I love DeCola! The first time I ever went there, I had Emma for my stylist. She is super friendly and did an awesome job on my balayage! I was so happy with it that I kept seeing Emma for everything! I've seen numerous reviews on here talking about poor service and ironically it seems they are all by people that do not identify as Caucasian. I had the most terrible service here as a person of color a mediocre hair cut and was left feeling absolutely terrible having the most uncomfortable conversations or feeling ignored. Its absolutely disguisting the type of treatment I faced here and I strongly encourage this business to do an internal review as I will be filing an official complaint for racism and mistreatment of customers. read more

After getting a very average balayage and haircut at this salon the first time, I decided to give them a second try, which turned out even worse. At least the first time the stylist listened to what I wanted and tried to make an effort to achieve that. The second time the stylist I came to for consultation was extremely rude and literally talked over me when I was trying to explain what I wanted. She didn't even bother to learn my name and kept going on about what she was going to do instead of pausing and listening to me. The speed at which she was talking seemed she just wanted to get rid of me. And I don't think she was in a rush to get to another client because the waiting room was empty. And in the end she quoted a really high price (for a tier 1 stylist) listing things that I did not need done. I'm glad this was just a consultation and I won't be returning. There are plenty of awesome salons in Chester County with better service and reasonable prices. read more

Made an appointment for partial highlight, cut and blow dry. Only received maybe a quarter of any of those services. I take credit for running 10 minutes behind, but you would've thought I came 5 minutes before the appointment ended with the way they treated me. Walking into the appointment my stylist told me she could really only do limited things before "passing me off to an assistant." She was not willing to do my hair the way I actually wanted and just kept saying she didn't have time. My appointment was for 2:15, I arrived at 2:25 and she said she needed to be done for her appointment at 4. Clearly she did not schedule out enough time for my appointment which was really disappointing. She made it seem like she listened to my requests, but just simply gave me a few blonde highlights which was not at all what I even wanted. She kept telling me she was going to ask someone else to cut my hair and said "if that doesn't work.. well I don't know what we'll do." Well she did nothing and didn't say I was not getting a cut, she just sent me off to get a blow dry. She handed me off to a young girl in training for my "blow dry." This girl was actually nice to me and we spoke while she did her service but I could tell she was new. I made sure I didn't pay for the cut, but was clearly disappointed. I left the salon with damp hair and only a few highlights and not the trim, which was the sole reason for the appointment. There was not much difference in my hair and I paid $155 and then some for tip. I cannot describe my disappointment and embarrassment of how I let these workers treat me. I may be young, but I am a paying customer and scheduled my appointment to receive my full service. I would've respected her more if she just would've said she was too busy and didn't have time that day. I would've appreciated the honesty and respect of my time as well. I had to wait 30 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time (happens), and despite knowing how long I had waited, my stylist Kelly Boyle grabbed a smoke anyway. She even made eye contact with me on her way out to smoke. I had to smell her cigarettes the entire haircut which totally ruined the experience for me. Jackie Hashem did a fabulous job highlighting my hair in December when I hadn't been to a salon since July. I had a 4 hour experience at the last salon (wearing a mask the whole time) and was not happy with color or trim job when I left. Found Jackie on Instagram and loved the photos of hair coloring she had done. She did a full foil and haircut (not trim) in 2 hours!! I was beyond thrilled with her efficiency, skill, friendliness and talent. I was amazed that my hair was so blonde when I was there only 2 hours--it was perfect. No stress. Super clean and beautiful salon. Covid precautions followed and sinks/stations have "Sanitized" signs on them before you sit down. I saw cleaning going on. Checkout was super fast. My credit card was wiped down with antiseptic wipe before being handed back to me. I highly recommend this salon, especially Jackie Hashem. Decola salon is doing a great job with covid-19 precautions. I went in for the first time today and saw Nikki. She did such a good job on my hair. I have a lot of thick hair so it takes time, however I'm used to sylists rushing and not really taking the full time on my hair until it's my second visit (if ever) and they realize it takes longer. Nikki did exactly what I asked and she really took her time on my hair. In fact, I had to leave before she was done with the blowout(I didn't schedule enough time)! It's nice to not feel rushed out. This was my first time at DeCola Salon. I had gone to get my hair colored and I wasn't quite sure what would work. Alysa was super helpful and gave me all the options that would work for my hair. She was very helpful and I loved the color that I ended up getting. In addition, she also suggested a good shampoo to help the hair color stay for longer. Charged me a bomb for a terrible haircut (rookie technician for the price) and their color didn't even cover my grey. It was Ridiculously expensive, did nickel and dime for every damn thing. Sold deep conditioning treatment for $25. Basically all they did was put a regular conditioner for 2 minutes and washed it off. So so happy with this place and Stephanie specifically! I chose this salon initially because it's close to work and easy to book online. From the minute I stepped in Stephanie was complimenting my hair, and when I admitted I had toned it myself (I usually don't because salons in the past have gotten judgemental or upset about losing that business) she was super sweet and said I was knowledgeable about the toning process! She was very honest and in the future I would consider going back to her for lightening or toning because based on our conversation I could tell she honestly gives a client what they're looking for. The owner Lou took care of me today. I got my hair done at a different salon about a month ago & I absolutely hated it. It wasn't what I wanted AT ALL. She bleached my hair and my hair was left an ugly brassy color. Fast forward to today, I told Lou exactly what I wanted and he did it. I love my new color and happy to be back brunette. They did a very nice job on the cut, however, my hair looks exactly the same after the coloring. Meaning it looks like I need to get to the salon and do something with my hair! I feel like I spent a lot of money on a color only to have my hair look exactly the same. The staff was extremely nice and the place was very clean. The only thing I'm very disappointed with the coloring. I'm going to have to make an appointment to see my regular colorist to get my hair colored. Let me just state in all fairness, I do have difficult hair to color. I'm a natural redhead. Red hair is hard to get and hard to get rid of. I'm bumping the rating up since the salon owner contacted. I tried this place for the first time and It was very disappointing. I went for Haircut, blow dry and Partial Highlights. I wanted a caramel highlights and Darlene was taking care of me. she did apply some color to my hair which made no difference at all. They scheduled an other appointment free of cost to re-apply hair color. I have to go again and this time they colored my hair red. when asked, they told that it's a close match to the color I've asked (which is "Caramel"). never ever go here! i came in with some problematic hair which i specified in the notes on their website when i booked. yet when i come in and re explain what i wanted done i was given a rude "i don't have time for this". they gave me options on what i could do. i chose the bleach wash to even my hair. never did they specify it could possibly destroy my hair. i was in cosmetology school for a year and was shocked to see her mix the lightener with 30 volume developer as i was taught how damaging that is to pre-colored or damaged hair. i've always been told to use 10 in that situation. they didn't have seats to accommodate the people there so i awkwardly stood in the corner with the product in my head. my stylist left me there for 20 min....do not leave clients alone for that long with bleach on their hair. it itched and burned but i couldn't tell her because she was not present. she the told me she had no more time and had me pay 65$ then leave. i knew something was wrong so i had another hair stylist look at it and she was SHOCKED they left me leave in that condition. she was lightly touching or combing my hair and it was falling out in CHUNKS. she said the damage was up 6 inches on my hair. she said the damage would not be this bad if they used a 10 volume developer. she also said my scalp looked pink from the bleach touching it. i call back and tell them the condition of my hair and they said they didn't do refunds. so i paid 65$ for the bleach was to do almost nothing and my hair to be destroyed. they gave me a free trim that when i got home i realized was UNEVEN. they did not apologize once and instead made excuses that shifted the blame on me for what happened. the manager claimed my stylist said she warned me which never happened or i wouldn't be here. i felt the whole time as if i was being talked down to and it taken seriously, most likely due to my age. i'm 18 and look even younger than that but i still deserve respect. then they had the audacity to try to get me to BUY products before i left while i was in hysterics because they hair is horrendous. a girl sweeping came up to me while i was clearly having some sort of breakdown (i am on the spectrum so i do tend to have panic attacks over small things) and proceeded to tell me "it happens". some staff was very friendly but the first stylist i had i believe her name is lina was not friendly and seemed bothered by my presence. i am now on my way to urgent care because my scalp is now bright red and in pain from the bleach on it. read more

