After water damage left part of the bedroom wall exposed to the lobby and an unhappy corporate tenant who moved out the next day, I was literally scratching my head as to how I was going to overcome this disaster. As I started looking for contractors etc., I came across the interior design firm Decor Aid on Yelp. I decided to give them a shot. The rationale was since I had to revamp the space anyway, I might as well have a design firm overlook it so I could hopefully charge higher rent and recoup some of the lost income. What happened next blew me away. Even before I purchased the design consultation, I spoke with one of the CEO's, who sent over a carpenter friend (based locally) to come by and assess the damage (at no cost). He was able to provide valuable advice and gave me some peace of mind. The experience with the designers was tremendous. They were so nice and helpful. The designers came up with a solution to fix the wall immediately and gave the apartment a cool design makeover in a very cost effective way. Additionally they helped me stage the apartment and I did manage to rent it for a premium. Sometimes things do happen for a reason. Thank you Markus, Sean and all the other guys at Decor Aid. This is an update to my previous review posted in April 2016. Marcus, my project was a nightmare, and I regret the day that I decided to use Decor Aid for my project. I hired Decor Aid to help with some design work and, more importantly, find me a contractor from their "vetted network of contractors." After selecting one of their recommended contractors, my project began in June 2016 but didn't end until November 2017--16 months after it began. While it was a sizable project, it was not a 16 month project--skyscrapers have been built in less time. The contractor referred to me couldn't manage his business to save his life. I dealt with every possible excuse for delays: workers showing up with no instructions and no supervision, workers not having supplies, no timeline or project plan from the contractor, contractor's phone lost, work being done incorrectly because detailed instructions provided by me was not read, contractor's millshop being booked for two months before my cabinetry could be produced, said cabinetry being incorrect once produced due to wrong measurements taken by contractor, the list goes on. And, at times, the contractor would have the audacity to blame me for delays. I spent hundreds of my own hours project managing him and continuously provided detailed instructions on what to do. I lived elsewhere for 5 months and then lived in my construction zone of an apartment for another 11 months while only having access to my bedroom and bathroom. Somewhere along the way this contractor became confused as to who the client was, and unfortunately I suffered for it. I contacted Sean Juneja in November 2016 and discussed my situation with him when it was apparent that this project was off track. He told me he would get back to me the next day. I never heard from him. I followed up with Sean two additional times in 2017. Again, no response. Maureen the designer on my project tried her best to help me through this; however, she needed executive support on this and it's unfortunate that it didn't materialize. So for any Yelp reviewers who are considering Decor Aid for work that will rely upon their "vetted network of contractors," please go elsewhere. She had so many unique ideas, esp. with color/pattern selection - something I've always struggled with. We were in the final phases of a renovation, which we had done without a designer, and we had to pick colors for the contractor to paint the walls. I knew I didn't want white, but colors scared me. I looked on yelp, and left messages with Decor Aid and one other firm. These guys called back first, sounded great on the phone, and I decided to go with them. We also wanted their help with decorating the apartment after the renovation was finished, but weren't ready to jump into that yet. Amanda came out and looked at our place, and encouraged me to send her photos of anything I liked, to get a sense of my style. She totally "got" what we were looking for. She sent us some color palettes (and more colors when we weren't sure of those), and the light gray she picked out is awesome, as are the accent walls in blue and red (different rooms). LOVE. She also sourced and ordered some pendant lamps that we also needed sooner than later. She worked with the contractor, and got everything done on time and on budget. I can't wait to do Phase II, which we're hoping to get to soon. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that this was really just a small part of a larger project. I was really delighted by the service at Décor Aid. I came to them with a living room in which the furniture I had just didn't work. Through pictures of my existing furniture and a sketch of the floor plan (I'm in Cambridge) they suggested alternative ways to lay things out with what I had. They recognized the need for a new sofa (mine was tiny), and the one they found was MUCH less expensive than the one I had in mind - and equally good if not better. I loved the flexibility they showed to work around my priorities, the commitment to reflect my tastes and the sensitivity to my budget. I never once felt pressure to buy new things--as I've had with other designers. Great experience! My husband and I are thinking about totally renovating our home in another year. I will definitely go back to the folks at Decor Aid when we finish for advice on how to make everything fit. read more

