were delicious. My friend got the hanger steak and my other friend got the enchiladas. Everyone was really happy with their meal. The interior is really cool and it was pretty crowded so had to talk loudly to be heard. At 9pm the music got loud and we joked that it was turning into a club so we left. read more

Hip date night spot! I've tried to visit this establishment in the past (about six months ago) and there was a very long wait, even with a reservation. Due to the long wait (1 hr+) in the fall, we ended up leaving and not trying out this restaurant. This time, I was pleasantly surprised that we were seated within a few minutes in the outside dining area, even without a reservation this go around. The drinks are the focal point! There are so many options, all of which are unique and delicious, and they come out looking so fun. I had the Tamarindo and my husband opted for El Jefe. The Tamarindo had a delicious, sour tajin rim. I was sold from that point on! Before any food came out, we were provided with complementary chips, pico de gallo, and hot sauce. A nice way to ease into the food. Our appetizer was a citrusy shrimp dish, with the seafood plated on avocado mouse. I've never tried avocado in this format and it was so delightful- soft and creamy! The sauce was perfectly citrusy and the presentation made it look like art. My main dish was the spicy shrimp tacos. They were sufficiently packed, not overfilled, which I appreciated. I was full after one taco and had two more to take home. Overall, this is a good energy, lively spot with loud Latin music and good eats. For food we had Truffle Street Corn, Salsa Flight, & Chef Taco Board. The Chef Taco Board feeds 3 people, we used it for 4. It comes with 9 Tacos & 1 side. You can choose from the list of Tacos that they have, so you get 3 of each taco you choose. Meximoto was a pretty average experience overall. The ambiance was actually one of the best parts -- the decor was beautiful, and the wall and bar area were especially impressive. It created a really nice atmosphere and gave the restaurant a lot of character. The sangria was good, and the street corn was one of the highlights -- it had a nice kick and great flavor. The guacamole was okay, but nothing that really stood out. The biggest issue was the service. Our server barely checked on us, and we never even caught her name. The food took a very long time to come out, and we kept noticing other tables looking around and waiting too, so it didn't seem like it was just our table. What was frustrating was that our server never stopped by to give us an update, acknowledge the delay, or apologize. When the food finally arrived, the tacos were presented nicely, and my boyfriend enjoyed them. However, after such a long wait and lack of communication, I'm not sure the food was worth the experience. I had a great experience at Meximodo. The atmosphere is beautiful, modern, vibrant, and perfect for a night out.The food was excellent. The chips came with several different salsas, each with its own flavor and spice level, which was a really nice touch. Everything we ordered was fresh and well seasoned. The tacos were delicious, and the elote style dish was rich and flavorful. The drinks were also impressive. The cocktail presentation was beautiful and tasted just as good as it looked. I am a frequent visitor to Meximodo Metuchen because 1) I'm always in Metuchen, 2) They have excellent drinks, 3) they have food my kids will eat, and 4) the ambience is great! With that being said, the food can be just OK sometimes, depending what you get. I do LOVE the chorizo queso fundido and pumpkin queso, yuca fries, and some other random apps and dishes. Shrimp tacos aren't bad too. However, we've gotten the fish tacos and other meat tacos like barbacoa which can be underwhelming or dry (meat). Fish tacos had too much batter and I could barely taste the fish. Was also not impressed by the mole, although the mole sauce itself wasn't bad. The shrimp & watermelon aquachile was plated and presented excellently with smoke and everything, but I'm not sure I would pay $22 for some watermelon again. Would love it if you brought maybe an oxtail or bone marrow taco or surtida tacos, or maybe even some good brisket tacos. Am I also asking for too much to see if you can house make your own tortillas? LOL My fave drink is the cocolada, but they are ALL amazing cocktails. Oh, and they have the largest tequila selection at a bar in the US. My husband is into that though, I'm more of a cocktail person. Service is usually good too and some of them really know their tequilas! I hope they bring back the happy hour specials though, because we always end up spending quite a bit! We've been trying to get in this place for a couple of months and something always tends to happen. Well we got the chance to get in and I see why it's so hard to get in here. The food, drinks, and ambience is out of this world! Great food- get the ribeye tacos its new new on menu. The steak was tender and extremely delicious. We also decided to try the margaritas and those were the best margaritas I've had in a while. The service was quick and the bartender was not only friendly but she made us feel like we were regulars. Came here for Cinco de mayo. Had a great time it was packed 25 min wait but we were able to get bar seat and order delicious food. I shared wagyu burger and steak tacos everything was great. I did order guacamole and chips and got 3 large chips I think that is not brightest option with all guac they serve much rather smaller chips but they did fix that. The service was great they even gave us free patron shots. The restaurant decorated great and the servers dressed on theme loved the music that was playing will definitely come back. We loved all the appetizers we ordered - queso, guacamole, plantain, and street corn. Most my friends had some tacos. One order ribs, one had salad and I had chicken mole. Beautiful place located in the heart of a quaint town. Decor: when you walk in there is a large wall of Tequila bottles. Very open and dark. We made reservations but waited 10 minutes to be seated. It was very crowded. Prices are reasonable. Now some negatives: I didn't care for where we were seated. We were 3 people and they made a table for us upstairs in what looked like their party room. There was a table of teenage girls there for their birthday. I wanted to be in the main dining room. Also there was a DOG at the table next to us and it was not a service dog!!! If I come back I will suggest downstairs.. also to smuggle a dog into a restaurant is completely unacceptable. She whipped the dog out of her pocketbook as though she had been hiding it all night. I am HIGHLY ALLERGIC. (sidenote the dog was adorable and well behaved, but should not have been in a restaurant on a Saturday night. ) Service was very slow. It took a while for water refills and drink orders. Now onto the food: the street corn was delicious but small. Plantains were good. I also had a mango frozen margarita. (at least I think it was a frozen margarita. It came in a martini glass while everyone else had a margarita glass so I have a problem with that as well. Margaritas belong in a margarita glass ). Meximodo is a nice restaurant to dine in aesthetically. My sister, cousin and I decided to dine in at the bar. This restaurant gets pretty busy during a Saturday night. I definitely recommend reservations if you wanna eat at a table but if you don't mind eating at the bar, you will probably get seated a little faster. At the bar I ordered the cocolada for my cocktail. We decided to order the truffle street corn for our appetizer. The appetizer was okay I think I definitely prefer my street corn on a cob but this was a roasted corn puree. Then for our meal we got the chef's taco board and it came with a side so we got the yuca fries because it was perfect for 2-3 people so the 3 of us each got 3 tacos. We decided to get the birria melt tacos, the cauliflower tacos, and the fish tacos. Out of the three I enjoyed the fish taco, the best, but the cauliflower taco was also pretty good. The birria taco was just OK. As for the yuca fries, I did enjoy those, but wish they were a little bit more crispy. Overall, we all agreed that our food was on the colder side so it wasn't as enjoyable. But we also all agree that the fish taco as well as the cauliflower taco had a nice flavor. read more