Do not go to this hair salon! Ridiculously expensive and completely destroyed my hair. I am a former hairstylist and master colorist whom needed her hair done. I had called to schedule an appointment for a foiling, asking for a stylist with a good amount of experience. When I arrived they did not even have me in their system and no appointment scheduled. Another hairstylist was available so I nervously went with her. My hair was a chin length layered bob which I had been growing out. I asked for some highlights and lowlights and a trim since I was fairly happy with the length of my hair. After all of the foils were put into my hair, I started to worry since the stylist put me under heat to process for quite a while. I was shocked to see my hair after she shampooed, toned and "conditioned" it (for an up charge). I started with blonde hair but after the foiling it was super ashy like dark gray with a white band around my hairline. My hair is so over-processed that it looks and feels like cotton candy. She also cut at least 2 or 3 inches off giving me short interior layers and over texturized it so I can't do anything with it. It looks awful! I didn't quite know what to say at the end and didn't know how bad it actually was until the next day. It is continuing to break off so now I have one section of my front that is about an inch long. At the end she charged me $250 for a disgraceful service. After a few days of trying to style my hair, I decided to call the salon to speak with manager or owner. I was so upset with my hair being so DAMAGED and short that I decided to ask for a refund. I was told that the owner was busy that he would return my phone call which he never did. I posted this review in my frustration with the salon not even returning my call. My hair is ruined for as long as it takes to grow it back to what I walked in with which will for me be at least 8 months. The least the salon should have done was to reimburse me. Save your hair and do not go to this salon. read more

Booked a Sunday styling appointment with Nikki before heading to a wedding in the area. Being from out of state, I was a bit hesitant to get my hair done so far from home but 1) appreciated they were open on Sunday and 2) they did an awesome job. Nikki was friendly and did a great job on my hair. I have thin hair that rarely holds a curl for a long time.