If you are thinking about hiring this company, BUYER BEWARE! The founder and designers are initially engaging and responsive. However, what they don't tell you is that master designers only stay @ 2 years. So if you are paired with a master designer, there is a good possibility that they will leave the company before the project is done. My decorator, who only responded after hours, had left the company and I was never informed. After 3 weeks of unreturned calls and emails, the CEO Sean Juneja finally admitted that my designer has been terminated. So after being lied to for 3 weeks and sent partial plans and incomplete details, and after being disparaged by the CEO I was forced to hire a 3rd party to finish the job. I am currently using Decor Aid to help with my living room and outdoor space and I couldn't be happier with all the help I have received from Amanda. Amanda came over to check out the space and ever since she has gone above and beyond to help me pick furniture and other decor items to complete the look. She completely 'got' what I was looking for and came up with an amazing mood board to fit my style and the era of my home, which we then used to source the right pieces well within my budget, with the help of trade discounts from almost all the stores/brands I was keen on. Sean has kept in touch throughout the process and has visited the space too given the size of the project at hand. I am pleased with Amanda's work and have now moved on to the next phase with her to finish up my outdoor space. I plan on using Decor aid for the rest of my house as well. Given that there are so many stores and styles to pick from design can get overwhelming and stressful. They do a great job in helping to narrow down items that fit your taste, home and budget. The savings from trade discounts more than pay off the design fees. I would recommend Decor aid to anyone with limited time, budget and who needs help in furnishing a space. BUYER BEWARE. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER HIRING THIS FIRM. Unfortunately I had to assign one star to write a comment otherwise I would have assigned zero. To say this experience was a nightmare is a true understatement. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with; unprofessional from the absolute beginning to what I can only hope will be the end of my project in the near future. I have 400 sq ft and we are now going on month 8 and it is still not complete. If you are contemplating hiring Decor Aid, I would highly encourage you to seek other options. I had a family heirloom broken (the glass was not even cleared away) and a pendant light that I trekked all the way from Marrakech was stolen. No one bothered to take responsibility and it was basically shrugged off as an inconvenience. In addition, my apartment looks mediocre at best, I could not be more disappointed and will probably have to hire someone else who is actually capable of decorating/styling the apartment. Absolutely do not deal with Sunil Juneja or the CEO .. 100% useless. 11/15/2017 - response to Markus' comment below. I do not need an apology, throughout this whole process all I received were apologies for unacceptable workmanship not completed within a reasonable time frame. My personal property and my apartment were not properly cared for during this project. My light from Marrakech was STOLEN and my family heirloom BROKEN and all you can manage to conjure up is yet another apology and a canned response about additional vetting procedures with respect to your vendors? You are not a CEO of action and I will be filing a police report for my light. Also, there are cracks along many of the recessed lights, my floors are damaged, outlets are loose and crooked and the trim around my bathroom is not even sanded and looks like a handyman special as opposed to one of your "vetted contractors." Not to mention the space is not in the least bit "decorated." Decor Aid is an absolute joke. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. There are so many competent and creative decorators in New York City, you should not even be in business. read more

I found decoraid through a google search. I read everything they wrote on their website and saw they offer services in Los Angeles. I filled in the questioner online and waited for a response. After a few days I got an email and than a phone call from a gentleman who asked me a few questions about the project and said that someone will contact me to set up in home consultation. Four days later I received an email saying all their designers on my area are busy and can't take new projects. I found out through someone else that they contact random designers and offer them jobs in areas where they don't have their regular designers. I have contacted other online service since (thumbtack)and they were much quicker and more reliable. They sent me numerous contacts who contacted me directly and had someone out within 24 hours. They were knowledgeable and Flexible with their price to accommodate my needs. In my opinion it's unprofessional and bad business for decoraid To not be able to provide the service they advertise. I initially heard about Decoraid from another friend who used them and strongly recommended them. When I called Sean and spoke to him for the first time, he immediately gave me a reassuring feeling that I am in good hands. We needed to decorate and design a three bedroom apartment with two kids rooms, and Decoraid provided me with two designers to decorate our space. One decorator specialized in the kids' room and one focused on the rest of the apartment. The team at Decoraid is caring, responsive to questions and concerns, and they are very good in realizing the vision you have for your space. They treat their customers views and opinions with care and also apply their professional opinion and expertise in a professional manner that they guide you to the right results. It took a few weeks to actually get and then meet our designer match (which of course could be ideally faster or with more communication with the customer as I too got worried that maybe no one wants our project), but when we finally met the designer (Maria), it's been a fantastic experience every since. What started as accessorizing our new home a bit, turned into her doing pretty much an overhaul (while incorporating the pieces we wanted to keep) because we just loved her ideas so much that we wanted to incorporate them all. She turned our new condo we couldn't fall in love with into an absolutely beautiful, cozy, bright, and functional space along the design direction we liked and within a budget and "wow" is a comment we get the most when guests walk in, having seen our place before and now. She was also super fun to work with and I wish we had more homes we could decorate with her:-) read more