Went to Meximodo for a birthday dinner and had mixed feelings about the experience. The vibe was really nice, and the service was great....our servers were attentive and made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. I ordered the steak tacos, and the steak honestly tasted like frozen Steak-umm meat. A few others at the table ordered the same and agreed. The only people who seemed to really enjoy their food were the ones who got the shrimp tacos. As for the margaritas, they were just okay...not very strong and not really worth the price. Overall, while the atmosphere and service were good, the food was disappointing. I don't think I'd return, especially when there are so many authentic Mexican spots that offer better quality. read more

My first visit was about 1 year ago for appetizers, and I returned last Thursday for an evening with friends ready to explore whatever else is on the menu. It was packed for a weeknight; however, we were seated pretty quickly even though we missed our reservation time. Everything tasted great, but unfortunately I will not be returning. Even their minimally spiced foods were apparently too much for me! The complementary tortillas were served with various dipping sauces, and our server made sure to describe each one including where they fall on the spicy meter. I stayed far away from the hotter sauces, but my friend stated even the mild sauce was still spicy. I added the diced tomatoes to the same sauce and found it quite palatable. Most of the food items on the menu have a chili pepper listed next to it so my options were limited if I wanted to spare myself completely from the heat. I originally ordered the red snapper but switched it to the ribs after seeing them placed at a neighboring table (also the snapper was spicy). The ribs looked meaty and delicious, so I had to try them out ..and did. They were served as a large portion, meaty and tender -very good although different from any rib sauce I've had in the past, had a hint of vinegar. As I began making my way through a quarter of my plate, I asked for more sauce to add to the ribs. When the check arrived, I noticed I was charged $5 for that request. Now I don't mind spending a good chunk of change for a quality meal, but that charge was unexpected and felt unnecessary. For drinks, I ordered the Sam Adam's draft and later the Mi Amor which is Cazadores Blanco tequila mixed with bitter Aperol, sweet mango purée & a splash of fresh lime. The cocktail was very refreshing and mildly sweet. For dessert, I ordered the churros to go. They were shaped as hearts and served with dulce de leche sauce. I am certain I would've enjoyed it more if I ate it at the table. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and looks especially nice in the evening. read more

Add it to take it right over the edge. This was all of our first times here. We came at 4:30 on a Sunday. They were busy. I don't know if they were shortstaffed or what the issue was but our waitress took our drink order before we even got water for the table. We got chips and salsa before we even got water. It took a good 15 minutes to get water and we had asked for it and it just never came until a bit later. I have a sensitivity to spice and onions and I had a very difficult time ordering. Several items on the menu were spicy, and I was not able to customize. I either had to take it with the spice or without customizing or have something completely plain. I ended up getting chicken fajitas which I did like, but I did not get onions and peppers because they couldn't just give me peppers without the onion. I honestly thought it was extremely frustrating trying to figure out something that I could eat. It's 2026 and people have a lot of dietary restrictions and limitations and I really felt like I was kind of stuck. The drink menu had a nice variety. I got a classic margarita which I liked. We got an order of the street corn which was just ok. We also ordered another app that never came back and our server admitted she never put it in. We got churros for a dessert but they took extremely long and the waitress apologized for the wait. The caramel sauce was better than the chocolate. The ambiance of the place was really cool. Definitely an intriguing and different vibe. The service was what kinda dimmed down the experience for me. I drove an hour to get here so if I was in the area, I'd come maybe try it again, but I would not go out of my way. read more

