K, I've seen all the great reviews. I look at reviews to see if I'm on point or an outlier. In…read morethis case, I'm apparently an outlier, but it's what I experienced, so whatever. This was not good. I stopped by for breakfast. The place is attached to a gas station. I've had some great food from similarly arranged restaurants, but... not this time. I had a veggie omelet with hash browns and OJ. I tried to figure out what order to talk about these in, since they were all really, really bad. The veggie omelet... it was bad. The green peppers, if I had to guess, had been prepped a few days earlier. They were greyish-green. Not close to fresh. It was just nasty. The hash browns.... they were bad. I've literally never had bad hash browns until I ate here. There was just this flavor.... it wasn't good at all. The OJ was sour. Yelp says to talk about the ambiance. There were some really offensive people playing dice at one of the tables. They were regulars. It was a pleasant distraction from the food. In short- don't eat here.

The review of the Reuben motivated me to get it and I am SO HAPPY I did. I wanted to lose myself in that sandwich. Tender meat that melts with each bite. It was well balanced with the flavors. I got the American fries as a side which were crispy they way I like them. Just as the other review stated it was a very filling meal. I took half home. The only negative is is live too far away to eat here weekly!!!

We did notice that many of the tables didn't have their food yet, which concerned us. We were seated at the counter because there were no tables available. We figured that would at least put us up front and center so that we couldn't be ignored. Apparently that wasn't the case. We did receive our hot drinks immediately and our order was taken pretty quick, so that was a good start. That's where it went downhill. It took a pretty long time for our food to come. During that time, no one asked if we needed a refill on our drinks or even made eye contact to tell us our food would be coming soon, which was a pretty good art to master considering we were right in front of them. We saw our food come up on the ready counter. We got excited. But then we watched it sit there, under no heat source, for at least 5 min while the waitress busied herself with changing out the coffee pot. I ordered French toast and sausage. My husband ordered the 4x2. My French toast wasn't anywhere near warm and needed to be cut with a knife. My husband could only eat one pancake because they were so large and asked the waitress to toss it (it was in a takeout box) and she opened the box, gave him a look, then called to another waiter, asking if he wanted to share a pancake with her, in a rather disrespectful tone. I honestly couldn't recommend this place to travelers. We eat out a lot, and this just didn't tick enough good boxes for us.

I got the country fried steak skillet with hashbrowns, two fried eggs and a pancake. The country fried steak was cooked perfectly with a salty gravy with hearty meat chunks that complimented it well. The hashbrowns were crispy and served in a massive portion. The pancake was surprisingly good. This does not taste like a frozen pancake nor even a box mix. It had flavor without syrup which was nice to notice before I drowned it in syrup. Price was fair especially for the portion size. I had leftovers. They do share a building with a gas station which is a bit interesting. I was able to seat myself where I liked. This is an old school diner still doing things the right way. I might have to go here on my way back home!

The restaurant is a decent size, and there's plenty of parking available. Overall, the food is delicious! The only issue was with the Reuben. The corned beef was cut very thick, even though we had confirmed we wanted it thin-sliced. Aside from that, everything was wonderful, and we had a very enjoyable experience.

Then the portion sizes were fantastic everything always taste good. If you wanted value this was a place for you and your family....Now portion sizes much smaller and the prices have gone up past what it is worth. Tonight when we ordered...our salads came out first as always, we had just dressed our salads and the main entree was already at the table. When My family goes out to eat we would like to eat our salads then have the main come not at the same time. My husband had Beef and Gravy one of his favorites and the beef looked to uniform close to what a steakum looks like. Not much gravy and if he asked for some extra he would have been charged. I had the chicken strips and fries...the fries had a fishy taste like the oil was not changed. When we paid the bill I did complain to the owner/manager about what was wrong. I was told with all the people here you are the only one to complain. This restaurant in the the beginning there was always a waiting list, on a Friday and Saturday night. They do have a ATM inside for a 2$ fee which was a tad annoying but it is what it is. After coming in I was quickly sat by a very friendly waitress and she quickly took my order. Their homemade/sliced potatoes were yummy and crispy. Overall I'd give this place a 5/5 with the only gripe being the cash / atm. I'll be back for sure if I'm in the area!

It's the kind of place that doesn't just serve food, it serves belonging. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm "Good morning, hon!" and my friend had a coffee that could wake the dead (or at least a sleep-deprived newcomer). The décor is charmingly vintage, like your grandma's kitchen met a roadside diner and they decided to raise pancakes together. I ordered the chicken sandwich for breakfast! Don't judge it's a thing. because I didn't know what I was doing, and wow--turns out Rosie knows exactly what I needed. It wasn't fancy, but it was perfect. The staff made me feel like I'd been coming there for years. They joked, they chatted, they refilled my soda before I even realized I needed it. It was the kind of kindness that makes a city feel like home. Rosie's isn't just a café--it's a welcome mat with syrup on top. If you're new to La Crosse, start here. You'll leave full, caffeinated, and smiling.