Perhaps the company does have some design talent, but if you're looking for quality customer service - look elsewhere. Overall: I'm giving Decor Aid one extra star because I was decently satisfied with the furniture that was purchased, but the overall experience was really frustrating and disappointing. It's possible I didn't have the right expectations, but I thought this was going to be more of a soup-to-nuts decorating process than just someone who would help pick out furniture. It's also possible that the people I worked with are not representative of the company as a whole, but man was I disappointed. I wanted help redecorating my 1 bedroom apartment. I started off with one designer, who was clearly spread WAY too thin. She took a very long time to respond, and wouldn't stick to deadlines that she set herself for getting back to me. She ended up quitting from Decor Aid about 2/3 through my project. I was told I would be paired with a "senior designer" to finish the project. I tried to make the transition to the new designer as seamless as I could have from my perspective (offered for her to come see my apartment less than 1 mile from their office, sent pics, sent links to every item we purchased so far organized by area), but she only got on the phone with me once to hear about what had taken place so far. I felt like she was trying to hastily finish the project, but didn't really care about the final product. There was an email at the "end" of the project to see if we were all done - but that was it. I was under the assumption that someone was going to come in to make sure everything looked right and all fit together (the original designer conveyed this to me). This never happened. We also purchased shelves that were promised to be installed by a handyman - and they didn't even end up fitting where the original designer promised. I was so frustrated at this point I just basically swallowed the cost. The most disappointing part of this whole process was that I tried to communicate all of this to the CEO of the company - but he passed me off to speak with someone else at the company. I conveyed everything I wrote in this review, but I felt really ignored. This project manager did offer to come in at that point to my apartment, but she was not part of the original project at all. I really didn't feel like re-explaining everything to a third designer at this point (6+ months into the project). She came off as very insincerely wanted to "make things right." I felt like a huge burden to her on the call - not that I was speaking to someone who really cared about the integrity of the company. Again, I was so unhappy with the whole process that I didn't bother to follow up with this final visit. Would not work with them again. read more

They have refunded my deposit. However, since then, I have received more than 5 phones calls and emails asking me to remove my review, which makes me wonder why I couldn't even receive a proper update on my project when I was still a client. My advice to Decor Aid, care more for your customers and your reputation will build itself. ---- I would recommend for you to stay away from this poorly managed design firm. I agree that the services provided may vary from designer to designer, but over all they are expanding way too ambitiously and individual client needs are being overlooked. I initially contacted Decor Aid a month and a half ago for consultation and signed up for their services with master designer for 250/hr. During consultation things were great with the CEO directly communicating with you, however, everything changed after making the deposit of 50% of the total design fee. The "master designer" I was working with communicated with me with one liner emails and missed scheduled phone call appointments. Approaching to our move in date, he disappeared for over a week and a half for "an important client on the west coast" and didn't even bother to set up an out of office message. They don't even reply to calls and emails made during regular business hours promptly. When I initially voiced my concerns and my decision to leave as a client, the CEO convinced me to wait and see how the final sourcing presentation would come out the next day, which was a Friday before a long weekend. Someone who wasn't even the original designer that I was in contact with send me the deliverable that Friday at 5:30pm, and it looked like something put together with an hour of work. Of course I hope that my experience is not a typical one with Decor Aid, but if you are thinking of employing their services I would definitely look else where first. I am still in the process of getting my refund back, and yup, you guessed it, they haven't replied to that email either. read more

Total disaster. Please don't waste your time! I had a call with Jon Taylor on a Friday to explain the scope of the project. He articulated that DecorAid would be able to help us and would get a designer in touch with me early the following week. Once that time came and passed I followed up with Jon. I continued to follow up and receive either no response or false promises - at one point I asked for the name of the designer and he told me he could only share her first name. After more time passed I finally called DecorAid to complain and got Jon. He told me our designer had fallen ill and that was why he wasn't responding. I told him if he communicated something to me, that would have been the professional thing to do, but ignoring me was rude and upsetting given I have now lost several weeks. He seemed totally unphased and promised he would respond the following day with a new designer. That call was over two weeks ago. I never received any response or update and obviously I have since moved on. I contacted Homepolish and they immediately assigned me a designer and we have already met several times and made great progress. read more

I have initially contacted the team at Decor Aid to come to my apartment and suggest an efficient way to add storage space around my loft. A team of 2 people came, took measurements and several detailed pictures. After 5 days tthey came with a very high quality detailed plan with suggestions for built in closets in corners and part of the apartment which were unused. They also advised on material, finishes and overall look. I then asked for detailed construction plan to give to my own contractors. The plans were very detailed and were easy to follow in terms of implementation. After the construction was done, they followed up with me, making sure I was happy with the final outcome and taking pictures of the final setting for their portfolio. Overall I am very pleased. All the people I interacted with at the company were extremely courteous, competent and quick. I have then referred them to several friends of mine who were equally impressed with the results and the costs. read more