Our order was taken correctly but was not severed correctly and was mostly not inline with how we ordered, we ended up not getting two items. Even though we picked spicy, all food was sweet. Street corn, chicken taco, shrimp taco all were sweet and lacked flavor. Even if I ignore high price, right flavors were not there. Unfortunately I won't recommend this place for food. read more

My friend and I sat at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Great ambiance and decor - that part is a 10/10! The presentation of the food and drinks was also quite nice (especially the drinks). All of the taco options come in orders of 3 and cost $19-21. Between the somewhat chewy texture of all of the meat, and the overall lack-luster flavor of both of our taco orders (one with chicken, one with steak) - we were disappointed in the quality of the food, especially at their price point. An average price of $16 for most of their cocktails felt a little bit steep, but I suppose that's expected at most contemporary restaurants that have nice ambiance. This is one of those situations where the drink price wouldn't even have been a topic of contention at all, if the food wasn't so disappointing. Meximodo is a great place to go strictly for drinks with friends or a date night, or for a corporate event where the company is footing the bill. read more

Came here on a Friday evening to celebrate a friend's birthday. We made a reservation for a party of 6 and we were seated shortly after we arrived. The decor was chic with a lively ambiance. However, we were seated upstairs which lacks character and vibe but we didn't mind it because it was a lot quieter upstairs so we were able to have a comfortable conversation without needing to yell over each other. My party ordered a couple of appetizers to share and we ordered the meximodo salad, street style corn, and Acapulco-Style Cevichex the Meximodo salad was my favorite. The vegetables were fresh and crisp, the vinaigrette was refreshing and I loved the added textures from the tortilla strips. However, the street styled corn I feel lacked flavor and very mushy. The cevichex was alright but nothing memorable. I also ordered the chicken taco for myself. For $16, it included 2 small tacos. Although the tortilla was soft, it was cold and I wish it was warm. The chicken was extremely salty and dry. I was so thirsty and could not stop drinking water afterwards. Even though the food was below average, the service was great as our server was very attentive and was patient with us. We also brought our own cake and was thrilled to find out they don't charge a cake cutting fee. But they didn't do the best job at cutting the cake and I wished we request to just cut it ourselves. Another thing to note is they offer 3hrs of free parking at the parking structure next to the restaurant. You don't even need to give your license plate to the restaurant as long as you're not staying over 3 hours. Overall, the food is subpar and underwhelming. Menu offers limited options and I found it quite expensive for their portion size. This is more of a 2.5 star review. One star for the meximodo salad, one star for their service and half stay for the free parking next door. I most likely won't be returning. read more

I visited Meximodo today and it did NOT disappoint! I ordered the mint mojito, street-style corn, and guac and omg the appetizers were sooo good. The street corn was insanely tasty and mixing it with the guac made it even better. I was already so full from the apps, but I still had to try the shrimp tacos for my entree. The shrimp were big and juicy, and the aioli was sooo good. It was labeled spicy on the menu, but it wasn't very spicy at all so I added extra hot sauce. The place got busy really fast for a Monday night, so I definitely recommend making a reservation to secure a table. Can't wait to come back! read more

Parking is available in the garage behind the restaurant and it's free with validation from the restaurant host desk. Immediately from the front entrance it's a great vibe. They also have outdoor seating with overhead covering. Step inside and the vibrant colors and decor grab your attention as well as the world record breaking wall of tequila. For this particular Sunday there was a DJ spinning a great mix of all types of music. The menu was very creative and enticing. Even as plates were passing you were curious as to know what items were. I chose the Tres Leches French Toast. Very different take on French toast as it looks like a small block of bread. But it was surprisingly very filling and so savory that you didn't even need syrup. It was moist and delicious. Some other notables are the burritos, the margarita flights and the margaritas (huge). Finished it all off with the margarita sundae. Service was excellent. They were constantly clearing empty plates and glasses. My group was there for just under 3 hours and we never felt rushed for a moment. Great vibe. Great food. I was able to easily find a reservation for 7 people and when we got there it was mostly empty, so our server was pretty attentive. By the time we left it was much busier. The ambience is really nice, the place is colorful with beautiful decor. I love the bar area. For food, I got the tamarindo drink which was not great. Was hoping for more tamarind flavor. The street corn and enchiladas were delicious. I give it three stars because the food is quite overpriced and we spent $20 on a small kids chicken quesadillas and $16 for 2 small tacos. The chicken tacos were not great, either. Chicken didn't taste like it was good quality meat. Would I go here again? Not sure as the menu is pretty small and I don't think some of the dishes are worth the price. read more