They provided a counter-intuitive but completely fitting and inspired design involving old barn wood becoming the mantle. Well, I really hate decorating and so finally I decided to have someone else do it. I am one of those New Yorkers who moves around a lot so my apartment looked like a collection from a bunch of different abodes all crammed together for no reason. I had been living for 6 years in a 3-bedroom condo in Flatiron and had spend literally a few years searching for someone to help me redesign my bedroom. I knew I would want specially designed furniture providing an organic solution to my need for desk space, discrete and functional housing to a printer, DVD player, router and other electronics, as well a good sized chest of drawers. I also needed some more closet space. I have modern taste and like design which is clean and minimalist but warm and rich. After flip-flopping between hiring an architect or a decorator, I stumbled upon DecorAid, which provided all the expertise I needed under one roof, captured my aesthetics perfectly, and charged me very fairly for their work. And what a wonderful job they did! It is a joy to walk into my bedroom everyday ... My bedroom now looks beautiful, spacious, and has exquisitely hand-crafted furniture which was designed by them and produced by a great mill worker, Anthony, also recomended by them. The team was wonderful to work with (special thanks to Sean and Alex!). DecorAid is clearly customer centric but also very realistic in keeping within budget which was important to me. I had an awesome experience with Decor Aid. We moved into our new home and while most of the renovation was done by my husband (who is a contractor) i needed some help with decorating the house. I found Decor Aid online and by looking at their portfolio and reading the reviews a decided to give them a try. I spoke to Sean and Marcus who were very nice and accommodating. Our designer is Janne, and she is amazing. She had so much patience with us while we were deciding on our living room ( she will know what i am taking about, thank you Janne for your patience :-) gave us great ideas, listen to what we want and hat we don't like. Janne was always available via email or phone if i had any questions or concerns. We are almost done with our project, and I am so excited to see the final touches. Everything was in our budget and even though I was a bit concerned with designer charges, on the end we evened out with discount that we got thru Decor Aid. After reading about Decor Aid, I engaged them for renovations to my apartment including installing a hardwood floor and totally renovating my bathroom. I cannot say enough positive things about this firm. The designer with whom I worked was fabulous and came up with great ideas. There were a few minor hiccups along the way as can be expected but the people at Decor Aid were wonderful with following up and ensuring that everything was done properly and to my satisfaction. And, the firm was very conscious about my budget -more so than I. I particularly liked that they did not source items at the most expensive vendors as did other designers I have worked with in the past. I was so excited to finally find someone that would help me decorate my new house that I bought in NJ (40mins from the city). I guess Décor Aid doesn't cater to NJ, but they said they would come out. It did start out fine when speaking to the owner, Markus. He seemed happy to come out and help. However, I lost contact with him and didn't hear back from anyone. After calling and emailing a few times I did get a response to try again to make an appointment, but only adding if I want my money back they're happy to send back? I really needed their assistance and only after not receiving a confirmation on any appointments to be made did I finally say ok let me just get my money back. When I sent an email to ask for my money back, I received a refund reply within 10mins!!! 10 mins!!! meanwhile I've been waiting for days/weeks for a response to help on a project that I already paid for! I'm really disappointed in the whole experience, especially since it was my first time trying to work with a decorator knowing that it's hard to find a good affordable one. Toward the end of the gut reno of our 2-bedroom UWS co-op, my husband and I hired Decor Aid after seeing some amazing before-and-after pictures of one of their projects in New York Magazine. We loved Decor Aid's modern yet approachable, livable style. And after being quoted astronomical rates by other decorators who were also going to charge a percentage of whatever we purchased on top of their hourly fee, Decor Aid's flat-fee system and unpretentious approach to our project (no noses in the air over sourcing items from budget-friendly West Elm or CB2 for instance as long as they look fabulous) was a huge, refreshing relief. We are about two-thirds of the way through our project and we are thrilled so far. Our designer, Alex, has done a fantastic job helping us pick out drawer pulls, paint colors, light fixtures, and window treatments as well as furniture -- staying within our budget, offering practical, patient advice, and being a true pleasure to work with. read more

We had a very good experience with Decor Aid (specifically Meredith) furnishing almost all of our new apartment (living room, dining area, kitchen, office, bedroom, bathrooms and a few items for our nursery). She found truly beautiful pieces for our apartment and we get compliments all the time on how amazing and put together it looks, even down to our light fixtures! She worked within our budget - knowing when to splurge (living room console and dresser) and where to save (using overstock and Wayfair for items like desk and dining chairs). And she worked well with our contractor - preparing designs for built in shelves and a desk, amazing wainscoting and moulding advice, picking floor bathroom tiles and creating a beautiful color palette and paint ideas. 4 stars because we had a few issues with the sizing of some pieces and the owner was difficult to deal with on a few occasions.
